Briefing the media on the key decisions taken by the Cabinet, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said as many as 11.56 lakh non-gazetted Railways staff are expected to benefit from the move.

After being accused of committing “forgery” in the cruise rave party case by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) dismissed the allegations and said that there seems to be prejudice against the organisation because of which such baseless claims were made. “Some allegations
levelled against the organisation are baseless and seem to have been with malice & probable prejudice that may have been harboured in retaliation against earlier legal action carried out by NCB,” NCB Deputy DG Gyaneshwar Singh said in Mumbai. Singh added, “NCB reiterates that our procedure has been and will continue to be professionally and legally transparent and unbiased.” While the agency did not mention the case against Nawab Malik’s sonin-law, it is likely that’s what it meant by “probable prejudice”. Congress Leadership Is Gasping, Only Common Party Members Can Save It
Years ago, a visionary Congress leader predicted that the ordinary party worker would save the party for their survival when they find their leaders ineffective. It looks as if that moment has come now. The party is gasping for breath, and it needs oxygen from solid leadership,but that is what is lacking. So the worker has to substitute with small doses.However, the idea that a party that is barely breathing can be suddenly readied to take onthe ruling BJP at the next general election is almost short of a miracle. There are too manyifs and buts, but it is possible with strong leadership. What is important is also to saveCongress from itself. Congressmen often say that Congress can be defeated only bycongressmen.Suffering from factionalism and erosion, the Grand Old Party is now on a ventilator. It isunable to function without the Gandhi family or with them. The vacuum at the top hasencouraged the regional satraps to question the national leadership. The party has not beenable to raise its head since the 2014 defeat. The party has not only lost two Lok Sabha andmany state Assembly elections one after another since 2014 but also failed to hold on topower in the states where it formed the government. The southern states stood with her when the India Gandhi-led Congress was decisively defeated in the 1977 Lok Sabha polls. Now even the south has deserted the party now. Currently, the party is in power only in three states -- Chhattisgarh, Punjab, and Rajasthan. It is a coalition partner in the governments of Jharkhand and Maharashtra. The brutal truth is that the party is absurdly out of touch with the new political landscape. Worse, instead of looking forward, it is looking backward. It is trying to be everyone’s party while actually, it is no one’s party. Leadership crisis is also now manifest in a battle of generational change. Well, that brings us to the question of whether the Grand Old Party will survive with so much drama happening in the Congress-ruled states. In all three, the Gandhi siblings have encouraged rebels against the incumbent chief ministers with their own favourites. Punjab is a classic example. This was one state where the party could have won easily.Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh has been shown the door unceremoniously, leadingto instability in the state. The doomsayers predict that the party will disappear from the political scene sooner thanlater. However, Congress may not die so soon. If there is a congressman in every village,even the last of them, the party will live with diminished status. That does not mean that the party is not facing an implosion. Ironically the threat to theCongress party is now from the Congress rebels and not from the ruling BJP. What hasadded to the problems of the Congress is defections and desertions by some influentialleaders like Jyoraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasada, and Sushmita Dev - all of them from theTeam Rahul. Rahul’s judgment of men and matters has completely gone wrong. Hisexperiments to restructure the party also have gone awry. The Gandhi siblings bet on thewrong horses; the result is there is more confusion and chaos at the party.Given these circumstances, a revival of the Congress is not going to be smooth. But therecan still be room for Congress as a national party. This would be when it can find itsideological moorings, draw inspiration from its past, move in step with the millennials, andfind an acceptable narrative. For all these, good leadership is needed. Sonia Gandhi couldbring the party to power twice in 2004 and 2009 but she has almost retired. The Gandhisiblings have not shown their vote-catching capacity. They want to emulate theirgrandmother Indira Gandhi without her leadership qualities.The Gandhi’s know the problem but do not have a strategy to counter BJP. They have beentold they only have to sit tight, and power will automatically come to them as there is noother alternative. The change has to come from within. The family has to consult othersbefore making any decisions. After all, there are top policy-making bodies like the CongressWorking Committee which could meet more often. The Centre on Tuesday extended the ambit of the health insurance scheme for frontline Covid-19 workers to include Anganwadi workers and helpers, officials in the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare said. With the move, as many as 13,29,000 Anganwadi workers and 11,79,000 Anganwadi helpers are expected to get a health cover of Rs 50 lakh Those eligible for the health.

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday asked the state police chief why protection was provided to fake antique dealer Monson Mavunkal, who was arrested last week on charges of multiple cheating cases. This came on a day the government told the assembly that the then DGP Loknath Behera, shortly after a visit to Monson’s residence in 2019, had sought an intelligence report on him. Based on the report, he had written to Enforcement Directorate in February 2020, seeking a probe into his sources of income, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the Assembly. Hearing a petition filed by Ajith, a former driver of the accused, the bench of Justice Devan Ramachandran asked current DGP Anil Kant to furnish a report on why Monson was given police protection and why no action was taken against him for illegal possession of several articles, including elephant tusks. The judge asked, “Instead of taking action against him, police provided him protection, on what basis.’’

It’s one of the most popular and widely celebrated festivals in many parts of India, especially Gujarat. The celebrations are special in this state. Devotees worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga, who destroyed the demon, Mahishasura. They observe fast, perform puja and dress according to specific colours associated with each of the nine days. This year, Navaratri starts on October 7.The festival is dedicated to feminine divinity, referred to as Shakti. Special pujas are held for Goddess Shakti, and devotees religiously perform aarti every evening. An earthen pot, called garbi, is used for the aarti.A highlight of the festival in Gujarat is garba, a dance form with origins in the Saurashtra and Kutch regions of the state. Garba is performed around a centrally lit lamp or a picture or idol of Shakti. In modern times, the dance form has evolved and mega gatherings are organised where thousands of people participate. Gujarat Gas hikes CNG, PNG prices
Sunvilla News: Ahmedabad A week after the Centre announced a 62 per cent hike in prices of natural gas produced domestically, the state-run Gujarat Gas on Tuesday increased the retail price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by Rs 2.5 per kilogram and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) at Rs 9.5 per SCM (Standard Cubic Meter). The
spike in natural gas is expected to take a toll on ceramic and other industries in state that use gas as fuel. “Despite the 62 per cent increase in prices by the Centre, the City Gas Distribution Companies have conservatively increased the prices. Instead of a minimum of Rs 5-6 rise for CNG, we have increased it only by Rs 2.5 per kilogram,” said an official from Gujarat Gas which is a natural gas distribution company owned by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) and is one of the biggest CGD operator in the country.The CNG prices in Gujarat have been raised from Rs 54.45 per kilogram and after the new prices kick in customers .
