Russia fines Google on banned content A Moscow court on Monday fined Alphabet Inc.’s Google 2 million roubles ($28,085) for not deleting content that Russia deems illegal, part of a wider dispute between Moscow and the US tech giant. Russia has threatened to fine Google a percentage of its annual Russian turnover for repeatedly failing to delete banned content on its search engine and YouTube. Last month Google and a Russian lawmaker said the company had paid more than 32 million roubles in previous fines. Russia also fined messaging app Telegram 4 million roubles. Telegram did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Two other administrative cases against Google.

India underlining its importance in NSA meet Convening a meeting of the national security advisers (NSAs) of Russia, China, Central Asian countries, Iran and Pakistan on Afghanistan on November 10 reflects a more assured Indian diplomacy. This initiative is intended to affirm India’s legitimate stakes in Afghanistan’s future. The historical linkages between India and Afghanistan are strategically relevant. If not for Partition or Pakistan’s illegal occupation of a part of Jammu and Kashmir, India would have had this contiguity. China’s contiguity with Afghanistan involves territory far remote from its heartland (Beijing and Wakhan are 3,820 km apart). India’s heartland is, in comparison, much closer to Afghanistan (Delhi is only 990 km from Kabul).

Case against 10 Pakistani Navy personnel after Indian fisherman killed off Gujarat coast A case has been filed against 10 Pakistani security personnel after an Indian fisherman was killed near the international maritime boundary line in the Arabian Sea off the Gujarat coast on Saturday evening.

Agency News: Porbandar A case has been registered against the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) for firing at a boat of an Indian fisherman and

killing him near the international maritime boundary line in the Arabian Sea off the Gujarat coast on Saturday evening. Porbandar Navi bandar police filed a ‘case of murder’ against 10 Pakistani Navy personnel. The FIR has been

lodged on behalf of Dilip Natu Solanki, a fisherman who was injured in the incident A 32-yearold fisherman from Thane in Maharashtra, Sridhar Ramesh Chamre, who was on a fishing boat ‘Jalpari,’ was killed after the PMSA personnel opened fire on him and other crew members on the evening of November 7. One of the seven crew members aboard the boat sustained a minor injury in the incident and is being treated at a hospital in Gujarat’s Okha. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) confirmed that one person died and one person was injured in the firing that took place on Saturday. ”The case is under

investigation at present by police authorities and the crew is being interviewed jointly. Details can be shared only after completion of the investigation,” it said in an official statement. Following the incident, India had “taken serious note” of the PMSA resorting to “unprovoked firing on an Indian fishing boat” and decided to take up this issue diplomatically with the Pakistan side, official sources said. Firing on traditional fishing boats is a clear violation of the United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea. Meanwhile, Pakistan claimed that the boat had “illegally transgressed” into the country’s territorial.

SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Editorial

SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Government Responsible For India’s Worst-Ever Oil Price Shock The big surge in global oil prices, especially through the second half of the current year, has been a big cause of concern for large oil importers across the world, including India. This comes at a time when the world is preparing itself to restore economic growth after its massive decline in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Unfortunately, India, which is 85 percent import dependent on oil, has become the worst sufferer. The pandemic had badly compressed India’s economy in 2020. The country’s GDP contracted substantially. In 2020- 21, India’s GDP shrank 7.3 per cent to Rs.135.13 trillion from Rs.145.69 trillion in 2019-20. During this fiscal, economists expected the country’s GDP would improve to a level higher than 2019-20 GDP. But, it now appears that this is practically impossible to achieve. High domestic oil and petroleum products prices, compounded by hefty government levies, are impacting the country’s economic growth despite the signs of a strong demand surge across industry. The current high oil prices will also affect the global economic growth, which lost 4.5 per cent in 2020. However, the economy of the US and China will be much less affected by the current oil price surge as the world’s top two oil importing countries are also major exporters of oil. Since 2019, the US has surpassed Saudi Arabia as the world’s number one oil exporter, largely due to its big output of shale oil. China, the world’s second biggest oil importer, was the fifth largest oil exporter in 2020. China exported an average 4.93 million barrels per day, last year. The biggest benefactors of currently high oil prices are: the US, Saudi Arabia, Russia, China, Canada, Iraq, the UAE, Brazil, Iran and Kuwait. The economies of India, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Italy, Spain, France and the Netherlands are to be among the worst hit. All those eight countries import at the rate of over one million barrels per day, including crude oil and oil products, noted the CIA World Factbook as of January 1. 2020. India’s oil import, the world’s third largest after the US and China, was over four million barrels per day. Its oil import through the current year showed a steady growth till last month. How far could the global oil price go, this year? Goldman Sachs has forecast that year-end Brent oil prices will go up to $90 per barrel from $80. The FT put the 52-week price range at $35.74-$86.70 per barrel. Brent futures hit a near three-year high last month as global output disruptions forced energy companies to pull large amounts of crude oil out of inventories. The Paris-based International Energy Agency has revised up global oil demand forecasts for 2021 and 2022. According to IEA, global oil demand is set to rise by 5.5 million barrels per day (mb/d) in 2021 and 3.3 mb/d in 2022. Global oil demand is expected to reach 96.3 mb/d in 2021 and 99.6 mb/d in 2022. For the current month of November, the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries Plus (OPEC+) is said to be ready to boost output by 400,000 barrels per day. The IEA has warned that higher energy prices could lead to lower industrial activity and slowdown in economic recovery. Last month, petrol and diesel prices across India soared to all-time high levels as rates were hiked again and again ostensibly to keep pace with international oil price spurt. In October, the petrol price in Balaghat, which shares borders with Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, reached Rs. 120 per litre. In reality, these price hikes were as much linked with high domestic levies as high international prices. While consumers in India suffered, the central and state governments pocketed windfall tax gains. Nearly two-third of the price of petrol paid by Indian consumers goes to the central and state governments as levies. Incidentally, current world oil prices are still far below their alarming levels in the past. Historically, crude oil price reached an all time high of $147.27 in July 2008. At that time, the price was boosted by global supply worries, growing tensions over Iran and the weak US currency. And back then, the price of petrol in India was only Rs. 50.62 per litre and diesel Rs.34.86 per litre. Thus, the government’s routine explanation that the current high retail oil prices in India are entirely linked with the global prices is not quite acceptable. Incidentally, there have been several oil shocks in the world both for consumers and producers since 1973 when the powerful Arab members of the - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara Organisation of Petrol.

Lakhimpur Kheri: Supreme Court ‘unhappy’ with UP govt’s status report Says that the Lakhimpur Kheri probe status report has nothing except that more witnesses have been examined Agency News: New Delhi The Supreme Court on Monday once again rapped the Uttar Pradesh government on its investigation in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. It said that the probe did not inspire confidence and its pace was not up to expectation. It also mulled appointment of a retired HC judge from a different court. Expressing unhappiness over

the UP government’s status report in the matter, the Apex Court said there was nothing in it except that that more witnesses had been examined. The court also asked the UP police why they had not seized the mobile phones of accused other than Ashish Mishra. “Did the other accused not use cell phones,” the court asked. The bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana and justices Surya Kant and Hima

Kohli is hearing the case. It also rejected the request for a CBI

probe, saying that CBI was not the solution for everything. It said it was inclined to appoint a former judge of a different HC to monitor the SIT probe to prevent mix-up of evidence and suggested that Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain (retd) or Justice Ranjit singh (retd) from Punjab and Haryana HC could oversee the Lakhimpur Kheri probe. Following a petition by two lawyers, the SC took up the case related to the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3 in which eight persons, including four farmers.

soon, the best-possible situation for the BJP will be in Punjab… Since the formation of the party in 1980, we have always fought polls there as the younger brother, fighting 2023 seats and winning two to 19. For the first time, we are preparing to contest all the 117 seats. The way

the votes have been polarised in Punjab, we will create history… The way we gauge the effect of the farmers’ agitation in Punjab sitting here in Delhi is contrary to reality. Some people with vested interests are shooting from the shoulders of farmers. After talking to people in Chandigarh, BJP workers from across Punjab, media and social organisations, I can say that the common man has got nothing to do with it (the farmers’ agitation). Recently, Amarinder Singh, the former chief minister of Punjab, broke away from the Congress and announced he could have an alliance or understanding.

India reported a rise in number of new cases of Covid-19, but witnessed significantly fewer deaths. A total of 11,451 cases were reported in last 24 hours, the health ministry said on Monday morning. SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Kangana Ranaut: ‘This Padma Shri will help silence so many people’

Agency News: Mumbai Kangana Ranaut has said her Padma Shri honour is a reply to all those who’ve questioned her ideology and statements on national issues. Post receiving the fourth-highest civilian award in India on Monday, Kangana posted a video on her Instagram handle where she thanked the government and also reminded fans about the issues she’s stood up for and against. “As an artiste, I’ve received several awards, honours, love and acknowledgments. But for the first time, I’ve been awarded by the government of India for being its loyal citizen, and I’m indebted for that. I started my career at a young age and got success only after 8-10 years. But

instead of enjoying that success, I started working on certain things like refusing to endorse fairness products, to do item numbers, to work in films by big production houses with big male actors. I ended up making more enemies than money,” the actor said in the video. The Padma Shri ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. Kangana said as she became aware about India, she decided to take “destructive forces” head-on. “I still have so many cases registered against me for the same. People often ask me why I do such things or what do I achieve by speak out as this isn’t my work. I’d say, this Padma Shri is a reply to them. It’ll silence so many people. I thank my country from the bottom of my heart for honouring me. Jai Hind,” Kangana said.
