New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday criticised the Congress over dynastic politics, hours after Gandhi-Nehru scion Priyanka Gandhi made her foray into politics. Interacting with BJP booth workers in Maharashtra, the prime minister said when it comes to BJP, decisions are not taken on the basis of what one person or one family thinks. Asserting that the BJP is driven by democratic principles, PM Modi said, “Democracy runs in the veins of BJP which is why people of the country feel closer to the party.” In an apparent reference to Priyanka Gandhi, Modi said, “In our party, decisions are taken on the basis of what party workers want.” Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also targeted the Congress for appointing Priyanka as AICC general secretary

for UP East, saying it was a step that took forward dynastic politics. “It was an appointment based on family,” which showed that dynastic politics has gone two steps forward,” she told reporters here when asked about the matter. UP BJP dismissed her appointment as a reflection of the party’s dependence on a single family and said she did not pose even a “one percent challenge”.

The Punjab CM said Guru Nanak was a universal Guru, revered by followers of all religions, especially Hindus, and urged the Centre to take up the issue with Islamabad.

Allow all pilgrims to visit Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara , not just Sikhs: Amarinder gns, Chandigarh

PUNJAB CHIEF Minister Amarinder Singh Wednesday expressed his protest against Pakistan’s proposal to allow only Sikh pilgrims to visit Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara. In a statement, the CM said Guru Nanak Dev was a universal Guru, revered by followers of all religions, especially Hindus, and urged the Centre to take up the issue with Islamabad when the latter sends its draft agreement for regulating entry into its territory through the Kartarpur Corridor. He said Islamabad was well within its rights to set terms and conditions relating to its territorial safety and security, but it should take into consideration the fact that the first Sikh Guru’s ideology was not confined to Sikhs but is emulated by people of all faiths. “The Sikh ethos prescribes non-discrimination, with even the concept of langar being casteless service for all,” said the Chief Minister. He added a large number of Hindus in India were ardent followers of Sri Guru Nanak Dev and it was their cherished

dream to visit the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara, which was closely associated with the first Sikh Guru. “There was for years the tradition of Hindu families converting their eldest sons to Sikhism. The influence of Sikhism in India was so strong that to exclude members of other religions was not something that Pakistan government should even remotely consider. To keep such followers out of Kartarpur Sahib just because they were not Sikhs was not logical, “ he said. Citing media reports of the draft agreement being prepared by the Pakistan government on entry through Kartarpur Corridor, the Chief Minister also objected to the condition of number of pilgrims proposed by them.

Hours after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was appointed as Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East on Wednesday, the BJP attacked Rahul Gandhi, saying the party president has opted for a “family alliance”, after facing “rejection” from various parties of the proposed Mahagathbandhan. The BJP said that Priyanka Vadra’s formal entry into the Congress is an admission by the party that Rahul Gandhi has “failed” in providing leadership. “The Congress has basically publicly announced that Rahul Gandhi has failed and needs crutches from within the family. Won’t field candidates if Ambedkar’s demands accepted by Cong-NCP alliance, says AIMIM gns, Pune THE All India Majlis-eIttehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has decided to not field candidates in Lok Sabha elections if the Congress-NCP alliance accept the demands made by Prakash Ambedkar, president of the Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh. Leaders of both Congress and NCP, however, said it would be impossible to accept demands raised by Ambedkar’s party as well as those raised by the Raju Shetti-led Swabhimani Paksh. “Yes, MIM will not field candidates in any of the Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra if the demands raised by BBM president are met by the Congress-NCP alliance,” said Imtiaz Jaleel, MIM MLA from Aurangabad. At a rally of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi Mahasangh last week, Jaleel had said that AIMIM president Asaduddin Owasi has made an announcement to this effect.

by grand alliance parties, he has opted for a family alliance,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said. He said it was natural that the opposition party had to “coronate” somebody from within the family and added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has projected the Lok Sabha elections as a battle between “naamdar” (dynasts) and “kaamdar” (those who have worked). The BJP leader said that the new India is asking the question,

that who will be the next leader in the Congress as he referred to its succession line from Jawaharlal Nehru to Indira Gandhi followed by Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. “All appointments are from one family. And this is the fundamental difference between the Congress and the BJP. In the Congress, the family is party. In the BJP, the party is family,” Patra said, taking a dig at the opposition party. Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also reacted, saying such postings are nothing unusual since the party (Congress) is a family concern. However, he wondered why Priyanka was given “limited role of only Eastern UP”. “Priyanka ji has become General Secretary, my good-luck to her.
