In a message played out during an event here on Wednesday to mark 50 years of India-Bangladesh ties, he also asserted that “the historic Land Boundary Agreement” (LBA) between the two countries has shown how an issue related to border can be “resolved with mutual negotiations and a constructive outlook”. This, at a time when “certain countries” have been trying to “alter the status quo

by force, and bypassing traditional rules and protocols, with complete disregard to territorial integrity of others,” Naravane said, without naming any country. The LBA epitomises the 3Ms — “mutual respect, mutual trust.

Ban on international flights to soon be lifted, confirms Civil Aviation Ministry

Agency News: New Delhi The Union Cabinet has approved the extension of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) till March next year, Union Minister Anurag Thakur told reports on Wednesday. Last year, the government had announced PM-GKAY for all beneficiaries covered by the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the wake of economic disruptions caused by the Covid-19 outbreak. “It

has been decided to extend the ‘PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana’ to provide free ration till March 2022,” Thakur said. Earlier, activists of the ‘Right to Food’ campaign have demanded extension of the scheme. In a letter to Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal, the activists said, “Under PMGKAY in 2021, all persons with a ‘priority’ or AAY ration card under the National Food Security Act (2013) are receiving an

additional 5 kg grain per person. This is a much-needed measure to support 80 crore Indians listed under the NFSA in coping with the economic distress caused due to the pandemic.” On November 5, banking on the revival of the economy and claiming its market interventions to keep prices in check are working, the Centre had announced to end the free distribution of ration under PMGKAY from November 30.

Speaking exclusively to Zee Business, Rajiv Bansal, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation said that international flight operations are expected to return to normal soon. The Central government had banned the operation of international flights on March 23 last year to contain and control the spread of Covid-19. Flight restrictions, however, were later eased under air bubble arrangement with certain countries. At present, India has formed air bubble pacts with about 28 countries. Earlier, India’s civil aviation regulator extended the ban on the scheduled international

commercial flights, till November 30. In the notification, the Directorate General of Central Aviation (DGCA), however, said: “This restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by the DGCA.” It also said that scheduled international flights might be allowed on selected routes on a case to case basis. The country had been operating Vande Bharat flights to many countries over the last one year to evacuate stranded Indians. An air bubble pact is a bridge between two countries to ease travel and allows free-flow of travellers with all the required documents.

On TMC’s involvement in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Banerjee said that her party is ready to extend help to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav if he needs it.“If Akhilesh needs our help, then we are ready to extend help,” she said as the SP chief is moving swiftly to stitch pre-poll alliances to make a comeback in the state. The Trinamool chief will be visiting Mumbai later this month where she will meet Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) head Sharad Pawar.

But as of now we don’t need a booster dose,” he said. “We are well protected and I think we should focus on getting more and more people to get the first and second dose because if we have that number in a sufficiently large amount, we will be well protected as a country.” Dr Guleria was speaking at the launch of “Going Viral”, a book on the making of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, by ICMR Director General Dr Balram Bhargava. SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Editorial

SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Modi Surprises Supporters, Opponents And The Farmers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not known for stooping. However, political compulsionsmade him roll back the three contentious farm laws last week. He has realized thatwhenever political opposition and mass movements come together, it impacts politics. As ashrewd politician, he chose to retreat. In his national television address on Friday heapologized, “Today, I beg the forgiveness of my countrymen and say with a pure heart andhonest mind that perhaps there was some shortcoming.”Modi sprang a surprise on the striking farmers, his devotees as well as his opponents. Atone stroke, he had taken away the central issue of attack from the opposition in theupcoming Parliament session and the Assembly polls to seven states. The announcement on the eve of the winter session of Parliament is also well-timed.Modi’s followers were more confused than the opponents. They had been defending thefarm laws with such fervour that they felt a sense of betrayal by his climb down. But Modiknows what he’s doing even at the cost of weakening his image. The rollback has won him laurels and brickbats. The pro-reform lobby in India and abroad isstunned by Modi’s climb down as they apprehend that it will halt the reform process, whichwould have brought new technology and investment. They were banking on Modi that hewould initiate reform, particularly in labour and agriculture. The pro-farmer lobby is delighted at the victory of the farmers, who ran their protests for ayear bearing cold and heat and also covid. The opposition too thinks that their support to thefarmers has won the day.Incidentally, the rollback could result in a change of poll strategy -- both for the BJP and theopposition. The BJP is ruling in Manipur, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand,Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, and the Congress is ruling only in Punjab. Winning UttarPradesh is crucial for the BJP. The party is happy that the opposition is not united and hasstarted intensifying the campaign and activating the party machinery. The BJP has enoughmoney and muscle power and also well-oiled party machinery. The reaction from the opposition is interesting. The Congress is beating its chest on thevision of Rahul Gandhi, who predicted that Modi has to repeal the farm laws. But winning thepoll-bound states is tough without a strong organization. For instance, Congress is presentlyin the fourth position in U.P. It can only improve its position and not win the state. The Samajwadi Party was hoping to use the farmer’s agitation as a central poll plank. The partyis also getting ready to align with the Rashtriya Lok Dal, backed by the Jats. Now it has torework its poll strategy. The divided opposition might result in a hung Assembly. The Congress could have won – Punjab easily, but the Gandhi siblings have messed up thewhole thing by getting rid of Captain Amarinder Singh last month. Captain has floated hisparty and is getting ready for an alliance with the BJP. The Captain might not win the polls, but he could damage the Congress. The rise of the Aam Admi Party is also a worry. The Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand, where a large number of Sikh farmers live, was an essential hub of the agitation. The state also does not have a strong chief ministerial face. So far the Congress and theBJP have been ruling alternately. The opposition in Haryana is flexing its muscles and can change the poll scene. But themain opposition, Congress, continues to remain disunited, facing factionalism andindiscipline. In Himachal Pradesh, the Congress is upbeat because of its victory in the recent bye-elections. The BJP faced a complete rout in the recent by-polls. It also lacks a strong chiefminister.Goa is attracting outside parties like the Trinamool Congress and Aam Admi Party. ThoughCongress emerged as the number one party in 2017, the BJP snatched away the state byforming a coalition. The same thing happened in Manipur, and Congress lost the game.Gujarat, the home state of both the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah, hasalready seen a change of chief minister. Still, it lacks a solid chief ministerial face. So is thecase with Congress. The fight will be tight. The farmer’s issue is still not closed. The farm unions have decided to continue their stir anddemand a constitutional guarantee on Minimum Support Prices, repeal of the electricity law,and action against those behind the Lakhimpur Kheri killings. They also demandcompensation for the six hundred and odd farmers who died in this - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara struggle. Will the government.

The Jonas Brothers Family Roast is out on Netflix and as expected the episode is a laugh riot. Hosted by Kenan Thompson, the episode centres on Kevin, Joe and Nick as their partners Danielle Jonas, Sophie Turner and Priyanka Chopra accompany them. In one section of the roast, Priyanka takes the stage as she roasts her husband Nick Jonas. Priyanka takes a dig at Nick’s semi-successful acting career as she says that they are both constantly teaching each other something. While Nick has taught her how to use TikTok, Priyanka has taught him “what a successful acting career looks like.” The roast left Nick hiding his face in his hands as his brothers laughed with the audience. Priyanka is a global superstar who has projects like Matrix 4 and Citadel up for release in the West and Jee Le Zaraa with Farhan Akhtar back in India. Nick, however, is known for his short appearance in the Jumanji franchise. Priyanka then moves on to roast the brothers as a team as she calls them “cute” for posting on Instagram. She says that even though they are posting all the time, the three brothers combined don’t have the number of followers that Priyanka has on Instagram. Presently, Priyanka has over 70 million followers on Instagram. She then addresses the backlash that she and Nick received after they got married and how people labelled their marriage as a publicity stunt.

Mahabharat actor Mukesh Khanna has reacted to a recent statement made by actor Kangana Ranaut, in which she likened India’s independence to getting alms. Kangana’s inflammatory statement came soon after she received the Padma Shri, and was condemned by leaders across the political spectrum. Mukesh Khanna called it ‘childish’ and ‘stupid’. He said that the statement was perhaps inspired by a deep sycophancy, and that that it should be laughed at. While he didn’t name Kangana in his note, he shared a picture of her and wrote on Instagram: “Many people have been asking me why I haven’t commented on the statement made about India’s independence recently. But let me tell you, I have. Maybe it wasn’t seen or heard. So, I thought I’d publicly issue another statement. In my opinion, this statement was childish, it was funny. It also reeked of sycophancy. Was it an attempt to show one’s lack of education, or was it a side effect of a Padma award, I don’t know. But we do know that our nation became independent on 15th August 1947. Trying to change this fact would be nothing short of stupidity. He continued, “But I would like to say that whether to say it or sing it… De di hume azaadi bina khadag bine dhaal, Sabarmati ke sant tune kar diya kamal… is as far from reality as the above statement.” He added, “The reality is that if anything scared the British away, it was the sacrifice of numerous revolutionaries of the country.
