Aap Winning A Seat In Guwahati Municipal Poll Is A Jolt To Trinamool Congress For the Delhi-based Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), winning a seat in the 2022 Guwahati Municipalelections was not exactly a major victory, but it certainly helped in consolidating its positionas the undisputed front runner among regional parties in India, currently ahead of theTrinamool Congress (TMC).The political significance of the AAP’s victory, as the party contested these elections for thefirst time, went well beyond the number of seats won. Ms Masooma Begum, the party’scandidate contesting the minority-dominated ward 42, won convincingly. Along with the localAssam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) party also winning one seat, the AAP could claim to haveresisted the massive victory sweep of the ruling NDA (BJP/AGP) coalition which ended upbagging 58 out of the 60 wards. The BJP won in 52 wards as against the AGP’s victory in 6.Most state-based observers said the outcome was not surprising given current politicaltrends in Assam. The northwest and central India recorded the highest maximum temperatures for the month of April in the last 121 years, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday. Giving the forecast for the month of May, the Met department said that in northwest and central India higher than normal maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to continue.M Mohapatra, director general (meteorology), IMD, said that while northwest and central India recorded the hottest April since the department started book keeping, India as a whole recorded the fourth hottest April month. He also said that in April, large parts of north, northwest and central
India recorded above normal temperatures because of the lack of a proper weather system that brought good rains or cloudy skies that could bring down the temperatures.“If you look at the maximum temperatures recorded in northwest and central India, it was the highest in the last 121 years,” said Mohapatra.He said that the average maximum temperature over northwest India in April was 35.90 degrees Celsius and over central India it was 37.78 degrees Celsius.
