State-run THDC India (THDCIL) has commissioned its second wind power project having capacity of 63 MW in Devbhumi Dwarka district in Gujarat. Second wind power project of 63 MW capacity was commissioned in Devbhumi Dwarka on March 31, 2017, the company said in a statement today. “The 63 MW wind power project awarded to Suzlon Energy Ltd on November 28, 2016 with scheduled commissioning period of 4 months was actually implemented and commissioned in a record period of 3 months after obtaining developer permission and transfer
permission from Gujarat government in December 2016,” it said. According to the statement, in this wind project each Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) is of 2.1 MW capacity hybrid model with WTG height of 120 metres. With the commissioning of this project, the THDCIL has become entitled to receive generation based incentive (GBI) of Rs 63 crore from the Centre. It is a
landmark achievement for THDCIL, whose installed generation capacity has now increased to 1,513 MW, it said THDCIL is one of the premier power generators in the country with installed capacity of 1,513 MW with commissioning of Tehri Dam & HPP (1000 MW), Koteshwar HEP (400 MW) and Wind Power Projects of 50 MW at Patan and 63 MW at Dwarka in Gujarat to its credit.

A total of 17 students have been booked for using unfair means in Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) Class X examinations, which concluded on March 25, this year. Nine were caught using dummy candidates while eight copying from mobile phones inside. This apart, 54 students were caught copying from chits, thus making a total of 71 cases of candidates using unfair means, caught physically by the examiner. The number of such cases in Class XII examinations, which ended on Thursday, are yet to be known. The author-
ities claimed the number of Class X students using unfair means would go up with analysis of footage collected from CCTV cameras and tablets, installed inside the halls. “This is yet to be undertaken as it has been only six days since the exams got over. State Bank of India (SBI) will begin imposing a penalty on its account holders from Saturday for not maintaining a minimum balance. In metropolitan areas, the mandatory minimum balance was set at Rs 5,000, while it is Rs 3,000 in urban areas, Rs 2,000 in semi-urban areas and Rs 1,000 in rural areas. Further, the bank will also levy a fine of Rs 50 if customers make more than three cash transactions

Why Yogi Adityanath needs to focus on the mandate..? Given his track record, it would have been naive of the BJP not to expect a degree of criticism when the party picked Yogi Adityanath as the chief minister for Uttar Pradesh. Make no mistake though. The BJP won, and it is entirely within its rights to pick anyone it wishes as the leader of the legislative party and thus as the chief minister. The Opposition will have to live with the decision. But critics too are entitled to express their views on this choice, point to his record and ask uncomfortable questions. And the BJP will have to live with that also.It would however be far more useful now to judge Yogi Adityanath and the BJP government on their performance and policies. UP threw up a historic mandate, confounding pundits and politicians alike. The mandate was a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s overwhelming popularity. It was a result of astute social engineering, where the party stitched together an alliance of the most dominant castes with the most marginalised of castes. It was a vindication of the BJP’s “pro poor” turn, which is how demonetisation was portrayed. It was a result of a degree of religious polarisation. It stemmed from the failures of both the BSP and SP-Congress alliance to project their achievements. But distilled to its core, the mandate reflected the desire of the UP voter to live a better life. UP remains one of India’s most deprived states. Its infrastructure is in a shambles. It fares poorly on education and health indicators. And it seriously lacks jobs. Across the campaign trail, when I asked voters what they wanted most, the answer was resounding, “naukri”. This promise of a better future was central to the election of “Modiji ki sarkar” in Lucknow. And it is on this yardstick that the Yogi government must be judged. If the first two weeks are any indication, the signs are not particularly encouraging though it is really too early to make any definitive pronouncement. Yogi Adityanath began by deploying “anti-Romeo” squads in various towns in UP. It is important to recognise that when the BJP promised women security and such squads in its election manifesto, it was responding to a real problem of harassment of women in society. HT has reported the disturbing, and rather disgusting, practice of mobile recharge “bhaiyas” selling phone numbers of women, based on their ”looks”, to men who would then call and hound women. The poor law and order situation under the previous government was a major reason for the SP’s loss. Women must be protected by the law, but it is doubtful that anti-Romeo squads can provide a solution to this structural problem. Instead, it runs the risk of descending into vigilantism — with mobs targeting young adults. Individual freedom is sacrosanct, and consenting couples must be allowed to pursue their lives. There is also a subtle communal subtext to this campaign. In west UP in particular, it ties in with the narrative of “love jihad”. Yogi Adityanath’s government must find other ways of addressing the real problem of harassment instead of encouraging prejudice-laced vigilantism.

The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police arrested real estate investment company Unitech Ltd.’s Managing Directors Sanjay Chandra and his brother Ajay Chandra on Friday. The two were arrested by the police from Gurugram. Police sources said. that they were arrested for failing to complete a housing project on time in Gurugram’s Sector 70. “They were not having valid permissions from competent authorities before starting the project,” said a senior police official. The duo did not return the money to the buyers who sought refund of their amount for delay in handing over the possession of the housing project in Gurugram. They are also accused of duping several people and have around 95 complaints registered against them for committing fraud to the tune of 35 crore. An FIR has been registered against them and they have been booked under section 406, 409 (breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 120 (b) (concealing criminal offence) of the Indian Penal Code. Over two dozen home buyers of Unitech’s housing projects in Noida and Gurugram had approached the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) after the builder had failed to give them possession of their flats as the per schedule.

A demand to scrap electronic voting machines (EVM) intensified on Saturday as the Congress alleged an EVM malfunctioned during an official media demonstration ahead of an assembly byelection in Madhya Pradesh next week.
