PM Modi launches 5G service Hailing the launch of 5G services as a historic day for India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his government focussed on four pillars -- price of the device, digital connectivity, the cost of data and the idea of digital first Sunvilla News: New Delhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi ushered India into the 5G era on Saturday with the launch of 5G telephony services in the country at the India Mobile Conference 2022. Available in select cities initially, the ultrahigh-speed internet on mobile phones will progressively expand to the entire country over the next few years. Hailing the momentous occasion as a historic day for the country, PM Modi said the government focussed on four pillars. “First, the price of the device. Second, digital connectivity.

Third, the cost of data. Fourth, and most important, the idea of ‘digital first’,” Modi said, adding that his government is working on “internet for all”. “This is a historic day for 21st Century India. 5G technology will revolutionise the telecom sector. This summit is global but the voice and event is local,” Modi added, saying the feat was a product of initiatives like Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. “At the time of 2G, 3G and 4G, India was dependent on other countries for technology. But with 5G, India has created new history. With 5G, India is setting a global standard in

Agency News : Bengaluru More than one-third of the 122 yatris marching along Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in his Bharat Jodo yatra are women. Physically, emotionally and mentally committed to covering 3,570 km, the women have left their families behind for 150 days for a bigger mission. These 35 women, who will cover the entire stretch across 12 states, say they are not only making memories, but have found new friends along the way and unforgettable experiences they can take back home to narrate. While their spirit is commendable, the yatra is not easy on women, but their enthusiasm remained as infectious after a day’s arduous journey as it did at dawn. spoke to

a few women yatris as the platoon entered its third leg in Karnataka. They say they feel empowered every single day as part of the Bharat Jodo yatra. The women spend a good part of each day on the road and have been provided accommodation in mobile containers that travel along with the volunteers across states. It was tough at first with many of them not used to walking such long distances and waking up in the early hours of the morning. But as the days progressed, they not only fell into a routine, but began enjoying the spirit and support they received from each other. “We need to wake up before 5:30 am as we share the accommodation with our sisters and we need to ensure that we are ready and don’t delay others. By 6am, we assemble and sing the national anthem. We also have a small prayer session and then we are off to an energized start,” says Ishita Sedha, who hails from Dehradun and is also national secretary of the Indian Youth Congress.

telecom technology for the first time,” the PM further said. Talking about the success of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Modi said: “Many made fun of my Atmanirbhar Bharat. But we increased mobile phone manufacturing units in India. Eight years ago, there were only two mobile manufacturing units. Today, there are over 200 units in India. We are at number two in the world.” “From exporting zero mobile phones in 2014, today we have become

a mobile phone exporting country worth thousands of crores. Naturally, all these efforts have had an impact on the cost of the device. Now we have started getting more features at a lower cost,” the PM added. Capable of supporting ultra-high-speed internet, the fifth generation or 5G service is expected to unleash new economic opportunities and societal benefits, serving as a transformational force for Indian society.

Kharge Resigns as Leader of Opposition in RS, Digvijaya & Chidambaram in Race to Replace Him

Agency News : New Delhi After his official entry into the Congress president race, Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge today resigned as the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha. The resignation comes a day after he filed his nomination papers for the AICC president’s election. 80-year-old Kharge’s resignation is in line with the party’s ‘One person, One post’ principle that was announced at the Udaipur ‘Chintan Shivir’ in May. Kharge sent his resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi last night. Senior leaders

P Chidambaram and Digvijaya Singh are the likely front-runners for the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha post. With the resignation, the stage is set for a contest between Kharge and Shashi Tharoor for the Congress president’s post. Kharge, a Dalit leader from Karnataka has emerged as the clear favourite. There was another entry into the race - K N Tripathi, a former Jharkhand minister, who is considered a lightweight for the contest. Kharge, Tharoor and Tripathi all filed their nominations on the last day of the process which saw the AICC headquarters come back to life after a long time, with workers swarming the complex. Kharge, flanked by top Congress leaders, has filed 14 sets of nomination papers with the proposers including Ashok Gehlot, Digvijaya Singh, A K Antony, Ambika Soni, Mukul Wasnik and members from the G-23 ginger group comprising Anand Sharma, Bhupinder Hooda, Prithviraj Chavan and Manish Tewari.

Agency News : New Delhi The Twitter account of the Pakistani government has been taken down in India. “Account Withheld. @GovtofPakistan’s account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand,” a message in the page read. Sharing a screenshot of the Pakistan government’s account,Saturday morning posted that “the Twitter account of the Government of Pakistan withheld in India.” On Friday, Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) said one of its ships “apprehended two Indian

fishing boats along with 16 crew members,” during routine surveillance in maritime zones in Pakistan. The arrests were made on Tuesday. The apprehended Indian boats were well inside Pakistani waters, the PMSA said in a statement. Pakistan and India regularly arrest rival fishermen for violating the maritime boundary, which is poorly marked at some points.Earlier on September 24, India hit back at Pakistan in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) saying that a polity claiming to seek peace with its neighbours would never sponsor cross-border terrorism

nor shelter planners of horrific Mumbai terrorist attack. The comment came after Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address to the high-level UNGA, in which he claimed that India’s illegal and unilateral actions on August 5, 2019 to change the special status of Jammu and Kashmir further undermined the prospects of peace and inflamed regional tensions. Exercising the right to reply at UNGA, Indian diplomat Mijito Vinito said it’s regrettable that the Pakistan PM made false accusations against India on this platform. “A polity that claims it seeks peace with its neighbours would never sponsor cross border terrorism. Nor would it shelter planners of the horrific Mumbai terrorist attack, disclosing their existence only under pressure from the international community,” Vinito said.

BMC Commissioner Iqbal Chahal said, “Very encouraging order in BMC coastal road matter by the Hon’ble Supreme Court bench presided by Hon’ble Justice Chandrachud yesterday... We got approval to go ahead with landscaping and underground parking works. BMC will complete this project in November 2023 as scheduled.” The development comes as the top court modified its two-year-old order to allow the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai to commence partial development work on the ongoing Mumbai Coastal Road Project. A bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli allowed the municipal corporation’s application to amend

the apex court’s order in October 2020 that permitted the civic body to reclaim sea land strictly for the purpose of road construction. The apex court was hearing on a pending appeal filed by the civic body against the Bombay High Court’s July 2019 judgement that had stalled the coastal road project due to lack of adequate environmental clearances. Despite the court in December 2019 had stayed the HC verdict, it refused to allow the corporation to move on with the massive project in totality and restricted it only to the road construction part. In October 2020, this was reiterated by the bench led by then Chief Justice of India SA Bobde. However, since then, the matter has not been heard. Speaking about the development with The Print, one of the lawyers said that the road construction work has been in full swing since the SC’s order. However, the corporation felt that other development work should be taken up to save time and escalation of costs.

Mumbai: Coastal road development work allowed by SC; BMC welcomes the decision The development comes as the top court modified its two-year-old order to allow the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai to commence partial development work in the ongoing Mumbai Coastal Road Project. Agency News: Mumbai The Supreme Court on Friday remarked that developing countries cannot be told to stop their projects only because they are likely to cause climate change. The commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has welcomed this decision and said that this decision is very encouraging.

Dream merchant Kejriw- Delhi HC Rejects Minister al peddling lies ahead of Satyendar Jain’s Plea Gujarat polls: Smriti Irani Challenging Transfer Order Sunvilla News: Ahmedabad

Union minister Smriti Irani on Saturday said Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal was peddling “new dreams and lies” during electioneering in Gujarat. She said women in Gujarat will never vote for Kejriwal for supporting those who had conspired to deprive Gujarat and Gujaratis of Narmada dam water. Addressing a gathering of workers of BJP’s women wing here, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development said the AAP national convener had felicitated those who had conspired to deprive people of the Narmada water. She accused the AAP of trying to buy BJP workers with money. Irani alleged Kejriwal is fighting the upcoming elections by spreading lies about the people of Gujarat but he will taste defeat the same way he lost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.“He is now in Gujarat to peddle new dreams and lies.. I would like to tell those who are here to contest the election that PM Modi has gifted Gujarat and

Gujaratis the gift of Vande Bharat and Ahmedabad metro trains, but your (AAP’s) ugly truth is that you are involved in a scam in the purchase of DTC buses in Delhi,” she said Kejriwal has promised a slew of “guarantees” including unemployment allowance for youth and women, free power, healthcare and education, during his campaigning in Gujarat which is mainly centred on the “Delhi model”. Calling Kejriwal a “dream merchant from Delhi,” Irani said Modi, as the chief minister of Gujarat, had struggled to ensure that women get clean drinking water from the Narmada river in their households and every family get water security. On the other hand, Kejriwal feted those who had tried to deprive Gujarat and Gujaratis of Narmada water Assembly elections are due in Gujarat in December this year.

A lower court had transferred Jain’s case following an application by the ED, which said that there was “a case of probable bias” in favour of the Delhi minister Agency News: Mumbai In a big setback for Delhi minister Satyendar Jain, the Delhi High Court on Saturday turned down his appeal challenging a trial court order to transfer the money laundering case against him to another court. The HC noted that there is no illegality in the order passed by the Principle District and Session’s Judge and all facts were duly considered while transferring the case, which is being probed the Enforcement Directorate (ED). “The question is not of an integrity or uprightness of the judge but is of an apprehension in the mind

of a party,” the court stated. “The petition is therefore, dismissed,” the court said in its order, also noting that the ED’s apprehension about Jain’s influence is not on a belated stage. Jain had moved the high court last month challenging the September 23 order of the Principal District and Sessions Judge Vinay Kumar Gupta, who transferred the money laundering case to Special Judge Vikas Dhull from Special Judge Geetanjali Goel, who was hearing his bail plea. The district judge’s order was passed on an application for transfer moved by the investigating agency. The ED had arrested Jain and two others in the money laundering case based on a Central Bureau of Investigation FIR lodged against the AAP leader in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Pilot Will Fly The Coop, Has Only 18 SUNVILLA SAMACHAR MLAs, And Lumpen, Arrogant Supporters: What Gehlot Wrote for Sonia Is Climate Change Responsible Editorial

For Turning Trees Into Gluttons? Human-caused climate change will most likely turn trees into gluttons, according to a new study published in the Journal Nature Communications. The study finds that elevated carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere have increased the wood volume- or the biomass- of forests in the United States. However, the study also clarifies that other factors like climate and pests can also affect a tree’s volume. The study found that elevated carbon levels consistently led to an increase in wood volume in 10 different temperate forest groups across the country. This suggests that trees are helping to shield Earth’s ecosystem from the impacts of global warming through their rapid growth. Brent Sohngen, co-author of the study and professor of environmental and resource economics at The Ohio State University said, “Forests are taking carbon out of the atmosphere at a rate of about 13per cent of our gross emissions.” Mr Sohngen added, “While we’re putting billions of tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, we’re actually taking much of it out just by letting our forests grow.” This phenomenon is called carbon fertilization: An influx of carbon dioxide increases a plant’s rate of photosynthesis, which combines energy from the sun, water, and nutrients from the ground and air to produce fuel for life and spurs plant growth “It’s well known that when you put a ton of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, it doesn’t stay up there forever,” Sohngen said. “A massive amount of it falls into the oceans, while the rest of it is taken up by trees and wetlands and those kinds of areas.” Over the last two decades, forests in the United States have sequestered about 700-800 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, which, according to the study, accounts for roughly 10per cent to 11 per cent of the country’s total carbon dioxide emissions. While exposure to high levels of carbon dioxide can have ill effects on natural systems and infrastructure, trees have no issue gluttoning themselves on Earth’s extra supply of greenhouse gas. To put it in perspective, if you imagine a tree as just a huge cylinder, the added volume the study finds essentially amounts to an extra tree ring, Sohngen said. Although such growth may not be noticeable to the average person, compared to the trees of 30 years ago, modern vegetation is about 20per cent to 30per cent bigger than it used to be. If applied to the Coast Redwood forests - home to some of the largest trees in the world - even a modest percentage increase means a lot of additional carbon storage in forests. Researchers also found that even older large trees continue adding biomass as they age due to elevated carbon dioxide levels. Unlike the effects of climate change, which vary over the location and in time, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere mixes almost evenly, so every place on Earth has nearly the same amount, Sohngen said. Overall, Sohngen said this work shows that the wood volume response to carbon dioxide in our ecosystem is even higher than his colleagues predicted with experimental studies. Sohngen said that carbon fertilization could one day make tree-growing efforts more efficient. For instance, if it costs $50 to plant one acre of trees today, with the help of carbon fertilization, that number could easily be decreased to $40. As climate change costs the United States about $2 trillion each year, that decrease could help drive down the cost of mitigating climate change, Sohngen said. ”Carbon fertilization certainly makes it cheaper to plant trees, avoid deforestation, or do other activities related to trying to enhance the carbon sink in forests,” Sohngen said. “We should be planting more trees and preserving older ones because at the end of the day they’re probably our best - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara bet for mitigating climate change.”

Agency News : New Delhi Sachin Pilot will leave the Congress and is the first party president of a state who tried to topple his own government — this is what Ashok Gehlot had scribbled on a handwritten note he carried to Sonia Gandhi on Thursday. He also wrote in it that Pilot had only 18 MLAs by his side. The note was captured by a photographer of Malayala Manorama as Gehlot was entering 10 Janpath, in which he addressed Sachin Pilot as “SP”. It also had a reference to “Manesar”, where 18 MLAs of the Pilot camp had moved in 2020 after rebelling, posing a threat to the Gehlot government. The note used terms like “gunda-gardi, vindictive and arrogant” for the young leader’s supporters. The note said it would have been good for the party if the observers sent to Rajasthan had mentioned this in their report. This strong attack by Gehlot on Pilot came as the Congress said it would make a decision on the Rajasthan CM issue in a couple of days. Gehlot later said he had apologised to Sonia Gandhi for the events a week ago in Jaipur when over 80 MLAs of the Congress had rebelled against any decision to anoint Sachin

The note was captured by a photographer as Gehlot was entering 10 Janpath to meet Sonia Gandhi

Pilot as the next chief minister. “Whatever happened was very sad and I am pained by it,” said the first line of Gehlot’s note. He further wrote that in politics, people change sides if the wind changes, but the same had not happened in Rajasthan. Gehlot had scribbled “102 MLAs” to cite the strong support in his favour and also mentioned “RG 1 hour”, indicative of a long meeting he had with Rahul Gandhi recently. He also alluded to the figure of Rs 10 crore and “BJP office”, as per his earlier allegation that it was the amount the saffron party had offered to each Congress MLA to jump ship. He further mentioned

“Pushkar”, in reference to a recent incident where Pilot supporters threw footwear and hooted at state ministers Ashok Chandna and Shakuntala Rawat, considered close to the CM. It is not clear if Sonia Gandhi listened to Gehlot’s list of complaints but ministers close to him said no decision of replacing him with Pilot is on the cards. Any such move is also expected to destabilise the Congress government in Rajasthan as Gehlot does enjoy the support of a large majority of MLAs. He has dropped out of the Congress president’s race after meeting Sonia Gandhi on Thursday.

On the second day alone, he made time for seven items in his schedule, including prayers at the famed Ambaji temple. The PM did not address the rally at Abu Road as he reached the venue late and said he had to obey loudspeaker rules and regulations. the Telangana government issued reservation orders, according to which a reservation of 10 per cent would be provided to Scheduled Tribes in educational institutions and government jobs. Till now, people belonging to the ST community have six per cent reservation in the state. At a recent public meeting, Chief

Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said his government would soon issue orders enhancing the quota to 10 per cent for STs in government jobs and educational institutions. A bill on the 10 per cent reservation was passed by the Telangana Assembly in April 2017 and it was sent to the Centre for obtaining the President’s assent. During these close six years the state government sent several representations in this connection, but the same is still

pending. Therefore, in these circumstances, it is expedient to enhance the percentage of Scheduled Tribe reservations, without any further loss of time, the GO said. “The Government of Telangana after careful consideration of the above special circumstances, hereby orders enhancement of reservations for the Scheduled Tribes from 6 per cent to 10 per cent in educational institutions and state government services,” the order said.

Agency News : New Delhi The final leg of India’s England tour was initially looked upon as a farewell series for veteran Jhulan Goswami. After representing the country for 20 long years, she was all set for the final hurrah at the Mecca of Cricket – Lord’s. However, by the end of the threematch ODI series, the focus shifted entirely on Deepti Sharma and captain Harmanpreet Kaur with Goswami’s farewell pushed aside as a side note. Goswami’s last game at

Lord’s will always be remembered for Sharma running Charlotte Dean out at the non-striker’s end when England needed just 17 runs to win. Whatever the Indian team had done was well within the ICC’s set of rules. The incident created a furor with a majority of English cricket fraternity invoking the spirit of the game to discredit a legal form of dismissal, disregarding the fact that the batter Dean’s own action of repeatedly gaining unfair advantage by stepping out of the non-striker’s crease before the bowler had delivered the ball throughout the match, too was against the spirit of the game. And amidst the joy of India registering their first-ever series win on English soil, captain Harmanpreet rightfully defended her teammate Deepti, lauding her awareness and underlining that Dean was getting out of the crease repeatedly. “I thought you will ask

about all the 10 wickets which were not easy to take as well. It’s part of the game I don’t think we have done something new,” the Indian skipper said at the post-match show after collecting the ‘Player of the series Award’. Her statement just reflected upon her bravery as a captain, something which is being seen in her performance as well. She was absolutely ferocious with the bat in her hand against the English girls. Barring the final ODI, she scored runs in plenty. She got an unbeaten 74 off 94 balls in the series opener and followed it up with a 111-ball 143 not-out in the second face-off. She was out for 4 at Lord’s but managed to end the series as the highest scorer with 221 runs in her kitty. “When you have ample support, you just need to focus on the performance and the same thing has been conveyed to other players of the team as well,” she added.

LOCAL NEWS Mahi told me not to take pressure. If we lose, it was on him: Gujarat Giants Joginder Singh reminisces India’s win in 2007 World T20 final

Sunvilla News: Ahmedabad Saturday marked 15 years of India’s triumph over Pakistan in the 2007 inaugural World T20 final at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. This was India’s first world title in 24 years and a moment etched in the minds of fans to date. And who better than Adani Sportsline Gujarat Giant’s Joginder Sharma — the medium-pacer who helped India notch up a famous five-run win — to reminisce about what happened on that special night? Chasing a target of 158, Pakistan needed 13 off the last six balls. An in-form Misbah-ul-Haq was looking to take the match and title away from India. Under the circumstances, Dhoni took a gamble and turned to Joginder Sharma to bowl the final over.

And Joginder delivered the goods by getting Misbah out. In a video posted by Adani Sportsline-owned Gujarat Giants on social media on Saturday, Joginder took the fans on an emotional journey and revealed what was the conversation he had with captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni while bowling the last over on that night 15 years ago. “The discussion before the final over wasn’t around what line and length I should be bowling or what should be my bowling strategy. Mahi told me not to take any kind of pressure. If we lose, it was on him.” “Even when Misbah hit me for a six off the second ball, we weren’t tense. At no point, we discussed what we needed to do. Just before I delivered the third ball, I saw Misbah getting ready to play a scoop. So I altered the length and bowled a slower one. That’s why Misbah couldn’t hit it properly. Sreesanth pulled off the catch and the rest as they say is history,” Joginder, who is playing the Legends League currently, said. Joginder said the memory is still fresh in his mind and will be forever treasured. One can hear more of it in the video that was posted on the team’s social media.
