Agency News: New Delhi National political parties in India have received Rs 3,807.83 crore as contributions in excess of Rs 20,000 from individual donors and entities between the financial years 2017-18 and 202122, and have witnessed a jump of 65 per cent during this period, official Election Commission data analysed by News18 shows. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is accountable for over 80 per cent of this contribution as it gathered Rs 3,057.03 crore in the last five years. In 2017-18, national political parties received a contribution of Rs 469.89 crore through 4,201 donors. In 202122, this increased to Rs 778.73 crore through 7,018 donations, the ECI data shows. The BJP has been the biggest receiver of the funds throughout these years and the party’s contribution has been above 75 per cent of the total funds each year. Also, BJP’s total contribution has increased by over 40 per cent – from Rs 437.04 crore in 2017-18 to Rs 614.52 crore in 2021-22. There are eight national parties in India

This has been the BSP’s stand for more than oneand-a-half decades. It claims that it only gets funds from people with small earnings. Between the financial years 2017-18 and 202122, Sharad Pawar’s NCP has got Rs 158.23 crore in excess of Rs 20,000 as contribution while for CPI(M) and TMC it was Rs 48.41 crore and Rs 53.39 crore, respectively, the data shows. Screen storm: Israeli director’s comments on ‘The Kashmir Files’
Acritical comment about an Indian film by an Israeli filmmaker at the recently concluded International Film Festival of India has sparked an unseemly controversy that has blurred the lines among film-making, diplomacy and politics. Nadav Lapid, a widely respected Israeli director who was the jury head at the film festival, described The Kashmir Files as vulgar and as propaganda. That set off a wave of pushback and apologies from Israeli diplomats who not only distanced their country from the film-maker’s views but also accused him of ignorance and thanklessness towards his host — the Government of India. Many within the Indian film industry, political class and others have also weighed in, some backing Mr Lapid, others criticising him. Yet the response to Mr Lapid’s comments only underscores the dangers of not safeguarding the right to free artistic expression from political and diplomatic considerations. The film highlights the tragedy of Kashmiri Pandits who had to flee their homeland en masse in the 1990s following threats and violence from Islamic militants. However, the movie has been accused by many of painting all Kashmiri Muslims — and not just radicalised terrorists — as villains, feeding into the divisive, Islamophobic narrative peddled by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and political fellow travellers.The fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and multiple BJP-led state governments publicly endorsed the film and bestowed tax benefits on it only lent credibility to those who claimed its fundamental aim was political and partisan. Some screenings of the films led to angry, communal sloganeering. Now Israel’s ambassador to India has suggested that his diplomats are facing threats from supporters of the film. Whether or not individual viewers of the film share Mr Lapid’s opinion, the film-maker has every right to express his thoughts. He does not represent the Israeli State. So it is unseemly for the country’s diplomats to take him on. At the same time, India must ensure the safety of Israeli diplomats. Out of over 4 crore registered voters in Gujarat, the Siddi community of Jambur, that originates from the Africa will be voting in their own tribal booth for the first time this year. In videos shared online, the voters from Jambur village, decked in their tribal attires, were seen celebrating an opportunity to exercise their right to vote. The village has 3,481 voters, with over 90 per cent belong to the Siddi community. “It is a matter of great pleasure for us that the Election Commission has decided to make a special booth for us to vote,” Rahman, a senior citizen of the village told. being built during 1588-1593 BCE. “When the fort was being built in Junagadh, our forefathers came here for work, First, we settled in Ratanpur village and then gradually settled in Jaanwar village. They were directed to furnish personal bonds of Rs 3 lakh each with 2 sureties each. The three
were further directed to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the case, every Monday. The trio was arrested in the case after a complaint was lodged by TRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy, among four legislators, against them on October 26. They are presently lodged in a jail here. Based on the complaint, cases under relevant sections-criminal conspiracy, offering bribe and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988- were filed against them.

Diesel, the most used fuel in the country, posted a 27.6 per cent rise in sales in November to 7.32 million tonnes, as compared to the same month last year. Singapore Exchange (SGX Group) and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) announced today that full scale operation of the NSE IFSC-SGX Connect is targeted to be ready by the end of second quarter of 2023. The transition of trading of SGX Nifty to NSE IFSC via the Connect is expected to take place shortly thereafter with dollar-denominated Nifty contracts to be exclusively traded on NSE IFSC. SGX Group and NSE launched the Connect on 29th July this year. Since then, both exchanges have been working closely with technology partner, TCS, and SGX members to transition the trading of Nifty contracts to NSE IFSC. The Connect enables orders from SGX members to be routed to NSE IFSC for trading and execution with clearing and settlement through SGX Derivatives Clearing. An
enhanced Connect infrastructure to support full scale Nifty trading via the Connect is expected to be delivered by TCS in early 2023. To date, 14 SGX Clearing Members have been onboarded and work will continue to onboard remaining members progressively.
