Army chief visits LoC in Kashmir

Agency | Srinagar A day after the Pakistani attack, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat today visited the forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir and asked the troops to remain alert and thwart “any misadventure” from across the border. During his interaction with the troops, he reassured them that the entire nation stands behind its soldiers in their “brave endeavours to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and integrity and maintaining peace” in the Valley. The army chief, who was on a two-day visit to Kashmir since yesterday.

Director General of Military Operations, Lt General AK Bhatt spoke to his Pakistani counterpart and expressed grave concern over the mutilation of two Indian soldiers at Krishna Ghati and the way the patrol party was targeted, said. Pakistan, however, stuck to its initial stand and repeated that it did not mutilate the bodies. Highlighting the issue of Border Action Team (BAT) training camps near the Line of Control (LoC), Bhatt blamed the Pakistan army for providing cover fire to a BAT unit. “The DGMO of the Indian army conveyed that such a dastardly and inhuman act is beyond any norms of civility and merits unequivocal condemnation and response,” the army said in a statement. The DGMO also conveyed to his Pakistani counterpart that “full fire” support was provided by the Pakistani Army post located in the vicinity of the incident site. The army said the DGMO also

Not Without My Lal Batti, Says Karnataka Minister, Defying PM Modi’s Ban Agency | Karnataka

After Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s initial reluctance to do away with the red beacon or lal batti from his official car, in compliance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s order, one of his ministers in the Congress government has refused to fall in line with the ban that came into force yesterday. He said he would remove the lal batti only if the Chief Minister directs him to do so. “If the Chief Minister asks me to remove the red beacon, I will obey his instruction and remove it,” Food and Civil Supplies Minister UT Khader said. He argued that since the state government has given him the vehicle attached with a red beacon, he doesn’t have the right to make alterations. Let

Within minutes after Kumar Vishwas told a press gathering that a few people within the Aam Aadmi Party were conspiring against him, a visibly angry Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia hit out at Vishwas, saying that airing his grievances in front of the camera was affecting the party workers morale. Speaking about the party’s efforts to placate Vishwas, Sisodia said that AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal already spoke to

him at great length. Appealing to Vishwas to raise his issues within the party forum, Sisodia said the foot soldiers of the party are being effected by this ‘On Air’ tussle. He also asked Vishwas to attend the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) at Kejriwal’s residence. Earlier, an emotional Vishwas categorically denied that

he will be joining any party and emphasised that he never aspired to become chief minister or deputy chief minister. “I have said this 10 times, told Manish Sisodia, told Arvind Kejriwal, I never wanted to get any post or join any party. I will remain a volunteer,” said Vishwas. Alleging that a few are working against him, Vishwas said that he will not apologise. “I will not ask apology from anyone,” he said. The rift within the party played out today on camera, just a day after AAP

the central government bring into force such a notification, he demanded. “I do not have power to alter my car. It is left to the cabinet to decide,” he said. Mocking the central government’s ban, he said the aim of the government should be to bring common people to the level of VIPs if it wants to end the ‘VIP culture’. He said, “It’s not that I am moving around with the red beacon on my head. It is installed on my car.” “Having said that,” the Congress minister added, “I am not saying no, but

most importantly it should introduce schemes wherein it is possible to fill the stomachs of people and provide education.” The AAP government in Delhi was the first to bar its ministers from using red beacons on their official vehicles. Captain Amarinder Singh, too, made a similar demand from his cabinet when he became the Chief Minister of Punjab in March. Now, under the central government ban, only blue beacons are allowed on emergency vehicles like the police, ambulance and fire tenders.

Is AAP heading for split? Arvind Kejriwal loses Kumar’s Vishwas Amidst rumours of a split within the Aam Aadmi Party that erupted after the MCD elections 2017, AAP leader and Hindi poet Kumar Vishwas today broke down on camera, saying he won’t apologise to anyone for the video in which he had apparently attacked AAP convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for the latter’s past stand on corruption within the party. Amidst rumours of internal turmoil in AAP, an emotional Vishwas, breaking down on camera while talking to reporters in New Delhi surprised many and also hinted a lot about the troubles that have hit the party after MCD elections. Last month, Vishwas had released a 13-minute video titled ‘We The Nation’ in which the popular AAP leader had hinted at corruption within AAP-led Delhi government. The video released after the AAP’s poor performance in recently-concluded MCD elections, Vishwas had indirectly told Kejriwal, “If you are voted on the plank of anti-corruption, and then your own people are found to be indulging in corruption and you remain silent, people will question you.” Kumar had also appealed to people to move beyond personality-centric politics that puts much of its focus on top leaders like Kejriwal, PM Narendra Modi or Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Attacking Modi, Kumar had commented on the Maoist attack on CRPF Jawans in Sukma, Chhattisgarh. “…If you are voted on the plank of nationalism and then your nation’s sons are attacked, you will be questioned,” the AAP leader had said. Following the release of Kumar’s video, rumours of a brewing division within AAP started doing the rounds. One AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan even accused Vishwas of working at the behest of BJP to create a rift in the AAP. Khan had alleged that Vishwas asked some AAP MLAs to join the BJP with the offer of Rs 30 crore each, according to IANS. Khan, who is an MLA from Okhla, had also circulated a message on WhatsApp alleging Vishwas had called some AAP MLAs to his home with the offer. “Kumar Vishwas called some MLAs and asked them that he should be made the party convenor,” the Whatsapp message circulated by Khan said, adding, Vishwas also made a “second offer” to MLAs “to join the BJP which was ready to pay Rs 30 crore to each one of them.” As controversies struck AAP, party chief Kejriwal took to Twitter on Sunday to clarify that there was no rift between him and Vishwas. “Kumar (Vishwas) is my younger brother. A few people are trying to show a rift between use, such people are enemies of the party (AAP). They should stop doing that. Nobody can separate us,” the Delhi CM tweeted. On Monday, AAP’s Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan reportedly submitted his resignation to Kejriwal. It appeared that the brewing storm in AAP may have halted for the time being. However, Vishwas’ statements on camera today indicated he was under pressure to apologise for his remarks in ‘We The Nation’ video.

While some agreed with the Queen actor, others like Alia Bhatt said it doesn’t matter if you are a star kid, as at the end of the day all that matters is your talent. Priyanka Chopra who is currently, one of the leading ladies of Bollywood, during an interview with Mid-day, shared how she had faced rejection in Bollywood. She was asked that in an industry where most of the superstars are outsiders including Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, where does she stand in the nepotism debate. “All kinds exist. There is nothing wrong in being born into a family that has a legacy. Outsiders don’t have a foot-in-the-door access. Star kids have the insurmountable pressure of living up to the family name. Every star has their individual journey. In mine, I have faced a lot.

When Deepika broke down on a film’s set Agency | New Delhi Actress Deepika Padukone had broken down on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela due to last-minute changes in the dialogues, says Garima Wahal, who co-wrote the 2013 film with Siddharth Singh. The two writers’ dialogues have been mouthed by celebrities like Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh and Sushant Singh Rajput. Did anyone struggle while delivering dialogues penned by them? “Usually, actors find it really easy to say our lines. We try and accomodate it in their world. That’s why it becomes important for writers to

narrate their own scripts to the actors,” Singh said. Wahal pointed out that back in 2013, on the sets of “…Ram-Leela”, Deepika didn’t have a smooth day because of their dialogues. “It was Day 1 of shoot for her. Deepika had broken down because of some last-minute changes in the dialogues. Last-minute changes are a favourite thing with Sanjay sir. We guess he does it to derive a certain spontaneity out of actors and to break their rhythm. She’s usually very good with memorising her lines but the change meant completely upsetting her pattern. We sat with her that entire day and worked the lines till she got fully comfortable

with that.” Talking about the scene, Singh said: “This is the scene where Ram and Leela meet for the first time as heads of their clans and divide their business periphery. What she did with the scene is something that’s out for the world to see.
