“None Of China’s Business”: US On Joint Military Exercises With India Agency News: New Delhi

The US has affirmed that it stands with India against China’s objections to India-US joint military exercises in the border state of Uttarakhand. “I would point you to the comments by my Indian colleagues, that it’s none of their (China’s) business,” said Elizabeth Jones, the US Charge d’ Affaires in India. After China said the exercises in Auli — it happens to be around 100 km from the border — violates the spirit of two border agreements, the Indian foreign ministry responded sharply on Thursday: “India exercises with whomsoever it chooses to and we do not give veto to third countries on this issue.” Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said the joint exercises have “nothing to do with the 1993 and 1996 agreements” with China.

“Since these were raised by the Chinese side, let me emphasise that the Chinese side needs to reflect and think about its own breach of these agreements of 1993 and 1996,” Mr Bagchi said, responding to questions on the issue. The 1993 agreement with Beijing deals with maintaining peace along the Line of Actual Control and adjacent areas. India is currently holding its 18th joint military exercise with the US -- “Yudh Abhyas” -- in Uttarakhand, around 100 km from the Line of Actual Control. The US interim envoy, besides speaking on foreign policy vis-a-vis China, was also asked about trade and a possible priority deal for India. She said that since trade has doubled in the last seven years to $157 billion, “I don’t think anyone believes we need a trade deal. There is no discussion on that at this point.”

Delhi BJP Alleges Violation BJP’s Narottam Mishra Takes Swipe at G20 Presidency Rotational, Rahul For Walking With Swara Bhasker; Inevitable; Govt Indulging in of Model Code of Conduct SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Asks Cong’s Stand on Uniform Civil Code ‘high Voltage Drama’: Congress India’s G20 Presidency Will Work to by CM Arvind Kejriwal The comment came Editorial

Promote Universal Sense of One-Ness

Today, India commences its G20 Presidency. The previous 17 Presidencies of the G20 delivered significant results — for ensuring macro-economic stability, rationalising international taxation, relieving debt-burden on countries, among many other outcomes. We will benefit from these achievements, and build further upon them. However, as India assumes this important mantle, I ask myself — can the G20 go further still? Can we catalyse a fundamental mindset shift, to benefit humanity as a whole? I believe we can. Our mindsets are shaped by our circumstances. Through all of history, humanity lived in scarcity. We fought for limited resources, because our survival depended on denying them to others. Confrontation and competition — between ideas, ideologies and identities — became the norm. Unfortunately, we remain trapped in the same zero-sum mindset even today. We see it when countries fight over territory or resources. We see it when supplies of essential goods are weaponised. We see it when vaccines are hoarded by a few, even as billions remain vulnerable. Some may argue that confrontation and greed are just human nature. I disagree. If humans were inherently selfish, what would explain the lasting appeal of so many spiritual traditions that advocate the fundamental one-ness of us all? One such tradition, popular in India, sees all living beings, and even inanimate things, as composed of the same five basic elements – the panch tatva of earth, water, fire, air and space. Harmony among these elements — within us and between us — is essential for our physical, social and environmental well-being. India’s G20 Presidency will work to promote this universal sense of one-ness. Hence our theme - ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.This is not just a slogan. It takes into account recent changes in human circumstances, which we have collectively failed to appreciate.Today, we have the means to produce enough to meet the basic needs of all people in the world. Today, we do not need to fight for our survival — our era need not be one of war. Indeed, it must not be one!Today, the greatest challenges we face — climate change, terrorism, and pandemics — can be solved not by fighting each - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara other, but only by acting together.

Case Filed Against 12 Over Ragging Junior In College In Assam Agency News: Jorhat A case has been lodged against 12 people by a premier college in Assam’s Jorhat district on allegations of ragging raised by a junior hostel inmate and pressurising him to withdraw a complaint against them, a police officer said on Friday. The police have started an investigation though no arrests have been made thus far, he said. The principal of Jagannath Barooah (JB) College had filed a complaint at Jorhat Police Station on Thursday against the 12 accused based on a written submission from the aggrieved student. The case comes close on the heels of two instances of alleged ragging in Dibrugarh. Giving details of the J B College incident, the police officer said, “We received the complaint on Thursday evening. After going through it, we lodged an FIR today.” The FIR has named eight present and one former students of the institute as among the accused for indulging in ragging. Another

three persons have been named for allegedly pressuring the student to withdraw his initial complaint to the college authorities. The college authorities said the student in the first semester of the three-year degree course had approached the Syed Abdul Malik Hostel authorities in early September with a complaint of “facing an uncomfortable situation” in the hostel. The student has since then left the hostel. The decision to file the FIR was taken as the student re-approached the authorities three days back, they said. The anti-ragging committee of the college has also been entrusted with probing the matter and it will submit its report within seven to 10 days, the college authorities added. In the Dibrugarh University incident, which took place on November 26, a student of M.Com first-semester was tortured brutally following which he jumped from the second floor of the hostel to save himself from ragging and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital there.

HC Says Anil Deshmukh’s Bail Plea Should Get Priority in View of His Medical Condition; Hearing on Dec 6 Agency News: Mumbai The Bombay High Court on Friday said it was of the prima facie opinion that considering the medical condition of former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, priority should be given to his bail plea in a case of corruption and misuse of official position being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Deshmukh, 74, had approached the high court after a special CBI court rejected his bail plea last month. He sought bail both on medical grounds as well as on merits. When the plea was heard on Friday, Deshmukh’s counsel Vikram Chaudhari told a single bench of Justice M S Karnik that the former minister was being treated but he suffers from several ailments that requires constant treatment and care.”He needs to be released. He is a chronic patient,” Chaudhari said.

Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, appearing for the CBI, opposed the same and said he is getting proper treatment in jail whenever required. ”His present medical condition needs to be ascertained. Medical condition is not static…it keeps changing,” Singh said. Justice Karnik after hearing the matter briefly said the court would hear the bail plea on merits. ”I am satisfied that we can proceed with the hearing on merits and give it priority. This is my prima facie opinion that priority should be given. One of the medical ailment is degenerative,” Justice Karnik said. The court said it would hear the plea on December 6.
