Australia ropes in ‘Ashwin duplicate’ Maheesh Pithiya to train ahead of Test series against India

Agency News : New Delhi

Australia have roped in Maheesh Pithiya, a 21-year-old spinner with uncanny resemblance to Ravichandran Ashwin, to train on spin-friendly tracks as part of their preparation for the upcoming Test series against India. Offspinner Ashwin may prove to be a major threat for Australia, who haven’t won a Test series in India since 2004. Expecting spin to play a major role in the fourTest series, the visitors have opted for tailor-made pitches and have availed the services of Pithiya to get accustomed to the action of Ashwin. The four-Test series

begins in Nagpur on February 9.

“Of all the stops Australia have pulled out to prepare for their trip to India, the most noticeable at their Test tour’s first training session was the presence of a Ravichandran Ashwin duplicate,” a report in cricket.com.au said. With facing spin the major focus on Thursday.

League Cup: Manchester United eye first trophy in six years

Agency News : New Delhi

This time last year, the mood at Manchester United was positively toxic. The club was on their third manager of the campaign, they would soon be out of all three Cup competitions in addition to being hopelessly adrift in the Premier League, the football was awful, the players had lost all stomach for a fight and there was mutiny in the stands. The turnaround in eight months under Erik ten Hag, then, has been startling and, while there is a long way to go before anyone can say with any conviction that United are back, the Dutchman has wasted no time propelling

the club back into contention for leading honours. Newcastle now stand between United and a first trophy for six years at Wembley on February 26, when old money will meet new, and Ten Hag will hope the League Cup can be a springboard to bigger things in a way it once was — twice, in fact — for Alex Ferguson. Of course, there are no guarantees of that. United hoped League Cup success would prove a launchpad back in 2017 under Jose Mourinho, who also won the Europa League three months later. Yet it was not too long before United were back at square one and in desperate need of reinvigoration.

More Indians preferred getting their cars financed in 2022 even as the average budget increased by 30%. The India Mileage report 2022 report by CARS24 shared that more millennials shopped for cars in 2022, majority buyers are under 35 years. This trend highlights that young customers are driving the sector and options of car finance in the form of EMI have seen a wider acceptance. At the same time, people are willing to spend a higher amount on cars without compromising on their choices, safety or quality. Many people take a loan for the purpose of owning a car and the process involves some steps before the

loan is approved. There are a few important things which need to be looked at carefully before applying for a loan for buying a car/vehicle. There is a common consumer behaviour to check carefully each and every item bought from the market whether online or offline. This also becomes crucial when you are seeking money in the form of a loan. Just thinking that the lender is financing you, doesn’t mean you don’t have the options to go through in details before finalising the agreement. Even after completing the repayment/closing of your car loan, do not forget to take a detailed loan closure statement, no objection certificate and repayment statement.

India’s services sector growth eases slightly in January

Agency News : New Delhi

The Indian services sector growth rate moderated in January as output and sales rose at softer rates, while subdued level of confidence among service providers towards future outlook appeared to have stymied job creation, a monthly survey said on Friday. The seasonally adjusted S&P Global India Services PMI Business Activity Index fell from 58.5 in December to 57.2 in January. Despite easing from December, the latest figure remained above its long-run average (53.5) and the upturn was associated with favourable demand conditions and ongoing increase in new work. For the 18th straight month, the headline figure was above the neutral 50 threshold.

In Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) parlance, a print above 50 means expansion while a score below 50 denotes contraction. Growth across the service sector lost some momentum at the start of the year, said Pollyanna De Lima, Economics Associate Director at S&P Global Market Intelligence. The survey further said the rise in total new business was centred on the domestic market, as international orders decreased. On the price front, there were slower increase in both input costs and output charges.

The benefit of the revamped I-T regime will percolate down to every section of the taxpayer and the government expects a ‘fabulous’ response to it, a top Income Tax official said on Friday.

The 2023-24 Budget has proposed changes to the new optional tax regime which provides that no tax would be levied on annual income of up to Rs 7 lakh. It also allowed taxpayers to claim standard deduction of Rs 50,000 -- a move seen as a push for the salaried class to switch to the new tax regime where no exemptions on investments are provided. “The benefit percolates down to every section of taxpayer.... Considering that standard deduction will be

available to salaried taxpayers in the new regime, effectively a salaried employee with an income of Rs 7.50 lakh would not be required to pay any tax,” Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Nitin Gupta said. In addition to extending the standard deduction, the Budget has also raised the exemption limit and tweaked the tax rates to make the new regime, which was originally introduced in 2020-21, attractive to taxpayers. Under the revamped new tax regime, no tax would be levied for income up to Rs 3 lakh. Income between Rs 3-6 lakh would be taxed at 5 per cent; Rs 6-9 lakh at 10 per cent, Rs 9-12 lakh at 15 per cent, Rs 12-15 lakh at 20 per cent and income of Rs 15 lakh and above will be taxed at 30 per cent.
