BJP Clear on Mission Kashmir: Amit Shah Agency : BENGALURU BJP President Amit Shah Friday said that mission of integration of Jammu and Kashmir was BJPs top priority. Shah was addressing party’s National Executive members at Bengaluru, who had gathered from across India. Shah avoided taking the responsibility of Delhi’s defeat, however, he projected a brave front over party’s alliance with the PDP in Jammu & Kashmir. “The unity and integrity of the country are article of faith for us. We are very clear about our

mission of integration of J&K. National Interest is our top priority (in Kashmir) and not remaining in power,” Shah said. Terming 2014 as the “year of celebration” for the party for its stellar electoral performances at the national as well as state level (Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, Jammu & Kashmir), the BJP president conceded Delhi defeat as a “setback” but called on party cadres not to get demotivated and expressed confidence over party’s victory in Bihar assembly elections later this year.

Air India to fly out of Sana’a with 550 Indians Agency : New Delhi In a big relief for Indians stuck inside Yemen, the government on Friday received permission to fly its nationals out of the capital city of Sana’a. The two Air India Airbus-321 planes on standby in Muscat were pressed into service and evacuated around 550 stranded nationals to Djibouti from where they will be flown to India, officials said. Significantly scaling up evacuation efforts, the armed forces plan to bring back around 850 passengers to India by early hours on Saturday in two C17 Globemasters and an Air India Boeing-777 aircraft. Confirming the news to The Hindu, Minister of State for Overseas Indian Affairs Gen (Retd) V.K. criticism that it was following policies of the previous United Progressive Alliance government but he sought to debunk this perception. "Whatever your policy, your intention was not right, ours is. Hence we have gone ahead in the race of development," he said. Among his Washington contacts are Vice President Joe Biden, former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and both Republican and Democrat national security officials. Goa FabIndia store's trial room, four detained Agency : New Delhi Union minister Smriti Irani spotted a camera in the trial room of an apparel store in Goa on Friday, sparking a debate over privacy concerns at such facilities in the tourism-dependent coastal villages in the state. Irani, on a two-day visit to Goa, came across the camera when she was at a FabIndia showroom at Candolim village, 20km north of state capital Panaji, to buy clothes. She immediately alerted her husband, businessman Zubin Irani, said superintendent of police (North) Umesh Gaonkar. Irani then called BJP legislator Micheal Lobo, who lodged an FIR on her behalf. “When we went and switched the camera on, the

entire video was recorded... This is mischief... Somebody has been watching the recordings," the MLA said. Calangute police found a CCTV camera installed in the ventilation unit of the room. "The camera was installed outside the changing room, but it seemed to have a view of the inside," said police inspector Nilesh Rane. SP

Gaonkar said four staff members of the showroom were detained and that objectionable images were seen from the recordings of the hidden camera that was seized by police. Irani could not be contacted. Lobo, who represents Calangute in the state assembly, said the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government was taking the matter seriously.

Congress attacks AAP for 'total failure' in first 49 days

coordinating their return to India. “We have been stuck for two days because of the lack of permission to land in Sana’a,” He told The Hindu, “If all goes well, we hope to bring atleast 500 more Indians out of Yemen Friday.” Djibouti has become the nodal point for all Indian evacuation efforts. Due to lack of a safe passage by road out of Sana’a all nationals will be moved to Djibouti by air and then flown to India, officials informed. According to Air Force officials, in addition to the two Air India A-321 aircraft another Air India aircraft, a

Boeing 777 long range plane that can typically carry between 300 and 450 passengers has been sent from Mumbai to Djibouti. The two Air India planes have been on standby at Muscat airport, waiting for clearance from Saudi Arabian authorities, who control the airspace over the capital and have been conducting regular airstrikes on Yemen. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud earlier this week, but permission had been held up while the bombing continued.

Agency : New Delhi As AAP government completes 49 days in office -- the tenure of its first stint, Congress on Friday mounted a blistering attack on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of "total failure" in governance due to "excessive" focus on containing dissidence in the party. Delhi Congress Chief Ajay Maken said the entire city was suffering due "absence of governance" and particularly hit out at Kejriwal for "deteriorating" financial position of the government. "The internal fight in AAP has seriously affected governance in Delhi. The Chief Minister is only focussing on party affairs. There is a total absence of governance. Kejriwal has totally failed to deliver,"

Maken said. The former Union Minister also accused Kejriwal of failing to "rein in" private power distribution companies and said instead of giving around Rs 1,670 crore to the discoms per annum under the power subsidy scheme, government should have ensured transparency in the sector and passed on the benefits to consumers. "There is a deficit of Rs 4,500 crore in the financial year 2014-15. There has been a huge shortfall in revenue collection. The situation is very worrying. The development scenario in Delhi is really scary," Maken said. He also slammed Kejriwal for not releasing adequate financial assistance to municipal corporation, saying fund crunch has

severely affected garbage removal and other operations of the civic bodies. The DPCC Chief also took pot shot at Kejriwal for removing AAP's internal Lokpal L Ramdas, a former Navy Chief. "The AAP was formed following the Lokpal movement and now see how the party's own Lokpal was removed. There is no internal democracy in the party. The party is in shambles." Maken

said removal of Ramdas has "proved" that "AAP does not want a want a 'majboot' (strong) Lokpal but they want a 'majbur' (helpless) Lokpal." The DPCC chief alleged that the AAP government was fighting with the Lt Governor, Haryana Government and municipal corporations on a range of issues rather than providing governance to the people of the city.

In 2050, India’s Muslim population will be largest globally India will overtake Indonesia as the country with the largest number of Muslims in 2050 while Hindus will become the world’s third largest population by that time, according to a new study by a US think-tank. According to the Pew Research Center’s religious profile predictions assessed data released yesterday, Muslims are projected to grow faster than the world’s overall population and that Hindus and Christians are to roughly keep pace with worldwide population growth. “India will retain a Hindu majority but also will have the largest Muslim population of any country in the world, surpassing Indonesia,” the Pew report said. According to Pew in 2011, Indonesia had a Muslim population of about 205 million as against India’s 177 million. “Over the next four decades, Christians will remain the largest religious group, but Islam will grow faster than any other major religion,” it said. The report predicted that by 2050 there will be near parity between Muslims (2.8 billion, or 30 per cent of the population) and Christians (2.9 billion, or 31 per cent), possibly for the first time in history. There were 1.6 billion Muslims in 2010, compared to 2.17 billion Christians. “The number of Muslims will nearly equal the number of Christians around the world,” the report said. If the trend continues, Islam will be the most popular faith in the world after 2070, it said. By 2050, Muslims will make up about 10 per cent of the Europe’s population, up from 5.9 per cent in 2010. The Hindu population is projected to rise by 34 per cent worldwide, from a little over 1 billion to nearly 1.4 billion by 2050. By that time, Hindus will be third, making up 14.9 per cent of the world’s total population, followed by people who do not affiliate with any religion, accounting for 13.2 per cent, the report said. The people with no religious affiliation currently have the third largest share of the world’s total population. Over the same period, the number of Hindus in Europe is expected to roughly double, from a little under 1.4 million (0.2 per cent of Europe’s population) to nearly 2.7 million (0.4 per cent), mainly as a result of immigration, the report said. In North America, the Hindu share of the population is expected to nearly double in the decades ahead, from 0.7 per cent in 2010 to 1.3 per cent in 2050, when migration is included in the projection models. Without migration, the Hindu share of the region’s population would remain the same. According to projections, the proportion of the British population identifying themselves as Christian will reduce by almost a third by 2050 to stand at just 45.4 per cent, compared with almost two thirds in 2010. The predictions confirm analysis from the most recent UK census which saw the number of children growing up as Muslims in the UK almost double in a decade. If the projections, which are based on official population figures, birth rates and immigration estimates from around the world, are borne out, it could amount to the most significant religious realignment in Britain since the arrival of Christianity. It would mean that by 2050 Britain would have the third largest Muslim community, as a share of the population in Europe, overtaking France, Germany, Belgium and a handful of other countries.

However, while this may be enough to get Paul Walker and F&F fans to ‘Furious 7', even the diehard ones will be hard pressed to find anything new in its chases, crashes and collisions. Except that cars don’t just frequently drive off cliffs and other such heights, they also airdrop down to Caucasus mountains, and race off one tower at Abu Dhabi to land

WLF seeks larger pictorial warnings on tobacco packs

Agency : New Delhi The World Lung Foundation on Thursday asked India to dismiss misinformation being spread by the tobacco industry and implement large graphic health warnings on tobacco packs without further delay. The implementation of the warnings would be a fitting tribute to the bravery of cancer patient Sunita Tomar, who died on Wednesday, the foundation said. The central government has decided to rescind its decision to increase the pictorial warnings on tobacco products to 85 percent. Tomar was the face of antitobacco warnings. After a diagnosis of tobacco-related

oral cancer and major surgery at the Tata Memorial Hospital, Tomar - with the support of her family agreed to tell her story in a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to raise awareness about the harms of tobacco and to help prevent others from suffering her fate. The foundation, in a statement, said large graphic warnings, like hard-hitting mass media campaigns, have proved to be highly effective in warning people about the health harms of tobacco. Large graphic warnings also transcend language barriers in countries like India, where different languages and dialects are used across a large national population.

Royals seek to replace Bengaluru at No. 2 spot

Agency : BENGALURU Royal Wahingdoh’s dream run makes a crucial pitstop at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium where it takes on Bengaluru FC (BFC) in an I-league fixture here on Friday. Wahingdoh’s maiden season in the I-League could not have gone any better. The side is in third-place — tied on points with BFC, but

behind on head-on-head and goal-difference — and is coming off hugely impressive wins over Pune FC and East Bengal. “Those two matches, against powerful clubs, were mindblowing! If the players do exactly what the coach says, what more can you ask for,” said coach Santosh Kashyap here on Thursday. “I think

our Federation Cup campaign was very important. Our players were given exposure to top-level football just before the ILeague began. This gave them tremendous confidence. We have a very talented squad; they adapt to situations very well. We’ve played brilliant football,” Kashyap said. BFC, of course, is regarded a perennial heavyweight threat. Three fine shows — two scrappy 1-0 wins against Warriors FC in the AFC Cup and Salgaocar, followed by a 4-1 rout of Sporting Clube de Goa — point to a team easing into top-gear. Three points for either of these form sides will be invaluable as they focus all energies on the ILeague crown.

Agency : New Delhi India's premier women's doubles shuttler Jwala Gutta on Thursday lashed out at the Indian government after finding herself left out of the scheme to fund the country's top prospective medal winners at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Jwala's doubles partner Ashiwni Ponnappa -- 2011 World Championships bronze medallists -- was also left out of the Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme of

the sports ministry that is supposed to fund prospective medal winners. Badminton has become the first sport to benefit from the scheme. The ministry of youth affairs and sports signed a Memorandum of Understanding with India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited (IIFCL), a company under the finance ministry, to provide financial support to badminton on March 30. According to the MOU,

IIFCL will contribute Rs.30 crore (Rs.10 crore each year for three years) to the scheme under its initiatives for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Jwala came down hard on the government for its decision to exclude the duo from the important scheme. "So, I just read news aboutAshwini and my names not being there in top scheme. The only support we had was of the Govt. of India...and now that also seems bleak," Jwala wrote on her Facebook page on Thursday. "The players who are already having lot of corporate support are in the list...and Ash and me not considered. Dont know what more to be done...Kinda tired...kinda disappointed. And if we speak its called cribbing...and if we dont we will be just left out." Jwala said that inspite of all the hardships faced by the doubles players in the country, they had still won laurels and were looking towards the government for support in order to sustain their performance at international events.

Housing row: VMC reaches out to displaced families, promises quick solution

Correspondent, Vadodara

A day after The Indian Express reported about the suspension of draw of allotment for JNNURM housing scheme flats for residents displaced due to demolition drives at Kalyannagar and Kamatipura slums — most of them are Muslims — Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) assured the representatives of the displaced families that they would soon have a home to call their own. Although non-committal about a time frame, owing to the lack of communication from Mayor Bharat Shah, corporation officials assured representatives pushing the families’ case that the matter would be resolved “at the earliest”. Municipal Commissioner H S Patel, who had refused to meet the

representatives on Wednesday evening, sent executive engineer of Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) Housing department F J Charpot to meet Prof J S Bandukwala, who has taken up the cause of the evicted, at his Vadodara residence on Thursday. The VMC official handed out a list of families that need to be settled in civic housing projects after their homes were razed in November to Bandukwala. Shaukat Indori, one of those fighting for the evicted families, said: “The engineer met Bandukwala with a list of 481 families of Kalyannagar alone. In addition, nearly 170 families of Kamatipura settlement who have not been rehabilitated are also awaiting their turn. Bandukwala has also requested VMC to resolve

the matter of 268 other families that have been temporarily put up in Maneja.

pm. So due to the sun set the moon will appear in dark red colour during the eclipse time and will give a rare celestial treat in the sky. Many people around the world called this moon as blood moon. The most spectacular part of the eclipse will be the totality phase, when Earth’s shadow completely covers the moon and turns it an eerie red. The moon will only skirt the deepest and darkest part of Earth’s shadow, or umbra, and totality could last anywhere from nine to twelve minutes. During a lunar eclipse, Earth comes between the moon and the sun, casting a shadow. This lineup doesn’t happen every time the moon makes its monthly trek around Earth, though, because the orbit is tilted and usually keeps the moon out of Earth’s shadow. Total lunar eclipses, known as blood moons, are even more rare. They happen only during a full moon, and only when the sun, Earth, and moon are precisely aligned so that our planet’s shadow completely blankets the moon’s disk.

Doctors are treating to several patients with dengue-like fever which does not test positive to mosquito-borne disease. In January alone, there were 419 cases of dengue-like fever, of which 37 were confirmed. In February, this increased to 545 with 13 positive cases. Emergency and critical care specialist Dr Jigar Mehta said: "There's a huge possibility of a mystery virus
