New Delhi : Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri Wednesday alleged that the AAP is seeking votes from Delhiites by spreading "lies" on several issues and asserted that a party which does not have the expertise of running an administration nor dedication towards works, is resorting to lies. The Union housing and urban affairs minister tweeted a purported campaign pamphlet of AAP's east Delhi candidate Atishi and said a bunch of lies has been prepared by her. In the pamphlet, the party promises regularisation of unauthorised colonies once the national capital gets full statehood and also promises to stop the sealing drive in the city. "Every citizen knows that the sealing drive had been carried out following the direction of the Supreme Court-appointed Bhure Lal committee, and neither the Centre nor any civic body had anything to do with it," Puri said in a series of tweets in Hindi.

BJP will free Bengal from SC ruling to significantly push up ‘speed breaker Didi’, says Modi pension of private sector employees

Kolkata : Kicking off BJP’s election campaign in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday described TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee as a “speed breaker” in the path of the state’s development. Addressing a rally in Siliguri, Modi said the BJP was committed to free the people of Bengal from “speed-breaker Didi”. Banerjee is often referred to as Didi (elder sister) in the state. “It is true that we could not usher in speedy development in West Bengal like we did in other states. This is due to the fact that there is a speedbreaker in West Bengal which is known as Didi (Mamata Banerjee). She does not want to eradicate poverty. If poverty goes away, then their politics will come to an end. They want to see poverty and that’s why they have stopped development projects for the poor,” Modi said. Listing the Central schemes stopped by “speed-breaker Didi” in Bengal, PM Modi said these included Ayushman Yojna and Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act. “Mamata Banerjee’s list of stopping Central schemes is long. She stopped the Ayushman Yojna scheme that provides free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh to the poor people. She also

stopped development to about 70 lakh farmers. She also stopped the implementation of RERA, which we brought to stop builders from looting the money of the people,” the PM said. Modi also attacked the Left in the same breath and called TMC and the CPI(M) two sides of the same coin. “Earlier, the Left used to do this and now Didi is doing it more aggressively. Left and TMC are two sides of the same coin. But they must remember that their fight is with a ‘chowkidar’,” he said. The Prime Minister also lashed out at Banerjee over chit fund scams and criticised her for raising questions on the IAF airstrikes in Balakot.

“There was a chit fund scam in Bengal in which TMC leaders looted the poor people. Didi helped her party leaders get the hard-earned money of the poor through this scam. After we carried out airstrikes in Balakot, our own people started crying. Why are you feeling hurt when the wound is somewhere else? Didi did not like it. Even leaders of the mahagathbandhan did not like it. They have become a hero in Pakistan and featured in their media,” he said.

New Delhi : Private sector employees will see their pension shoot up under Employees Pension Scheme (EPS), 1995, thanks to a Supreme Court ruling on. The ruling dismissed a special leave petition filed by Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) against a 2018 Kerala High Court order that had asked the retirement fund body to give pension to all retiring employees on the basis of their full salary, rather than capping the figure on which contribution is calculated at a maximum of Rs 15,000 per month. All employees in the organised sector currently contribute 12% of their salary (basic salary+dearness allowance) to the EPF. The employer makes a matching contribution, of which 8.33% goes to the EPS, subject to a salary cap of Rs 15,000. Back in March 1996, the EPS Act was amended to allow members to raise the EPS contribution to 8.33% of their full salary (basic + DA) - provided the employee and employer had no objection - thereby doing away with the cap on salary. they should be prepared for a bigger fight and Mehbooba Mufti will be in the forefront of that fight. The year 2020 will then also be Jammu and Kashmir’s deadline to the country,” she said while flanked by her party workers and leaders. Regarding a separate prime minister for Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP president said that NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah should have made that point when he signed the

1975 accord, and insisted on the restoration of the prime minister’s post. “After that, the National Conference had two-third majority for all these years, unfortunately they did nothing of the sort. Today, they are talking (about PM for J&K), if that happens why not.” The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said they will do everything to defend Article 370. “The whole state is together on this.” The PDP president also said that the points about Jammu and Kashmir in Congress’s manifesto, which was released by the party in Delhi, are similar to those of the PDP’s Agenda of Alliance document with the BJP.

New Delhi: The Congress claimed to have busted a cash-for-votes scandal in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally today morning. Around midnight, just hours before the rally, Rs. 1.8 crore in cash was recovered by the police, in presence of election officials, from a local guesthouse. The two cars which contained the stash were part of a BJP convoy, the Congress said. The party has asked the Election Commission to file a case against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his deputy. Ahead of elections, more than Rs. 6 crore in cash has been seized in Arunachal Pradesh. This time, the Congress workers had flagged the cars, which were parked at the Siang guest house in Pasighat -- around

265 km from state capital Itanagar. One of the cars, from which Rs. 1 crore was recovered, belonged to Dr Dengi Perme, candidate for the Mebo assembly constituency, they said. The other car, which contained Rs. 80 lakh, belongs to state's transport department, but was allegedly being used by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. "It's absolutely wrong. 'Cash for Vote' is rather practiced by Congress party," said Chief Minister Pema Khandu. Admitting that the money was found in a car belonging to a BJP candidate, he said investigation, conducted under the Election Commission will reveal all the details.

The top court upheld a 2018 Kerala High Court order that had asked the retirement fund body to give pension to all retiring employees on the basis of their full salary, rather than capping the figure on which contribution is calculated at a maximum of Rs 15,000 per month

raised the pension amount exponentially. But in 2014, the EPFO again amended the Employees' Pension Scheme to not only increase wage ceiling for coverage to the current cap but also introduce significant changes. To begin with, new employees having salary exceeding Rs 15,000 per month were not eligible to become members of the EPS. Furthermore, while existing employees who were members of the EPS as on September 1, 2014, had an

option to contribute on higher salary, they needed to place a joint request along with their respective employers by a specific deadline, EY said in an alert. Last but not the least, pensionable salary would be calculated as the average of the last five years' monthly salary, and not of 12 months as per earlier norms. This reduced the pension of many employees. The apex court, in October 2016, ruled that the EPFO can't restrict the higher-pension option to

those who exercised it before a "cut-off date". The court also allowed those who hadn't made higher contributions to the EPS on a monthly basis to exercise the option by making lump-sum deposits of the differential amount due (difference between EPS contribution they made while in service and the contribution they would have made had it been pegged to their full salary). Thanks to this ruling, petitioners like Praveen Kohli, a retired general manager with Haryana Tourism Corporation, saw their pension jumping nearly 1,200. But the EPFO had been dragging its feet on the implementation of the order, perhaps deterred by the sheer volume of demands raised. Then, last year, the Kerala High Court set aside the 2014 amendment calling it arbitrary and unsustainable, and reinstated the old system of calculating the pensionable salary as the average of the last one year's monthly salary. The Supreme Court agrees with this verdict.

Monsoon likely to be below normal this year: Skymet

New Delhi: Private weather forecaster Skymet expects below normal monsoon rains from June through September. The agency today said that it expects monsoon to be 93% of the long-term average. Skymet attributed developing El Nino phenomenon for its forecast of below normal monsoon. Skymet believes that the chances of below normal rain are 55%. Monsoon, the lifeblood for India's agri-sector, arrives on the southern tip of Kerala around June 1 and retreat from Rajasthan by September. Farming output makes up just less than 14% of India's economy but the sector employs more than half of the country's 1.3 billion population. A strong El Nino, marked by a warming of the sea surface on the Pacific Ocean, can cause severe drought in many regions like Australia, Southeast Asia and India, while drenching other parts of the world such as the US Midwest and Brazil. "The Pacific Ocean has become strongly warmer than average. The model projections call for 80% chance of El Nino during March-May, dropping to 60% for June to August," said Jatin Singh, managing director of Skymet. "This means, it is going to be a devolving El Nino year, though retaining threshold values all through

the season. Thus, monsoon 2019 is likely to be below normal." The emergence of a strong El Nino triggered back-to-back droughts in 2014 and 2015. Skyment's forecast come a day before the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to announce its first interest rate decision for the fiscal year 2019-20. Most analysts expected it to cut repo rate by 25 basis points amid subdued inflation. But the central bank's inflation outlook could also be upset by the risk of sharply higher food prices if the monsoon season rains disappoint. Annual retail inflation was just 2.57% in February following five months of deflation in food prices, and the RBI has projected a rise to 3.9% by the end of December. But that could change quickly if the monsoon fails or global oil prices surge.

New Delhi: The BJP on Wednesday dropped its sitting MP Kirit Somaiya, whose name was opposed by ally Shiv Sena, as its candidate from Mumbai North East and also announced its nominees for the Lok Sabha election against key opposition leaders like Sonia Gandhi of the Congress and SP's Akhilesh Yadav. On Mumbai North East constituency, Shiv Sena had been bitterly opposed to Somaiya's candidature. And the BJP's decision to replace him with Manoj Kotal underscores its keenness to keep its

Hindutva ally in good humour. Somaiya, an old BJP hand and one of its leading speakers on economic issues in Parliament, had been a trenchant critic of the Sena. "Somaiya has not maintained any ties with the people of his constituency. We see Matoshree (Thackeray's residence) as a temple. But if he makes allegations against it and calls (Thackeray) a mafia don, no one should even try to give him a ticket," Shiv Sena lawmaker Sunil Raut once said. The rivalry between Somaiya and Sena began after 2014

election when the ally criticised the ruling party on a host of issues. In 2016, the BJP leader responded to Thackeray's dare to PM Modi to conduct "surgical strikes" on Swiss banks to

bring back black money. He said Mayawati, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Uddhav Thackeray should clarify if they were worried about poor people or those with "boxes of money". Meanwhile,

Geng Shuang told a media briefing that China is adopting constructive and reasonable stand on the issue to resolve it properly. He was responding to a question about State Department spokesman's assertions that the US will use all "available resources" to blacklist Masood Azhar. The US on Tuesday reportedly said it will "utilise all available

The State Department was responding to China criticising the US, France and the United Kingdom for moving a draft resolution at the UNSC as "not a constructive move" and that it "set a bad example". China, on Monday criticised the US for directly taking the issue of listing Masood Azhar as global terrorists to UN Security Council after it had put a technical hold on the US, UK and French resolution earlier to declare him a global terrorist in the UN''s 1267 Sanctions Committee dealing with counter-terrorism issues.

How Congress manifesto changed in 5 years.? With elections in the biggest democracy in the world barely a week away, the Congress has pronounced its vision for India. The party released its manifesto for the 2019 elections on April 2. Released by the party top brass, the 2019 Congress manifesto makes some big promises. However, what stands out from the 55-pagelong document is that the Congress has finally announced its resurgence as a national party. The key highlight of the manifesto is the Congress's flagship NYAY scheme, which promises Rs 72,000 a year to the poorest of poor families in India. If one were to chart the evolution of the Congress from the 2014 to 2019, the best way to do it would be through analysing the party's manifestoes from the two Lok Sabha elections. While in 2014, the party's manifesto was aimed at coming back into power with the usual sops and promises and a long list of past achievements, the 2019 Congress manifesto definitely indicates a bolder approach. The new manifesto shows introspection on the party's part - learning from the mistakes it made as well as those made by the BJP. The Congress party unveiled its manifesto on Tuesday. Even though manifestos have been reduced to a ritual during elections, with parties investing little in them and most voters ignoring them, they have a special importance in a democratic set up. In theory, the entire election is fought on the basis of competing manifestos which reflect competing visions for governance. Any effort to bring back the election discourse to serious policy issues is most welcome. The Congress claims to have embarked on a participatory and inclusive process to draft the manifesto and this can only bode well for the political system. More substantively, there are two broad strands in the Congress manifesto. The first focuses primarily on the economy and livelihoods. Since the Gujarat elections of 2017, the party sensed that its most potent line of critique against the Narendra Modi government revolves around unemployment and agrarian distress. But the question that emerged was what the Congress would do about it. The manifesto has some — but not all — answers. As a welfare measure, the party has promised Nyuntam Aay Yojna (NYAY): A minimum income of 6000 per month to 20% of India’s poorest citizens. Details remain sketchy, however, and funding mechanisms or the mode of selecting beneficiaries are not clear. The party has also committed to filling government recruitments (a good step, but will it be enough?); and removing all regulations in starting an enterprise (again, a good idea because many permits are unnecessary, but is an entirely regulation-free process possible?). On agriculture, it has promised a kisan (farmer) budget and committed to converting non-payment of farm loans into a civil offence rather than a criminal one. These are incremental steps, but what agricultural requires are far deeper structural changes. The second strand in the manifesto is constructing a more liberal political order, with checks on State power. From dropping the sedition law, reviewing the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), holding police and district administrations accountable for negligence in case of riots and hate crimes, bringing in a law on privacy, and restricting the use of Aadhaar, the party has made a range of promises. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was quick to criticise some of the security-related measures — particularly the promise to review the AFSPA — as steps which would weak- Kapilkumar M. Kriti Sanon on Kartik Aaryan Alia Bhatt's Self-Destructive Quest getting all credit for Luka Illicit Love With Varun Dhawan Chuppi success: It's so unfair For Mumbai : The Kalank  Kriti Sanon said that the tendency to overlook the contribution of the actress in the success of a film must stop.

Mumbai : Kriti Sanon thinks it is unfair that the leading men are more often than not given the entire credit for the success of a film. Her last release, Laxman Utekar's Luka Chuppi, was a hit at the box office but it was Kartik Aaryan who was lauded for bringing the audience to the theatres. When a newspaper asked Kriti about the same, she said, "This business of overlooking the leading

lady has been going on for a while and it's so unfair. I am glad this conversation is finally happening." "It's logical to talk about only the male protagonist when the leading lady doesn't have a lot to do, but when they are both carrying a film on their shoulders, the credit should be equally shared. Everybody deserves a mention," she added. Luka Chuppi revolves around Guddu Shukla

(Kartik Aaryan) and Rashmi Tiwari (Kriti Sanon) who decide to explore a live-in relationship. The romantic comedy garnered over Rs 92.05 crore at the domestic box office by the end of its fifth weekend. Kriti also talked about the gender pay disparity in Bollywood and said that there have been cases in which actresses have received a bigger paycheck than their male counterparts.

trailer is here and will make you forget blinking for two minutes. The Kalank trailer begins with a powerful moment with a confession in Alia Bhatt's voice - she plays Roop, who admits her hasty decision ruined more than just one life: "Meri gusse mein li gayi ek faisle ne... hum sabki zindagi barbaad kardi." Then begins a dangerous and destructive quest for love and lust, which engulfs Alia Bhatt (Roop), Varun Dhawan (Zafar), Aditya Roy Kapur (Dev Chaudhry) and Sonakshi Sinha (Satya). The story of Kalank begins with Roop's wedding to Dev, who is already married to Satya. Looks like Alia Bhatt just walked into a relationship in which there's respect but no love: "Iss

world is very different from Roop's social positioning. As a romance begins to blossom, Roop declares she's married and Zafar's quick response is marriage is not really on his mind.

However, Pooja refrains from talking about it. “Anything Alia does as far as her relationship is concerned it’s her own prerogative. We are no one to decide for her. So what do they mostly talk about? “Everyone has their own crazy schedule and most of us literally live out of the box. New Zealand Name 15-Man World Cup 2019 Squad  New Zealand are currently third in the oneday rankings, behind England and India.

Cardiff : New Zealand opted for experience in a 15man squad named Wednesday for this year's cricket World Cup, with rookie Tom Blundell's inclusion as backup wicketkeeper the only real surprise. The Black Caps hope to shed their tag as valiant losers and claim the title after exiting in the semifinals six times and suffering a heavy defeat to Australia in their only appearance in the final four years ago. New

Zealand are currently third in the one-day rankings, behind England and India. Coach Gary Stead said the Kane Williamson-led side had repeatedly excelled at the top level and he was confident the consistency would shine through at the tournament in England and Wales. "We've got a squad here of 15 players that we think can give us a really, really good chance of going far into the tournament," he said. "If we play close to our potential, then hopefully we can do New Zealand proud." Wellington keeper Blundell was selected after Tim Siefert, the regular backup to first-choice gloveman Tom Latham, broke his finger in a domestic match last month. While Blundell,

who has two Test caps, will likely make his one-day international debut at the tournament, his role will be marginal if Latham stays fit. Mitchell Santner will be the New Zealanders' primary spinner, with Ish Sodhi edging Todd Astle to claim

the second slow bowling position. "(Selecting) the spinners was very tough, and both had signs at times that they should've been the one that was selected... but at the end of the day that's my call to make," Stead said. The pace attack comprises Tim

Southee, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry, while Jimmy Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme add all-round options. Henry Nicholls is set to open the batting with veteran Martin Guptill after displacing Colin Munro at the top of the order, although Munro will make the trip as batting cover. Williamson and Ross Taylor, in his fourth World Cup campaign, complete a battle-hardened batting l i n e u p . Wi l l i a m s o n , Taylor and Guptill have collectively amassed 526 ODI appearances between them. Guptill and Taylor have not confirmed their post-tournament plans but will most likely be looking to exit cricket's biggest stage on a high.

At Wankhede, law of averages BCCI Ethics Officer Sends Notice to DC catches up with Dhoni Advisor Sourav Ganguly on ‘Conflict’ Hyderabad : Mahendra Singh Dhoni at Wankhede Stadium is a special sentiment. Eight years ago, it was on this ground the former India captain won the World Cup. The venue also witnessed Dhoni leading Chennai Super Kings to its third IPL title last year. Dhoni may have cleared the rope several times in the IPL but at Wankhede, his batting average is way lower than his exploits at other grounds. When CSK takes on Mumbai Indians on Wednesday, the veteran will hope to better his record at the special venue. Dhoni’s overall average in the IPL is 41.23. Among the eight venues, Dhoni averages 26.44 at Wankhede. The poorest

average (22.00), however, is at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Dhoni has 238 runs in 16 matches at Wankhede; his highest score being 43 not out. Coming on the back of an unbeaten 75 off 46 balls against Rajasthan Royals, this could be Dhoni’s match. He has the numbers to flaunt against Rohit Sharma's side — 612 runs comprising three fifties at a strike-rate of 136.30.

Kolkata : The BCCI’s Ombudsman, Justice D K Jain, who was recently asked to also serve as ethics officer for the Board, has issued a notice to former India captain Sourav Ganguly after a complaint about his alleged conflict of interest. Ganguly is currently involved in the IPL as an advisor to the Delhi Capitals while continuing to serve as the President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Rajasthan skipper Ajinya Rahane and Steve Smith were dropped and their contributions with the bat helped the hosts win. “It was not easy to get the boundaries in the second innings but if we make that many mistakes (dropped catches), then we will fall on the losing side. Divyang Sangathan demands poll tickets, quota in local bodies

Ahmedabad : Alleging that all political parties are neglecting the interest of persons with disabilities (PWD), Bharatiya Divyang Sangathan (BDS) has demanded that all political parties field at least two persons with disabilities in the parliamentary as well as state elections to bring this segment of the population into the national political mainstream. The Sangathan also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not doing anything for their uplift, excepting giving them a new term ‘divyang’. Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, BDS national president Amit Kumar said that while all political parties took cognisance of even after groups with just one per cent of the total votes of the

country, none were bothered about PWDs accounting for three per cent of the nation’s population as per the 2011 census. Unfortunately, PWDs were not united and hence did not have a voice to grab the attention of the political parties. Stating that the uplift of people with disabilities was not possible without bringing them into the political mainstream, Kumar said if there could be separate reservation for women in local bodies for women empowerment, a

similar law must be passed for persons with disabilities as well. He said it was imperative to empower this most vulnerable section who did not have a voice and were looked down upon by society and contemptuously called langda (lame), bahra(deaf), andha (blind) and goonga(mute), depending on their disability. Kumar also demanded Rs 8,000 per month as pension for persons with disabilities and reservation in jobs, for eg lift operators. He also said a card should be issued for people with disabilities, which should be accepted by authorities for free bus and train travel and subsidised air fare, free medical treatment and financial assistance in setting up their own businesses.
