Government forms multi-agency team to probe Indians in the list

Panama leaks: PM Modi steps in Agency | New Delhi Amid reports of some Indians having unaccounted wealth in tax havens, finance minister Arun Jaitley on Monday said those who did not take advantage of the compliance window last year to declare illegal assets abroad will find “such adventurism extremely costly”. The minister said global initiatives to deal with the menace of unaccounted wealth abroad will be in place by 2017, and then it would become extremely difficult for individuals to hide

assets. “With G20 initiatives, FATCA and bilateral transactions in place with effect from 2017, the world is going to be a far more transparent institution and therefore, this kind of an adventurism will prove to be extremely costly for those who

have indulged in it,” Jaitley said while addressing the annual session of industry body CII. His statement comes on a day when a newspaper, based on leaked documents of Panama law firm Mossack Fonseca, reported that over 500 Indians in-

Arvind Kejriwal, India’s numbers in a span of five and a half years, Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in Delhi on Monday. most defamed man Siddharth Shukla bags the Khatron Ke Somewhere in the wastelands of Ladakh there is a Actors should realise that films are spectral monument. Generations of tourists and locals have been led to believe that it is a Magnetic Hill, where vehicles, even when their engines are switched off, appear to move up a gradient on their own because of the supposed magnetic pull of a distant mountain. But the Magnetic Hill is a hoax. The natural design of the expanse is such that it creates a powerful optical illusion — the seeming uphill is in reality a downhill. This sounds like the story of our leader with an illusory magnetic field and his devout who think they are going up while they are actually going downhill. But I mention the Magnetic Hill only to point out that we don’t have to invoke god and mass delusions to understand that successful myths are all around us, in a whole hierarchy of things. They are surprisingly easy to spread. In the Magnetic Hill hypothesis there is a combination of powerful influences, apart from the optical illusion of the terrain: A higher authority seeded the idea of magnetism (until recently, on the site, there was a government notice board that announced the spurious science of the Magnetic Hill); and people wished to believe in it because magnetism is more interesting than banal gravity, and certainly more interesting than the realisation that they have been tricked by their eyes. The popular middle-class myth that Arvind Kejriwal ‘is a dangerous anarchist’ has been established by similar influences. In 2014, for political reasons, journalistic and scholarly authorities seeded the idea that he was an anarchist; and for political reasons, the middle-class found it an interesting idea. When I used to edit a magazine a seasoned journalist pitched the idea that Kejriwal had serious psychiatric problems and that he must be hospitalised. Sometimes, people who do not read or watch television news end up preserving a lot of clarity. A reason why Kejriwal emerged triumphant after two elections despite losing the support of mainstream journalism. And he is going strong. He is experimenting with transformative ideas in alleviating urban poverty, providing basic healthcare and reducing pollution even as he uses cunning to survive Indian politics. A recent poll projects that his AAP would storm Punjab in the assembly elections next year. As we know, there was a time when Kejriwal was Kanhaiya Kumar; but that was when he appeared to be a non-political activist warring against corruption. But he realised that it is meaningless to scream ‘revolution’ in India. In a democracy the greatest mass movement is democracy itself and a revolution does occur every now and then; it is called elections.

The fight plays a significant role in the film as it changes the entire mood of the film and sets a new tone. The movie, which runs on entertainment mode until the interval, enters into serious mode post-interval,” read a statement.Tipped

In 1893, Mowgli made his first appearance in In The Rukh, a short story in Many Inventions, a collection of Rudyard Kipling’s work. Here, Mowgli is a young man, no longer with his friends in the jungle – he gets a job as a forest ranger, marries a Muslim girl, and the wolves babysit his child. So one of Mowgli’s last adventures was the first to be published. Then, other short stories about Mowgli appeared in magazines and periodicals – and The Jungle Book was serialised in 1894. The Jungle Book is a collection

of stories about Mowgli, the ‘man cub’ raised by wolves – and his romps with his friends: Baloo the bear, Bagheera the panther, Kaa the python, and his nemesis: Shere Khan, the tiger. Within a year came The Second Jungle Book, and Kipling said, “That ends up Mowgli and there is not going to be anymore of him.”Little did Kipling know that his hero would inspire films across the world – from Walt Disney himself to filmmakers in Russia and Japan. Most of these have little to do with Kipling’s stories, but only borrow the plot.

to be a treat for action lovers, the film promises to give audiences value for the buck. “The film’s fight episodes are very well-conceived, smartly written and meticulously executed, thus making ‘Sardaar Gabbar Singh’ a good action film that action-lovers should look

out for,” the statement added. “And if these are not just enough, high-end camera equipment like Phantom Dolly, Hexacopter flying cameras and Gimbal cameras have been used to enhance the experience of action scenes,” the statement further added.

with the actress before she walked the Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2016 ramp as a showstopper for Rohit Bal’s show here, she was asked about how “Ki &Ka” has contributed to her career. She said: “Well, I think a lot.” “A lot of the reviews didn’t back the film, but audiences backed the film and I think that’s most import-

ant. Actors should realise that the films are backed by your fans, the ‘aam janta’, and that’s more important,” she added. Bal showcased the finale show at the fashion week and Kareena like a diva in a heavily embroidered lehenga and choli. Asked how much care she takes for looking good in real life, she said: “I believe that fashion is more in comfort and if you are comfortable, then you will automatically look good. I feel I am always well-dressed.” So is she ready to experiment with her looks in films? “I am open in the sense that when I am doing fashion blogs, commercial films and other things… But for films, you have to stick to the character. You can’t just experiment just for the sake of it.

Last year, Huma took to Twitter to lash out at a publication that had printed information regarding her alleged relationship with actor-producer Sohail Khan. “I have always said that Twitter is my forum to talk to people about what’s happening in my life,” she says. She goes on to address the rumors saying, “What really hurts is that without knowing the truth about my life, they (media) go ahead and put these stories. And I’ll tell you why they do it; they do it because they want to take away all the attention from my hard work. They

India’s Gold Imports Drop 34% in February: Report

Agency | New Delhi India’s gold imports in February fell 34 per cent compared with the same period last year, news agency NewsRise Financial reported on Monday, citing a government official, as high prices and hopes for a cut in import taxes kept buyers away.India, the world’s second-biggest consumer of gold, shipped in 36.9 tonnes of gold in February while overseas purchases of the metal surged 20.5 per cent to 941.1 tonnes, in the 11 months to February, it said. The central government in its Budget for 2016-17 reintroduced a local sales tax on gold jewellery after a gap of four years, on top of record import duty, to curb the local appetite for the precious metal. India’s gold demand in the March quarter is likely to drop by about two-thirds from a year ago to its lowest in seven years, as higher prices and a strike by jewellers curbed sales in the country. Soon after the victory, a pumpedup Samuels removed his shirt and was seen being restrained by some of his teammates in a clear indication that emotions had gotten the better of him.
