Mumbai becomes first district to administer 1 crore Covid vaccine doses Agency News: New Delhi Mumbai became the first district in the country to reach the milestone of 1 crore Covid-19 vaccination mark. According to data uploaded on the CoWIN portal, Mumbai has administered vaccine doses to 1,00,63,497 people. Out of these, 72,75,134 have received the first dose, while 27,88,363 have got both. The portal further showed that the vaccination drive is being carried out at 507 sites in Mumbai district. Out of these, 325 are government centres, while 182 are being operated by private hospitals. In the last 30 days, the highest
number of Covid-19 vaccines were administered on August 27 when 1,77,017 people were inoculated. This was followed by 1,63,775 doses on August 21 and 1,53,881 doses on August 23, according to the CoWIN portal. As a grim situation unfolds in Afghanistan, particularly in Kabul, post the withdrawal of foreign troops, the world stares at a humanitarian crisis. Countries with their citizens stranded in Afghanistan are burning the midnight oil to ensure their safe evacuation. Since August 16, over 800 Indians have been evacuated back under “Operation Devi Shakti”.Indian Armed Forces are engaged in evacuating not just Indians but also foreign nationals. With a sizable Indian population still stuck inside Afghanistan and many Afghan Hindus andSikhs seeking asylum in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the rescue andevacuation operation by calling a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security. The Centre also took into confidence all political parties by calling an all-party meeting on the Afghanistan situation. With the situation unfolding fast in Afghanistan, the Centre is keepinga close eye even as the relief and rescue operation continues in top gear.August 26 was the day when the worst fears of the world came true as a massive terroriststrike at the Kabul airport claimed more than 170 lives, including of US soldiers. Six people have been arrested by the Hathras Police in Uttar Pradesh after over 727 kg cannabis, estimated to be worth more than ₹ 3.50 crore, was seized from their possession, officials said on Friday. The seizure was made on Thursday when the traffickers were held while transporting the cannabis in two cars and a truck, according to Hathras senior police officer

Those held have been identified as Vishnu Saraswat, Bahadur Jatav, Ravi Kumar, Sukhvir Singh Yadav, Danish and Ranjeet Diwakar, the police said, adding that an FIR has been lodged in the case. Covid-19: India reports 42,618 cases, 330 deaths in 24 hours The number of new cases of Covid-19 on Friday saw a drop of 6 per cent from the previous day. There were 42,618 fresh cases in last 24 hours, the health ministry said on Saturday morning. A total of 330 patients succumbed to the infection during this period. The total number of cases reached 3,29,45,907. The daily positivity rate was 2.5 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate was 2.63 per cent. The active caseload of Covid-19 in the country is 4.05 lakh and constitutes 1.23 per cent of the total cases reported so far. As many as 3.21 crore have recovered from the infection

The State Bank of India (SBI) has alerted its customers about non-availability of its internet banking and mobile application late on Saturday due to maintenance work. According to the notice posted by SBI on its Twitter accounts, internet banking, YONO app, UPI and IMPS services will not be available for 180 minutes from 22:35 hours on September 4 to 01:35 hours on September 5. “We request our esteemed customers to bear with us as we strive to provide a better banking experience,” the SBI said in the accompanying tweet posted on Friday. Last month, SBI’s services were down for 150 minutes on August 6 and 7 due to maintenance work. This will be the sixth time in nearly three months that digital banking services of the state-run bank will be hit.

The sharp growth in Q1 GDP is mainly because of the very low base of last year, when the economy was under a national lockdown. On a sequential basis, most parameters of GDP have fallen in Q1 FY22, due to the adverse impact of the second wave of the pandemic on the economy. The comforting factor is that the investment to GDP ratio has remained above 30% as against a low of 24% touched in Q1 FY21. Pick-up in exports as reflected by the GDP breakup, is a positive signal and is in line with pick-up in global economic growth.
