Xi Jinping’s Decade-long Run Reshapes China’s Military, and the Region

Former German Chancellor Faizabad Cantt to be renamed as Ayodhya Cantt, Defence Minister Angela Merkel Wins UNHCR’s Nansen Refugee Award approves the proposal

During Xi Jinping’s decade-long rule, China has built the world’s largest navy, revamped the globe’s biggest standing army, and amassed a nuclear and ballistic arsenal to trouble any foe. With China’s neighbours now rushing to keep pace, Xi’s next five-year term is likely to see a quickening Asia-Pacific arms race. From South Korea developing a blue-water navy to Australia buying nuclear-powered submarines, weapons shopping has surged across the region. According to figures from the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies, Asia-Pacific defence spending passed $1 trillion last year alone. China, the Philippines and Vietnam have roughly doubled spending in the last decade. South Korea, India and Pakistan are not far behind. Even Japan is proposing record defence budgets and inching towards ending its long-standing “no first strike” policy, citing an “increasingly severe” security environment. “All the key players in the Indo-Pacific region are responding to China’s military modernisation.

In a letter to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia complained of “undue interference in the elected government’s work” and said all of the L-G’s “investigations are illegal and unconstitutional”. Sisodia’s letter coincided with the L-G ordering a probe into the alleged irregularities in the power subsidy scheme of the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in the national capital, another flashpoint besides the ongoing liquor policy scam probe by the CBI in which Sisodia has been

named an accused. “Except for issues like land, police, public order and services, the elected government has the right to take decisions,” Sisodia said in the letter written in Hindi. Stating that the L-G has been regularly ordering probes into decisions taken by the elected government in Delhi, Sisodia alleged these inquiries were “illegal and unconstitutional”. Nothing has come out of the probe into the “so-called” bus procurement scam, school scam, liquor scam, but it weakens the morale of officers, Sisodia said, and urged the L-G to work “according to the Constitution”. The adhoc teachers on Monday rejected the state government’s offer to set up a High Powered Committee (HPC) and reaffirmed their demand for immediate regularisation of their service. They also submitted a representation to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio seeking his intervention to resolve the matter. On Tuesday, a 31-member team comprising of ANATG officials and its Core Committee members composed of district leaders had a closed door meeting with the 4-member government team led by Advisor for School Education K T Sukhalu. However, the meeting remained deadlock with both sides not budging from their stand. ANATG president

Ruguotsolie told that during the meeting, the government team once again requested them to accept the proposal to constitute a HPC and give them a year’s time to look into the demand. They also requested ANATG to call off the agitation, he said. However, the agitating adhoc teachers refused the same while suggesting if their demand for immediate service regularisation is not possible, the government should give a written assurance that HPC would complete the process within six months. The Advisor for School Education expressed the inability of the government to do so, after which they returned to their members sitting on agitation outside Civil Secretariat gate, said Ruguotsolie. The government had been maintaining that it was not in a position to regularise services of the adhoc teachers because of the standing order of the Supreme Court and High Court not to regularise ad hoc appointees.

A Dalit man was killed in Udha village of Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district on Friday with family members insisting he was attacked for touching an idol at a Durga puja pandal. And though the police have dismissed the claim that caste was a factor – they said this was merely a “social media rumour” – the FIR filed by Pratapgarh police under section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code also includes section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The incident, which occurred on September 30, appears to have first been tweeted by the Hindi news portal ‘Bolta Hindustan’, early on October 4. It was then retweeted by several others, including Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh. In the video tweeted by Bolta Hindustan, the widow of Jagroop, the man purportedly killed, is heard saying that he went to a nearby house to see the Durga Puja there and was killed there. She names two men, “Munna” and “Sandeep.” The video also shows what appears to be Jagroop’s corpse. In another video accessed by The Wire, a man who identifies himself as Jagroop’s son-in-law, says that as soon as Jagroop touched the feet of the idol, “blows rained on him until he was half dead.” The son-in-law says in the video that Jagroop was brought home by his attackers. He then took Jagroop to Pratapgarh for treatment, but he died at home, the son-in-law adds. In the video, he claims that the family has not received any help and that they are prepared to sit in a fast in demand of justice. It is unclear when this video was shot. A copy of the FIR notes the complaint was lodged on October 2. On October 4, Pratapgarh police released a video in which Additional Superintendent of Police, East Pratapgarh, Vidyasagar Mishra narrates police’s version of events. He identifies the deceased as ‘Ram Jeevan’ and says he went to the house of Pankaj Dubey and Ram Sarobar Mishra to see an idol. “There, two men, Kuldeep and Sandeep, told him to give them a ride on a cycle. When he refused, Kuldeep and Sandeep beat him and eventually dropped him at home,” the ASP says, adding that he eventually died. Mishra says that a team has been formed to arrest the accused and that an FIR has been lodged. He said that the death was not spurred by the deceased touching the idol. “A rumour has been spreading on social media that he was beaten because he touched the Durga idol, and then died. This is entirely false,” - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara says Mishra, in the video.

Congress’ Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday made a big revelation that some senior party leaders wanted him to withdraw from the party presidential poll and had requested Rahul Gandhi to persuade him to do so. However, Rahul Gandhi said that he will not ask Tharoor to withdraw as a contest would benefit the grand old party, he further claimed. “He reminded me that he has been saying so for the past 10 years that there should be a contest for the party chief’s post. He also told me that some persons have asked him to request me to withdraw my candidature. He told me he will not do so. He said I should not withdraw and that I should contest in the election,” the Thiruvananthapuram MP said. Earlier in the day, Tharoor said that he never expected big leaders to support him and does not expect it even now, but at the same time, he needs everyone’s backing. The statement came in the wake

of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K Sudhakaran publicly declaring his support for veteran leader Mallikarjun Kharge for the party chief’s post. Tharoor also said he was not going to betray those who supported him till now in this endeavour of his by backing off from the election. “I was not expecting any support from the big leaders of the party and I am not expecting that now either. In fact, I met party workers at Nagpur, Wardha and then Hyderabad. They are the ones asking me to contest and not back away from it. “I assured them I will not back away. I will not betray those who have supported me till now. Their confidence in me is what gives me the strength to move forward,” he said.

way for rate increases in the coming days and has brought interest rates on housing loans back into the spotlight. Banks are expected to soon revise their interest rates for home loans. Another factor to consider is that the lowest home loan interest rates are typically granted to customers with excellent credit scores, which is above 750-800. Therefore, if your credit score

is low, it would be preferable for you to take steps to improve it before applying for a longterm loan, such as a home loan. Aspiring homebuyers have a great opportunity to fulfill their dream of having their own house through the home loans. However, in order to keep the loan stress under check and pay off the full mortgage on time, homebuyers must make sure they have the necessary buffer funds and a sufficient income. According to BankBazaar, the interest rate that applies to each individual may be different based on one’s age, gender, income, credit score, loan amount, property value, or any other terms and conditions imposed by the lender.

Agency News : Mumbai The fourth season of the muchhyped Bigg Boss Marathi started airing on October 2. 16 contestants walked in and, as is the norm, were locked inside the house in each others’ company for 100 days, performing tasks given to them. The Bigg Boss house is known for ugly fights and spats but the first week generally is a silent affair with contestants getting to know each other. many contestants against each other as Bigg Boss divided the 16 housemates into groups of 4. Then they were asked to name a ‘useless contestant’ from each group. Later, Prasad got into a confrontation with Apurva after she called him arrogant. Apurva and Prasad again got into a fight for failing in the task and Prasad blamed Apurva. From among other groups, Trishul Marathe mentioned Kiran Mane’s name as useless, to which he flared up immediately. Tamannaah Bhatia Dances Her Heart Out, Poses With Young Fan At A Navaratri Celebration

Agency News : Mumbai Tamannaah Bhatia has had two back-to-back projects. While she played a female bouncer in Madhur Bhandarkar’s sliceof-life film Babli Bouncer, she essayed the role of a wedding planner in the Riteish Deshmukh starrer Netflix romantic comedy

Plan A Plan B. As the Navratri season has gripped Bollywood, Tamannaah has also joined the celebrations with some graceful Garba dance moves. In a video she shared, the Bahubali actress can be seen dancing her heart out as the enamored crowd saw her matching intricate dance steps with her fellow dancers. Donning a glistening purple salwar suit paired with a matching dupatta, Tamannaah was in her most energetic form. She matched steps with fellow attendees and even posed for a few pictures. During one of her recent interviews, Tamannaah shared that when she was on

the cusp of making her debut, there was a certain mold for female actresses regarding their depiction on the silver screen. Moreover, there was hardly any scope for experimentation. She told, “I started working when I was a teenager. At that time, I was totally tomboyish. I remember I had to learn certain things to play a heroine on screen. Back then, the cinema had certain ways of how a girl should walk and talk on screen. Today cinema has evolved so much that these norms are broken. All that doesn’t exist anymore, but when I started, it did exist.”

The term ‘congenital’ means present at birth – any defect that is congenital therefore has the clock ticking on it already. Early detection is a game changer. Medical Journal of Indian Pediatrics suggests that 2,00,000 children are born with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) in India every year. One-fifth of these are likely to be serious, requiring surgery within a year. The numbers reflect India’s genetic vulnerability to heart defects. Narayana Multi Speciality Hospital Ahmedabad Dr. Vishal Changela - Pediatric Cardiologist said that “According to a 2018 report, published in the National Library of Medicine, considering a birth prevalence of congenital heart disease as 9/1000, the estimated number of children born with congenital heart disease in India is more than 200,000 per year. In spite of Advanced cardiac care being available in the country only a minority of such children are getting benefited.” Early detection is the key to treating congenital heart disease. “Of the 240,000 children

born with CHD each year in India, about one-fifth would need early intervention to survive the first year of life. A large pool of older infants and children who may have survived despite no intervention add to the burden of CHD,” added Narayana Multi Speciality Hospital Ahmedabad Dr. Vishal Changela - Pediatric Cardiologist With increasing incidences of heart diseases, paying attention to one’s heart health has become the need of the time. While many believe that only adults are prone to severe risks, various newborns, too, are born with heart defects that can manifest themselves in the form of common symptoms.

Its not one particular scam that the show is about - it’s fictional narrative about scams taking place in the education sector. The overall script was very interesting and thrilling. It has drama, action, and entertainment. The concept is what pulled us into the script. For me, it an honor to be working with such fabulous actors. It also the first time Im doing so much action with this amazing project. I very happy about it. Last year when I was asked what was on my Wishlist, I said action is a genre that I want to do and, I think, I manifested this for myself and what a show to manifest as it also my first time with MX Player. Our director Afzal Sir, who has also written the script, was very involved in the show from scratch. He was very clear about what he wanted from the actors. There was a lot of action involved in the show, so we had to train a little to get that right, how to hold guns, chase sequences, run, bullet firing, etc. I learnt horse riding as well. I also wore the uniform for the first time, and hopefully, people will love
