Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Prisons Hemant Lohia was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his house in Jammu’s Udeyawala with his throat slit late on Monday night, said a senior police officer. In a letter to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia complained of “undue interference in the elected government’s work” and said all of the L-G’s “investigations are illegal and unconstitutional”. Sisodia’s letter coincided with the L-G ordering a probe into the alleged irregularities in the power subsidy scheme of the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in the national capital, another flashpoint besides the ongoing liquor policy scam probe by the CBI in which Sisodia has been

The adhoc teachers on Monday rejected the state government’s offer to set up a High Powered Committee (HPC) and reaffirmed their demand for immediate regularisation of their service. They also submitted a representation to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio seeking his intervention to resolve the matter.On Tuesday, a 31-member team comprising of ANATG officials and its Core Committee members composed of district leaders had a closed door meeting with the 4-member government team led by Advisor for School Education K T Sukhalu. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the proposal to change the name of Faizabad Cantt to Ayodhya Cantt, said sources on Tuesday.Earlier on October 2021, Uttar Pradesh government following the Centre’s nod announced the renaming of Faizabad railway junction as Ayodhya Cantt. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had approved the change of name. In November 2018, the UP government changed the name of Faizabad district to Ayodhya. In October of the same year, the Yogi government changed the name of Allahabad
to Prayagraj. Earlier in June 2018, Mughalsarai railway station, one of the busiest junctions of Indian Railways was renamed after Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay. A Dalit man was killed in Udha village of Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district on Friday with family members insisting he was attacked for touching an idol at a Durga puja pandal. And though the police have dismissed the claim that caste was a factor – they said this was merely a “social media rumour” – the FIR filed by Pratapgarh police under section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code also includes section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The incident, which occurred on September 30, appears to have first been tweeted by the Hindi news portal ‘Bolta Hindustan’, early on October 4. It was then retweeted by several others, including Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh. In the video tweeted by Bolta Hindustan, the widow of Jagroop, the man purportedly killed, is heard saying that he went to a nearby house to see the Durga Puja there and was killed there. She names two men, “Munna” and “Sandeep.” The video also shows what appears to be Jagroop’s corpse. In another video accessed by The Wire, a man who identifies himself as Jagroop’s son-in-law, says that as soon as Jagroop touched the feet of the idol, “blows rained on him until he was half dead.” The son-in-law says in the video that Jagroop was brought home by his attackers. He then took Jagroop to Pratapgarh for treatment, but he died at home, the son-in-law adds. In the video, he claims that the family has not received any help and that they are prepared to sit in a fast in demand of justice. It is unclear when this video was shot. A copy of the FIR notes the complaint was lodged on October 2. On October 4, Pratapgarh police released a video in which Additional Superintendent of Police, East Pratapgarh, Vidyasagar Mishra narrates police’s version of events.He identifies the deceased as ‘Ram Jeevan’ and says he went to the house of Pankaj Dubey and Ram Sarobar Mishra to see an idol. “There, two men, Kuldeep and Sandeep, told him to give them a ride on a cycle. When he refused, Kuldeep and Sandeep beat him and eventually dropped him at home,” the ASP says, adding that he eventually died. Mishra says that a team has been formed to arrest the accused and that an FIR has been lodged.He said that the death was not spurred by the deceased touching the idol. “A rumour has been spreading on social media that he was beaten because he touched the Durga idol, and then died. This is entirely false,” - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara says Mishra, in the video.

In a shocking case, the parents and brother of a woman ended their lives after she eloped with a man belonging to another caste in the Handiganala village of Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district. The deceased have been identified as Sriramappa (63), Sarojamma (60) and Manoj (24). The incident came to light on Tuesday. The parents had lodged a missing complaint on Monday with the Sidlaghatta Rural police station. According to police, the woman, Archana, was in love with Narayanaswamy, who belonged to another caste and was suspected to have eloped from her house to marry him. The Patna High Court on Tuesday declared as illegal reservation of seats for Other Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes for election to municipal bodies in Bihar and ordered that polls be held only after treating such berths as those of general category. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S Kumar passed the order, allowing a bunch of petitions challenging the quota system, and ruled that the elections be held only by re-notifying the seats reserved, treating them as general category seats. The order that was passed less than a week ahead of the first phase of polls scheduled on October 10 throws a spanner in the election process. It also left Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and the BJP, a former ally which it dumped less than two months ago, trading charges.

This comes a day after a 50-year-old man playing the role of ‘Hanuman’ died during his performance in ‘Lanka Dahan’ episode of Ramlila in Fatehpur district. The 60-year-old artist, Patiram, was enacting the role of ‘Ravan’ during the episode of ‘Sita Haran’ in Aihar village of Ayodhya when he clutched his chest due to pain. Before anybody could react, he collapsed on stage. The staging of Ramlila was immediately

Agency News : New Delhi The EMIs for loans, including personal loans, home loans, and car loans, are going to increase after the RBI raised the repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.9 per cent on September 30. This is the fourth straight rate hike by the bank regulator. Earlier the RBI raised repo rates by 40 basis points in May, 50 basis points each in June and August. Since May, the RBI has increased the benchmark interest rate by 1.90 per cent. Payments through credit and debit cards accounted for 8% in volume and 14% in value. While UPI remains a dominant payment mode, adoption of credit cards is growing at a healthy pace it remains the preferred mode for high ticket size transactions.
