How not to respond to Greta, Meena, Rihanna There is a reason that truth is so much more dramatic than fiction could ever hope to. This week has offered a ringside view to the theatre of the absurd. To watch our nation, the world largest democracy, be hysterically rattled by a clutch of tweets on the farm protests, has been utterly embarrassing. That we have such little self-confidence and such narrow shoulders that we could not shrug off a woke, possibly even surface-level intervention by Rihanna, the international pop sensation, says way more about us than it does about her or even about what can often be the western world’s orientalist, saviour complex. So, it doesn’t really matter whether Rihanna’s Umbrella cover for India’s farmers was rooted in any real understanding of the new farm law legislation. Or if Greta Thunberg’s “toolkit” for activism was somewhat formulaic and superficial. Or whether Rupi Kaur, the minimalist poet from Canada, did a short quick verse on a complex issue. Or whether Meena Harris, niece of the United States (US) Vice-President Kamala Harris, was clambering on a liberal bandwagon because it was the trendy cause celebre of the time.None of this is the point. In this case, it barely matters whether you support the farm protests or not. Or which side of the divide you are on about the options before the police after the fracas on Republic Day.Governments should be responding to other governments, if at all. And unless Rihanna is now a republic, the stodgy, fuming intervention by the ministry of external affairs was unnecessary. It catapulted the issue into the global headlines. As Hannah Ellis Petersen, South Asia correspondent for The Guardian, told me, “If the government had not responded, Rihanna’s tweet would have been just one line in my piece.”Even more cringeworthy was the coordinated celebrity endorsement from India’s most iconic cricketing and Bollywood stars, as if patriotism and standing with India are now the same as peddling soap or soda. Yes, that is what we reduced Indian pride to, as we saw the silly spectacle of similarly worded tweets lambasting outside interference in internal matters. This came from many of the same folks who freely commented on the George Floyd murder in the US and the Black Lives Matter movement because it was fashionable to do so. The obvious absence of spontaneity in this orchestrated chorus only makes it strike a false note. And this from folks who never take a public position on any contentious issue in India, ever Worst of all, the same people who want “foreigners” to mind their own business are now parsing the US state department statement on the farm laws and latching onto the bits that strengthen the government’s stand. How can we play this out both ways — resist foreign commentary, but selectively hold on to it as well? Since their tweets, posters of Meena Harris, Greta Thunberg and Rihanna have been burnt. Our television channels have lived up to their reputation for dangerous mindlessness by running character assassination campaigns. The police have registered a case, like they don’t have the actual issue of the farm protests in the real world to deal with. And the full force of vile, ugly misogyny has been unleashed against these and other women, in language that is both vile and violent. Some of us live with this every day on Twitter and are almost numbed by this bootcamp version of coarse sexism. But as Meena Harris tweets passionately about not being intimidated — and rightly so — what was just a kerfuffle is becoming a full-blown diplomatic fracas. In any case, if you build barricades of cement, snap internet lines, place iron rods, nails and spikes at the sites where a majority of farmers have - Kapilkumar M. RBI Policy - Quote : Mr. Kumaresh Ramakrishnan, CIO-Fixed Income, PGIM India Mutual Fund Agency News:Mumbai The MPC unanimously decided to retain all policy rates at status quo while also retaining the liquidity stance as “accommodative”. Further liquidity management and normalisation is now likely to be graded and gradual to prevent any market disruption or impair financial stability. CRR which was to be restored back to 4% from the temporary 3% introduced in March 2020, is now to be done in a 2 phased manner by 50 bps each in March 2021 and May 2021. RBI has reiterated the availability and keenness to use all policy tools to meet liquidity gaps if necessary to allay any yield spike fears. Relaxation in HTM limits on SLR securities which was raised to 22% (in March 2020) for banks from 19% earlier will now continue for another year until March 2023. This should help in managing the borrowing program smoothly. Besides steps allowing retain investors to open direct accounts with RBI to buy/invest in Govt bonds, which should also help in improving and creating sticky demand over time. RBI’s clear recognition that yield is a ‘public good’ benefitting everyone, is a positive which is likely to an actively managed curve especially given the expansion in government borrowing program. Inflation forecasts for Q4 -FY21 and for the first half of FY 2022 and Q3 -FY 22 have been revised marginally probably to factor in return of growth recently and also the growth supportive budget, even as inflation prints have softened recently. Markets expectation for an OMO calendar did not come through which is causing some nervousness in the backdrop of an all time high borrowing program for the next financial year.

high jump When pushed about why heptathlon, a seven-event discipline including 60m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1,000m, Tejaswin said that it was all about being stronger and fitter.“Ideally, the first step is to become a strong, and robust athlete to be able to jump high. or I can say to be able to do anything you have to be a good athlete, you can be a good-sprinter, jumper or a thrower,” Tejaswin explained. “So, it goes like 1000m can build endurance which can sustain you in hot conditions, the long jump and hurdles translate well into high jump because the last three steps coming off the hurdle are pretty much the same. And, the shot put is an indicator of raw strength.

On Friday, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Guv Shaktikanta Das said that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 4%.The 27th meeting of the rate-setting MPC with three external members -- Ashima Goyal, Jayanth R Varma and Shashanka Bhide -- began on February 3.This is the first meeting of the panel after the Budget 2021-22 earlier this week projected a nominal GDP growth rate of 14.5 per cent and fiscal deficit of 6.8 per cent for the financial year beginning

April 1, 2021. RBI on Friday decided to leave benchmark interest rate unchanged at 4 per cent but maintained an accommodative stance, implying rate cuts in the future if need arises to support the economy hit by

the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, the reverse repo rate will also continue to earn 3.35 per cent for banks for their deposits kept with RBI.The central bank had slashed the repo rate by 115 basis points since late March

pandemic, soldiered on and was warned by the chair umpire for swearing at 4-4 in the second set. After his serve was broken, he smashed his racquet and threw it into the empty stands. Kyrgios had needed assurances from a tournament supervisor that he would not be fined by the ATP for his behaviour in the last round against Harry Bourchier before agreeing to play on. In other round of 16 matches on Friday, Frenchman Jeremy Chardy upset sixth-seed Taylor Fritz 6-2 6-4 while Briton Dan Evans won the opening set.

2020 to support growth. In line with the Union Budget, the RBI projected a GDP growth rate of 10.5 per cent for the financial year beginning April 1, on the back of recovery in economic activities. With regard to inflation, Das said vegetable prices are expected to remain soft in the near term as the central bank projected retail inflation rate to come down to 5.2 per cent in the current quarter and progressively decline to 4.3 per cent by the third quarter of the next fiscal. He said the growth outlook has improved significantly and the vaccination drive will help the economic rebound.

Budget 2021 is a mixed bag, with Petrol, diesel prices hiked again, too many causes for alarm up by 30 paise per litre Agency News: New Delhi

Agency News: New Delhi First, there are some very good things about the budget. Note, all the figures discussed here have been taken from the website of the finance ministry. Budget 2021 allows for over Rs. 60,030 crore for drinking water (up from Rs. 17,024 crore last year) The allocation for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) has also swelled from Rs. 5,604 crore to Rs.15,629 crore. This is good because this sector is the largest employer and wealth generator in India. The

reduction of import duties on gold (from 12.5% to 7;5%) was long overdue, and it is good that the government finally did this. One factor that helped the government was soaring gold prices. So, the reduction in duty will not reduce the government’s receipts on account of customs duty on gold overmuch. Great timing. It will certainly dampen gold smuggling. The focused approach towards disinvestment is another commendable move. India cannot afford to keep pouring good money over bad.

Petrol and diesel prices witnessed new highs on Friday as state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) once again raised the fuel rates by 30 paise a litre each in the National Capital Region (NCR) and other cities. Diesel prices are currently retailing at Rs.77.13 a litre in NCR. In Mumbai, diesel retailed at Rs.83.99 per litre and petrol at Rs.93.49 a litre. Friday’s rise marked a slight decrease from Thursday’s hike by 35 paise per litre each for petrol and diesel after a week’s gap.Union oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that excise duty levied by the Central government accounts for ₹32.98 per litre of the price of petrol in Delhi and sales tax or Value Added Tax (VAT) of the state government constitutes ₹19.55.International oil prices have improved following the
