A government laboratory today submitted its test report on Maggi noodles in a sealed cover in the Supreme Court which directed that copies of it be given to the Centre and Nestle India. A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Shiva Kirti Singh directed the registry to give the report of the Mysore-based institute to the parties within three days. ”In pursuance of the earlier order, samples were sent to CSIR, Karnataka for testing of the product. The said institute has filed the report in a sealed cover.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday came down heavily on cash-rich BCCI, saying the cricket body was running like a “mutually beneficial society” and “practically corrupting” its members by not seeking any explanation on how crores of rupees allotted to them were being spent. While scrutinising the fund allocation and expenses of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the apex court also pulled it up for not giving funds to neglected states for promotion of cricket and said it has done nothing to encourage the game. have given them nothing. This doesn’t reflect a good future.” “The impression we get from the Lodha Committee is that you are releasing huge amounts to some states and you leave it to the states on the ways to spend. You are practically corrupting the person by not demanding explanation in spending of huge money,” the bench said, adding that “you (BCCI) are running a mutually beneficial society”. During the hearing, the court wanted to know whether any cases of misappropriation and FIR has been lodged by the BCCI. Senior advocate K K Venugopal, appearing for the BCCI, said an FIR

was filed pertaining to the funds allocation to Jammu and Kashmir cricket board and that Assam has not filed the statement of account. The bench also said “Rs 570 crores is distributed every year and next time it will be Rs 1000 crores. There must be a system to check embezzlement, siphoning. You cannot allow the siphoning and misappropriation of funds.” At present, there is complete lack of transparency in fund allocation to the states, it said. “You function like show me the face, I will make the payment,” the bench said, adding that there should be some justice in providing funds.

Mr. Radadiya said that he would meet Hardik again in jail in two days. The leader of Sardar Patel Group, another prominent outfit of the community, Lalji Patel would also remain present on the occasion when efforts to chalk out a formula to end the stir would be made. The BJP MP claimed that the resolution of the issue

would come soon. ‘It would come before April 17,’ he said. Meanwhile, it is understood that the state government has shown positive response to over 20 of the total 27 issues earlier raised by Hardik through Radadiya. The government has however reportedly expressed inability on the point of reservation to the community. It has also expressed willingness to constitute a Savarna Aayog (commission for upper castes) instead of the demand of Patidar Aayog.

Maharashtra CM must focus on governance, not wield slogans

Devendra Fadnavis’s statement at a BJP rally on Saturday that people who refuse to chant “Bharat Mata ki Jai” have no place in India is unbecoming of a chief minister. A day later, in Rohtak, Baba Ramdev claimed he would have decapitated those who found the slogan unacceptable but for the law. The yoga guru’s remark borders on incitement to violence. But in a time when an elected leader who also holds the constitutional office of chief minister makes a statement that violates both the letter and the spirit of the Constitution, and gets away with it, the question could be: Why single out Ramdev? The Indian Constitution does not prescribe the chanting of any slogan or any other rituals as a condition of citizenship. In fact, it doesn’t envisage the Indian state in terms of a motherland — or fatherland, for that matter. It is imagined on the premise of equal rights to its citizens. Fadnavis, later, “clarified” that his government is guided by the Indian Constitution where every citizen has equal rights and would get justice. But recent actions of his government might suggest otherwise. Last month, a state BJP minister — supported by MLAs from all parties, including the Congress and NCP — piloted a resolution in the Maharashtra assembly for the suspension of AIMIM MLA Waris Pathan for refusing to chant “Bharat Mata ki Jai”. Political appropriation has turned the slogan contentious and its polarising impact is also reflected in a fatwa issued by the Darul Uloom Deoband. Individuals like Ramdev and institutions like Deoband are free to debate their ideas of nationalism and its appropriate manifestations as long as the debates do not incite violence or threaten public order. Elected officials, however, should, at the very least, ensure that their views are in consonance with the Constitution. A city like Mumbai attracts global capital and talent because, despite being home to a vicious streak of nativist politics, it is broadly seen to be cosmopolitan and accommodative of religious, ethnic and cultural diversity. Hypernationalism, especially with religious overtones, threatens to disrupt this narrative and hurt the economy. Targeting Fadnavis, the Left party said his stand is in “gross violation” of the Constitutional position he holds and reflected the “view of an RSS activist and not that of a Chief Minister”. “What the Chief Minister has said is that those who do not agree with the Hindutva version of nationalism have no right to stay in the country. “This is the view of an RSS activist and not that of a Chief Minister who has sworn to uphold the Constitution. The politburo demands Fadnavis retracts this statement immediately,” CPI(M) said in a statement.

- Kapilkumar M. Hirpara Editor Bigg Boss 10 promo: No celebs, fine. But no Salman Khan?

Agency | New Delhi We reported in January that COLOR’s controversial reality TV show Bigg Boss will lose its celebs-only tag from this year, the show’s tenth season. The first promo of Bigg Boss 10, which was released recently, confirms our worst fear: Looks like the show’s big-ticket host, Bollywood star Salman Khan, too, will be out of the show. The show’s first promo invited the general public to send their entries for participation in Bigg Boss 10. The 35-second-long video shows a guy in a heated argument

with the umpire during a gulli-cricket match, following which Bigg Boss invites him to be a part of the show. “Apka ye andaz aapko Bigg Boss ke ghar me winner bana sakta hai. Host Salman Khan is missing from the promo, raising fears that he may not be a part of the show this year. However, said. the Bajrangi Bhaijaan star will definitely host Bigg Boss 10. Elaborating on the celeb and non-celeb feature, the report quoted a source as saying, “It’s not just non-celebrities. It is a mix. There will be some known faces and some unknown faces.”

Bollywood is abuzz with epic team ups between big stars over the recent years. A good example is Shah Rukh Khan and Varun Dhawan collaborating in Dilwale. But there could be an even more exciting and epic team up on the cards involving SRK and another big star. Shah Rukh Khan and Ranveer Singh will be coming together for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next production and the word in B-Town is that it will be directed by Shimit Amin. Shimit has earlier directed SRK in 2007 (Chake De! India) and his last film was Rocket Singh: Salesman Of The Year (2009). It will be interesting to see him

ing. His last film Dilwale was a bit of a letdown and the actor is pulling all stops to become the top actor again.Ranveer Singh on the other hand is easily at the peak of his career. After a riveting performance in Bajirao Mastani, he is currently busy with shooting for Befikre in Paris.

‘Sadmaa’ remake with Kareena Kapoor and Ranveer Singh shelved?

Agency | Mumbai The Sadmaa remake with Kareena Kapoor and Ranveer Singh as the lead pair wasn’t meant to be. Kareena admits, “I was approached for the film but I am not do-

ing that film.”Following Kareena’s exit from the film, it now appears that the film might not be remade at all anymore. Says a source, “The makers planned the sequel keeping Kareena in

mind. It’s her character that drives the film so the female protagonist is very important in the film. Sridevi had nailed her part in the original and the team felt Bebo’s the only actress of the current generation who can bring in the depth and drama to the table. So after she informed them that she wasn’t doing the film, the makers decided to put the film on hold for the time being.” Tell Kareena about it and she almost confirms that the film is on the back-burner. “I don’t know if they are making the film anymore now,” admits Bebo.

Arbaaz, who also directed Dabangg 2, said, “Next year we will start working for Dabangg 3. Right now Bhai (Salman Khan) is busy with some of his projects like Sultan and others. didn’t waste any time as he began his practise sessions with side by posting a photo on social media. Of his previous Chennai team mates, only R Ashwin and Faf du Plessis remain while his mates, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja were picked by the other new franchise, Gujarat Lions. Ajinkya Rahane and Steven Smith of Rajasthan Royals too join MS Dhoni for this term of the IPL.

No.13 India, coming into the match with two successive defeats -- against New Zealand (0-1) and Ireland (0-4), came to life in the second quarter early against the fifth ranked Chinese. Rani scored off a swiftly worked counter-attack from the right flank, giving India the lead in the 19th minute. China immediately hit back, and won a penalty corner of their own, but goalkeeper Savita ensured India went into

the break with their lead intact. The third quarter saw resolute defending from India, as China controlled most of the possession. Monika in particular was very good at marshalling the midfield and dropping deep to deny China. With the last play of the quarter though, China scored the equaliser through Qian. The final quarter saw several chances fall for both teams as they tried to take full points. Deepika, took charge and had a couple of half chances that went wide of the post. Mengyu scored the winner for China through a penalty corner in the 55th minute. “We gave a tough game today to a team that are higher ranked than us. ICC chief executive David Richardson is satisfied with the current format of the World T20 but said that he would like to see the inclusion of two more teams in the first and second rounds in future competitions. “I think, the format itself works. Whether we promoted those first round matches well enough, that is a question we need to answer at a later stage and review it,” Richardson told Cricket Radio ahead of the World T20 finals of the men’s and women’s teams. “The format has worked in that all the matches, first round and second round, it is designed to create even contests between the teams and to that extent it

has worked exceptionally well,” he added. “Whether we move to perhaps increasing the size of the tournament by adding one or two teams, or one team to each group in that first round, I think if we can do that, number one, we will provide more opportunities to other teams but, number two, if you do lose two matches, you have still got a chance in a group of five whereas, in a group of four, you

are dead and buried,” quipped the former South African wicketkeeper. “That might be useful and then even maybe increasing, instead of having a Super 10 have a Super 12 maybe which will again increase the number of matches but, I think, it will give more opportunities for the Associate members to participate in the second round of the tournament itself,” he elaborated.

A 31-year-old Dalit, working as a clerk in an Ahmedabad court, committed suicide at his home alleging discrimination and harassment at his workplace. Before taking the extreme step he is said to have written names of five of his colleagues who allegedly harassed him by hurling castiest remarks. According to police, Ketan Koradia, a resident of Behrampura, Danilimbda hanged himself at his home Sunday evening while his par-

ents were away. His father Dalpat Koradia lodged the FIR naming five of Ketan’s colleagues who work at metropolitan court, Gheekanta in Ahmedabad. His father has said in the FIR, lodged at Danilimbda police station, that Ketan was appointed as a clerk in 2013 and was posted in accounts department. He has alleged that since the beginning Ketan was being discriminated due his caste. “To harass him further, Ketan was transferred to court no 7 despite

the fact that there was no official order. After some complaints, he was transferred back to the accounts department.” According to the FIR, last February he was transferred to court no 14.
