An improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly planted by Naxalites was recovered in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Friday, police said. The explosive, weighing 4 kg and packed in a steel container, was unearthed by a team of the police’s District Reserve Guard (DRG) in a forest near Kodoli Phulmeta village under Orchha police station area, an official said. Security personnel discovered the IED planted beneath the ground during a de-mining exercise in the area and averted a major mishap, he said, adding that the explosive was neutralised by a team of the bomb disposal squad (BDS).

The CBI raided Naresh Goyal’s residence and Jet Airways’ Mumbai office over an alleged ₹538-crore fraud case in Canara Bank. The investigation agency held searches across the residences and offices of Naresh Goyal, his wife Anita, and former airline director Gaurang Ananda Shetty. The CBI has accused Jet Airways and its founders of siphoning funds. According to the agency, between April 1, 2011, and June 30, 2019, the airline was found to have spent ₹ 1,152.62 crore on professional and consultancy expenses. The Gujarat High Court has dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the Shree Chamunda Mataji Dungar Trust objecting to the construction of a ropeway on Chotila hill. The trust had objected to the contract awarded to Mars Entertainment Pvt Ltd, alleging that the government had shown favouritism towards the company. However, the court ruled that since the temple trust had expressed interest in obtaining the contract, its plea cannot be justified as PIL. The trust and Usha Breco Ltd had previously challenged the government’s decision in 2011, which led to the project
being put on hold. However, the government issued a notification on April 5, 2021, awarding the contract to Mars Entertainment once again. The trust’s lawyers also requested an extension of the stay on the construction, but the court rejected the request. A division bench of the Gujarat High Court on Thursday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) by a Chotila temple trust at Surendranagar that had objected to the opacity around the construction of a ropeway leading to the temple and had challenged the award of the ropeway contract to one Mars Entertainment Private Limited (MEPL) by the state in July 2022.

As many as 27 ministers in pollbound Karnataka own average assets worth Rs 34.6 crore, followed by Andhra Pradesh with average assets worth Rs 27.9 crore and Maharashtra with average assets worth Rs 22.4 crore.
