The order is limited to vaccines that people get from private sources, not the Centre’s free shots. The court said the question was whether for private vaccinations, people were entitled to choose between “early protection or better protection”.“It is, however, made clear that I have not considered the question whether a person is entitled to make a choice between early protection

The Supreme Court has refuses to hear a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by residents of Sonipat in Haryana against the blocking of Singhu border by farmers protesting farm laws. The apex court has asked the petitioners to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court, saying the HC is competent to handle the matter. Farmers protesting against the three controversial farm laws have been camping at different points on Delhi borders since last November. Residents

of around 20 villages had held a ‘mahapanchayat’ in Sonipat demanding that the protesting farmers clear one side of the road to allow traffic movement. Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, have been protesting against the farm laws, demanding that they be repealed completely. They have called the laws ‘anti-farmer’. The matter was taken up by the Opposition in the recently concluded monsoon session of the Parliament, where they had demanded discussion on the laws as well as other important issues. Both Houses of the Parliament had witnessed major disruptions on account of heavy protesting and sloganeering by the Opposition as the leaders pressed for their demands.

SUNVILLA SAMACHAR After Currency Demonetisation Comes Asset Monetisation

The national government’s Rs 6-trillion ($81-billion) asset monetisation plan may prove to bea big gamble if it goes in the tricky hands of global fund managers. The immediate reasonbehind the proposed large-scale asset monetisation is known. The government does not have funds to bear the massive cost of the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP). Therefore, it wants to monetise a chain of national assets to partly cover the NIP cost. The pandemichas left a big scar on India’s economy. The demand continues to be down. So is the supply.Assuming that the pandemic impact will die down in a year or two, business and industrymay take even a longer period to return to their old rhythm. Did the government speak to potential local investor groups to measure their mood and desire to participate in such alarge-scale national asset monetisation programme? If so, the country’s tax payers, whofunded the creation of such wealth over the years under various central ministries, have aright to know. Instead, the government names some of the big global asset managers suchas Blackstone, BlackRock and Macquarie for showing their interest in participating in the monetisation process. Not all are known to have handled their international clients asdesired and passed the test with aplomb. It may be worth noting the accusation by a United Nations body against the BlackstoneGroup, one of the world’s largest corporate residential landlords, of exploiting tenants,“wreaking havoc” in communities and helping to fuel a global housing crisis. Recently, a UN Working Group singled out Blackstone’s business practices – which they claim includemassively inflating rents and imposing an array of heavy fees and charges for ordinaryrepairs – as having “devastating consequences” for many tenants in countries around the world. In a series of letters to Blackstone and government officials in Czech Republic,Denmark, Ireland, Spain, Sweden and the US, the working group accused private equity andasset management firms like Blackstone and its subsidiaries of undertaking “aggressiveevictions” to protect its rental income streams, shrinking the pool of affordable housing insome areas, and effectively pushing low and middle-income tenants from their homes.Blackstone, however, disputed these claims. Blackstone has, in recent years, acquiredhundreds of thousands of homes in the US, Europe, Asia and Latin America, often throughsubsidiaries, making it one of the largest and most powerful global players in the housinginvestment sector. In the Netherlands, the US real estate investor, Blackstone, was accusedof keeping hundreds of Amsterdam apartments vacant allegedly to create a housingshortage to jack up rates.Earlier this year, BlackRock was accused of inconsistency for supporting a shareholderprotest against Procter & Gamble’s sourcing of palm oil from an Indonesian company inwhich BlackRock itself holds a significant stake. The asset management group, which hasmade ambitious commitments to environmental, social and governance standards, joined aninvestor rebellion at P&G over the entity’s wood pulp and palm oil supply chain, which extends into Indonesia. Reportedly, P&G has since asked its Singapore-based supplier Wilmar International to investigate Astra Agro Lestari, a palm oil subsidiary of Indonesianconglomerate Astra International that activists have accused of seizing land from localfarmers, among other poor environmental standards. Rights groups and sustainableinvestment advocates have now turned their attention to BlackRock, which is a significantshareholder in Astra International. According to Bloomberg data, the US fund group is Astra International’s thirdlargest investor, with a holding worth almost $350m. It also has a smalldirect holding in Astra Agro Lestari. BlackRock Inc. is among the world’s biggest investmentmanagement companies with nearly $8.7 trillion in assets under management as ofDecember 31, last year.Last year, Macquarie Group Ltd. and Commonwealth Bank of Australia faced scrutiny forpossible money laundering lapses after overseas banks reported up to US$167 million ofpotential dirty money transactions flowing through the two Australian banks. Thedevelopment was first reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, citing data released by theInternational Consortium of Investigative Journalism (ICIJ). The ICIJ released leakeddocuments that showed that Commonwealth Bank of Australia was flagged by multipleglobal - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara banks over suspicious.

Napoleon Bonaparte’s Hat With DNA Evidence Previews In Hong Kong

Agency News: New Delhi A newly discovered hat with DNA evidence proving it belonged to the legendary European statesman and general Napoleon Bonaparte was previewed by auction house Bonhams in Hong Kong on Monday Described by Bonhams as the “first hat to bear the Emperor’s DNA”, it is on display in Hong Kong before it moves to Paris and then London, where it will be auctioned on October 27. The hat, one of the iconic bicornes often seen in depictions of Napoleon on the battlefield, had

been bought by its present owner at a small German auction house that did not know at the time it had belonged to the emperor. “It was purely a chance encounter,” said Simon Cottle, managing director for Bonhams Europe. The buyer became intrigued when he realised it had inscriptions and other characteristics suggesting it could have belonged to Napoleon, Cottle said, adding that an initial investigation suggested it matched the dimensions and age of Napoleon’s bicornes. The hat was then tested extensively using various methods, including electronic microscopy.

For someone like me – the struggle is continuous, every day counts, every training session counts. I remember being demoralised, distraught. I was just on the path to making a turnaround – emotionally, mentally, I was there to make it happen… I took some days to get over the fact that after taking all the precautions, it happened to me. But I told myself, I will work doubly hard to not let this throw me off the rails. Clean Eating & resting my mind & body was at its peak during my recovery. I thank Akshay Arora for his brilliance in making super healthy & yet enjoyable food that made me bounce back. I restarted virtual training sessions with my trainer Drew Neal immediately after I tested negative & that boosted my morale. The slow and steady road to recovery continued for a few months.
