The National Commission for Women has summoned Congress leader Udit Raj over his “sycophancy” remark against President Droupadi Murmu. In a notice issued on Thursday, the commission asked him to appear before it on October 10 and explain his “extremely condemnable and shameful” comments. At a function recently, President Murmu noted Gujarat manufactures 76 per cent of salt produced in the country. “It can be said that all countrymen eat Gujarat’s salt,” she had said. The western state produces nearly 80 per cent of the salt consumed in India. Referring to Droupadi Murmu’s remark, Udit Raj posted a strongly-worded tweet on Wednesday, targeting her. “No country should get a president like Droupadi Murmu. This is height of sycophancy. Semi-High Speed Train Delhi Govt Launches Anti-dust Campaign Damaged After Hitting to Combat Dust Pollution at Construction Buffalo Herd In Gujarat Agency News : Mumbai

Agency News : Switzerland Four lakh people have lost their lives because of adverse reactions from medicines in India, and late last year, three children in Delhi died after consuming cough syrup prescribed by Mohalla clinics. Now alarming reports about an India-made cough syrup causing the deaths of 66 children have emerged from the African country of Gambia, leading to a probe by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The healthcare body specified that the four cough and cold syrups were manufactured by Delhi-based Maiden Pharmaceuticals and urged other countries to remove them from shelves. The four cough syrups reportedly caused a spike in kidney injuries among children under the age of five in July this year, and lab tests revealed an unacceptably high concentration of diethyl-

ene glycol in them. An alert has been sent out for governments to detect the distribution of these cough syrups in chemist shops and block their sale. As per media reports, the Indian government has also stepped in alongside WHO to investigate the company Maiden Pharmaceuticals, which makes the cold and cough syrups that allegedly led to the deaths. They are coordinating with Haryana’s regulatory authority for a detailed investigation, since the contaminated medicines were manufactured in Sonepat. So far, Maiden Pharma hasn’t responded to queries by media agencies, and its website remains inaccessible. But four syrups, namely Macold Total, KOF-Total, Maidelin and Delormaid are sold by the pharmaceutical firm. Another similar incident of medicine contamination was reported in Punjab last month, where a sedative was thought to have killed five patients in the state.

Within eight minutes, the train was on the move again and reached its destination, Gandhinagar, on time. President Wickremesinghe Plans to Visit New Delhi to Discuss Sri Lanka’s Economic Crisis Agency News : Colombo

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced in Parliament on Thursday that he hopes to visit New Delhi to discuss the island nation’s worst economic crisis. Briefing the House on his recent visits to Japan, Singapore, and the Philippines, the President said: We are continuing our talks with India. During my brief meeting with Prime Minister Modi in Japan, I conveyed my wish to visit New Delhi to brief them on our situation.” The President, who took charge after then president Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled Colombo in the face of the country’s worst economic crisis since 1948, said: “Modi has always extended his support to us. I have always appreciated India’s assistance in our crisis. India will continue to extend their support in our rebuilding effort. India since January this year has extended nearly USD 4 billion worth of assistance to Sri Lanka after the country in April this year announced itself bankrupt and expressed its inability to honour debts. The island nation has been scrambling for dollars, leading to a shortage of food, medicines as well as essential items. India’s credit lines

to provide essential food and fuel proved a lifeline to Sri Lanka in the early stage of the crisis. India stands as a key player in Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring process, a prerequisite to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) facility bailout. Having agreed to a staff-level agreement for a USD 2.9 billion facility over four years, the IMF has asked Sri Lanka to start debt restructuring with its creditors. India with 12 per cent is in the third position in the list of Sri Lanka’s bilateral creditors behind China and Japan with 52 and 19 per cent. The President also said that Sri Lanka hoped to reach a common agreement with creditor nations including Japan, China, and India, adding that Japan was ready to assist the bankrupt nation in the reconciliation process.

SUNVILLA SAMACHAR

2 3 SP Councillors Write to Akhilesh Shinde, Uddhav Thackeray Lock Horns Editorial to Claim Balasaheb, Hindutva & Sena SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Yadav, Seek to Donate Kidney to Legacy. But Will It be Advantage BJP? What Triggered the RSS General Secretary’s Ailing Mulayam Singh Yadav Tirade Against the Modi Government?

Not Sitaram Yetchury, or Rahul Gandhi, or Arun Kumar, or Paul Krugman, but the General Secretary of the RSS, Dattatreya Hosabale. It remains to be seen whether or not action will be initiated against the RSS (surely, while they may disown anybody else, they cannot disown their General Secretary?) for thus vilifying the image of Bharat, and bringing the duly elected government into disrepute. The question remains: Why did he say what he did? For one thing, the history of the RSS tells us that the Oracle frowns upon such ones who take it into their heads to think they have outgrown the mother-ship, and can fire on their own, in cahoots with one or two corporates whose chief purpose is to loot, not to enhance Sangh ideology. Indeed, there have been times when the RSS has bolstered leaders other than those belonging to the Sangh, such as, for example, Jayprakash Narayan in 1975, and then Indira Gandhi again in 1980 in the wake of the troubles in the Punjab. It was thought she who had brought about Bangladesh alone could sort out this other problem as well. More helpfully, perhaps, in endorsing some parts of a critique that has in recent years come from the opposition, most of all, from the intransigent Rahul Gandhi, Hosabale’s averments could be read as cautionary missives at a time when the astute Sangh knows the situation to be far from conducive to its political fortunes in the coming days. It is thus nudging its selfabsorbed satrap to make course corrections. The larger lesson to take from the RSS’s acknowledgment of economic woes is the good old one: in the end, it is the economy, stupid. Embedded in that acknowledgment is the fear that, however fiercely and persistently fake issues relating to identity concerns may be propagated, such politics does have a limited shelf life. Time comes when the real distresses suffered by men, women, and children of all social and religious communities prompt them to come together and say “enough; fool us no more.” Political opposition to the powers-that-be can thus take cue from what the RSS has felt compelled to say, and strengthen its conviction in foregrounding people’s material concerns with greater vigour, home-work, and mass dissemination. This context lends piquant force to the Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra now underway. It was sensible for many non-Congress sections of the political opposition to disregard apprehensions that normally attend on regional concerns, and to turn this Yatra into the united mass movement the republic requires. Such a united movement could show up the disingenuous hollowness of what is claimed to have been achieved through the life of the Modi regime, and to re-establish the politics of welfare and reasoned and lasting people-oriented policy initiatives whose consequences can be both seen and accounted for. In making no allusion to inter-community matters that have been so unprecedentedly fraught in the Modi-era, the Oracle may have left a window open for a way to a final and familiar rescue for the Hindutva forces. Ironically, such an eventuality can best be countered by the material observations now publicly made by the RSS General - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara Secretary himself.

Senior Congress leaders in Kerala on Wednesday said they were not against Shashi Tharoor, who has made an aggressive bid to the party’s top post, but they were of the view that veteran leader Mallikarjun Kharge was better suited for the position. Senior party leaders and MPs, K Sudhakaran and K Muraleedharan also said they were only expressing their personal views on whom they are supporting and everyone in the party was free to decide whom they want to vote for. They were responding to statements made by Thiruvananthapuram MP Tharoor in an where he said the party leaders in Kerala appeared to be against him in connection with the Congress presidential polls. participation in the Congress’s mega ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in Karnataka today. He also said the yatra, which is currently passing through the poll-bound Karnataka, will have no impact in the state. “Naturally all party leaders will work for their own party, she (Sonia Gandhi) has walked for half-a-kilometre and gone, it’s okay”, Mr Bommai told reporters here when asked about the “impact” of the yatra. ”As far as we are concerned, we

Sudhakaran also said he was not aware that party leaders in Kerala were opposed to Tharoor, as claimed by the Thiruvananthapuram MP. Muraleedharan, speaking to media, said there was no official or rebel candidate and all PCC delegates are free to vote for whomever they choose as it is a secret ballot. He also said that Sudhakaran only expressed his personal view. Muraleedharan further said that people like him in the party want someone who is closely connected to the general public and knows their minds and that Kharge was such an individual “who has risen through the party ranks from the ground level by sheer hard work”.

Hyderabad Becomes ‘Pink City’ As Telangana CM KCR Goes National, Makes TRS Bharat Rashtra Samithi

Agency News : Hyderabad Telangana’s capital Hyderabad turned pink on Dussehra as chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) forayed into national politics by renaming his party, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), to Bharat Rashtra Samithi on Wednesday. The road from the CM’s camp office at Begumpet to Telangana Bhavan at Banjara Hills was dotted with pink flexes and banners that hailed KCR as ‘Desh ka Netha’. Party workers

burst crackers while dancing to the TRS party’s theme song. The crowd kept swelling in numbers in front of Telangana Bhavan, the venue for the party’s general body meeting, as leaders arrived with their followers. A machine kept popping pink confetti in the air at regular intervals, covering the streets in pink. Traffic slowed down in front of the party office as policemen jostled to tackle the crowd. At 1.19 pm on Dussehra, the chief minister, whose penchant for astrology and vastu is well-known, renamed his party with a resolution. 283 members unanimously approved the resolution and changes were made in the party’s constitution accordingly. They submitted a letter to the Election Commission of India regarding the name change, along with the new party constitution.

Agency News : Mumbai

Ask a Shiv Sainik and they will tell you — on Dussehra, all roads lead to Shivaji Park, a venue synonymous with Sena rallies since 1966. Cut to 2022 and things have changed rapidly. For starters, the Shiv Sena suffered a vertical split in June, with Eknath Shinde allying with the BJP and becoming chief minister, claiming his faction is the ‘real’ Shiv Sena. The tussle between the Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray camps meant Mumbai witnessed parallel Dussehra rallies on Wednesday, a first in itself. Following a mini

court battle, Uddhav Thackeray took to Dadar’s Shivaji Park, while CM Shinde took centre stage, around 8 kilometres away, at BKC’s MMRDA grounds. So, where did Thackeray go wrong? Vinod Kumar Bhojwani, a Shiv Sena worker from Aurangabad’s Sillod for the past 25 years, said: “Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray was clear that we will not go with the Congress. [By allying with the Congress] It’s that mistake that the Sena president did.” On expected lines, Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray took potshots at each other in light of the former’s rebellion. “Those

whom we gave everything have betrayed us and those who were not given anything are all together. This Sena is not of one or two but of all of you. As long as you are with me, I will be the leader of the party,” Thackeray said. Shinde retorted: “Maharashtra voters elected you [Uddhav] and BJP in assembly elections, but you betrayed people by allying with Congress and NCP. The true legacy of Balasaheb is the legacy of ideology. Our ideology will not change. Betrayal has happened but it has happened in 2019.” The chief minister also emphasised that his rebellion was a ‘revolution’.

Agency News : Lahore Pakistan captain Babar Azam has come under fire after the team’s failures in the Asia Cup 2022 and the recently-concluded T20I series against England and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja highlighted how differently India players are measured compared their neighbouring counterparts. Skipper Babar and wicketkeeperbatsman Mohammad Rizwan have been criticised for their poor strikerates in the T20 format. Similar to Virat Kohli, who scored a ton in the Asia Cup against Afghanistan,

Babar Azam too scored a century. But, Ramiz Raja pointed out the difference in the mood of the two fan groups. While India celebrated Kohli’s 71st international ton, Babar was questioned over his poor strikerate, when he scored 110 against England. “Previously we used to falter at the very first hurdle. Yes we reached the final and yes we did not play well. But it’s okay to have a bad day. But there were others teams as well in the Asia Cup. I mean then India should then have been severely criticised for not reaching the final. But that is not what their fans and media do. “I’ll tell you, when Virat Kohli scored a century against Afghanistan, they forgot their entire Asia Cup. Will we ever do that? What we say is that Babar Azam scored a ton, but his strike rate was 135 while David Warner’s was 147.3. So this is useless,” Ramiz said

Agency News : Thailand The Women’s Asia Cup saw a massive upset after Thailand defeated Pakistan by four wickets at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) on Thursday. This is Pakistan’s first defeat in the tournament. As the Asian minnows chased down Pakistan’s modest score of 117, the Thai players erupted in joy as the final run was scored. Natthakan Chantham struck a 51-ball 61. She struck five fours and two sixes during her knock as Thailand Women won their first match in the seventeam tournament being played in Bangladesh. Chasing a modest target of 117-run target, Pakistan bowlers kept Thailand batters in check. But

with Nattakan Chantham in fine form, Thailand chased down the target on the penultimate ball of the match. Requiring 16 runs from two overs, the 19th over went for only six runs bowled by Nida Dar and she picked the prized scalp of Chantham. With 10 runs required in the last over, Rosenan Kanoh struck Diana for a four on the second ball to help her side achieved the target with four wickets in hand. Nida and Tuba Hasan bagged two wickets apiece, while Nashra Sandhu and Kainat Imtiaz took a wicket each. Earlier, after opting to bat first, Sidra Amin continued her fine form in the tournament, she top-scored with a 64-ball 56, smashing six boundaries. Pakistan scored 116 for five in their 20 overs at a slow and low track. This was Pakistan’s first loss in the tournament. In three outings in the tournament, Pakistan have won the last two matches played against Malaysia and defending champions Bangladesh. The team will now take on arch-rivals India on Friday at the SICS.

EPF Interest Not Visible In Rupee depreciates 4 paise to Your Statement? Finance 81.66 against the US dollar Ministry Explains Why in early trade Agency News : New Delhi

The finance ministry has said that the interest amount is being credited into the accounts of employees’ provident fund (EPF) subscribers, and in case it is not visible in the statements, it is because the EPFO software is being upgraded. The ministry said that there is no loss of interest amount for any subscriber. “There is no loss of interest for any subscriber. The interest is being credited in the accounts of all EPF subscribers. However, that is not visible in the statements in view of a software upgrade being implemented by EPFO to account for change in the tax incidence,” the finance ministry said in a quote tweet. The tweet was in response to a tweet by Mohandas Pai, chairman of Aarin Capital and ex-Infosys director. “Dear EPFO, where is my interest? @PMOIndia @narendramodi Sir need reforms! Why should citizens suffer because of bureaucratic inefficiency? Pl help,” Pai tweeted tagging a Moneycontrol article on

the EPFO interest issue. In another tweet, Pai said, “How is payment done to a subscriber retiring in May if interest is not credited for March end? Paid later?” After over two years of remaining unchanged, the government last week revised upwards the interest rates on small savings schemes, including Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) and time deposits, up to 30 basis points for October-December 2022. The move comes even as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been raising the repo rate for the past few months, thus pushing up interest rates on various deposits and loans in the country.

Nepal cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, accused of raping a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup: Missing interest in EPF acminor, arrested Maharashtra govt approved ₹ 24.5

Agency News : Kathmandu Nepal’s former cricket captain Sandeep Lamichhane was arrested from Tribhuwan International Airport in the capital city on October 6, Thursday. Lamichhane was accused of raping a minor. The cricketer shared a post on Facebook earlier on

Thursday saying, “As per my sincere commitment to submit myself to the authority of Nepal, I am landing at 10:00 am from Qatar Airways in the Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu.” The 25-yearold sportsperson has refuted all allegations and announced that he will seek legal support against wrongful prosecution. “I am sure I will get justice and will return to the cricket ground soon to make the name and fame of my beloved country and I pray for a speedy trial. I will fully cooperate in all stages of the investigation and will fight a legal battle to prove my innocence.

lakh for security arrangements Agency News : Mumbai Maharashtra government approved Rs 24.5 lakh for security arrangements for matches of the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup to be held at DY Patil Stadium in Nerul this year. Navi Mumbai police had sent a proposal to the state school education and sports department regarding the expenses on security arrangements to be made during the match which includes putting barricases, metal detecting

doors, hand-held metal detectors and etc. A total of 10 matches including the final will be played at the Navi Mumbai stadium and thousands of football lovers from across Mumbai and surrounding regions are expected to come to watch the matches.

People contribute a portion of their monthly paycheque with the hope that the money will earn interest, to be spent for comfortable life postretirement and to fund that big family wedding. Which is why it’s natural to panic when the interest doesn’t show up on the PF savings account online. After several EPFO members raised an alarm about interest on their investment missing, the Indian

Finance Ministry has clarified that it was just a glitched ironically caused by a software upgrade. The interest approved for EPF savings in the FY21 budget was 8.5 per cent, but that was slashed to 8.1 per cent earlier this year. When people saw that the amount wasn’t reflected on their accounts, they wondered where their interest had disappeared. That’s when former Infosys director Mohandas Pai tagged the Prime Minister in his tweet calling out bureaucratic inefficiency.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures surged 0.13 per cent to USD 93.49 per barrel.
