Neutralising antibody responses against the SARS-COV-2 virus and its variants of concern (VoC) are higher among Covishield recipients than those who took the indigenously made Covaxin, according to a multi-centre study. The yet-to-be peer-reviewed study, posted on the preprint server MedRxiv on Friday, also found that when compared to prevaccination baseline, both vaccines elicited statistically significant antibody levels in both seronegative individuals and seropositive or those who had recovered from Covid-19 infection. Between June 2021 and January 2022, the researchers enrolled 691 participants in the 18-45 age group across four sites in urban and rural Bengaluru and Pune. Participants received either

two doses of Covaxin at 28 days apart or two doses of Covishield at three months apart. The Omicron wave in early 2022 overlapped with the second dose of vaccine in two sites and with both doses in one site. Participants were sampled at six timepoints for antibody analyses and at four timepoints for cellular analyses. When compared to prevaccination baseline, both vaccines elicited statistically significant antibody levels in both seronegative and seropositive individuals, the researchers found.

Due to the accident, Nidhi fell aside and ran away. However, now a big shocking thing about Nidhi’s drug connection has come out regarding this incident. In a statement, Sakshi Nidhi revealed that Anjali was drunk at the time of the accident. While shocking revelations are coming out everyday in this incident, another shocking revelation has come out regarding Anjali’s friend Nidhi. It is being said that in the year 2022, Anjali’s friend Nidhi was arrested in a drug smuggling case. If the police are to be believed, the Sultanpuri death case witness Nidhi was earlier arrested in a drug smuggling case and is currently out on bail.

According to the police, Anjali’s

accident witness Nidhi was arrested in Agra Cantt in 2020 in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (1985). Nidhi was accused of bringing ganja from Telangana and was stopped at Agra station during which he was also arrested. Not only Nidhi was involved in the drug smuggling case of 2020, but two other boys were also involved.

As the new calendar year gets under way, commentators have switched their attention from the economic growth likely in the current fiscal year (the broad consensus being sub-7 per cent) to the next one. Realistic projections are important for anchoring the Budget, due to be presented in less than four weeks. This is particularly so because past forecasts, especially by government spokespersons, have been over the top — starting with the promise of double-digit growth made early and repeatedly in the Narendra Modi government’s first term. Even in the first year of the second term, 2019-20, the then chief economic advisor forecast 7 per cent growth; the year ended with 4 per cent. Then there is this business of forecasting when the Indian economy will hit the $5-trillion mark — for which the target year has shifted from 2022-23 to 2024-25, and now to 2026-27. Even accounting for the two years of Covid-caused setback, such shifting of goalposts should raise questions about the seriousness of the forecasting. Still, the latest target date has been endorsed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which in October put out a figure of $4.95 trillion for 2026-27, from $3.47 trillion for this fiscal year. This should not be taken to mean 42 per cent growth in the intervening four years because the numbers are in current dollars, including inflation. US inflation in 2022 was 7 per cent, despite which the rupee depreciated 11 per cent against the US currency. Thus, while real economic growth this year may be sub-7 per cent, nominal growth in rupees may be 14-15 per cent, while nominal dollar growth estimated by the IMF in October was 9 per cent. If one is to go for dollar benchmarks, better to target the per capita income level that would move India from the lower-middle to the uppermiddle income category (about $4,000).

The AAP staged a protest outside the Lt Governor’s house here on Saturday over 10 aldermen nominated by him to the MCD House being administered oath before the elected representatives, alleging that he is “destroying” the Constitution. The ruling party claimed this was part of an “underhanded ploy” to get the aldermen to vote in the mayor and deputy mayor elections. Lt Governor V K Saxena on Tuesday nominated the 10 aldermen to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), days before the January 6 mayoral elections. The AAP had alleged that all the nominated members were BJP workers and the civic body sent their names directly to Saxena without keeping the city government in the loop. On Saturday, AAP leaders and workers gathered outside Raj Niwas in Civil Lines carrying banners and raised

slogans against Saxena. Senior AAP leader Atishi, who was a part of the protest, alleged the LG is “destroying” the Constitution and going against the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC) Act. “Why were the 10 aldermen nominated bypassing the Delhi government? Why wasn’t the seniormost person nominated as the presiding officer? Why were they trying to give voting rights to the aldermen? The LG needs to answer these questions as he is destroying the Constitution,” she told.

Almost three months after he found himself in the middle of a controversy over a viral clip about an alleged extortion plan, Punjab Minister for Food Processing and Horticulture Fauja Singh Sarari has resigned. Sarari tendered his resignation to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The portfolio is now likely to go to either Patiala (Rural) MLA Dr Balbir Singh or Jagraon MLA Saravjit Kaur Manuke. The clip had surfaced in September last year in which the minister was purportedly heard discussing an extortion plan. The audio was allegedly leaked by his close aideturned-foe Tarsem Lal Kapoor who was reportedly upset with the minister for not defending his close relative in a police case. Sarari had been served a showcause notice by the Aam Aadmi Party days after the audio clip had surfaced. He had maintained that the clips were doctored and

that he was being “framed”. In the clip, Fauja Singh Sarari is allegedly heard discussing a plan to trap contractors hired for transportation of food grains to allegedly extort money from them. The voices on the tape can be heard saying that a DRO copy should be sought from the contractors after their trucks are half-loaded. The issue had snowballed into a major controversy with both the Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal targeting the Bhagwant Mann government over the issue. It had caused embarrassment for the AAP as it came closer to the Gujarat elections. Responding to Sarari’s resignation.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra resumed its journey in Haryana on Saturday morning, with scores of people joining the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi-led foot march as it entered Karnal district from adjoining Panipat.

Olympic medallist boxer Vijender Singh and senior Congress leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Randeep Singh Surjewala were among those who joined the yatra which began from Kohand village in Gharaunda here. According to the schedule, the yatra will halt for the night in Indri here before moving to Kurukshetra district next morning. The yatra re-entered Haryana on Thursday evening from Uttar Pradesh.

Gandhi addressed a rally in Panipat on Friday and slammed the BJP government over the economy and unemployment, saying there are two Indias un-

The yatra covered over 130 km in its first phase in Haryana from December 21-23, passing through Nuh, Gurugram and Faridabad districts. The way you bat. You have to teach me one thing, how do you that no-look shot, no-look six? I just want to learn that from you,” Surya said in a one-on-one interaction with Brevis posted. Brevis responded: “I would be an honour, but I would love to learn lots of shots from you as well. The funny thing is My no - look shot just happens, it’s weird but I don’t know it just

happens.” Apart from sharing the dressing room with Surya in the IPL, Brevis will also represent MI Cape Town in the inaugural edition of the upcoming SA20 in South Africa. Surya, the world number one T20 batter, lauded the young Brevis for his knock of 162 off 57 balls during an CSA T20 Challenge game. “Last time I saw you smashed 160-165 runs off 50-55 balls in a T20 game. So now in ODIs, if you get to bat around 100 balls, are you going to score a triple hundred,” Surya said. To which Brevis replied: “It was like another normal day for me. It (that knock) just happened. I didn’t even realise what I was doing at that moment, everything just happened in the moment, at one point I even told the non-striker that I think I’ll try and hit every ball for six.

Chetan Sharma was on Saturday reappointed as the chairman of the senior selection committee, exactly two months after his entire panel was disbanded by the BCCI for the Indian team’s semifinal exit in the T20 World Cup. Chetan’s new team, though, would have entirely new faces with junior chairman of selectors S Sharath of South Zone being promoted. The others in the panel are former seamer Subroto Banerjee from East Zone, Salil Ankola from West Zone and Test opener Shiv Sunder Das from the Central zone. Das qualified

from central for being a former Vidarbha player after he finished playing for Odisha. His colleague, Harvinder Singh, also reapplied but wasn’t considered after interview as he was believed to be not up to the mark. “The board received around 600 applications following its advertisement for the five posts issued on its official website on 18th November 2022,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a release.

Veteran Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has decided to draw curtains on her illustrious career at next month’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship. The former doubles no.1 has made this announcement to WTA.

Sania initially intended to hang up her racquet at the end of last season, but an elbow injury ruled her out of the US Open and forced her to stop playing in 2022 as early as August.

The 36-year-old Sania, who is married to Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik, has been living in Dubai for more than a decade, and will look to bid adieu to the game at her home base. “I was going to stop right after the WTA Finals, because we were going to make the WTA Finals, but I tore my tendon in my elbow right

before US Open so I had to pull out of everything,” Sania told wtatennis.com. “And honestly, the person that I am, I like to do things on my own terms. So I don’t want to be forced out by injury. So I’ve been training.”

Sania, a six-time major champion -- three in doubles and three in mixed doubles -- has signed up to compete in this month’s Australian Open alongside Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina. She has been suffering from a lingering calf problem but is hoping that the injury won’t hamper her farewell plans.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday said that maiden Sovereign Green Bonds (SGrBs) would be issued in two tranches for an aggregate amount of Rs 16,000 crore. Proceeds from their issuance will be used to fund public sector projects seeking to reduce carbon emissions. The first auction of Rs 8,000 crore would be done on January 25 while the second for an equal amount will be held on February 9, the central bank disclosed in a statement. The bonds will be available in five and 10-year tenors. Of the Rs 8,000 crore, the auction for the fiveyear and 10-year paper will be for Rs 4,000 crore each. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced in the 2022-23 Union Budget that as part of its overall market borrowings, the Centre will be issuing SGrBs for mobilising resources for green infrastructure. The RBI, in

consultation with the government, has now notified the indicative calendar for the issuance of these bonds for the current fiscal year. The RBI added that 5 per cent of the notified amount of sale will be reserved for retail investors and that these papers will be reckoned as an eligible investment for SLR (statutory liquidity ratio) purposes. “SGrBs will be eligible for repurchase transactions (repo) according to the terms and conditions mentioned in repurchase transactions (repo) (Reserve Bank) Directions, 2018 as amended from time to time,” it noted. Further, these bonds will be eligible for trading in the secondary market.

Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd reported a 13% on-year growth in its Oct-Dec consolidated revenue as festival season demand resulted in higher footfall and sales across all markets, the company said in an exchange filing today. Despite a solid base from the prior year’s quarter, which was the first regular quarter without any pandemic-related disruptions, the Kerala-based jewellery chain’s revenue climbed 12% year over year in India. Because more showrooms have been opened in recent quarters, the sales rise was more rapid in non-south markets. Approximately 34% of Kalyan Jewellers’ India revenue comes from non-south markets.

During the December quarter, the corporation added five new showrooms, all of which were located outside of southern

markets. In India, there were 136 jewellery boutiques open as of the end of December. Over the next three months, Kalyan Jewellers will launch 11 new franchised showrooms in non-south areas. In the year 2023, the business intends to open 52 new showrooms. Sales in West Asia, which account for 16% of Kalyan Jewellers’ total revenue, increased 24% year on year in October and December as consumer sentiment improved significantly. However, compared to the prior quarter, the internet business’s revenue was 5% lower. According to Kalyan Jewellers.

Tunisha Sharma Death: Sheezan

Khan’s bail plea adjourned till Monday

Actor Sheezan Khan is currently in police custody for allegedly abetting the suicide of his ex-girlfriend, actress Tunisha Sharma. While he has been remanded to a 14-day judicial custody, the actor had moved court earlier this week to seek bail, the hearing for which was scheduled to be held on Saturday. However, the court has now adjourned his bail plea until Monday and the

next hearing is slated to be on January 9. Tunisha Sharma was found dead on the sets of the show on December 24. She hung herself in the makeup room on the sets of ‘Ali Baba: Dastaan-EKabul’. The actress was reportedly depressed for several days prior to her death because of her break up with Sheezan. The two allegedly broke up just 15 days before the actress claimed her life. Sheezan was arrested on December 25, a day after Tunisha’s death. So

far, the police have recorded the statements of 27 people in the matter. Tunisha’s mother Vanita Sharma had levelled allegations against Sheezan stating that he used to beat Tunisha and was forcing her to adopt Islamic practices. However, addressing a press conference, Sheezan’s sister and co-actor Falaq Naaz, accused Tunisha’s mother of “neglecting” her and said that the deceased actor’s depression was due to her childhood trauma.

Korea’s No. 2 home appliances maker posted an estimated 3.54 trillion won in operating profit, down 12.6 percent from a year earlier. Its annual sales expanded 12.9 percent on-year to a record 83.46 trillion won, with the data for net profit not available. It is the first time the company logged more than 80 trillion won in annual sales.

LG Electronics did not disclose detailed terms of the fourth-

quarter earnings, but experts said that a hike in raw material prices, increased marketing costs and the weakening Korean currency have likely undermined the company’s bottomline for the OctoberDecember period. In particular, global demand for televisions has dampened due to the protracted Russia-Ukraine war, while rising promotion costs to sell its inventory was also a factor in the sharp quarterly drop.

He also said that if the “judiciary is not pressed,” 16 MLAs (of the Shinde group, popularly known as the Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena) will be disqualified.
