‘Big boost for social justice’: BJP leaders welcome SC judgment on EWS quota BJP sources said the EWS decision was noteworthy because it gave benefits to certain class of people but did not take away benefits from the other Agency News: New Delhi The majority judgement of the Supreme Court on Monday upholding the 10% EWS reservation quota brought in 2019 is a vindication of the party’s stand, and backs the ‘Sabka Saath, Sabha Vishwas’ pitch of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sources in the BJP told.“A small vested interest group, which thrives on social divisions is raking up non-issues,” a BJP source said, pointing out when the 10% EWS reservation came through, it was welcomed by people across

all castes and communities. “At no point, did the SC or ST communities feel that their rights are being taken away. PM Modi himself hails from the OBC Community and is sensitive to demands of the poor and downtrodden,” the BJP source said. BJP sources also pointed out that the EWS decision was noteworthy because it gave benefits to certain class of people but did not take away benefits from the other. “What the Modi government did was a break from the previous culture of discrimination and divisions where to give something

to one group, (meant) things were snatched from another group,” the BJP source said, pointing to how reservation has always been a complicated subject in India’s history. Handling of the EWS issue shows the “uniqueness of the decision and indicates the Prime Minister’s way of approaching things”, the sources further said. The BJP pointed out that in the past due to reservation, politically vested interest groups created social fault lines and furthered division in society, with even governments falling over reservation.

To prove, minister points out that 95 per cent of population in state is Hindu

The BJP’s poll promise of imposition of the Uniform Civil Code in Himachal Pradesh is not aimed at polarisation, Union minister Jitendra Singh said on Monday. When they (Congress) ask why are we imposing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) here in Himachal as 95 per cent of the population is Hindu here, it means they do not want that this law be imposed in the country, he told reporters here. “When there is no scope for polarisation in Himachal and still the BJP wants to impose the UCC here, it shows that we do not want to impose it for the sake of polarisation,” he said. The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology said the saffron party has announced to impose the UCC in the whole country. Talking about the BJP manifesto for the

state which is going to poll on November 12, he said his party has tried to focus on areas that were ignored by the Congress. On the issue of unemployment, Singh said, “We have talked about start-up funding to address that. Employment does not mean providing only government jobs.” He said the youth in hill states think about government jobs as the only avenue for employment, but that perception needs to be changed. BJP president J P Nadda had on Sunday promised UCC and 33 per cent reservation for women in government jobs in Himachal Pradesh while releasing the party’s manifesto for the assembly polls. Focussing on women voters, Nadda released the party’s separate manifesto for them announcing 33 per cent reservation in government jobs. He also announced cycles for girl students in classes 6 to 12.

Party (AAP) on Agency News : New Delhi Editorial

The National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control — it reports to the Union health ministry — has alleged that it has not received dengue-related data from Bengal even though this is high transmission season. There is a reason for Bengal going denguedata dry: the sting of Aedes aegypti has been particularly sharp this year. Data suggest that this has been the worst outbreak of dengue in the last five years. Over 40,000 cases had been reported till the end of last month. The corresponding figure was 19,518 in 2017. Fatalities are on the rise too. Apart from Calcutta, the districts of Howrah, Hooghly, North 24-Parganas, Murshidabad and Jalpaiguri, among others, have been reeling under this public health crisis. The reasons for this frightful situation are not far to seek. Many of the affected areas have been plagued by the problem of poor management of solid waste. Adding to this challenge are the unacceptable standards of sanitation: clogged drains — a common feature in many of the wards — and unclean canals continue to serve as the birthing chamber of mosquitoes. Equally alarming has been the performance of vector-control teams. There is a consensus that the vector policy needs to be amended to ensure that municipal workers remain active during the peak season, employ scientific means to eradicate mosquito larvae, and the breeding grounds sites of mosquitoes are cleaned throughout the year. It is strange that these protocols need to be reiterated for the civic management staff of a city that suffers dengue’s depredations each year. The Bengal government’s response has been to brush the problem under the carpet, as it were. It has been miserly about data — apparently not to create mass panic. This measure is counterproductive as well as unethical. An information blackout is likely to add to public anxiety — this was the case during the Covid pandemic — apart from seriously hampering official efforts to identify the hotspots and take preventive measures. Moreover, during a health crisis, a government elected by the people is mandated to keep citizens informed of not only the severity of the threat but also the nature of administrative response. Lapses in the latter have forced the Bengal government on the backfoot; hence, its unwillingness to be transparent. Is not - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara opacity anathema to democracy?

Protests have swept through the Islamic Republic for weeks following

the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died on September 16 after being detained by “morality police” and taken to a “re-education center,” allegedly for not abiding by the country’s conservative dress code. In big relief for Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in the coal mining case as, the Supreme Court rejected plea calling for CBI and ED probe against the CM on Monday. The top court said that the plea filed in the High Court seeking CBI and ED probe against the Jharkhand Chief Minister in coal mining case not maintainable setting aside the Jharkhand High Court order in the matter. “We have allowed these two appeals and have set aside the June 3, 2022 order passed by the Jharkhand High Court, holding that these PILs were not maintainable,” the bench said. A bench of Justices U U Lalit, S R Bhat and Sudhanshu Dhulia had reserved its judgement on August 17 on separate pleas of the Jharkhand government and Soren against the high court’s order that accepted the maintainability of the PILs. The apex court had earlier restrained the high court from proceedings with the PILs seeking a probe against Soren in the mining lease issue. Hemant Soren has been accused of running illegal mining operations in the state through

his close aides. Soren is also facing disqualification as MLA on the BJP’s complaint for granting himself a mining lease while holding office in 2021. Adampur Win Ends BJP’s Haryana Jinx, AAP’s Dream as Bhavya Bishnoi Keeps Bhajan Lal’s Legacy Safe in Bastion Agency News : Adampur The Adampur bypoll was a litmus test for the BJP in Haryana’s political landscape. Even though the party managed to wrest the seat from Congress through a turncoat, it has given the state unit a major advantage as it gears up for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls as well as state assembly elections. To begin with, BJP has added one more legislator to its kitty, taking its total strength now to 41 MLAs. Apart from 10 JJP legislators, the government has the support of six Independent MLAs and one of the Haryana Lokhit Party. In the House of 90 MLAs, the BJP is inching closer to the majority mark on its own, though it still has to depend on the Independents. “This could further diminish the JJP’s capacity to keep BJP under check. This has also sent a message that with former Congress heavyweights on board, the party is on a more solid footing for the polls up ahead,’’ said a party leader. The victory has also broken the spell of defeats for the party with its candidates losing in Baroda and Ellenabad constituencies over the past two years. With these bypolls throwing

The Congress could not have taken steps such as construction of the Ram temple, the surgical strike or the abrogation of Article 370 because it does not care for the country’s security or the sentiments of people, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Monday. The BJP government at the Centre, he said at a rally, has taken landmark steps such as the surgical strike across the line of control in Kashmir and the abrogation of Article 370. The construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya also started under this government, Adityanath, who has been campaigning extensively across the hill state, told the gathering. “…has the Congress ever taken such landmark steps? Dubbing For Lyle Lyle Crocodile Agency News : Mumbai The American musical comedy Lyle Lyle Crocodile directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon, based on the children’s story of the same name, was released on October 7 to positive reviews. It features a talking crocodile named Lyle, which was voiced by Canadian singer Shawn Mendes. The movie has been released in Hindi in India as well and Lyle the crocodile has been voiced by singeranchor and actor Aditya Narayan in Hindi. However, reportedly, it was not a piece of cake for Aditya and he had to overcome certain challenges while taking up the job. The singer explained

to IANS that the primary challenge was to make Lyle his own, making the Indian soundtrack look like the original and not like a dubbed version. Shawn Mendes has a slender vocal, so his voice suits Lyle as the film traces Lyle’s journey from childhood to adolescence. He had to adjust his tonal quality in addition to figuring out how to include the Hindi lyrics into the original melody, which was

written with the English lyrics in mind. Aditya also said that he had to work on making his voice sound younger than his real age as Lyle is initially introduced as a baby crocodile. “It took me some time to get into the groove of things. But, once I figured out the method, it was a smooth sail,” he says. He also says that lending his voice to the film has had its advantages. “A singer who lends their voice to a role uses every tool at their disposal to make the lines and singing sound as authentic as it can be for the actor who will emote that song for the camera,” he said, adding that he did the same, which he believes will help in the long run as an actor.

Tata Steel bets on strong demand for better H2 margin Agency News : New Delhi Tata Steel’s profit slumped 90 per cent in Q1FY23 but Koushik Chatterjee, executive director & CFO of the company, tells The Telegraph that margin improvement in the second half is possible in India. He also talks about energy transition in the UK and Netherlands, the future of British Steel Pension Scheme, the deleveraging journey and the benefit from expansions. Tata Steel’s India business is one of the most competitive in the global steel industry. In the quarter gone by, we have sold a record 4.73 million tonnes(mt), which also demonstrates the strength of our distribution and

market reach in a challenging market. So at the operating level we had a good quarter in India. However, there was a confluence of adverse factors as we had an opening inventory which had high embedded costs because of coal imported in the previous quarter; and the price realisation on steel sales in the market was significantly lower than the previous quarter. One of the factors behind lower realisations was certainly the impact of export duty on the industry.
