Indians and Kuwait has nearly one million Indian diaspora, who contribute to Indian economy through remittances as well as in times of need. Even though the government is tight-lipped about the entire visit, PM Modi may travel to these two countries in the first 10 days of January 2022. Special emphasis is being paid to these two foreign trips as both nations are at the heart of India’s foreign policy towards Middle-East. Since his first visit to UAE at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in August

2015, PM Modi is totally focused on cementing ties with Abu Dhabi with foreign minister S Jaishankar returning from the UAE last Sunday. UAE is India’s third largest trade partner after US and China with the trade volumes touching over USD 60 billion. Gandhinagar court deems 6 months imprisonment for consuming liquor ‘quite high’, reduces sentence to 15 days Sunvilla News: Gandhinagar A Gandhinagar sessions court in an order dated November 24, granted relief to a 48-year-old man who was sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment in 2018 by a magisterial court for consuming alcohol, punishable under the Gujarat Prohibition Act. Amit Maheta, a resident of Mansa taluka, was found drunk at Alkapuri Society in Gandhinagar in 2015. A complaint was filed and in 2018, a magisterial court in Mansa sentenced the man to six months of rigorous imprisonment, deeming him guilty for an offence punishable under Section 66 (1) (b) of the Gujarat Prohibition Act. The conviction and sentence

were challenged before the Gandhinagar sessions court. During the course of the appeal before the principal sessions judge, Nipa Raval, it was taken into account that a medical test had shown the presence of 0.0605-gram percent (weight by volume) of ethyl alcohol in the blood, and if the percentage of alcohol exceeds 0.05 gram, it is considered an offence under the Prohibition Act. Upholding the conviction by the magisterial court as valid in light of the evidence produced before the court, the sessions judge, however, held that “looking at the age of the accused and status of health and other criteria for convicting him, this court has to see that penology is properly looked into while convicting the accused.

Indias Digital Currency Act May Add To Confusion Than Offer Solution

The cryptocurrency and regulation of official digital currency bill 2021 is awaiting introduction during the current winter session even as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said inParliament that the government has no proposal to recognise Bitcoin as a currency in thecountry. She also informed the House that the government does not collect data on Bitcointransactions. Privately, however, cryptocurrency is very much in circulation in India as it is inmany other economies across the world. No one really knows if it is being tracked by thegovernment. The Supreme Court of India already overturned the ban on Bitcoin imposed bythe Reserve Bank in 2017. The apex court struck down the restriction in March 2020.Thecourt ruled that the ban was in violation of the freedom of business and profession underArticle 19(1)(g) of the Indian Constitution. Thereon, cryptocurrency continues to be operatedin the country in a legal vacuum. The new cryptocurrency bill probably seeks to create a regulatory framework fortransactions. It is possible that the government may come up with its own central bank digitalcurrency or CBDC. In such a case, all other digital currencies in the market will be seen asprivate cryptocurrencies. Will the law be strong enough to deal with such privatecryptocurrencies and exchanges? Thus, the confusion remains about the current and futurestatus of cryptocurrencies in India, exchanges facilitating their transactions, RBI’s role ascurrency controller and the challenges before the government’s tax department. Going bythe global trend, cryptocurrency is here to stay and even prosper. In coming years, it may aswell pose a challenge to the central banking system. But, it is unlikely to become a substitutefor central bank-controlled paper currency in the foreseeable future.A cryptocurrency is a virtual currency secured by cryptography. This makes it nearlyimpossible to counterfeit. It is a peer-to-peer digital payment system that doesnt rely onbanks to verify transactions. Instead of being physical money that is carried around andexchanged in the real world, cryptocurrency payments exist purely as digital entries to anonline database that describe specific transactions. When cryptocurrency funds aretransferred, the transactions are recorded in a public ledger. One can store cryptocurrency ina digital wallet. Many cryptocurrencies are decentralised networks using blockchaintechnology. Blockchains are organisational methods for ensuring the integrity oftransactional data and are an essential component of most cryptocurrencies. The mostimportant feature is that cryptocurrencies are generally not issued by any central authority orcentral bank. This makes them theoretically immune to government interference ormanipulation. They are praised for their portability, divisibility, inflation resistance, andtransparency. Bitcoin is by far the most popular cryptocurrency, followed by other currenciessuch as Ethereum, Binance Coin, Solana, and Cardano.According to Edul Patel, CEO and Co-founder of crypto investment platform Mudrex, thereare more than 11,000 cryptocurrencies that are traded across exchanges. Cryptocurrencieslike Bitcoin, Ether and others are available across centralised and decentralised exchanges. However, all of these cryptos are created by developers or companies, and not bygovernments. Bitcoin was introduced in 2008 by an unidentified group of programmers as acryptocurrency as well as an electronic payment system, following the collapse of thetraditional international financial system. It is said to be the first decentralised digital tokenwhere peer-to-peer transactions take place without any intermediary. Bitcoin is the world'smost popular cryptocurrency. Unofficial reports suggest that millions of Indians have alreadyinvested sums worth billions of dollars in cryptocurrency. This is not unusual. It is in keepingwith the trend in many countries where cryptocurrency is officially banned. In India, cryptocurrency can be bought from exchanges such as Coinbase and Coindesk. Bitcoinscan be had from Zebpay using one’s bank account, NEFT, RTGS, debit or credit card. Abasic KYC is needed by submitting PAN and Aadhaar cards. As little as Rs. 500 can beinvested in Bitcoin. The transactions go on without government recognition.Incidentally, China does not recognise the - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara virtual currency as a legal.
