29 killed after bus falls off Yamuna Expressway into drain; UP CM orders probe
Noida: Twenty-nine people died and 17 were injured after a bus fell into a drain on Yamuna Expressway in Agra early Monday morning. The bus was travelling from Lucknow to Delhi and was registered to Awadh depot. While the cause of the accident is unknown, it is alleged that the driver fell asleep on the wheel causing the bus to steer away from the highway. The accident occurred at around 4.15 am near Etmadpur in Agra. It is alleged that the bus drifted from the road, crossed a barricade and fell into the drain approximately 40 feet.

GNS_Mumbai: Tar balls ranging from 15 to 20cm in diameter, and weighing almost six to seven kilograms (kg) were found in large quantities across various parts of Juhu beach on Friday and Saturday, forcing environment groups to file complaints with state agencies to remove them and identify the source. “The contractor appointed at Juhu beach has been directed to remove these tar balls at the earliest. Most years, the amount is much lesser and spread across isolated areas, but this time, large balls have washed ashore, indicating higher oil deposition at sea,” said Prashant Gaikwad, assistant municipal commissioner, BMC. Working with states to provide piped water connections to each rural household by 2024 is ambitious yet quite achievable given the government’s success in the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) agenda towards an open defecation free (ODF) India through citizen’s movement and other initiatives. the creation of local infrastructure for source sustainability like rain water harvesting, ground water recharge and the management of household waste water for reuse in agriculture is an exciting framework for implementation, from the private sector participation perspective as well. Such a move is certainly going to attract businesses particularly in the creation of infrastructure and waste water treatment plants. It is also heartening to see an additional budgetary provision for addressing nearly 1,600 rural blocks which are over exploited, under the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA). As rightly highlighted by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget speech, SBM-G (Gramin) is a success and the focus will continue in efforts to sustain the behavioural change achieved in sanitation, Besides, on the sanitation front, the Union Budget 2019 has spoken of the latest technologies being made available to transform waste into energy which includes solid waste management as also faecal sludge. Faecal sludge management is a critical aspect of improved sanitation in the years to come. I also see merit in proposing initiatives and schemes being covered by other departments than DDWS which are likely to complement the efforts to sustain the ODF status of the country. PMAY-G is one such example, where 1.95 crore houses are proposed to be built over the next two years with amenities like toilets, electricity and LPG connections.

The auto major said it slashed total vehicle production, including Super Carry LCV, by 15.6 per cent last month to 1,11,917 units as compared to 1,32,616 units in the year-ago month. Total passenger vehicle production stood at 1,09,641 units last month, down 16.34 per cent from 1,31,068 units in June 2018. The auto major cut production of mini segment vehicles, including models like Alto, by 48.2 per cent to 15,087 units last month as against 29,131 units in the year-ago period. Similarly, it slashed production of compact segment cars like WagonR, Swift.
