US regulator upgrades India's aviation safety rating
Agency : NEW DELHI The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has upgraded India's aviation safety rating, in a boost for Indian airlines which can now increase the number of flights they operate to the United States. US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a statement on Wednesday that India had taken corrective action to address the FAA's concerns after the aviation regulator downgraded India's rating to category 2 from category 1 in January
last year, citing a lack of safety oversight. The decision, which takes the rating back to category 1, was not unexpected as India's aviation authorities have said they were working hard to win back the higher rating. The upgraded rating is expected to help Jet Airways and state-owned Air India, the two Indian airlines which currently fly to the United States. The downgrade had meant both carriers could not increase flights to the United States and faced extra checks for existing ones.

General Kuldipsingh Sheoran, Commander Coast Guard region (northwest), said. “We received a telephonic message for an urgent medical evacuation from a Malta-flagged LPG carrier ‘Motor Tanker Hellas Serenity’ that one of their crew members, named Kaloudis Gerasimos, was suffering from acute appendicitis,” Sheoran said. ship was about 305 nautical miles from Gujarat coast and was advised to proceed to Porbandar for subsequent air-lifting of the crew member and medical treatment, he said. The vessel arrived near Porbandar in the wee hours today and the Coast Guard’s advance light helicopter successfully airlifted the patient and provided him first aid and medical treatment, Sheoran said. The condition of the crew member is stable and he has been shifted to a Rajkot hospital for further treatment with the help of the vessel’s local agent, he said. The cargo ship is an LPG carrier, on passage from Fujairah in United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Indonesia.

After it failed to attract passengers for its intrastate flight services, Maritime Energy Heli Air Services Ltd (MehAir) is set to partner Surat based Diamond Aeronautics Ltd (DAL), an airline company owned by the diamond barons. MehAir in collaboration with Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Ltd (GUJSAIL) had launched services to three locations just 10 days before Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2015. MehAir began with first flight to Porbandar on January 2 this year and was to operate 20 flights per week to Porbandar, Bhuj and Jamnagar. However, according to sources, MehAir has clocked merely 85 hours of operations in last three months and only 60 passengers used its services. Also

For the regional airline service, the company had deployed Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft worth Rs 15 crore with capacity to carry 9 passengers and two pilots.
