Projected inflation for this fiscal year (2022/23) is 6.7%. Projected real GDP growth stays at 7.2%. After last month’s surprise off-
cycle meet, the central bank once again hiked the repo rate - this time by 50 basis points. The SDF, or standing deposit facility, rate and the MSF, or marginal standing facility, rate have been adjusted higher by the same quantum to 4.65% and 5.15%, respectively. One basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point. And the repo rate refers to the rate at which commercial banks borrow money by selling their securities to the RBI. The reverse repo is the rate at which the central bank borrows money. The aggressive stance comes amid grim prognosis of geo-political uncertainties over the war in Ukraine, continuing supply-chain disruptions, and rising energy and food prices.

Agency News:Mumbai Maharashtra on Wednesday logged 2,701 fresh Covid-19 cases, including 1,765 in Mumbai, the highest in nearly four months, the state health department said. There has been no death in Mumbai for the third straight day. The active cases in the state increased to a little less than 10,000, the health department said. With the fresh cases, the state’s overall infection tally rose to 78,98,815 and the death toll to 11,47,866. The active cases stand at 9,806, it said. The state
had recorded 2,797 fresh cases on February 17 this year.On Tuesday, Maharashtra had recorded 1,881 new coronavirus cases, 81 per cent more than the previous day and the highest since February 18, and also reported one case of B.A.5 variant. Mumbai alone accounted for 1,242 new cases, almost double Monday’s count.On Monday, the state had recorded 1,036 infections while Mumbai had reported 676 cases. It may be noted that generally fewer cases are recorded on Mondays as fewer tests are carried out during weekends.

Retail inflation is likely to hover around 6.7 per cent for the current financial year, i.e., for 2022/23, Reserve Bank of India governor Shaktikanta Das said Wednesday after a scheduled meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), raising the forecast from the 5.7 per cent seen earlier. “With the assumption of a normal monsoon, in 2022 and average crude oil price in the Indian basket of 105 dollars per barrel, inflation is now projected at 6.7 per cent in 202223,” the RBI governor said, noting the impact of war in Ukraine remains a concern and that the economy faces new challenges daily that accentuates supply chain

Gujarat transport minister Purnesh Modi announced the hike after a meeting with representatives of auto rickshaw unions.Talking to mediapersons, Modi said that the unions had demanded the minimum fare to be raised to Rs 30, but the government has
approved an increase of Rs 2.While the minimum fare will be Rs 20, Rs 2 hike has been approved for every additional kilometre as well.Modi said that the new fares will be effective till March 31, 2023, and that the unions had agreed not to ask for any hike before that.
