The accident site was a scene of despair with trees being reduced to broken pieces under the impact of the crash, flames from the chopper engulfing the wooden logs resulting in billowing smoke and personnel scurrying to douse the fire, including using buckets and water hose. What seemed to be some charred bodies were also seen lying around. The US Embassy extended its deepest condolences to the Rawat family and the families of those who perished in the tragic helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu. As India’s first Chief of Defence Staff, General Rawat spearheaded a historic period of transformation in the military.

Details of the injured and of any possible casualties are awaited. There were nine people on board the chopper, apart from the crew. Sources said at least three injured people from the crash have been taken to hospital, but their identities are not confirmed. as on 31st March, 2021 under the scheme. “The continuation of scheme till March, 2024 ensures that the remaining 155.75 lakh households within overall target of 2.95 crore houses under PMAY-G would be provided assistance for construction of Pucca houses with basic amenities to achieve the objective of “Housing for All” in rural areas,” the Cabinet said in a statement. Till November 29, 2021 a total 1.65 crore PMAY-G houses have been constructed out of the total target of 2.95 crore, it said. “It is estimated that 2.02 crore houses.

Sonia Gandhi Has A Tough Task To Project Her Party As Dependable Ally
Will the Congress Party perish as West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and others believe? Even in the past, many had predicted the end of Congress, but it had survived many onslaughts. The latest was in 1998 when Sonia Gandhi emerged Sphinx-like to reviveit and rule from 2004- 2014. The 2014 Lok Sabha results gave the Congress 12 crore votes,though seat-wise, it got only 52. Even in its second successive defeat in 2019, the partyretained a solid block of 20 percent votes. The Gandhi family is complacent, believing thatthe voters will get disenchanted with Narendra Modi sooner than later and return to theGrand Old Party. No doubt they live in a fool’s paradise as there is an urgent need to revivethe party. Undoubtedly, the Congress Party faces a leadership crisis and challenges frommany sides.The first is to quell the internal indiscipline and revolt. The group of 23 led by Ghulam NabiAzad, is an example and this disenchantment is prevalent in almost all states.The second comes from within the opposition bloc. Of late West Bengal chief ministerMamata Banerjee’s attack backed by the wily NCP chief Sharad Pawar has intensified. Now that Mamata has decided to bid for the Prime Minister’s post in 2024, she is trying to edgeout Congress from the opposition bloc. As a first step, Banerjee is preparing to broad base her party and also gain pan-national recognition.The third is the shrinking Congress party in many states and even regions. The Congressshould now aim to build upon the 12 crore voter base instead of embroiling itself in self-made controversies. Of the 186 direct fights between the BJP and Congress in 2019, theBJP won 170 seats, amounting to a 91.4 percent strike rate. It had bagged 162 of theseseats in the 2014 elections. The Congress, which had won 24 of these seats in 2014, hascome down to 15. In Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana,Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, and West Bengal, whereit ruled in the past, Congress won only 10 out of 286 seats. The party has no representationfrom 20 states. Further, the BJP has taken over the opposition space in Odisha and WestBengal, where Congress has traditionally been the main opposition. Also, the regionalparties continue to put up a much better fight than the Congress.So, what are the options for the party now that there are cracks within the opposition?The first is to think of a long-term strategy and start preparing for 2024.Lok Sabha elections.Mamata is doing precisely that. The Congress is involved in short-term quick-fix solutions, often messing up the party’s chances as they did in Punjab recently. But before that, theparty needs to resolve its leadership crisis, which has been going on since August 2019.The second is that the party needs enormous resources and committed booth committees tocompete with the BJP. Once these two are addressed, the other things are moremanageable.The third is to find ways of uniting the opposition. Sonia Gandhi has the stature to do this asalmost all opposition parties might be willing to unite under her leadership, but they havereservations against Rahul Gandhi. If necessary the Gandhi family should pave way forsome other leader.The regional leaders realize that though they could contain the BJP in their states they donot have a pan-national presence. Congress has still that presence, a party committee ineach village of the country. Last Sunday, the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna in its editorial, said that pushing the grandold party away from national politics and creating an Opposition grouping parallel to the UPA(United Progressive Alliance) would only strengthen the BJP and “fascist” forces. ThoughMamata tried to woo the Sena during her recent visit, Sena does not want to lose itsgovernment as Congress is its coalition partner in Maharashtra.Rahul has been in politics since 2004, but he is not yet accepted as the opposition face.Rahul’s efforts to befriend second-generation leaders like Akhilesh Yadav have notsucceeded. He needs an image makeover.The fourth and more complex option is to give a call to all those leaders who had leftCongress to come back. This idea has been springing up on and off. Congress has been theparent of many ruling parties like the NCP, TMC, YSRCP. There have been suggestions thatsuch a united party could function under a presidium and collective leadership. But theparent party is hesitant to take such a plunge. A united Congress is more formidable to theBJP than a divided opposition, - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara that is the only advantage of BJP.

The Elgar Parishad meeting on 31 December, 2017 preceded widespread violence on January 1, 2018, and Bharadwaj and other activists were later arrested for allegedly inciting violence by creating communal disharmony while being hand in glove with the cadre of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist). The Elgar Parishad meeting was meant to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Bhima Koregaon battle, where a Dalit regiment.

RBI Monetary Policy: Repo rate unchanged at 4% for the 9th consecutive time The six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) headed by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das kept the repo rate unchanged at 4 per cent, while the reverse repo rate also was kept unchanged at 3.35 per cent. Agency News:Mumbai The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) kept the repo rate unchanged at 4 per cent for the ninth consecutive time while maintaining an ‘accommodative stance’ as long as necessary, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das announced on
Wednesday. The central bank governor said that the MPC had voted unanimously 5:1 to maintain the accommodative stance and added that the reverse repo rate too was kept unchanged at 3.35 per cent. The RBI had last revised its policy repo rate or the shortterm lending rate on May 22, 2020, in an off-policy cycle to
perk up demand by cutting the interest rate to a historic low. Speaking on the GDP, Das said that the projection for real GDP growth is maintained at 9.5 per cent. However, the RBI revised its Q3FY22 GDP growth to 6.6 per cent from 6.8 per cent earlier. Additionally, Q4FY22 GDP was cut to 6 per cent from 6.1 per cent earlier. The real

The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed all proceedings against two women journalists accused by Tripura Police of spreading “fake visuals” of communal violence in the northeastern state last month. The women - journalists from the HW News Network - were named in two FIRs filed by police for “spreading communal disharmony” following their reporting on the communal violence in the state. The top court today halted all proceedings in both FIRs and issued a notice to Tripura Police. “We’ll issue a notice (to Tripura Police) seeking their response. There shall be a stay of all further proceedings pursuant to FIR No 39 registered in Tripura and FIR No 82. A counter-affidavit (by the petitioners) is to be filed within four weeks,” Justice DY Chandrachud said. Justice Chandrachud was part of the threemember bench hearing this matter; the other two were Justice Surya Kant and Justice Vikram Nath Earlier, senior advocate.

Covid cases rise; 61 in a day A steady increase has been reported in Covid-19 cases in the state with 61 new cases on Tuesday, the highest of 25 cases being reported in Ahmedabad city within 24 hours. The state is recording nearly double the number of Covid-19 cases it was reporting in the last week of November, when daily cases hovered around 30 every day. As per details provided by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), 12 new cases in Ahmedabad city are family clusters residing in the northwest and west zones. Six Jamnagar tuition students test negative Six students of Jamnagar who were taking tuition from the wife of a Covid positive patient, tested negative on Tuesday. One sample, however, was found to be inadequate and was sent for repeat test. The scare began when the wife of 72-year old Omicron patient’s brother-in-law, who too had tested positive and is suspected to be infected with Omicron variant, was found taking tuition classes of students aged between five and 10 years. As per the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) health department records, the months of September (436), October (462) and November (291) record 73 per cent of the total cases for 2021. Within just four days of December, 32 cases have been reported. While chikungunya cases have been on a continuous rise, dengue cases after a decline in 2020 have spiked again, this year. Though the mortality rate has declined in last three years — from 13 in 2019 to one this year– the cases reported in 2019 was 4,547. In 2020, dengue cases declined to 432 which again stung 2,999 persons-rose by nearly seven times, till December 4 this year. “When we compare the 2019 numbers, there has been a huge rise in chikungunya cases which has not been the case with dengue,” said AMC’s Medical Officer of Health Dr Bhavin Solanki.
