Stating that the results validate BJP’s pro-poor and proactive governance, Modi added that the festival of Holi has begun with BJP’s win in the assembly polls. Yogi Adityanath, who is set to become the first chief minister in UP to return to power after

serving a full five-year term, earlier on Thursday said the “misleading” campaign run by the Opposition over the past 2-3 days has been set aside by the people who reposed faith in the good governance of the BJP. Addressing party workers at the state headquarters after the poll results and trends showed a clear BJP majority, he added that people have buried the politics of caste and religion by

ensuring victory of BJP in Uttar Pradesh. The ruling BJP is set to return to power in Uttar Pradesh as the party has won 197 seats and is leading on 58, while its rival Samajwadi Party has won 71 seats and is leading on 39 seats, according to the Election Commission (EC) website. BJP workers wave the party’s flag as part in celebration on UP Assembly election’s results day. The saffron party is leading in over 260 seats in UP and AAP workers lift a broom to celebrate their party’s win in Punjab. The Aam Aadmi Party is on its way to becoming the first regional party to win a second state.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted Thursday afternoon after chastening defeats for the Congress in all five states that held Assembly elections over the past two months. The scale of the GOP’s defeats were underlined by its performances in Uttar Pradesh - where it is projected to win just three of 403 seats - and Punjab where its government has been defeated (resoundingly) by the Aam Aadmi Party that is expected to secure over 90 seats in a 117-member house. Five Assembly Poll Results Jolt For Congress, Boost To Bjp And Narendra Modi The results of the assembly elections to the five states – Uttar Pradesh, Punjab,Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur – have shown that the Grand Old Party the Congress is onthe decline. The Party has not only lost its ruling state Punjab miserably to the Aam AdmiParty (AAP) but also done badly in the two states Goa and Manipur compared to the 2017elections when the Party emerged as the largest group. In Uttarakhand, the Party hasimproved a bit in terms of seats but the BJP convincingly retained the state .In UttarPradesh, nobody expected any Congress miracle, but even with the hype generated byPriyanka Gandhi in the poll campaign, the Party ended with a miniscule tally of 2 to 3 out of403 seats compared to 7 in last assembly elections. As regards BJP, the Party can claim some satisfaction that it has been able to retain powerin Uttar Pradesh despite the lowering number of seats, convincingly won again inUttarakhand and emerged as the single largest party in two states Goa and Manipur. TheBJP with its manipulative power is in a position to cobble a majority in both the states just asit did after 2017 assembly elections. As regards Punjab, BJP leadership had never any bighopes but they should be happy that the AAP has displaced the Congress and this AAPemergence will be a big challenge to the Congress, the main rival of BJP nationally and thathas potential for making a success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s divide and ruleapproach towards the opposition to help BJP to retain power in 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The upshot of the assembly elections is the unprecedented victory of AAP in Punjabassembly elections by getting around 90 out of the total 117 seats. The Congress whichruled after 2017 is a distant second with just 15 seats. This is a major personal defeat forboth Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi who played major role in removing the incumbentchief minister Captain Amarinder Singh before the elections. For nearly six weeks, there wasa total mess in congress organisation. The Congress could not get the dividends from thefarmers’ agitation. The AAP got it. The strategy of Gandhi family regarding Punjab electionsboomeranged. The loss of Punjab and the humiliation of the Party in four other states will be a bigdisadvantage for the Congress which is very keen to head the combined opposition in thebattle against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The regional parties who were waitingfor the outcome of the assembly elections are expected to take the position that theCongress has no muscle power to take on BJP on a national plane. The regional parties willhave to play the major role in uniting the anti-BJP parties and the Congress will be taken inthat front on the terms of the regional parties. Arvind Kejriwal is expected to play a major rolein the non-BJP combination and the AAP leaders will like to pitch him as a potential PrimeMinister candidate to face Narendra ModiAAP is now the only regional party which will be ruling in two states. Delhi may not be a full state but it is the capital and it has special importance. Now with Punjab in its kitty, AAP has vindicated its role as a national player and AAP is in contest with the Trinamool Congresswhose supremo Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee sees herself as the potential leaderof the opposition. A meeting is likely to be held after the beginning of the Parliament sessionon March 14 in which the regional chief ministers will be discussing the centre-state relationsand also the strategy of the opposition parties to face the challenge from the BJP.AAP willbe a prominent player in this conference. Whether the Congress is invited to this meet, isyet to be seen.In the recent months, in all the local level elections held in the states ruled by the regionalparties, the parties swept the polls- Trinamool in Bengal, DMK led front in Tamil Nadu, TRSin Telangana, BJD in Odisha and YRSRC in Andhra Pradesh. Congress in the latest localpoll elections in Assam where it is the second largest party challenging the BJP got only onebody out of 80 civic boards while the BJP got as high as 75. This means that the Congresshas been further marginalized in Assam and the same may be repeated in the 2024 LokSabha polls unless a major rejuvenation of the Party organization and leadership takesplace. In Indian politics, the voters are not static, they change on the basis of their experience. Thepolitical parties have to take proper lessons from the results and make due correctivemeasures. The Congress has got still chance to take necessary measures before the nextround of state assembly polls in Gujarat and Himachal at the end of this year. Prime MinisterNarendra Modi is leaving for Gujarat to start his yatra in the wake of the results of the fiveassembly elections. The BJP - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara leadership is now focusing.

Last year, the veteran actor delivered yet another impactful character in Kabir Khan’s greatest sports victory ‘83’ that will be etched in our memory forever. While Boman portrayed the role of the legendary Indian commentator Farokh Engineer in the sports drama, he is excited about the movie’s World TV premiere on 20th March.Sharing an interesting anecdote of prepping up for

his role, Boman recollects, “Farokh Engineer was the only Indian commentator for the 1983 World Cup. As a child, if someone has seen MS Dhoni on TV and he later gets to meet him or spend time at his house, how would that person feel? I felt just that when I got a chance to meet Farokh and stay over at his place. We watched the IndiaPakistan match together. That was one of the best times that I had spent while working on a character. While staying with him, the idea was to try and understand the man, his psyche. I had followed his work as a kid.

Chelsea future uncertain after sanctions against owner Roman Abramovich Agency News: New Delhi European champions Chelsea are now effectively under the control of the British government after Russian owner Roman Abramovich was placed under sanctions on Thursday. Abramovich, who had been under scrutiny following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, had announced he was selling the Premier League club last week. Yet that process is now on hold, leaving the club, ranked by Forbes as the seventh most

valuable in world soccer at $3.2 billion, in a state of limbo. The Russian bought the West London team in 2003 for a reported 140 million pounds ($184 million) and his investment contributed hugely to the most successful era in the team’s history as they won five Premier League titles, five FA Cups and the Champions League twice. His purchase of the club helped transform the landscape of English football with Chelsea breaking the stranglehold of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Disney censors same-sex affection in Pixar films, claims letter

Agency News: Mumbai A statement attributed to “the LGBTQIA+ employees of Pixar, and their allies” obtained by ‘Variety’, employees of the animation studio allege that

Disney corporate executives have demanded cuts from “nearly every moment of overtly gay affection” regardless of when there is protest from both the creative teams and executive leadership at Pixar. The stunning

claim is part of a wider reaction to the company-wide memo sent to Disney employees by CEO Bob Chapek on Monday regarding its response to the recently passed legislation in Florida known as the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill, reports variety.com.In the memo, Chapek states that the “biggest impact” the company can make “in creating a more inclusive world is through the inspiring content we produce”. According to the Pixar letter, that claim is at odds with employees’ experience of trying to create content with same-sex affection approved by Disney

executives.“We at Pixar have personally witnessed beautiful stories, full of diverse characters, come back from Disney corporate reviews shaved down to crumbs of what they once were,” the letter states.“Even if creating LGBTQIA+ content was the answer to fixing the discriminatory legislation in the world, we are being barred from creating it.”To date, Pixar has only included a tiny handful of LGBTQ characters in its feature films, most prominently in the 2020 fantasy film ‘Onward’, which features a cyclops police officer named Specter.
