The Supreme Court on Tuesday hauled up the Maharashtra assembly for its decision to suspend 12 BJP MLAs in July 2021 for one year, saying such a move could be dangerous to democracy and appeared to be unconstitutional.“The House (Assembly) is governed by Constitution and fundamental rights. If there is a statutory obligation in filling up a vacancy, at best within six months, anything beyond that is unconstitutional,” a three-judge bench headed by justice AM

Khanwilkar said in preliminary observations during a hearing into a bunch of petitions filed by the 12 MLAs against the assembly resolution of July 5, 2021, to suspend them from the House for a year. The MLAs were accused of misbehaving in the House and using “abusive language” against the presiding officer, Bhaskar Jadhav. The bench, also comprising justices Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar further stated, “Even if we accept the argument that the House has the power to suspend, you cannot create a constitutional.

Five Assembly Election Results Will Impact Crucial Presidential Poll

Election Commission has sounded the poll bugle for Assembly elections to Uttar Pradesh,Goa, Punjab, Manipur, and Uttarakhand. BJP is ruling in four of the five states except forPunjab. IN Goa and Manipur, though Congress emerged as the single largest party, the BJPmanaged to form the government by dividing the other parties in 2017.A total of 18.34 crore electors, out of which 8.55 crore are women electors, and 24.9 lakhfirst-time electors will participate in the five states, including Uttar Pradesh. So women andyouth voters will have a say in the poll results. Significantly, the voters will exercise theirfranchise amid a surging third covid wave. Why are these polls crucial? With a multi-cornered contest in almost all the poll-boundstates, polls will indicate the direction for the future. Significantly, Prime Minister NarendraModi is hoping for a hat trick in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The BJP is trying to retain UttarPradesh, which has 403 Assembly seats. It also has 80 Lok Sabha seats. Whoever wins UPhas a significant advantage in bidding for power in 2024.Secondly, it is a contest between brand Modi and the entire opposition. It is also held duringthe mid-term for Modi's second innings. As the country copes with the continuing Covid, itwill be a test for the prime minister to ensure that his popularity is intact. He might have anadvantage over a divided opposition.Thirdly, the BJP depends totally on Modi as the party has not developed any strong stateleaders except in U.P. Prime Minister has been its poll mascot.Fourthly, it will also be a test for the incumbent U.P chief minister Yogi Adityanath. He isstaking all to win the state again, whereas in the 2017 polls, he was merely an M.P, and theparty chose him after the elections. He has spent huge money on advertisements forpropagating his achievements in the past few months. But historically, no one has won asecond term since 1985 in the state.Fifthly, it will be a fight for survival for all the regional players like Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati,Priyanka Gandhi, Jayant Chowdury in U.P Samajwadi chief Akhilesh Yadav sees the fight asa real contest between the S.P and the BJP. However, the opposition is at a disadvantage, because of the multi-cornered contest. Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party havefared poorly since 2014. BSP chief Mayawati, who ruled U.P five times earlier, has beenquietly working for her return. Priyanka Gandhi is the face of the Congress, but she is yet to prove her vote-catching capacity. After the death of RLD leader Ajit Singh, his son Jayanthas not yet established himself. In four states- Punjab, Manipur, Goa, and Uttarakhand -- there will be a direct contestbetween Congress and the BJP. Any additional win for Congress will give it boost. The partyshould at least retain Punjab and grab Uttarakhand. Besides, two other regional parties, AAPand Trinamool, are also testing their luck.Sixthly, political parties exploit caste, religion, development, and covid handling as issues inthese polls. Caste has always been a factor in the northern belt, as people cast votes fortheir caste. BJP will be touting the building of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, which has been itslong-time poll promise. On August 5, 2020, Prime Minister symbolically laid the foundationwith a 40 kg silver brick for the Ram temple. For the voters who believe in religion, this is abig issue. Kashi Viswanath temple also had a facelift. The BJP touted this as a goldenchapter in the party’s history. Seventhly, the results will signal whether the regional parties are the real challenger to thesurging BJP. In most states, particularly in U.P, the regional parties are fighting for theirsurvival.Eighthly, the results might impact the upcoming presidential polls in JuneJuly, since theMLAs form the electoral college. These results will also decide the fate of 680 Assemblyseats in these five states and 19 Rajya Sabha seats.Last but not least, the covid handling and the return of the third wave would directly impactthe ruling BJP at the Centre and in the BJP ruled states. IN the previous Assembly polls heldin the first half of the year, the ‘Netas’ who addressed huge poll rallies were considered thesuperspreaders. This time the Election Commission has banned physical rallies to checkthe covid. On the whole, the assembly polls would be a nail-biting event for all the stakeholders. March10 will reveal whom - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara Dame Luck will favour.

Only offices considered essential services will be exempted.Till now, offices had been asked to function with half their employees in office and the rest at home. Government offices in the city are working with 50 percent attendanceThose exempted from the new rule include private banks, offices providing essential services, insurance companies, pharma companies, microfinance companies, lawyers’ offices and courier services. The decision was taken by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).Yesterday, Delhi shut restaurants and bars and said only takeaways and home delivery would be allowed. Delhi reported over 19,000 new cases yesterday, marginally lower than Sunday’s 22,751.

In the recent past, there has been a clamour demanding suspensionof derivative contracts on agricultural commodities by a section of value chain participants whodo not want transparent pricing and thrive from price opacity. Their arguments are devoid of anymerit and do not have any empirical evidence. In the instant case of Cotton contract on MCX, thepressure groups are lobbying for its suspension at the cost of farmers who are major beneficiariesof higher cotton prices after many years. The commodity exchanges across the world function on the principles of efficient marketconduct, which enables every participant to take informed decisions with all publicly availabledata/ information. Such information is assimilated, which could be

as frequent as daily updates orweekly/monthly data estimates issued by various state, central government authorities, international newswires, and other sources. An efficient market, where price being a signal, ensures most optimal allocation of scarce resources. At MCX, we are mindful of ourresponsibilities in ensuring free, transparent and efficient price discovery on the exchange withall its attending risk management measures. In these circumstances, we are surprised to knowthat certain pressure groups are working for suspension of the Cotton contract on the exchange. We, therefore, thought it appropriate to place before all stakeholders the demand and supplyfundamentals of Cotton, various myths and realities, and rationale as to why contracts should notbe suspended.

New Zealand beat Bangladesh Sensex revisits 60,500-level in by an innings to tie series opening deals; Nifty tops 18,000 The result appeared a reversal for Bangladesh who made history when they won the first Test by eight wickets for their first win in any format in New Zealand. Agency News:New Delhi A courageous century by wicketkeeper Liton Das made Bangladesh a hard nut to crack but New Zealand finally broke through on Tuesday to win the second cricket Test by an innings and 117 runs to tie the two-match series. Das batted almost one-handed for much of his innings after being struck on the glove. He weathered a barrage of short-pitched bowling
