PM security breach: Got warning calls, complain SC lawyers SHORTLY BEFORE the Supreme Court took up a petition seeking a probe into the breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security on Monday, some lawyers of the top court complained of receiving pre-recorded messages from a number registered outside India, accepting responsibility for blocking the Prime Minister’s convoy in Punjab and warning the court against doing anything that will help the government. The lawyers said they received two calls at approximately 10.40 am and 12.36 pm. India’s active caseload crosses 8 lakh, Omicron tally at 4,461 India on Tuesday reported a single-day spike of 1,68,063 Covid-19 cases, pushing the active count to 8,21,446. While the daily case count is down from Monday’s 1,79,723 new cases, the daily positivity rate in the country in the last 24 hours stood at 10.64 per cent. As many as 277 deaths were recorded. According to the Union Ministry of Health, the Omicron tally has reached 4,461, with Maharashtra reporting the highest number of cases (1,247), followed by Rajasthan (645) and Delhi (546). Of these, as many as 1,711 have either recovered or been discharged as of Tuesday, 9 am. In Karnataka, of the 479 Omicron cases, 26 have recovered, while in Kerala 140 of the 350 cases have recovered or been discharged. In Tamil Nadu, all of the 185 reported Omicron cases have either recovered or been discharged, the government’s press release said.
The deadline for filing income tax returns for the assessment year 2021-2022 has again been extended till March 15, 2022, the Union finance ministry announced on Tuesday. This time, the extension has been provided after considering the difficulties reported by taxpayers due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country and in e-filing of various reports of audit under the provision of the Income Tax Act, 1961, the ministry said in a statement.
“On consideration of difficulties reported by taxpayers/ stakeholders due to Covid & in e-filing of Audit reports for AY 2021-22 under the IT Act, 1961, CBDT further extends due dates for filing of Audit reports & ITRs for AY 21-22,” the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said. However, the due date already expired on December 31, 2021 for individual and other taxpayers and the extension does not apply to them, according to a report by business publication Livemint. social, educational, cultural and religious events.At events being held in closed places, the attendance has been capped at 50 per cent of the capacity of the venue, not exceeding 150. Agency News: New Delhi Global forecasting firm Oxford Economics on Tuesday revised India’s GDP (gross domestic product) growth forecast to 7.9 per cent from earlier 7.8 per cent for the current financial year 2021-22 (FY22), citing more durable recovery and higher Covid-19 vaccination rates.Oxford Economics said, “We expect far less economic damage from the current outbreak compared to the first two waves of infections as the economy has adjusted to being more resilient to Covidrelated disruptions.”“The sharp increase in India’s Covid-19 cases has caused us to become more cautious about the Q1 (first quarter) outlook. We also look for a more durable recovery from Q2 (second quarter) onwards, when we expect more than 80 per cent of the population will be fully vaccinated,” the global forecasting firm added.As per the government estimates, India could grow at 9.2 per cent in FY22 compared to a contraction of 7.3 per cent.

Election Commission has sounded the poll bugle for Assembly elections to Uttar Pradesh,Goa, Punjab, Manipur, and Uttarakhand. BJP is ruling in four of the five states except forPunjab. IN Goa and Manipur, though Congress emerged as the single largest party, the BJPmanaged to form the government by dividing the other parties in 2017.A total of 18.34 crore electors, out of which 8.55 crore are women electors, and 24.9 lakhfirst-time electors will participate in the five states, including Uttar Pradesh.
