Bangladesh tightens security ahead of expected execution Agency : DHAKA Authorities in Bangladesh heightened security in the capital and elsewhere Saturday ahead of the expected execution of an Islamist party official sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during the country’s 1971 independence war against Pakistan. Mohammad Qamaruzzaman, an assistant secretary general of Jamaate-Islami, refused to seek presidential clemency, paving the way for him to become the second person put to death since tribunals were set up more than four years ago to try suspected war criminals. Junior Home Minister Asaduzzman Khan told reporters that Qamaruzzaman would be hanged on Saturday. Qamaruzzaman’s family members visited him for the

last time in Dhaka’s Central Jail, with security tight outside the facility, his lawyer Shishir Manir said. By Saturday evening, the concerned officials to execute Qamaruzzaman had entered the jail, a senior prison official told The Associated Press by phone on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. TV stations reported that a grave had already been dug in Qamaruzzaman’s ancestral

home outside Dhaka, the capital. On Monday, Bangladesh’s Supreme Court rejected Qamaruzzaman’s final legal appeal against the death sentence given to him by a special tribunal in May 2013. His only recourse would have been to seek a presidential pardon. Bangladesh executed another Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary,Abdul Quader Mollah, in December 2013 for similar crimes.

Sugata Bose and the two houses under surveillance One of the two houses that were under surveillance for over two decades according to some files of Intelligence Bureau that had been declassified and kept at the national archive now lies in the heart of Kolkata. This is also the house from where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had made his great escape in 1941. “In life immortal, this is the technique of the soul. The individual must die, so that India may live and may win freedom and glory….” reads an epithet from the writings of Subhas Chandra Bose at the entrance of 38-2 Elgin Road – “Netaji Bhawan”. Next to it is another marble plaque on which is etched another writing of Netaji that reads: “In this mortal world, everything perishes and will perish – but ideas and ideals and dreams do not. One individual may die for an idea but that idea will, after his death incarnate itself in a thousand lives….” Talking to the Sunday Express, Dr Sugata Bose – a historian and a Netaji kin responded to the latest controversy recounting how his father Dr Sisir Bose was able to dodge past at least 14 intelligence officials posted at the house at that time under the British rule and drove Netaji dressed and disguised in a pathan suit out of that house. Dr Sisir Bose reached Netaji Subhas Bose to Gomoh railway station from where he disappeared. Dr Bose goes to add: “But that was during the British rule. What is most shocking about the current revelation is that the snooping continued even after 15th August, 1947. Probably the Indian Intelligence officials had forgotten the relevance of that date and the fact that India had won its freedom by then.” It is equally shocking that in Bengal was a Congress government then under Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy and the snooping could not have continued without the knowledge of the Bengal government,” said Bose. It was the Intelligence Bureau located at Lord Sinha Road that was responsible for the snooping and Elgin Road post office was the place where the letters of the family used to be monitored and intercepted, said Bose. The Harvard professor of history and now a Trinamool Congress MP, Dr. Bose wondered if the spying has stopped now. “if it could have continued until 1968, then what stopped it?” he asks. “Did it stop at all? Who knows that even now our e-mails are not monitored, telephones not bugged? These should not have happened. This was an encroachment on privacy and most of all there was no security threat involved in mounting such a surveillance on our family,” he said. Asked about the “political challenge” that Netaji’s return might have posed to the then leaders which might have been a reason to snoop, Dr Bose said: “The motive is not clear regarding this snooping affair. There is also no evidence to suggest that it was ordered by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. There is no direct link to suggest that,” said Bose. The Bose family had an intimate relation with the Nehru family, said Bose and narrated how Nehru used to invite Subhas Chandra Bose for breakfast when he used to visit Delhi and often invited him to attend the parliament sessions.

Each time you ask any of them and they will have their usual answer ready. We're tired of listening to the same cliched 'We're just good friends' answer all the time. At a recent event, where Shraddha Kapoor launched a four storey replica of Eiffel Tower in the city, the actress was quizzed by the press. when the media asked her who she would love to visit Paris with, she did not give the obvious answer and we're not surprised anymore. "I would love to go to Paris with Priyanka Chopra. I have admired her for the longest time and it will be the most amazing

Ek Paheli Leela Movie Review

Kangana Ranaut works around the clock

Agency : New Delhi Kangana Ranaut who recently bagged the National Award for Best Actress is all set to impress in yet another game changing performance or should we say two ,with Aanand L. The actress who is currently shooting for the quirky romantic entertainer in the city, is essaying two roles simultaneously - that of Tanu and Datto, a Haryanvi athlete. Agency : New Delhi London-based model Mira (Sunny Leone) comes to India on an assignment. She falls in love with a prince in Jaisalmer and gets married to him. Meanwhile, a budding musician Karan (Jay Bhanushali) is getting persistent nightmares after hearing an old Rajasthani

folk tune and keeps muttering the name Leela in sleep. How is Mira related to Leela? This one is more than just a reincarnation tale. The tendency of not taking a Sunny Leone film seriously is going to change. Ek Paheli Leela might not be a cinematic treat but its tricky climax Emakes it

watchable. With a solid story in place, this vivaciously shot reincarnation drama is plotted carefully with its loose-ends knotting up into a thrilling end. Unlike the usual fare that compliment the actress' bold persona, the forte of this film sprawls beyond its scintillating bits. It starts on a droopy note and meanders initially but once the parallel stories merge, it advances smoothly towards the jolt of its unexpected climax. What dampens the strength of the plot are its sexual innuendos and the needless songs that keep popping in frequently without adding much. There are nine songs forced into the package which water down the film's punch. The story shifts briskly between the present and the past without seeming too disparate. With its runtime of over two hours, the film gets tedious, something that could have been easily rectified by sharper editing.

Agency : New Delhi After training Madhuri Dixit in Sanjay leela Bhansali’s Devdas, Pandit Birju Maharaj, the leading paragon of the classical dance in India is training Deepika Padukone for Mastani role. "I will choreograph Deepika in a solo act which is a more contemporary adaptation of one of my own performances set on an Avadhi Brijwasi thumri, Balma re chunaria maiko lal. There's a lot of lal rang in the song with Deepika dressed in fiery red, her head demurely covered by a ghoonghat but

her eyes flashing fire" says the maestro, Birju Maharaj. According to report, Deepika, who is already trained Bharatanatyam and Kathak dance, has been training with Pandit Birju Maharaj as she portrays the

role of Mastani, who was a court dancer. Since the movie is based on century old historic epic drama, it is crucial to establish authenticity in dance form. She has been practicing for 2 hours a day with Birju Maharaj.

SPORTS ROUNDUP IPL 2015

IPL 2015: Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Dare Devils Key Clashes Agency : DUBLIN Facebook Inc. admitted it has tracked those without an account, but added the actions were accidental and not a breach of European Union privacy laws. A statement by Richard Allen, European vice president of the U.S.-headquartered company, said a report by the Belgian government's data protection agency found breaches in EU privacy laws. "The researchers did find a bug that may have sent cookies (code stored in web browsers) to some people when they weren't on Facebook,"

Allen said. "This was not our intention. A fix for this is already underway." Belgium is among EU countries investigating Facebook's privacy practices. A proposed EU law would fine companies up to five percent of their annual revenue or 100 million Euros ($101.5 million) for violating personal data regulations. Researchers said Facebook gave users a "false sense of control" over their information, and were denied a "meaningful choice" in deciding how their data was collected and used for advertising purposes.

Chris Gayle (RCB) and Morne Morkel (KKR) are the two star players to watch out for in this game. The big-hitting Gayle has a reputation for ripping opposition bowling to shreds in at least T-20 cricket, and a lot will depend on him if RCB are to surge past the gold brigade. Morkel on the other hand finished with impressive figures of 2 for 18 against Mumbai, which earned him the Man-of-the-Match award.

Union gropes for reasons in stench of failed strike Sunvilla News, Ahmedabad

The debilitating civic strike was finally called off late on Thursday evening. More than 16,000 striking municipal class-3 and class-4 employees will resume duty on Friday. But for some mysterious reasons, the union —the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Servants Association (AMC-SA) — which is not a recognized municipal union, could place their 13 demands only on Friday, when the strike was being called off. Normally, demands are placed before a strike call is given. The reason cited for the strike has been the assault on an LG staff member by a patient a few days ago, and the AMC's delay in lodging a criminal complaint. The union's president, Zahir Khan, and general secretary, Harish Makwana, have been dodging specific

queries on why the entire hospital staff as well as AMTS employees and sanitary workers had launched the stir. Over the past two days, municipal transport properties worth Rs 25 lakh were damaged; 100 patients who were in a serious condition at VS and LG hospitals had to be moved to Civil; and 145 emergency surgeries had to be postponed. Moreover, 5.15 lakh people were hit by the unavailability of public transport and five zones of the city had accumulated more than 7,000 tonnes of garbage. All for a strike call given by a union which took three days to formulate their own demands! Neither the AMC officers nor the employees' union engaged in any negotiations. "The authorities were taking time to lodge a criminal complaint against the patient's family," said Makwana.
