One individual may die for an idea but that idea will, after his death incarnate itself in a thousand lives….” Talking to the Sunday Express, Dr Sugata Bose – a historian and a Netaji kin responded to the latest controversy recounting how his father Dr Sisir Bose was able to dodge past at least 14 intelligence officials posted at the house at that time under the British rule and drove Netaji dressed and disguised in a pathan suit out of that house. Dr Sisir Bose reached Netaji Subhas Bose to Gomoh railway station from where he disappeared. Dr Bose goes to add: “But that was during the British rule. What is most shocking about the current revelation is that the snooping continued even after 15th August, 1947. Probably the Indian Intelligence officials had forgotten the relevance of that date and the fact that India had won its freedom by then.” It is equally shocking that in Bengal was a Congress government then under Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy and the snooping could not have continued without the knowledge of the Bengal government,” said Bose. This was an encroachment on privacy and most of all there was no security threat involved in mounting such a surveillance on our family,” he said. Asked about the “political challenge” that Netaji’s return might have posed to the then leaders which might have been a reason to snoop, Dr Bose said: “The motive is not clear regarding this snooping affair. There is also no evidence to suggest that it was ordered by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. There is no direct link to suggest that,” said Bose. The Bose family had an intimate relation with the Nehru family, said Bose and narrated how Nehru used to invite Subhas Chandra Bose for breakfast when he used to visit Delhi and often invited him to attend the parliament sessions.

The debilitating civic strike was finally called off late on Thursday evening. More than 16,000 striking municipal class-3 and class-4 employees will resume duty on Friday. But for some mysterious reasons, the union —the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Servants Association (AMC-SA) — which is not a recognized municipal union, could place their 13 demands only on Friday, when the strike was being called off. Normally, demands are placed before a strike call is given. The reason cited for the strike has been the assault on an LG staff member by a patient a few days ago, and the AMC's delay in lodging a criminal complaint. The union's president, Zahir Khan, and general secretary, Harish Makwana, have been dodging specific
queries on why the entire hospital staff as well as AMTS employees and sanitary workers had launched the stir. Over the past two days, municipal transport properties worth Rs 25 lakh were damaged; 100 patients who were in a serious condition at VS and LG hospitals had to be moved to Civil; and 145 emergency surgeries had to be postponed. Navrangpura police on Saturday arrested co-owner of an immigration consultancy firm for duping 22 aspirants for over Rs 28 lakh. Police are searching for the second partner in the firm who is reported absconding for past three months. His family ran from pillar to post at LG Hospital but doctors turned a deaf ear to their requests, saying they cannot admit the patient till the nurse strike was on. The family rushed Hasmukh to VS Hospital but they had a harrowing time admitting him there. The doctors refused admission citing lack of space in the trauma ward. Finally they relented. But the 65year-old patient was not given any bed and was laid on a stretcher despite his deteriorating condition. In the general ward at VS, the poor health system could
make any heart sink. There the relatives were spotted changing the patients' urine bags as the staff was busy chatting in the corridor. The terrible stench from the toilets could be smelt till the far ends of the corridor. This was despite hospital superintendent Dr Sandeep Malhan claiming that they had outsourced 170 safai kamdaars from an agency. Nearly 500 safai kamdaars at VS government hospital were on strike till late Friday. In several wards at LG Hospital as well, on-call doctors were seen resting in air-conditioned rooms while patients suffered in the blistering heat outside. There 250 nurses and safai kamdaars had struck work.
