Imran Khan”: Pakistan Supreme Court Calls Arrest “Illegal”

Agency News: New Delhi

Imran Khan’s arrest by Pakistan’s top anti-corruption body is illegal and he should be released immediately, the country’s Supreme Court said today amid violent protests by supporters of the former Prime Minister who faces corruption allegations. Mr Khan is under the custody of the National Accountability Bureau. The order to bring Mr Khan, 70, to the Supreme Court was issued by a three-member bench of Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Athar Minallah. The Supreme Court, after hearing Mr Khan’s request for relief, strongly criticised the NAB for arresting the former Prime Minister from the Islamabad High Court’s premises, where he had come to appear in a case. The Supreme Court said Mr Khan should return to the Islamabad High Court at 10 am tomorrow and follow whatever the high court decides. Only 10 of his supporters will be allowed to

Chennai Super Kings move closer to playoffs by beating Delhi Capitals meet him, the Supreme Court said. Mr Khan has alleged he was tortured in the NAB custody and was not allowed to even use the washroom. The former cricketing superstar, who remains popular in Pakistan, alleged he was given an injection to induce a slow heart attack. Mr Khan’s arrest follows months of political crisis and came hours after the powerful military rebuked the former international cricketer for alleging that a senior officer had been involved in a plot to kill him. Some protesters took out their wrath on the military, torching the residence of the corps commander in Lahore and laying siege at the entrance to the army’s general headquarters in the garrison city of Rawalpindi. Pakistan politicians have frequently been arrested and jailed since the country’s founding in 1947, but few have so directly challenged a military that has staged at least three coups and had ruled for more than three decades.

Karnataka elections Exit polls give Congress an edge, 2018-like situation seems on the cards

Agency News: Bangalore

Exit polls have given the Congress an edge in the Karnataka elections, with most predicting a 2018-like situation where a hung Assembly had triggered a Congress-JDS deal for government formation. However, unlike in 2018, when the BJP had emerged as the single-largest party, the exit polls have largely predicted that the Congress could be at the head of the pack this time. While one survey each gave a simple majority to the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress, all others predicted a hung Assembly with the Congress winning the most number of seats. News NationCGS gave 114 seats to the BJP, two more than the halfway mark in the 224-member Assembly, 86 to the Congress, 21 to the Janata Dal Secular and three “others” who could be Independents or candidates from smaller parties. Times Now gave a simple majority to the Congress, predicting it would win 113 seats. This

White House defends invite to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for official state visit survey said the BJP could be way behind with 85 seats and the JDS 23, with three in the “others” category. Four of six other exit polls gave an edge to the Congress, which is seeking a return to power by capitalising on the anti-incumbency against the BJP government headed by Basavaraj Bommai and the allegations of widespread corruption. The remaining two exit polls predicted that the BJP could emerge as the single-largest party. All the exit polls have given the JDS just as many seats as it would take for it to emerge as the kingmaker like in 2018. Back then, the Congress had been the first off the blocks despite finishing second, clinching a post-poll alliance with the JDS by offering HD.

Mumbai Indians had no trouble chasing down the 200-run target set by RCB on Tuesday but captain

Rohit Sharma was again dismissed for 7 — his fifth single-digit score on the trot this IPL. Sanjay Bangar, the RCB batting coach, however, still backs the MI and India captain to come out of his current form ahead of next month’s WTC final in London. “He (Rohit) has been playing for such a long period of time and captaining in all formats for India and the franchisee as well, it does take an emotional toll,” Bangar told reporters at the post-match conference when asked about Rohit’s form.

“But he knows it, he has done it for such a long time. For the sake of Mumbai Indians and for the sake of Indian cricket, we just hope that he returns to his run-scoring normal routine.

“It is very important for us (India) that he fires and does really well in the World Test Championship final.”

Rohit has been enduring a second consecutive poor IPL season, as his average plummeted to 17.36 with just 191 runs to show from 11 matches so far. India take on Australia in the World Test Championship final at The Oval from June 7.

Suryakumar Yadav looked like playing “gully cricket” when he was “toying” with the Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers in their Indian Premier League match here, feels the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. Suryakumar smashed 83 runs off just 35 balls — his highest IPL score — in a stunning show of 360-degree hitting, to play a vital role in MI’s six-wicket win over RCB here on Tuesday. He hit seven fours and six sixes at a humongous strike rate of 237.14 as MI chased down the target of 200 with 21 balls to spare. “SKY was toying with the bowlers. He gives you a feeling of gully cricket when he’s batting like that. He’s just gotten better with practice and hard work,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports’ Cricket Live. He also said Suryakumar’s red-hot form rubbed off on youngster Nehal Wadhera (52 not out off 34 balls). The duo strung a partnership of 140 runs to put MI in control. “When you are batting with SKY your confidence is boosted, but the best thing about Wadhera’s innings was that he wasn’t looking to play shots like SKY. The best thing about him is that his balance was superb,” said Gavaskar.

Pointing out the atrocities committed by foreign invaders on India’s society for hundreds of years, the Prime Minister highlighted that the ancestors of the land did not allow their identity to be erased and their faith to be fragmented. “We are seeing the effect of sacrifices of centuries ago in the present generation of this successful society”, the Prime Minister said as he mentioned that the Kutch Kadwa Patidar community are moving forward with their labor and ability in sectors such as timber, plywood, hardware, marble, building material among others.
