Karnataka Police SI Recruitment ‘Scam’: ED Searches Premises of Jailed IPS Officer, Others Agency News: New Delhi The ED on Friday said it has searched the premises of jailed IPS officer Amrit Paul, some government officials and private persons in connection with a money laundering probe linked to the police sub-inspector recruitment “scam” in Karnataka in 2021.The federal investigative agency said the operation, undertaken on Thursday at 11 premises in Bengaluru and Patiala in Punjab.

Congress released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat on Thursday, which consisted of 46 candidates. The party had announced its first list on November 4, in which 43 candidates were announced. The party released its second list yesterday. The total number of candidates who have been announced rose to 89 out of the 182 candidates. The list of candidates released duly signed by Mukul Wasnik, party’s general secretary, includes Mamadbhai Jung Jat (Abdasa), Rajendersingh Jadeja (Mandvi), Arjanbhai Bhudia (Bhuj), Naushad Solanki (Dasada - SC), Kalpana Karamsibhai Makwana (Limbdi).

Four militant associates of Lashkar-e-Taiba, who were planning to plant improvised explosive devices to cause damage to security forces, have been arrested in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Friday. The police along with security forces arrested the four men and recovered incriminating materials, including explosive substances, from their possession. A police spokesman identified the accused as Karamat-ul-lah Reshi and Suhail Bashir Ganai, both residents of Chewa Uller Tral. Adil Ghani Lon, a resident of Karamulla
Tral; and Irshad Ahmed Kumar, a resident of Tral-e-Payeen, are the other two held in the case. During preliminary investigation, it was found that the militant associates were in touch with LeT terrorist commander Babar alias Samama. They were also planning to plant IEDs in Tral area with the intend to cause damage to police and security forces, the spokesman said. He added that they were also involved in transportation of arms and ammunition and other logistic support to active terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba.A case has been registered and further investigation has been set in motion, the spokesman added.
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Friday called out the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for its “double standard” on 10 percent reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS). In a press statement, former minister for Fisheries and senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar condemned DMK for playing a “double role” on 10 percent reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) of the general category. AIADMK leader said that the ten percent reservation law was “based on the recommendation” of a commission, which had been set
at the Centre. The BJP only implemented it in 2019, he added. Blaming the ruling DMK for deceit on the National Eligibilitycum-Entrance Test (NEET) issue, Jayakumar recalled how it had assured people at the time of the Assembly polls that it would secure, at one stroke, the exemption for Tamil Nadu candidates from the NEET to get admission to UG courses in medicine. The people of Tamil Nadu should understand this “hypocritical drama” of DMK that they are convening a meeting of leaders of legislature parties to be held on Saturday, he added. Jayakumar further stated that the ruling party had not consulted other parties during the pendency of litigation in the Supreme Court regarding the EWS reservation law. Man from Tamil Nadu Taking Part in Bharat Jodo Yatra Dies After Being Hit by Truck Agency News : New Delhi A 62-year-old man from Tamil Nadu died and another person from that state was injured after being hit by a truck in Maharashtra’s Nanded district when they were participating in the Congress’s ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra, a police official said on Friday. They were walking back to Pimpalgaon Mahadeo village in Ardhapur tehsil for the yatra’s night camp after attending Rahul Gandhi’s public rally in Nanded on Thursday when the accident occurred around 8.20 pm, he said. Rahul Gandhi expressed grief over the incident, saying a “true soldier of the party and a beloved companion on the Bharat Jodo Yatra” has been lost. The accident took place under the jurisdiction of Ardhapur police station limits, he said. “A truck hit two participants of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, when they were returning to Pimpalgaon Mahadeo camp of the yatra after attending Rahul Gandhi’s rally,” the official from Ardhapur police station said. The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which arrived in Maharashtra on November 7, has entered its 65th day. After Nanded, the yatra will go to neighbouring Hingoli district.

Polls on November 1 gave Netanyahu and his farright allies a clear majority in parliament, sealing the veteran leader’s return to power after a period of unprecedented political gridlock that forced five elections in less than four years. Sixty-four representatives from Israel’s 120seat legislature recommended that President Isaac Herzog appoint Netanyahu, a statement said Friday. The former premier has been summoned “to accept the task of forming the government from the president on Sunday”, it added. Netanyahu will have 28 days to form a cabinet, with a 14-day extension available if required. His right-wing Likud party and its allies — two ultraOrthodox Jewish parties and the extreme-right Religious Zionism bloc — won 64 seats in the Knesset, giving Netanyahu the majority to form a stable governing
coalition, which may also be the most right-wing in Israeli history. Netanyahu led Israel from 1996 to 1999 and then again from 2009 to 2021 in a record tenure in office. The 73-year-old remains on trial over corruption allegations, which he denies. The presidency statement said 28 lawmakers had recommended Herzog tap Netanyahu’s centrist rival, outgoing premier Yair Lapid, while 28 others abstained. Four parties, including Mansour Abbas’s Islamist Raam, which made history by supporting Lapid’s coalition government following elections last year, refused to recommend any candidate for the premiership. Netanyahu will likely have to juggle demands from his extreme-right allies for policy commitments and cabinet posts, but is not expected to face insurmountable challenges during the coalition negotiations.
‘Shivling’ at Gyanvapi: Supreme Court Indefinitely Extends Interim Protection Orders of Area
Agency News : New Delhi The Supreme Court on Friday extended indefinitely the interim protection for the area where a “Shivling” was found at the disputed site of Gyanvapi in Varanasi. A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, and Justices Surya Kant and PS Narasimha further allowed the Hindu parties to approach the Varanasi district judge for consolidation of the lawsuits which had been filed concerning the Gyanvapi disputes. The Supreme Court has also directed the Hindu parties to file their replies within three weeks on the appeal by the management committee of the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid, which
has challenged the Allahabad high court order appointing a commissioner to carry out a survey at the site. On Thursday, advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain had mentioned the instant issue before the Chief Justice of India-led bench for an urgent hearing, because the earlier order dated May 17, granting interim protection for eight weeks to the area and the “Shivling”, was to expire on November 12. Jain submitted before the court that the area needed to remain protected and this would call for an order extending the protection order. The top court allowed the request and proceeded to list the case for Friday and passed an extension order of protection.

The 28-year-old Patel, who was the face of the 2015 Patidar quota agitation in Gujarat, had earlier been a staunch critic of the BJP. Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Patel joined the Congress and was later appointed as the working president of the party’s state unit. However,
he resigned in May this year, saying that he was being sidelined in the party, and was not given any responsibility. In other notable leaders, chief minister Bhupendra Patel will contest the elections from the Ghatlodia constituency. Those fighting for freedom in polities where freedom is restricted would undoubtedly be inspired by symbolic support from the sports fraternity. This is where global sporting competitions become important. A cry against injustice, be it from player - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara or citizen, is equally important.

Actor Jacqueline Fernandez’s Pre-Arrest Bail Extended Till Tuesday Agency News : New Delhi A Delhi court on Friday extended the temporary bail granted to actor Jacqueline Fernandez in the ₹ 200 crore money laundering case involving conman Sukesh Chandrashekar till Tuesday. Special Judge Shailendra Malik, who had earlier granted the pre-arrest protection to Ms Fernandez, said the order was not ready, adding that the court will deliver its order on Tuesday. The court on Thursday reserved order after hearing arguments from the lawyers appearing for the actor as well as the Enforcement Directorate.During the arguments, on Enforcement Directorate’s submission that Ms Fernandez can escape the country easily as she is not short of money, the court had questioned why the actor was not arrested
so far.The agency had told the court that it has issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) on airports to stop the actor from leaving the country. “Why haven’t you (ED) arrested Jacqueline yet during the investigation, despite issuing an LOC? Other accused are in jail. Why adopt a pick-and-choose policy,” the court had asked the probe agency. Ms Fernandez has sought bail on the ground that there was no need for her custody since the investigation is already complete and the charge sheet has been filed.The court had on September 26 granted interim bail to her on a personal bond of ₹ 50,000.

Private equity fund General Atlantic has invested USD 100 million in Amagi, valuing the media technology platform at USD 1.4 billion. The infusion in the Bengaluru-based company includes USD 80 million in primary issuance, a statement said, adding this will be primarily deployed for growth purposes. The company had last raised capital in March 2022 at a valuation of USD 1 billion from a clutch of investors including Accel, Norwest Venture Partners
and Avataar Ventures. In the past, it has also raised capital from Premji Invest and Nadathur Holdings. It has crossed the USD 100 million annual revenue rate mark in the JulySeptember quarter, the statement said, adding that General Atlantic’s investment requires regulatory nods. The latest fund raise will be utilised for strengthening the support infrastructure for customers and invest in AI-driven personalisation.

The Rebuild India Fund is set to introduce its first cohort of 23 locally-led and community rooted grassroots NGOs at a Capacity Building Workshop in Ahmedabad from 8-11th November. Community- based NGOs have the greatest proximity to vulnerable communities and play a critical role in India’s development; however, have been hit the hardest due to the pandemic. 61% of the cohort NGOs are women-led, while 52% are led by ‘proximate’ leaders, with lived experiences, belonging to communities they serve. All other NGOs are led by ‘inclusive’ leaders from neglected and marginalized communities based on caste and gender. Commenting on the occasion, Deval Sanghavi, Co-founder & Partner at Dasra, said ‘With the Rebuild India Fund, we recognise and are working to address, the urgent need for building resilience of India’s grassroots NGOs through longterm, flexible, trust-based funding. This will be key to ensuring continued support to India’s most
marginalised and vulnerable communities. The Capacity Building Workshop which will be hosted in Ahmedabad will play a critical role in building the institutional capacity of NGO leaders who work with marginalized communities in India. The 4-day workshop will include curated sessions on fundraising, organizational leadership, compliance, needs assessment, impact assessment and reporting, thought leadership, and climate change. Post the Capacity Building Workshop, Rebuild India Fund in partnership with Social Venture Partners (SVP) will co- host an informal gathering in Ahmedabad on 10th November for funders and the selected NGO leaders.
