Kerala records 76 Omicron cases, highestever single-day spike Kerala’s cumulative count of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 climbed to 421 on Wednesday after 76 new cases were reported, the highest single-day spike in the state so far. patients in Kerala were found to be infected with the ‘variant of concern’ while 23 cases were reported on Sunday. More than 140 patients have recovered from Omicron in Kerala till now. Kerala is the fifth worst-hit state from Omicron after Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Delhi and Karnataka. However, the US Navy shared extensive data of the ski jump trials with the Indian Navy. Congress Still Favourite In Punjab But Farmers Votes Will Be Crucial
BKU (Ugrahan), Punjab's biggest farmers union, will not support any political party in the fastapproaching assembly elections, which means the Congress cannot crow about aggrievedfarmers en bloc dumping the BJP and en masse voting for the Congress. Kerala reports 76 new Omicron cases, tally rises to 421 Agency News: Thiruvananthapuram Kerala on Wednesday reported 76 new Covid-19 cases due to the Omicron variant. Besides, an Omicron cluster has emerged in Pathanamthitta district, said Health Minister Veena George. The minister said the cluster has been reported at a private nursing college where students were believed to have got infected from a person who had recently come from abroad. Of the 76 new cases confirmed, 59 had travelled from low-risk countries, seven from high-risk countries and nine infected through contact.So far, 421 Omicron cases have been reported in Kerala while 290 of them are people.

The CBI has told the Supreme Court that there appears to be an “attempt to meddle…and jeorpardise” its investigation into allegations of corruption against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. In an affidavit filed in the top court, the CBI, which took up the probe following a Bombay High Court order, referred to SC’s November 22 order that referred to exchanges between former Mumbai Police commissioner Parambir Singh and his successor, Sanjay Pandey. Bogus bills worth Rs 285 cr unearthed from scrap traders In state-wide searches carried out against scrap traders in Gujarat, the State Goods and Service Tax (SGST) department has unearthed a bogus billing racket worth Rs 285 crore.The department had searched 30 locations which included 10 in Bhavnagar, 12 in Rajkot, seven in Surat and one in Ahmedabad. After going through the accounts, digital data and details of purchase and sale seized during the searches, the department found 17 traders involved in the racket. Officials from SGST department said the searches were carried out from January 7 to 11.Till now, the depart tment has found bogus bills worth Rs 285 crore in which Rs 53 crore worth of input tax credit has been passed on to certain beneficiaries.

Pay compensation to man injured in 1992 riots: Court to Gujarat govt Sunvilla News: Ahmedabad An Ahmedabad civil court directed the Gujarat government to pay compensation to a person who was injured in the 1992 riots, more than 25 years after he filed a civil suit claiming compensation.The state government was directed to pay Rs 49,000 along with simple interest at the rate of six per cent per annum computed for 25 years as compensation to one Manish Chauhan who
was injured after being fired at by some miscreants on July 5, 1992, in the aftermath of communal riots that broke out after a Rath Yatra event. In a verdict dated December 30, the court noted that Chauhan was injured in a firing by miscreants which was an offshoot of communal tension showing “lack of requisite patrolling and security” on the part of state.The civil suit filed by Chauhan in 1996 claimed that he and his brother-in-law
were returning home at around 10 pm from VS Hospital where his mother was admitted, when two persons came on a scooter and opened fire near Ashram road, leaving Chauhan and his brother-in-law grievously injured.Chauhan, aged 18 years in 1992, was admitted at the VS hospital for 10 days. Chauhan submitted that one bullet hit his waist and another hit his chest, rendering him incapable of doing physical labour, reducing.
