CBSE : 93.12% of class 10 and 87.33% of class 12 result

Agency News: New Delhi

The overall percentage of students who cleared the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 examination this year decreased by 5.38% when compared to last year’s pass percentage. But, since this year exams were conducted in the annual mode for the first time since 2019, the pre-pandemic year, the pass percentage has actually surged by 3.93%, according to the results declared on Friday forenoon at cbse. gov.in. According to CBSE officials, this year, the overall pass percentage in Class 12 results is 87.33%, which betters the pass percentage of 83.40% of 2019, the pre-Covid year. In 2022, the overall pass percentage was 92.71%. Explaining the dip in pass percentage from last year and the surge in the same when compared to 2019, CBSE Controller of Examinations

Yuzvendra Chahal’s 4/25 against Kolkata Knight Riders earned him the tag of highest wicket-taker in IPL - 187 scalps.

Agency News: kolkata

‘Chahal TV’ and its gimmicks on the BCCI’s social media handles perhaps gather more hits than his bowling. On Thursday, Yuzvendra Chahal’s 4/25 against Kolkata Knight

Riders fetched him the tag of IPL’s highest wicket-taker 187 scalps. The first wicket of Nitish Rana saw him overtake Dwayne Bravo’s 183. This was also the seventh time he has taken four or more wickets in an IPL match. Having lived under

the shadows of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the national team, Chahal has never really got the recognition he deserved. The wrist-spinner didn’t play a match in India’s failed campaign in the T20 World Cup in Australia when his presence could have made a difference. But the slightly built Chahal has never lacked the spark or big-match temperament. Consider this piece of statistics of all the spinners who have taken 100 or more wickets in the IPL.

Ricky Ponting points out reason for loss against Chennai Super Kings

Agency News: Chennai

Few things have gone right for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing edition of the IPL.

On Wednesday, they crashed to their seventh defeat of the season when they fell 27 short while chasing a 168run target against the Chennai Super Kings. Among other things, Delhi head coach Ricky Ponting thinks that the fact that they have lost wickets in the first over of the game several times this season has hurt them badly. “I think that is the fifth, sixth, maybe seventh time this season where we have lost a wicket in the first over of the game. On one occasion we lost two wickets in the first over of the game. That is clearly an area that we haven’t got right...is pretty obvious where the game was lost,” the former Australia

captain said. Delhi lost skipper David Warner off the very second ball on Wednesday.

Ponting also pointed out the reason for their loss against the Super Kings even though they weren’t chasing a tall target.

“We lost two early, then we lost three early and then the spinners came on...we didn’t show any urgency against the spinners.”

years, it is only right that the results are compared with that of 2019. “This year is a replica of 2019. So we have to make the right comparison, which is clear that results have bettered since.

Last year, the pass percentage was high because exams were conducted in two terms,” said Bhardwaj. Both in 2020 and 2021, exams either could not be held or had to be cancelled midway due to the intensity of the Covid-19. waves and instead an alternative assessment

mechanism was used. Classes were not held, there were learning gaps due to long Covid-induced lockdowns. “So, this is the year when students had the full opportunity to prepare. Students worked hard and performed well while credit also goes to schools, who made all efforts to make up for the learning losses that occurred over the past three years,” he said. Rajasthan Royals keep Kolkata Knight Riders in check at Eden Gardens

As ‘The Kerala Story’ continues to be a part of political discourse, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath watched the film at a “special screening” along with his cabinet members at the Lok Bhavan in Lucknow on Friday. Taking to Twitter, the chief minister said, “watched the film ‘The Kerala Story’ at a special screening today with honourable members of my cabinet. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the people associated with this film!” Along with him, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, UP BJP president Bhupendra

Singh Chaudhary as well as school children were among those present for the screening of the film. After watching the film, UP Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh claimed that it was based on true events and it showed how teenage girls were lured and brainwashed into wrong things, news agency PTI said. “They are taken to other countries and it is impossible to return from there. They are tortured over there and are forced to work for terrorist organisations,” he said. Before him, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also watched the film with his cabinet colleagues and his family members.

Inconsistency has been a problem for Venkatesh Iyer this IPL. Since that century against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede, his highest score in his six innings since was only 31. At the Eden on Thursday against Rajasthan Royals, the left-hander batter top-scored for the Kolkata Knight Riders with 57 (off 42 balls), but was scratchy at the same time, especially at the start of his innings which affected skipper Nitish Rana’s flow in particular. Iyer then departed at a time his team needed him to stay out there in the middle. A rescue act

from Andre Russell and Rinku Singh, the Knights’ saviours in their previous game against Punjab Kings, didn’t happen on this occasion as all that KKR could manage was a modest 149/8 after the Royals won the toss and opted to bowl. On a dry Eden pitch, the Royals’ decision to bowl first did come as a surprise. More so, as the Knight Riders bowling attack comprise spinners who would fancy their chances bowling on such a track. The Royals bowlers, however, backed up the team decision, not letting the KKR batters blaze away while taking wickets at regular intervals.

Amid the possibility of a hung Assembly looming large over Karnataka, the former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal (Secular) has claimed that both the national parties BJP and Congress have to come to his doors after the elections for the post-poll alliance. Several pollsters have predicted that the Congress may have an edge in Karnataka in a hung assembly, with JD(S) emerging as a “kingmaker” by winning around 30 seats. Hopeful of the prospect, sources in JD(S) said that party leader and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy is now not only going to be

the ‘kingmaker’, but is also set to become the ‘king’. JD(S) national spokesperson Tanveer Ahmad said that both national parties - Congress and BJP - are “trying to reach out” to his party for forging a post-poll alliance.

“Both the national parties are definitely trying to reach out to us… We will take a decision at an appropriate time. Right now, I can tell you that we will take a decision for the betterment of Karnataka,” Ahmad told IANS. As per sources said, after getting reports from the party workers on ground, Kumaraswamy boarded a flight to Singapore and is handling the negotiations from there with the national parties.

Passing through the lanes and bylanes of the interior city, Additional Director General of Police (Kashmir Range) Vijay Kumar reached a checkpost at Panthachowk, an area always bustling with traffic as it forms part of the National Highway connecting the Valley with the rest of the country. A 1997-batch IPS officer, Kumar took out time to

Kumar, who was accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Balwal, found out about the difficulties of the personnel besides guiding them in performing their job in pressing circumstances. “This is a high-pressure job but, in the end, we have to be 100 per cent alert. Any failure can prove costly,” Kumar told the police personnel on duty. “Generally, we have a naka (checkpost) for 365 days but whenever an important event happens, every one of us is on the roads to ensure that people sleep peacefully.

Adani-Hindenburg row Supreme Court hints at granting 3 more months to SEBI to wrap up probe, proposes to list PILs on May 15

The CBI on Friday conducted searches at the premises of former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede after filing an FIR against him and four others for allegedly seeking Rs 25 crore bribe for not framing Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in the drugs-on-cruise case, officials said. Aryan Khan was arrested in an alleged drug bust case on the Cordelia cruise ship on October 2, 2021, they said. The NCB, which had filed a chargesheet in the drugs-on-cruise

case, gave a clean chit to Aryan Khan, while an SIT set up by the anti-drugs agency claimed the probe led by Wankhede had lapses. They said the searches were spread across 29 locations across Mumbai, Delhi, Ranchi and Kanpur. It is alleged that IRS officer Wankhede and others had allegedly demanded Rs 25 crore bribe for not framing Aryan Khan in the alleged drug bust, they said.

The Supreme Court said on Friday it may consider granting three more months to SEBI for concluding its probe into the allegations of stock price manipulation by the Adani group and lapses in regulatory disclosure, and listed a batch of PILs and plea by the market regulator on May 15.

A bench of Chief Justices DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala said the court registry has received the report of the apex court-appointed Justice (retd) AM Sapre committee on the issue and would like to hear the matter on Monday after perusing the findings of the panel. “We will go through the report in the meantime. We will take up the matter

on May 15,” the bench said. During the hearing, the bench told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for SEBI, that it may grant the market regulator three months instead of six it has sought to wrap up the probe into allegations of stock manipulation. Cautioning a lawyer, appearing for petitioner Jaya Thakur, it said this court has said nothing about any regulatory failure on the part of SEBI. “Be careful when you make allegations. This may affect the sentiments in the stock market.

36 nursing students punished for not listening to Prime Minister Modi’s Mann Ki Baat Thirty-six nursing students were barred for a week from stepping out of their hostel after classes in the evening because they had failed to show up for an official gathering to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 100th Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast on April 30. The National Institute of Nursing Education, part of the central government-run Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, issued the punishment order on May 3. Thirty-six nursing students were barred for a week from stepping out of their hostel after classes in the evening because they had failed to show up for an official gathering to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 100th Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast on April 30. The National Institute of Nursing Education, part of the central government-run Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, issued the punishment order on May 3. The institute had earlier declared that attending the programme was “compulsory” for first-year and third-year students. The hostel warden had warned the students that their “outing would be cancelled” if they defied the instruction. But eight first-year students and 28 third-year students did not turn up. Saryu D. Madra, consultant (media) at the PGIMER, played the punishment down. “It’s a regular kind of thing,” Madra told The Telegraph, without elaborating if this meant that such punishments were routine at the institute. Asked who had taken the decision to punish the students, Madra said: “It’s the principal’s prerogative.” She did not take any further questions. Principal Sukhpal Kaur did not wish to comment. “Speak to the PRO and the director, you’ll get the correct information,” she said. The PGIMER director, Dr Vivek Lal, asked this newspaper to contact the deputy director (administration), Kumar Gaurav Dhawan. Dhawan did not respond to calls to his mobile number. On Thursday evening, the PGIMER issued a clarification “regarding banning the outing of nursing students after classes in evening due to non-attending the ‘Mann Kee (sic) Baat’ programme”. “Since some of the students did not share any reason for not attending the session and abstained from the event arranged for them in a lecture theatre, the college authorities took action against them,” it said. “Though it was little over-reaction on the part of the college authorities and the concerned have already been conveyed the displeasure of PGIMER administration.” The clarification asked that the matter “not be given any other connotation or blown out of proportion”.

The ruling Shiv Sena in Maharashtra on Friday hit back at rival camp leader Uddhav Thackeray for seeking Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s resignation post the Supreme Court ruling on the 2022 political crisis, and said if any morality is left in him, the MLAs loyal to him should quit and face fresh polls. The Shinde-led party fielded a battery of leaders, including the CM’s son, at a news conference here, held a day after the Supreme Court verdict, and attacked the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray). The Shiv Sena asked wasn’t breaking the pre-poll alliance under which Thackeray sought

Things were looking bright for him and the fans at Wankhede were also enjoying his batting but a magic delivery from Rashid Khan ended his stay in the middle. It was right after the powerplay and Rashid bowled a leg break which Rohit failed to read and edged.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will face off in match number 58 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday. LSG, having lost two of their last three matches, will take a huge step forward if they happen to get past Aiden Markram’s team, which is languishing in ninth place in the 10-team table. The Krunal Pandya-led team is currently fifth with 11 points and is very much there in the play-off mix. However, on an Uppal track that has produced middling team totals, the role of

spinners will be paramount, and that’s where Bishnoi, veteran ‘Impact Sub’ Amit Mishra and skipper Krunal himself come into the picture. The spin troika will have its task cut out against a Hyderabad line-up whose batting will be dependant on their three overseas recruits — Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and Glenn Phillips.

Gujarat Titans Skipper Hardik Pandya Wins Toss, Elects to Bowl Against Mumbai Indians

Agency News : Mumbai

Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

It’s a homecoming for Hardik as he will return to the stadium, where he rose to stardom and become a household name in India. Hardik made his IPL debut in 2015 for Mumbai Indians and spend 7 years there before joining Gujarat last season. The defending champions have been playing dominant cricket once again this season and are currently placed at the top spot in the points

table. While hosts Mumbai Indians are holding the fourth position. Gujarat didn’t hamper the winning combination and

played with the same line-up as Shubman Gill is expected to come as Impact Player in second innings. GT skipper

Hardik said that it will be ideal to chase at Wankhede Stadium and dew will have an impact which is why he chose to bowl first. “We will bowl first. Looks like a good wicket, dew could have an effect, so chasing could be ideal. We realise the importance of every game, just need to stick to our plans and play good cricket. It’s important to learn the lessons from your losses, rectify and don’t repeat it. You do make mistakes in such a long tournament. God has been kind with our injuries. Same XI tonight,” Hardik said at the toss. Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit said that the injury crisis in the camp has hampered their season a bit.

The finance ministry has lowered the B2B e-invoicing threshold to Rs 5 crore from Rs 10 crore with effect from August 1. Tax analysts said the gradual reduction in the threshold has contributed to higher GST collections. However, businesses would have to modify their supply and distribution activities to ensure compliance with the rule. The finance ministry on Wednesday notified the reduction in the threshold.

Shashi Mathews, partner IndusLaw, said: “A larger base of assesses will now be required

to comply with the e-invoicing requirements. It is understood that the government has plans to further reduce it to Rs 1 crore. Failure to comply would mean that the underlying supply has been made without an invoice

Inflow in equity mutual funds plunged by 68 per cent to Rs 6,480 crore in April over the preceding month, as investors took a “wait and watch” approach in allocating additional investments to the category. However, this was also the 26th consecutive month of inflow in the equity class, which was primarily driven by fund infusion in small-cap and mid-cap categories, data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi) showed on Thursday.

Overall, the 42-player mutual fund industry witnessed a sharp turnaround in April as it attracted Rs 1.21 lakh crore, on huge contributions from debt-

Katrina Kaif REFUSED To Do Malliswari For Rs 25 Lakh; Suresh Babu Revealed ‘She Wasn’t Even A Star’

Agency News : Mumbai

Did you know that Bollywood star Katrina Kaif had almost rejected her Telugu debut film Malliswari in which she starred alongside Venkatesh Daggubati? Well, an old video of Malliswari producer D Suresh Babu talking about the infamous fiasco has emerged on social media. Malliswari was released in 2004. It was Katrina Kaif’s second film in her career. In the video, shared on Reddit, Suresh Babu revealed that he had signed an

agreement with Katrina for Rs 25 lakh, but she later refused to do the film. “My director had to look for other options, but I wasn’t convinced with them. So, I had to ask her once again. She said, she’d only act in the film if I pay her Rs 65 lakhs. And, she was not even a star. She was like, ‘give me Rs 65 lakh otherwise I won’t work.’” Babu further recalled how he had to go “against my principles” by roping in Katrina for the movie. “I have a signed agreement but still she is asking me for more money.

If I don’t cater to her demands the movie can’t be made. On that day, I called up Ashwini Dutt (Project K producer) and

told him, ‘Sir, I have become just like the other producers.’ I was very disappointed,” he added.

Advance tickets for the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone-starrer Pathaan have sold out in Bangladesh ahead of its release in theatres across the country today, according to reports in The Daily Star. “A total of 41 cinema halls will be screening Pathaan around the country, running 198 shows every day. Moreover, tickets for the first and second days are almost sold out already,” Anonno Mamun of Action-Cut Entertainment, the organisation bringing the spy action thriller to Bangladesh, told the daily. “The presence of e-tickets and the box office allow us to easily track how much the film is earning in real-time. Pathaan is getting a good response from the audience as the film’s

recognized under the GST laws.”

The government initially had a threshold of Rs 500 crore that has been lowered periodically to Rs 5 crore. Deloitte India partner leader indirect tax Mahesh Jaising said more MSMEs

would come under the rule. “For companies, e-invoicing is a boon rather than a bane as suppliers who are e-invoicing compliant result in proper flow of input tax credit and reduce the churn around credit issues,” Jaising said. AMRG & Associates senior partner Rajat Mohan said the phased implementation of e-invoicing has resulted in reduced disruptions, improved compliance and increased revenue. “Inclusion of MSME sector would benefit the ecosystem by reducing costs, rationalising errors, ensuring faster invoice processing and limiting commercial disputes.”
