Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Jagat Prakash Nadda on Saturday said that the current Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh would be the face of the new CM of the state if the party wins the assembly election. he said, “We definitely are in a comfortable majority. The election has been contested under the leadership of Jairam Thakur and he will continue.” He also took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as the latter did not participate in any campaign for the Himachal Pradesh assembly election and said that they (Congress) are careerist leaders. “They are careerist leaders, realised that they will gain nothing in HP and Gujarat. Once they feel they are winning or can win, they all will come here for credit. They know they won’t gain anything. So

they won’t be seen,” Mr Nadda said attacking the Congress party. As the state alternates between the BJP and the Congress in the last several elections, Mr Nadda thinks that this would change in this election. “It will definitely change. The people have made up their minds to change the tradition because the development in the last five years can be seen on the ground. So, there’s an atmosphere of joy and people want the government repeated,” the BJP chief said. Mr Nadda further said that the people of the state were showing zeal to elect the “BJP” again and wanted to give the party “another chance”. “People of Himachal are aware of their rights and voting right. So, polling is always good here. I see zeal, people want to give BJP another chance. I also see that people love and trust PM Modi and want the BJP government again. I see a favourable atmosphere for BJP,” JP Nadda said.

Eye’s wicked humour

Indians have arrived in British politics if Private Eye is anything to go by. In its 60 years, this is the first time the satirical magazine has featured two ‘Indians’ on its cover — the Punjabi prime minister, Rishi Sunak, and the Goan home secretary, Suella Braverman. There is so much about Sunak in the issue that it could easily become a collectors’ item for Indians. Private Eye’s wicked sense of humour appealed to Khushwant Singh. When he passed away at the age of 99 in 2014, his son, Rahul, said that his father’s extensive Private Eye collection went to Vikram Seth at the author’s request. The section I always turn to first is the “Street of Shame”, which informs me of the acts of omission and commission in the newspaper world. Another section, “Spectacular Reverse Ferrets”, shows how the newspapers which crucified Sunak during the leadership contest now carry obsequious pieces about the new PM. The Daily Mail extolled Truss’s “boldness, vision and strength of conviction” on August 3. But, on October 21, signalled the switch in allegiance: “Truss was a disastrous dalliance who served only to remind us what a real leader looks like.” The Sun’s front page hailed Truss on September 6, “The radical PM we need for this crisis,” only to do an about turn on October 21, “After the historic fiasco of Liz Truss’s fleeting but disastrous premiership, Britain is in dire need of genuine leadership and stability.” This year’s Hinduja Diwali party had the customary mix of senior politicians and captains of industry. But the most important guest by far was Sir Clive Alderton, King Charles’s private secretary. He strolled down The Mall from the Buckingham Palace to the Hinduja mansion in Carlton House Terrace, to be greeted by Gopi Hinduja, flanked by his brothers, Prakash and Ashok. The eldest, Srichand, who often invited me to walk with him in nearby St James’s Park and watch him feed birds and squirrels at 6 am, was too ill to attend. Thanking Gopi, “dear friend, dear neighbour” for his hospitality, Sir Clive was commendably brief: “All I wanted to do on behalf of His Majesty is to wish everyone in the room a very Happy Diwali. It is a community that the king has cared about for many, many years and spent a great deal of time and energy working in this country and around the world to bring communities together. And ‘GP’ has done that so brilliantly this evening, bringing so many different communities into - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara this wonderful house.

The former chief minister said election in Jammu and Kashmir will be held only when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gives a go ahead for it. “How can I say when elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir? That will be decided by the Election Commission and the commission will announce elections when the BJP says so,” she said. On the issue of governance, Mufti said the present government was bent upon reversing everything. “Look at our Kashmiri Pandits who are camping in Jammu for several months now. They are demanding that they be relocated to Jammu till the situation improves in Kashmir. But the government is sometimes stopping their salaries and sometimes stopping their ration,” she said. Agency News : Panaji After stand-up comedian Vir Das’ show in Bengaluru was cancelled following protests by right-wing organisations, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on Saturday said in Goa that it will continue to protest against him till he apologises for his “anti-India” remarks made in the USA. HJS national spokesperson Ramesh Shinde said here that his organisation will keep protesting against Das wherever his shows are scheduled. Das’ monologue “I come from two Indias” that he presented in the USA had triggered a controversy a year ago when he was criticised for allegedly defaming the country. On Thursday, his show scheduled in Bengaluru was cancelled at the last minute following protests by Hindu right-wing organisations, which alleged that it would hurt Hindu religious sentiments. “Das should apologise for his statement made against India in the US. If we don’t protest against his statement, then it would mean that we support what he had said,” Shinde

On Thursday, the comedian’s show scheduled in Bangalore was cancelled last minute following protests by Hindu right-wing organisations said. He accused the comedian of defaming India at international level during his performance. “Das should tender an apology for his statement. If he apologises, then the issue is over,” Shinde said. The HJS did not cancel Das’ show in Bengaluru, he said, adding that the organisation had filed a formal police complaint against the comedian at a police station there. “Police had told us (HJS) that the show cannot be cancelled. Agency News : Haryana The National Medicos Organisation (NMO) on Friday wrote to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, seeking the abolition of bond policy for MBBS students in Haryana. The doctors and MBBS students at PGIMS Rohtak are protesting against the bond policy for MBBS admission in Haryana. As per the bond policy, an amount of Rs 40 lakh has to be deposited by an MBBS student which will be refunded only after seven years of service and if the student fails to serve for this period, he or she will have to forfeit the bond amount. ”This is akin to ‘bonded labour’, which was abolished by the Constitution many years ago. It is also equally surprising that such a derogatory policy exists only for doctors in India,” NMO said in the letter. The bond policy has created widespread discontent among parents and students and has turned away many budding students from pursuing medicine as a career option. Those who complete MBBS waste their precious youthful years in the bond instead of joining PG/ super speciality courses, the letter added. The medicos’ body has sought the abolition of the policy with immediate

effect. “We have demanded that the bond policy should be abolished with immediate effect. To enforce India as a leader in medical education in the world and to attract young talent to the medical field, the outdated derogatory concept of bond should be abolished with immediate effect,” NMO member Sarvesh Pandey said in the letter. NMO has also demanded to constitute a highlevel expert committee to discuss the bond policy. “While decisions are being taken on this issue, as an interim arrangement, the state may be instructed to uniformly modify the current bond policy as the duration of bond after MBBS should not be more than two years, amounting to less than Rs 10 lakh (first year) and should be reduced to half after completion of one year of posting,” NMO suggested. If a student gets admitted to a PG course during the tenure of posting, he/she should be provided with an option of serving the remaining period after completion of the PG course, it added. The NMO has also suggested that “a bond with a total period of three years may be applied during the entire curriculum which can be done as per the convenience of the students.

Pakistan coach Saqlain Mushtaq had said that his team’s run to the final is Qudrat ka Nizaam (Law of nature) and on the eve of the final, skipper Babar Azam too credited his team’s show to divine interventon. Before Pakistan’s final against England at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, Babar was asked by a journalist about whether the team discussed the term Qudrat ka Nizaam. Babar said, “Sir hamara believe hi yahi hai ki ham allah pe believe karte hai. Allah hamein opportunity deta hai lekin. Jo hamare hath mein hai, apne effort dete hai aur koshish karte hai ki apna best de. Result allah ke hath mein hai.” The passage of 2009 champions into the final could even beat a Hollywood thriller script as they were down and out after the first week of the tournament

with morale shattering defeats to arch-rivals India and Zimbabwe. Pakistan raised hopes of a dramatic comeback in the second week of a tournament with a win over South Africa and a prayer on their lips for some divine intervention.Just like in 1992, miracle happened when the Netherlands produced a performance for the ages to shock South Africa and out of nowhere, Pakistan were back in contention for a semifinal berth. Critics say that in cricket, you never know which Pakistan turns on a particular day and the semifinal performance against a well rounded New Zealand side showed that when it comes to playing edge of the seat ‘Russian Roulette’, the ‘Green Machines’ are second to none. But just like everyone wants a slice of ‘92 from Babar’s team, the core of this current English team also has a date with history on this very Australian soil.

England and Pakistan could share the T20 World Cup trophy as rain threatens to play spoilsport on the day of the final as well as the reserve day at the MCG. Currently, there is a 95 per cent chance of rain on Sunday, with up to 25mm of showers predicted in Melbourne. “Very high (near 100%) chance of showers. Tournament rules for the final state that at least 10 overs a side are needed to constitute

a knockout stage match. If rain prevents play on both days then England and Pakistan will be forced to share the trophy. “The first priority will be to complete a shortened match on Sunday if required, meaning the overs will be reduced before the reserve day is activated,” The match is scheduled to start at 7pm local time (1.30pm IST) and if no play is possible, the game will spill over to the reserve day, starting at 3pm local time (9.30am IST). Three group stage games at the MCG were abandoned during this tournament without a ball being bowled due to wet weather, while one was curtailed.

More than six years back, Prime Minister Modi appeared on to announce that existing Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes will be invalid, forcing citizens to scramble for replacing their cash in lines outside banks and ATMs. The currency was replaced by new Rs 500 notes, and pink, fluorescent Rs 2000 notes, which were also rumoured to have microchips as per overenthusiastic media analysis. But six years later, those eye catching notes are fading away from the cash pile, much like the government would want demonetisation to vanish from public memory. days after demonetisation when ATMs pushed out mostly Rs 2000 notes, you can thank the Reserve Bank of India. The country’s banking regulator hasn’t printed the new currency welcomed with much fanfare from FY20-FY22, reducing its presence in the overall cashflow to a mere 13.8 per cent. Hence while a cashless economy or the end of black money still isn’t visible among other objectives of demonetisation, its only contribution to Indian economy is also being phased out.

Crypto exchange FTX filed for U.S. bankruptcy protection on Friday and its founder Sam Bankman-Fried resigned as chief executive, after the biggest blowup in the crypto industry drew calls for tighter regulation. The distressed crypto trading platform had struggled to raise billions to stave off collapse as traders rushed to withdraw $6 billion from the platform in just 72 hours and rival exchange Binance abandoned a proposed rescue deal this week. FTX, its affiliated crypto trading firm Alameda Research, and about 130 of its other companies have commenced voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in Delaware, the company said in a statement on Twitter on Friday. It

was an abrupt fall from grace for a company that was once a darling of the crypto industry. FTX raised $400 million from investors in January, valuing the company at $32 billion. Bankman-Fried, 30, known for his trademark shorts and t-shirt attire, has morphed from being the poster child of crypto’s successes to the protagonist of the industry’s highest-profile crash. “The shock was that this guy was the face of the crypto industry and it turned out that the emperor had no clothes,” said Thomas Hayes, managing member at Great Hill Capital LLC in New York. The week’s turmoil hit already-struggling cryptocurrency markets, sending bitcoin to twoyear lows . Bitcoin dropped after FTX’s announcement and was down 4.3% at $16,803 on Friday afternoon.
