If you reduce public debate to this level, you have to face consequences: SC tells Sisodia Agency News: New Delhi “If you reduce public debate to this level, you have to face the consequences,” the Supreme Court said on Monday while hearing a petition by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia challenging the Gauhati High Court order dismissing his plea for quashing a criminal defamation case filed against him by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The high court had dismissed Sisodia’s petition seeking quashing of the defamation case filed by Sarma over allegations of corruption levelled against him by the Delhi deputy CM. After the apex court showed its disinclination to entertain Sisodia’s plea against the November 4 order of the high court, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader withdrew it. Sarma had filed a criminal defamation case against Sisodia for making “baseless” corruption allegations against him in connection with the supply of PPE kits at “higher than market rates” to the National Health

Mission (NHM) authorities during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. The AAP leader had claimed that Sarma, as the state health minister in 2020, had given the supply orders to the firm of his wife. Sarma has denied these allegations. The matter came up for hearing on Monday before a bench comprising Justices S K Kaul and A S Oka. Senior advocate A M Singhvi, appearing for Sisodia, said the AAP leader had nowhere said any money was taken. ”If you reduce public debate to this level, you have to face the consequences,” the bench observed, adding the petitioner should have unconditionally apologised earlier.

A lowprofile BJP leader and the first from the Kadva Patidar sub-group to become CM, Patel replaced Vijay Rupani in September 2021. Hectic consultations are going on in BJP for picking ministerial candidates against the backdrop of the historic mandate given the party will have to walk the tightrope of balancing caste and regional representations.

Indian, Chinese troops clash along LAC in Tawang sector; minor injuries on both sides

Agency News: New Delhi Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed at a location along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh on December 9, resulting in minor injuries to a few personnel from both sides, military sources said on Monday. They said the Indian troops resolutely confronted the Chinese PLA soldiers. “On December 9, PLA troops contacted the LAC in Tawang Sector which was contested by our troops in a firm and resolute manner. This faceoff led to minor injuries to few

personnel from both sides,” said a source. The sources said both sides immediately disengaged from the area. “As a follow up to the incident, our Commander in the area held a Flag Meeting with his (Chinese) counterpart to discuss the issue in accordance with structured mechanisms to restore peace and tranquillity,” the source said. “In certain areas along the LAC in the Tawang Sector in Arunachal Pradesh there are areas of differing perception, wherein both sides patrol the area up to their claim lines. The Allahabad High Court has stayed the transfer of the Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Manoj Kumar whose video on the poor quality of food served in the police mess went viral a few months ago. A bench of Justice Pankaj Bhatia passed the order on a plea moved by the constable against his transfer from Firozabad to Ghazipur. The court directed the State government to file its counter-affidavit within four weeks. The Court further directed that after filing of government’s reply, the petitioner will have four weeks to file the rejoinder affidavit. The Court posted the matter on February 28 for further hearing while ordering that in the meanwhile, the transfer order of Kumar dated 20.09.2022 shall not be given effect, unless he has already joined at the new place.

Govt Blocks Pakistan-based OTT Platform for Showing Series ‘Detrimental to India’s National Security’ Agency News: New Delhi The Centre on Monday issued directions for blocking a Pakistan-based OTT platform Vidly TV, two mobile applications, four social media accounts, and a smart TV app for showing a series that was “detrimental to India’s national security and integrity”. On the anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Vidly TV released a web series titled ‘Sevak: The Confessions’ which was found to be detrimental to the national security, sovereignty, and integrity of India. untrue web series “Sevak” was sponsored by Pakistan’s info ops apparatus,” senior adviser at the ministry Kanchan Gupta said on Twitter. The web series portrayed an anti-India narrative on sensitive historical events and subjects of national importance such as Operation Blue Star and its aftermath, the demolition of the Babri Masjid at Ayodhya, the killing of a Christian missionary named Graham Staines, Malegaon blasts, Samjhauta Express blasts and inter-state river water dispute related to Sutlej Yamuna Link canal.

Parliament passes bill to promote non-fossil energy sources and carbon credit trading Agency News: New Delhi A bill seeking to mandate the use of non-fossil energy sources such as biomass, ethanol and green hydrogen was passed by Parliament on Monday. The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was cleared in Rajya Sabha by a voice vote on Monday. Lok Sabha passed the legislation in the previous session in August this year. The bill provides for penalties for violations by industrial units or vessels, and on manufacturers if a vehicle fails to comply with fuel consumption norms. The amendments also seek to promote renewable energy and the development of a domestic carbon market to battle climate

change. The bill is also aimed at helping the country achieve its international commitments on climate change. It aims to introduce new concepts such as carbon trading and mandate the use of non-fossil sources to ensure faster decarbonisation of the Indian economy and help achieve sustainable development goals in line with the Paris Agreement. Replying to a debate on the bill, Minister of New and Renewable Energy R K Singh said the bill is environment friendly and will allow carbon trading in the country. ”For government, the environment is precious and will take all steps for that,” he said, adding India has now become a leader in the energy transition.

longer unique. Others charting the same script The biggest winner of the latest election cycle is Gujarat Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani. Now, if this triggers a dismissive response from you, try and hold on for a second. I invoke Mevani in the hope of outlining emerging changes in Indian politics, and this is because the biggest loser remains Indian political analysis. As the world’s most high-octane democracy, every election is frustratingly treated with the same cookie-cutter analysis. Excited data crunchers hold sway as they bombard you with colour-coded charts and graphs with mainly two points of discussion: Vote share of parties and the nature of the swing vote, with some noises about caste or ‘incumbency’ usually ending with ‘lessons’ for parties and prophetic statements on the next election. The only constant in the current analysis is the power of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Even if you are a die-hard supporter of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Modi, this is less than satisfactory. The twin results of BJP’s big win in its prestige bastion of Gujarat and the solid, if hard-won, Congress victory in Himachal Pradesh indicate that both personality and populism have hit a saturation point. To put it in street-speak, both bhakti (devotion) and revdi (freebies) look not quite spent but overdone. Aam Admi Party’s less-than-impressive results compared to its big talk and big media love-in has confirmed its character as a spoiler rather than a contender. The new, if unnoticed, story is the likely emergence of a different social map of political leadership even as hard identity talk reigns. Look no further than Mevani and, indeed, Congress’ Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu in Himachal Pradesh. You don’t necessarily need to be in a cadre-based party to breach the zealously guarded citadels of power. To be sure, Modi continues to wield all the powers associated with his personality and as a distinct form of leadership of our times. His carefully curated road shows in Gujarat ensured more than just the big mandate for his party. Whether it is a Lok Sabha election or his home state, Modi manages to overwhelm any concern with governance and accountability. Despite the recent preventable deaths due to the Morbi bridge collapse, or even the long-drawn-out and brutal fallout of the global Covid-19 - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara pandemic, Modi remains popular.

protection of personal data Agency News: New Delhi Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Monday called for a thorough investigation into the cyber attack on the servers of AIIMS-Delhi and urged the government to take necessary measures to ensure adequate protection of citizens’ sensitive personal data and avoid such data breaches in the future. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi allegedly faced a cyber attack last month, paralysing its servers. A case of extortion and cyber terrorism was registered by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police on November 25. Raising the matter of urgent public importance in Lok Sabha, Tharoor said the recent cyber attacks on the IT servers of AIIMS-Delhi had resulted in data losses which impeded its normal operations including patient registration, consultation booking and availability of medical records. “The origin, intent and extent of the attack remain unclear and I trust that the

government recognising this as a matter of public importance will take the House into confidence about this and the measures taken to prevent a recurrence,” the MP from Thiruvananthapuram said. The possibility of this being a hostile cross-border attack is a grave concern which calls for a thorough investigation and a tough response, Tharoor stressed. “It also reflects the weak data protection safeguards in our country especially by government institutions. The Personal Data Protection Bill 2019 had created a special category of sensitive personal data including health data that required stringent safeguards but this has unfortunately been done away with in the new draft bill released by the government,” he said.

Fernandez also appeared before the court during the brief hearing. The court had on November 15 granted regular bail to the actress. She was not arrested in the case. Some of the vehicles procured by the Mumbai Police earlier this year under the Nirbhaya Fund to fight crime against women are being used for providing Y-plus security to the MLAs and MPs of the Shiv Sena faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, a police official said on Sunday. In June this year, the city police force procured 220 Boleros, 35 Ertigas, 313 Pulsar motorcycles and 200 Activa two-wheelers using the Rs 30 crore corpus that it had received under the Nirbhaya fund. The development prompted the opposition Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to attack the Shinde-led government,

the ruling legislators was more important than protecting women. The Nirbhaya Fund is being given to the state governments by the Centre since 2013 to implement schemes related to women’s safety. “After the vehicles were procured in June, they were distributed to all 97 police stations, cyber, traffic and coastal police units in July,” the official said. “Of these vehicles, 47 Boleros were requisitioned from several police stations by the Motor Transport Department of the Mumbai Police following an order from the VIP Security section of the state police stating that they are required for use as an escort vehicle for MPs and MLAs of the Shinde faction to provide Y-Plus security cover to them,” he said.

BSF Nabs Three Pakistani Fishermen from Creek Area Near Border in Gujarat Agency News: Bhuj

The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday nabbed three Pakistani fishermen and seized their boat from a creek area near the India-Pakistan border off the Kutch district coast in Gujarat, the BSF said. In a special search operation conducted overnight, three Pakistani fishermen were apprehended in the early hours of Monday from the Harami Nalla creek area, a BSF release said. “Upon learning about the movement of a Pakistani fishing boat and fishermen inside the Indian territory of the creek, the BSF patrol

immediately rushed to the spot and seized their boat. “On seeing BSF personnel approaching them, fishermen started fleeing towards Pakistan. However, BSF jawans chased them and apprehended three Pak fishermen,” it said. They are residents of Zero Point in Pakistan. The preliminary questioning revealed one of the fishermen was held by BSF in 2017 as well and was lodged in the Bhuj Jail for a year before he was repatriated to Pakistan from the Attari Wagah border. The fishermen told BSF they entered Indian territory for fishing as it is their main source of livelihood.

Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said on Monday his party’s “alternative style and method” didn’t work in the Assembly polls in Gujarat, where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) offered “novel and new idea” and hurt the M Mallikarjun Khageled outfit’s electoral prospects. The former Union Minister said the Assembly election results in Himachal Pradesh, where the Congress edged the BJP out of power, has given the party a new sense of purpose. “And I hope that we will make this into a model state”, Khurshid told. The Congress won just 17 seats in Gujarat, while bagging 40 seats in the 68-member Himachal House. Speaking on the Gujarat Assembly elections, he said the party was in difficulty even

In a sense, our medium term and long term planning was a little bit in disarray because of that. The use of the word “begged” by Patil, who is the state’s minister for higher and technical education, stirred a controversy, leading to the ink attack. After the incident, police suspended 10 personnel including three officers for the security lapse. Patil on Sunday said the ink was thrown on him as part of a planned attack and claimed his statement on Ambedkar and Phule was “distorted” by some people. Agency News: Bengaluru Bengaluru woke up to drizzle on Monday and will continue to see showers along with several other districts of Karnataka till December 16. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Chamarajanagar, Kodagu and Shivamogga districts. Besides Bengaluru, rainfall occurred at most places over the state today and thunderstorm is also likely to occur at isolated regions in the next 24 hours, according to Met Centre Bengaluru’s bulletin. The change in weather comes as neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh witnessed heavy rainfall under the influence of cyclone ‘Mandous’. With Mumbai’s air quality seeing a significant dip, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal spoke to on Monday, and majorly pointed the finger at oil refineries in the city. He said the challenges faced by Mumbai air are on the same lines as that of Delhi. His statement came in light of Mumbai’s AQI dipping to ‘poor category’ on Sunday. He said, “Mumbai saw a bad AQI due to oil refineries, and I have held discussions with senior officials to look into the issue. Long term measures need to be adopted by oil refineries in order to not contribute to air pollution.” Chahal also said garbage dumping in Deonar could be another issue. “Deonar is closer to Mumbai and garbage dumping there should stop, as it causes air pollution in Mumbai. Instead, cleaner forms of energy should

be looked into,” he said. Despite several regions in the financial capital of India experiencing ‘very poor’ air, the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) recorded the overall AQI of Mumbai in ‘poor’ category on Sunday. According to SAFAR, the overall AQI of the state capital of Maharashtra was 211 as on Sunday morning. The AQI in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) was recorded in the ‘very poor’ category at 305 while Chembur recorded it at 302. However, Mazagaon in Mumbai also witnessed ‘very poor’ air with an AQI of 328 and Malad saw ‘poor’ air quality at 290 AQI, an said.

PCB chairman Ramiz Raja once again talked about the possibility of bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan. The two arch-rivals haven’t met outside of multi-team tournaments since 2013 due to strained political relations between the two nations. Things got tenser between the two cricket boards after BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that Team India won’t be travelling to Pakistan and called for a change in venue to a neutral host. Raja has made some explosive comments after Shah’s statements. In reply, PCB threatened to pull out of the ODI World Cup which would be held within a month after the Asia Cup next year. Raja took a fresh dig at BCCI and this time he also involved the International

India Women held their nerves when it mattered, beating their Australian counterparts via Super Over in the second T20I at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday to level the series 1-1. Putting Australia in to bat, the Indians rode Smriti Mandhana’s 79 (off 49 balls) and meaty blows in the closing overs from Richa Ghosh (26 not out off 13 balls) and Devika Vaidya (11 not out off 5 balls) to ensure they matched the visitors’ total of 187 for 1 losing five wickets. In the Super Over thereafter, Mandhana hit a four and a six before taking a three while Ghosh hit a maximum too

After remaining above the RBI’s upper tolerance limit of 6 per cent, the retail inflation in India during November eased to an 11-month low of 5.88 per cent with food prices seeing sharp cooling, according to the latest official data released on Monday. Inflation in rural areas in November 2022 cooled to 6.09 per cent, while that in urban areas softened to 5.68 per cent. This is the second consecutive month to see easing in prices. However, India’s industrial production contracted by 4 per cent in October, mainly due to a decline in the manufacturing sector output and subdued growth in mining and power generation. According to the latest data from the National Statistical Office (NSO), inflation in the food basket, or the Consumer Food Price Index, decelerated to 4.67

After Beth Mooney (82 not out) and Tahlia McGrath (70 not out) helped Australia to a formidable total, India seemed to be losing their plot following Mandhana’s dismissal. With 40 needed off 21 balls, Ghosh and Vaidya made sure the game went till the Super Over.

Cricket Council in the matter. The PCB chief stated that India produces the entire wealth for the ICC which is the reason why the governing body didn’t intervene in their matter. “They are circumspect and not forthcoming because India produces the entire ICC wealth, and so their position, unfortunately, is compromised as a result, I don’t think it’s going to change unless we have a resolve and commitment in every cricket board and our cricket fraternity works towards making it happen,” Ramiz Raja was quoted as saying by the National.

Australia took just 90 minutes to complete the formalities with Michael Neser and Mitchell Starc sharing five of the last six Windies wickets. Aishwarya Sharma also talks about how Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin became her ‘pick-up point’ in her career

Nawazuddin Siddiqui Blames Aishwarya Sharma Reveals How Actors Charging Exorbitant Playing Pakhi In GHKKPM Affected Her Mental Health Fees For Harming A Film Agency News : Mumbai Nawazuddin Siddiqui has made it on his own with a diverse filmography to his credit. Whether it was Gangs Of Wasseypur or Sacred Games, the actor has proven himself that he can ace any role that comes his way. He has also been very blunt and vocal about his views related to OTT and Bollywood Industry in general. Following

that trajectory, the Lunchbox actor called out all the actors who charge an exorbitant amount of money and in turn ended up hampering the film. While speaking with ETimes, Nawazuddin shared that money has always acted as a bone of contention between good ideas and passion. He explained, “It is a historic fact that money has always chased good ideas and passion. I could have a trillion dollars but if I

don’t have the ability to think of one decent idea, it’s almost a certainty that my trillion dollars will get reduced into pocket change. From the film industry perspective, if a person has a remarkable script, producers will run behind that person with endless money to get that script. We should give more credence to a capable brain and a person who can come up with good ideas.”

Aishwarya Sharma is a popular television actress who is currently seen in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin. In the show, she plays a grey character named Pakhi. While the show has been ruling the TRP charts for a long time, do you know that playing a negative role affected Aishwarya’s mental health too? In a recent interview, the actress opened up about the same and revealed how she used to continuously think about her character’s actions. Aishwarya also recalled discussing the same with her co-actor and husband Neil Bhatt when the latter asked her not to take it very ‘seriously’. “It did affect me mentally in the beginning when Pakhi started feeling jealous. I used to think, why is the character feeling jealous, she should move on. My thoughts would continue separately. If a person is not responding, it’s clear that Virat doesn’t love Pakhi anymore, so, why she’s going behind him? Is she mad to do that?” Aishwarya said. “I used to talk to Neil (Bhatt) about this ‘Why is she doing this? She’s very intelligent and she should think about herself. She’s a travel vlogger and should be career-oriented.’ Then he told me, ‘Baby, we are doing a television show, please don’t take it seriously.’ Now, I am used to it and whatever comes my way, either positive or negative, we have to perform convincingly and we are doing our jobs and I am happy,” the actress added. However, Aishwarya also shared that Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin is the show which gave her ‘fame’ and became a ‘pick-up point’ for her career. She concluded by saying that the show also provided her with the love of her life, Neil Bhatt and said, I got my husband, Neil Bhatt - the most beautiful thing from this show, which I’d never thought. Honestly, you’ll be surprised because I never thought of marrying an actor.

By auditioning and nothing else. So, my manager sent me an audition for this show, and I auditioned for Pratiksha’s character. And I completely forgot about it after auditioning. A few days later I got a call saying that I have been selected. I’ve auditioned for almost all the roles in this show but yeah, I got lucky to bag this role. I have just started with this show, so I am learning a lot from Pratiksha’s character, how she is and what she does. In real life, I think I am not like that. I believe today the roles are very different in

real life as compared to reel life. So, I believe, nothing is perfect or ideal, it’s mutual from both sides. There has to be love, understanding and trust, and eventually, things get better if these three pillars are there in a relationship from both sides. So, I feel this is what an ideal Dharam Patni or Dharam Pati should be in real life.
