SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Opposition Has A Golden Opportunity Against Narendra Modi, Don’t Mess It Up

At long last, the opposition parties are showing signs of unprecedented unity in taking a common position against the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The abrupt ending of the Parliament session by the ruling regime on August 11 instead of thescheduled August13, was a deliberate decision to avoid any discussion on the allegation ofsnooping by Pegasus software. The Government knew what it had done in 2017.AlreadyFrench, Israel and US government agencies have initiated investigations. It was acompulsion for the Modi Government to avoid any such move.In fact this Pegasus spyware issue has got all the explosive potential of emerging as Boforslike on the eve of the 1989 Lok Sabha elections which led to the defeat of the Congress ledby Rajiv Gandhi and the emergence ofV P Singh as the leader of the opposition who took over as the Prime Minister after getting support from both BJP and the Left from outside. ThePegasus issue, the three farm laws and the failure of the centre to protect the poor and unorganised hit most by pandemic are more people’s related issues than Bofors which can form the basis of the joint movement of the opposition and this issue based unity can be channelized into electoral arena during both state assembly elections in 2022 and 2023 andthereafter finally in 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has convened a meeting of the opposition parties againon August 20 and she has invited the leaders of the opposition parties including NCP leaderSharad Pawar, Trinamool supremo and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Shiv Sena CMUddhav Thackeray, Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin to attend the same. Earlier last week,Congress MP Kapil Sibal organised a dinner meeting of the opposition leaders which washighly successful since the leaders of the BJD, TDP and YSRC also participated and expressed their anger against the central rule. These leaders generally avoid the centralleadership of the Congress but Sibal was able to get them associated with his meeting whichhad a good presence of G-23 leaders. The ground is fertile but there are a few disconcerting signs which may adversely affect theopposition unity, if not tackled now. In fact at the August 20 meeting itself, senior leaders like Sharad Pawar and M K Stalin can help in sorting out the hot and cold policy of Trinamooltowards Rahul Gandhi which is very essential for building the opposition unity and taking itforward. Trinamool MPs did not attend the demonstration of the opposition MPs inParliament premises led by Rahul Gandhi on August 12 against the abrupt ending of thesessions. Earlier also, on one or two times, Trinamool MPs skipped Rahul organizedmeetings. The impression is gaining ground that Trinamool wants to project Mamata as the potential candidate for Prime Minister for 2024 Lok Sabha elections and that is why they aredevaluing Rahul’s prominence. There is nothing wrong in any ambition of Trinamool in projecting Mamata as PM candidate. But Mamata herself said that this is not the time to talk about leadership issue, this can come up later based on the circumstances after the Lok Sabha polls. This is the correct position for the opposition. If Mamata really feels so, she must not allow such comments by her partyMPs and ensure that there is full cooperation with Rahul Gandhi and both will be partners inthe opposition battle against the BJP government both in and outside Parliament till 2024Lok Sabha elections. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s talks in Delhi during her five day visitbeginning July 26, have helped in a big way in facilitating the process of an understanding inprinciple that the Congress has to be a major partner in the proposed front of the anti-BJPopposition parties in order to ensure the defeat of the BJP led by the Prime MinisterNarendra Modi in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. That partnership has to be strengthenedand that cannot be done by continuously giving pinpricks to Rahul Gandhi by TrinamoolMPs.Mamata has a definite political strategy for both the coming assembly polls as also the LokSabha elections. According to this, the main antiBJP party in the state will have decisivepower in deciding on the electoral policy in consultations with the other parties which areinterested in - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara being a part of the anti-BJP.

Rajnath Singh launches various events to mark Independence Day

“PM Modi Insulted Nitish Kumar Over Caste Census”: Tejashwi Yadav Agency News: Patna Bihar Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had insulted Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by not granting him the time sought to meet and discuss the need for a Caste-based Census, which the Centre has said will not be conducted. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader said he has also written to the Centre on the matter. Mr Yadav’s comment today came days after the Chief Minister himself said he had not received any response to his letter, received by the Prime Minister’s Office on August 4, seeking to meet PM Modi. “Since both (Centre and Bihar) have NDA governments...we, the opposition.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Friday launched a number of events organised by the ministry of defence (MoD) and the armed forces ahead of the celebrations for the 75th year of India’s Independence. “What kind of India do we build by 2047, on 100 years of Independence? We have to build ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat’, a prosperous, selfreliant, self-respecting India, that doesn’t attack any other country but gives a befitting reply to anyone who casts an eye on us,” Singh said at the launch event, Singh said that

75 years ago India’s freedom fighters took refuge in the mountains when required and today India is doing mountain campaigns on the same mountains. According to a statement issued by the ministry of defence, among other initiatives, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) will be installing the tricolour at 100 islands on August 15 as a part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. ‘Attack on democracy’: Rahul Gandhi on Twitter blocking his account Calling Twitter biased, the Congress leader said, “Our democracy is under attack. We are not allowed to speak in Parliament. The media is controlled. And I thought there was a ray of light where we could put what we thought on Twitter Agency News: New Delhi Calling it an “attack on the democratic structure of the country”, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit out at Twitter for shutting down his Twitter profile. “This is not an attack on Rahul Gandhi. I have 19-20 million followers. You are denying them the right to an opinion. That’s what you are doing,” Rahul said via a video on YouTube. He added, “A company is making its business to define our politics.

And as a politician I don’t like that.” Calling Twitter biased, the Congress leader said, “Our democracy is under attack. We are not allowed to speak in Parliament. The media is controlled. And I thought there was a ray of light where we could put what we thought on Twitter. But obviously, that’s not the case. It’s obvious now that Twitter is actually not a neutral, objective platform. It’s something that listens to what the government of the day says.” The Twitter

handles of Rahul Gandhi and many other Congress leaders have been locked for sharing photographs that showed the former party president interacting with the family of the 9-year-old Dalit girl who was allegedly raped and killed in Delhi last week. “As Indians, we have to ask the question: Are we going to allow companies just because they are beholden to the Government of India to define our politics for us? Or are we going to define our politics on our own?” Rahul asked.

Around 2.6 lakh people - 0.048 per cent of the more than 53.14 crore vaccine doses administered so far - have tested positive for COVID-19 after getting at least one dose of a vaccine, Health Ministry sources said Friday. Of these 1,71,511 people had received only one dose. ‘Breakthrough infections’ infections contracted after vaccination dropped by more than 50 per cent for people who received both doses - 87,049 cases were reported. Sources said all three Covid vaccines in India - Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V - seemed to provide similar levels of protection from ‘breakthrough

infections’. While the number of ‘breakthrough infections’ as a percentage of those who have been vaccinated is still very low, the steady uptick is worrying medical experts and the government, particularly with more aggressive variants of the virus in circulation in India and abroad. the government will begin tracking reports of ‘breakthrough infections’ from across the country; a digital platform to collect data is likely to be up and running next week, source said. Data to be captured will include the vaccine administered. Sources also said samples from people reporting ‘breakthrough infections’ were being collected from different states and genome sequencing was being carried out to confirm virus variants. Government concern over ‘breakthrough’ infections spiked after Health Ministry sources that more than 40,000 such cases have been reported from Kerala, which faces an unwelcome surge in numbers; this morning the state reported over 18,000 in the preceding 24 hours. More than half the 40,000+ ‘breakthrough infections’ were from Pathanamthita district, and, of those, people who had received both doses accounted for only 5,042 of the infections.

‘No boss, I don’t have any time’: Sharma clears misconceptions about his batting India vs England: Rohit Sharma is many things – a world-class batsman, a formidable opener, an impressive captain – but the two things he is not is a batsman who has ‘extra time’ and ‘lazy elegance’.

“Sometimes, It Feels Like A Dream,” Says Princepal Singh On His NBA Journey

Rohit Sharma is the only batsman in the world to have scored three double-centuries in ODIs. He also holds the record for scoring the maximum number of centuries in a single edition of the World Cup, which is five. Rohit is the most successful captain in the history of IPL, having led Mumbai Indians to five title wins, and as India skipper, he has led the team to 15 wins from 19 T20Is, a win percentage of 78.95. Rohit is many

things – a world-class batsman, a formidable opener, an impressive captain – but the two things he is not is a batsman who has ‘extra time’ and ‘lazy elegance’. Former cricketers and fans alike have commonly associated these two terms with Rohit’s batting time and again,”I’ve heard people say that ‘he has got a lot of time’. No boss, I don’t have any time. I know that when I’m facing the bowler, you have to be ready. There is no such thing as extra time or he has got more time. Every batsman is challenged.

Singh, who hails from Gurdaspur, Punjab, followed his Ludhiana basketball Academy teammate Satnam Singh in making his debut at the Summer league when he turned up for Sacramento Kings against Washington Wizards at Las Vegas on Tuesday night.“It’s amazing to play in the Summer League. I am very happy with my progress as a player. I played G league first and now playing in Summer league, and I am working towards the NBA. I

didn’t think I will reach this far. It sometimes feels like a dream,” Singh said during a virtual press conference. “My next goal is playing at NBA, Satnam Singh was the first Indian to play and I want to play for a long time in NBA, so my focus is on taking care of my body and keeping myself fit.”Satnam had played in the Summer League in 2016 after being first drafted in the NBA by Dallas.
