Justice Gupta upheld the Karnataka government circular and dismissed the appeals against the Karnataka High Court judgment. However, Justice Dhulia allowed all the appeals and set aside the judgment of the Karnataka High Court.
Agency News : New Delhi Several UK citizens looking to visit India have been forced to postpone or cancel their trips after visa agents in the country received notices that they could no longer apply for tourist visas on behalf of the applicant. This means that the applicant now needs to appear in person at the UK visa centres. The hitch though? There are no appointments available before their flights depart. There has been a mounting backlog for Indian visas in recent months, as applicants complain of a shortage of appointments available and lengthy processing times. The High Commissioner of India to the UK has outlined the steps being taken to address the issue. ”First and foremost, we understand
that there has been difficulty in getting these appointments, we are doing our best to ameliorate the situation,” Vikram Doraiswami said in his video message from India House in London. He emphasised that more visa slots would soon be released online and are also ramping up their capacity in partnership with their service provider VFS. By the end of the month, two new visa centres would be set up - one in Scotland’s Glasgow and the other in central London. “The essence

A Tamil Nadu teacher has been arrested after a minor student that she was allegedly having an affair with died by suicide, police said. The police suspect that the 17-year-old student died by suicide after the teacher ended the relationship with him. The teacher works at a government-aided school in Ambattur, which is just 20 kilometres from Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai. She had been teaching the boy for three years since he was in class 10. He would sometimes visit her house with other students to clarify doubts, police said. “The teacher ended the relationship with him after she got engaged. The minor boy however wanted to continue” says Jothilakshmi,

While Justice Hemant Gupta dismissed the appeals challenging the March 15 judgment of the Karnataka High Court, which had refused to lift the ban, Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia held there shall be no restriction on the wearing of hijab anywhere in the schools and colleges of the state. Mr Owaisi said that the Karnataka High Court’s earlier judgment “was bad in law. Bad in terms of its contents.” On March 15, the high court had dismissed the petitions filed by a section of Muslim students of Government Pre-University Girls College in Karnataka’s Udupi seeking permission to wear hijab inside classrooms.

Tata Group recently acquired Air India from the government. Tata Group controls the majority 51 per cent stake in Vistara while 49 per cent of the share is controlled by Singapore Airlines. “In line with its multihub strategy, SIA is currently in confidential discussions with Tata to explore a potential transaction in relation to the securities of Vistara and Air India Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata (the “Potential Transaction”). SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Kerala ‘Human Sacrifice’ Case Revives Calls for Effective Law, Promoting Critical Thinking Kerala’s shocking ‘human sacrifice’ case, where two women were brutally assaulted and murdered in the name of superstition, has once again revived calls for comprehensive action to address the menace of harmful and deceitful practices in the name of faith. On Tuesday, the Kerala police arrested three persons – one person described as a “psychopath and pervert” and a couple – after unearthing the murder of two women in a suspected practice of “black magic” and “human sacrifice”. Human sacrifice is the act of killing one or more humans as part of a ritual, which some “black magic” practitioners falsely claim will bring material benefits. The murders were a result of the planning of a habitual offender – Muhammed Shafi alias Rasheed – who convinced a couple – Bhagawal Singh and Laila – that murdering a person would “please” the goddess and bring them “financial prosperity”. According to the police, Shafi and the couple brutally murdered two women – in separate instances, on in June and the other in September – at the couple’s house at Elanthoor in the southern district of Pathanamthitta. Rosly, 49, was killed in June and Padmam, 52, was killed in September. Both the women were lured and trapped by Shafi and taken to Singh’s house, where they were murdered and buried. The primary findings of the police investigation revealed the continuing existence of dangerous and criminal practices in the name of faith in the state. According to the police probe so far, the killings took place because Shafi – against whom more than 10 cases including rape, theft and attempt to murder charges were registered – met Singh and Laila, who were willing to do anything to improve their financial condition. Singh and Laila were looking for ways to achieve economic prosperity. And Shafi convinced Singh that ‘human sacrifice’ would bring them what they want. Shafi was later paid by the couple for facilitating the ‘ritual’. Shafi used a fake ID on social media to establish contact with Singh. Shafi, who presented himself to Singh as a woman, said he knew one sorcerer named Rasheed. Later, Shafi arrived at Singh’s house as Rasheed. The police revealed shocking details that have emerged from the probe so far. According to the investigators, Shafi and the couple severely assaulted their victims before they beheaded them and cut the dead bodies into pieces. They were later buried. Shafi lured both Rosly and Padmam by offering them money. Both women were engaged in selling lottery tickets. Padmam was originally from Tamil Nadu. At the time of their murder, both the women were residing in Ernakulam, where Shafi, also - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara a resident of the district, met them.

Mistry had said on Wednesday that the Congress presidential polls will be held by a secret ballot and no one will get to know who voted for whom. He had asserted that a levelplaying field has been ensured for both candidates. In the polls, Shashi Tharoor is pitted against Mallikarjun Kharge who is seen as a favourite for the top party post because of his perceived proximity to the Gandhi family. However, the party and both candidates have maintained that the Gandhis are neutral in the polls. The Congress presidential poll will take place on October 17 and the results will be out on October 19.

According to Uttarakhand Police, the Moradabad Police had gone to Udham Singh Nagar to arrest a criminal carrying reward of Rs 50,000. “The accused is a wanted criminal carrying a reward of Rs 50,000. He escaped from there (Bharatpur village). When our police team reached, they were taken hostage and their weapons were snatched,” Moradabad Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Shalabh Mathur told. He also said that the mafia escaped from Bharatpur village and when the police team reached, they were taken hostage. Five police officers were injured and are receiving medical care at a hospital, but two are still missing, and a search for them is underway.

The order was withdrawn by Avny Lavasa, deputy commissioner of Jammu, and communicated through media, putting to bed the controversy that flared up after rival parties accused the BJP of subverting fresh voter rolls in its favour. On Tuesday, Lavasa through an order had authorised tehsildars to help get residents registered as fresh voters, a process that started from September 15. The Enforcement Directorate has filed a charge sheet against journalist Rana Ayyub under the anti-money laundering law, alleging that she utilised publicly raised funds of Rs 2.69 crore for herself and also contravened the foreign contribution law. The federal agency filed its prosecution complaint against Ayyub before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) on October 12. “Rana Ayyub launched three fundraiser charity campaigns
on ‘Ketto platform’ starting from April, 2020 and collected funds totalling Rs 2,69,44,680,” the ED said in a statement issued on Thursday. The campaigns, it said, were meant to raise funds for slum dwellers and farmers; relief work for Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra and help Ayyub and her team to help those impacted by COVID-19 in India.Probe found, the agency said, that the funds raised on the online platforms were received in the accounts of Ayyub’s father and sister and subsequently transferred to her personal accounts. “Ayyub utilised these funds to create a fixed deposits of Rs 50 lakh for herself and also transferred Rs 50 lakh in a new bank account. Investigation found that only about Rs 29 lakh was used for relief work,” it claimed.

Following the move, a delegation of local clerics met District Magistrate Raveesh Gupta on Wednesday and alleged that action was being taken only against members of one community. Speaking after the meeting, Maulana Qasim said, “The incident is deplorable. It doesn’t matter who started it. But if people of both communities were involved then both (sides) are accused, not one. “However, the condition is such that the people of only one community are being arrested.
