According to a new booklet by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, some commonly used words including ‘betrayed’, ‘corrupt’, ‘drama’, ‘hypocrisy’ and abused, along with terms such as ‘jumlajeevi’, ‘baal buddhi’, ‘Covid spreader’ and ‘Snoopgate’ will be considered unparliamentary from now on

Petrol will now cost ₹ 5 less and diesel ₹ 3 less in Maharashtra as the state cabinet decided today. This means that, from tomorrow, petrol will cost around ₹ 106 a litre and diesel ₹ 94 in Mumbai. Slight variations are possible as there are other components at play when oil companies set the daily price. Soaring Food And Energy Prices Accentuate Cost Of Living Crisis India is entering into a major cost of living crisis due to multiple domestic and international crises, which included soaring food and energy prices, rising poverty, joblessness,endangered food security, disincentive to farmers growing food articles, and lopsided policyinterventions. The way the government is responding to the issues lack holistic approach,and problems are being responded to on adhoc basis with little temporary success to lessnumber of people than really in need, which further contribute in exacerbating the cost ofliving crisis.For example, the food security report of 2022 has calculated cost of healthy diet in India in2020 to be 2.970 dollar per day, and the people unable to afford it were 70.5 per cent, ie973.4 million people. However, Modi government provisioned for only foodgrains for only800 million people while many other essential needs were unmet. Even then due tocorruption and other administrative failures, the foodgrains did not reach to all targetedpeople chiefly because millions of people did not have documents which government failedto supply. The two years of the pandemic has exacerbated the situation further and pushedan estimated 230 million into poverty. The price rise has further added several millions into it.The dimension of the cost of living crisis in India is thus unfathomable at present.Government have been in dark on the real time data about the demography, and now hasbeen caught napping by the revelation that its burden of population has been rising fasterthan the number of people it has been planned for. India is to become largest populatedcountry within a year by 2023, not by 2027 as estimated in 2019. This will have immediate and devastatingeffects on household welfare — with those in poverty and near-poverty typically hit hardestdue to their higher energy and food budget share— posing significant policy challenges togovernments during the response. The soaring food and energy prices could push up to 71 million people into poverty, and the world has only two options – first, the blanket energysubsidy, and the second, targeted cash transfers to the vulnerable.Price rise have been sounding the alarm of global inflationary surge not seen in years. IMFhas projected an inflation rate of 6 per cent for developed countries, and 9 per cent indeveloping counties in 2022. As for India, its headline retail inflation rate, as measured byCPI was stayed largely unchanged at a high of 7.01 per cent in June as against 7.04 percent in May. The annual rate of inflation based on all-India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) is 15.18 per cent for the month of June, the government said on Thursday, in a marginal drop from May when the figure stood at 15.88 per cent. The latest figure has bucked the three-month rising trend but remained in double-digit for the 15th straight month, a report by news agency PTI highlighted. Figures have been in double digits since April last year.“The high rate of inflation in June is primarily due to the rise in prices of mineral oils, food articles, crude petroleum and natural gas, basic metals, chemicals and chemical products, food products
etc. as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year,” read the government statement.In the “Fuel and Power” category, the index increased by 0.65 per cent to 155.4 in June from 154.4 per cent for the month of May, 2022. “Prices of Mineral Oils (0.98%) increased in June, 2022 as compared to May,” the statement read.“The Food Index consisting of ‘Food Articles’ from Primary Articles group and ‘Food Product’ from Manufactured Products group have increased from 176.1 in May, 2022 to 178.4 in June.
