News Brief Gold, silver slip on global cues, muted demand

(H.S.) | New Delhi Gold drifted lower by Rs 100 to Rs 30,300 per 10 grams at the bullion market today amid a weak global trend and subdued demand from jewellers. Silver also dropped by Rs 275 to Rs 42,350 per kg due to reduced offtake by industrial units and coin makers. Besides, a weak trend overseas and fall in demand from jewellers and retailers at the domestic spot market mainly put pressure on the precious metal prices, traders said.

A day after the All India Muslim Personal Law Board+ called Prime Minister Narendra Modi “dictatorial”, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu ripped into the Board asking why it was dragging the PM into the Uniform Civil Code+ issue. Calling for an “enlightened debate” on Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said the “real mood” of the country was to end triple talaq and some people were trying to create confusion over the two issues. “You (All India Muslim Personal Law

‘Shaurya Smarak is a pilgrimage spot for us’: PM Modi’s speech in Bhopal

(H.S.) | Bhopal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the newly built war memorial- Shaurya Samarak- in Bhopal. Emphasising upon the major role played by the security forces in the protection of the country and also of humanity he addressed a group of ex-servicemen. “It is my privilege that I have the opportunity to pay my tributes to our brave soldiers here on this historic day,” he said. He went on to stress upon the work done by the Indian Army as part of rescue operations in case of

Here are top quotes from PM Modi’s address in Bhopal: 1. When we talk about our soldiers, it is mostly about their uniform, their valour but we must also see them as an example of humanity. 2. During floods in Srinagar, army men extended their help for the rescue and relief operation in the area. While extending help, my soldiers did not for once think that these are the same people who pelt stones at them. 3. India is one of the biggest contributors to the UN peacekeeping forces 4. While rescuing Indians in Yemen, Indian army also rescued a few Pakistanis, this is the example of humanity of our Indian army. 5. About 1.5 lakhs Indian soldiers fought and lost their lives during the two World Wars. World must never forget this. 6. Hindustan ka itihaas is baat ka gawah hai ki humare purvajon ne kisi ki ek inch zameen ko apna banane ke liye jhagda nahi kiya hai: PM Modi 7. Like our army doesn’t say but displays its valour, similarly our Defence Minister also doesn’t speak 8. Shaurya Smarak is a Tirtha Sthan for us and for our coming generations. 9. Govt decided to give skill development training to soldiers in last year of service so that they doesn’t have to struggle for jobs. 10. In some countries whenever people see jawans at airports or railway stations, they stand up and applause, we should also adopt this. 11. Our effort is to make India self-reliant in defence production. I am sure a day will come when we will also export weapons. 12. When I said our Army does not believe in speaking, critics would say Modi is sleeping, is doing nothing. 13. We have fulfilled the promise of OROP despite huge burden; other govts only made tall claims but never fulfilled them.

Why are you trying to bring in the name of Prime Minister and call him dictator,” Naidu told reporters. The Muslim Personal Law Board (MLPB) yesterday said it will ‘boycott’ a Law Commission questionnaire on religious

practices detrimental to women. It called the questionnaire - that seeks public opinion on backward religious practices - a ‘fraud’ and accused it of acting at the behest of the Centre. The Board also said the UCC “is not a good idea” for India. Naidu said some people were confusing the issue of triple talaq with Uniform Civil Code.

So, Brazil had called the Latin American countries in Fortaleza for an

However, since Pakistan was seen as a spoiler in the region, India decided to exclude them from the regional outreach, one reason being it wanted to avoid the inevitable China-Pakistan axis at the BRICS summit. As the host to the BRICS summit in Goa this weekend India will lay out the red carpet for the leaders of the group which was once seen to consist of the five emerging economies. Now, with the Brazilian and South African economies in slow motion, Russia struggling and China and India not growing as they earlier were, the grouping’s economic strength has taken a beating. Despite this, the West still watches the moves made by BRICS warily and follows its announcements very carefully, especially since the substantive part of the summits have been

He was identified as Pratap Chauhan (60), a resident of Khanda Hadmatiya. Police said he succumbed to injuries while being taken to hospital. “More than 20 lakh detonators were stored in the godown. 2 / Dt. 15-10-2016, Saturday Editors’ Picks saturday, october 15, 2016 Channels outraged over the Pak journalist, chose not to reflect within ?

This is about being Cyril and his cautionary tale. On Tuesday, most news channels — Times Now, India Today, CNN News 18, NDTV 24×7 and News X — extensively reported that Pakistani journalist Cyril Almeida, assistant editor Dawn, was placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) by the Pakistani government which, in effect, prevents him from leaving the country. Almeida, in a report published by the newspaper, claimed there was a deep rift between the civilian government and the military leadership in Pakistan over the country’s increasing isolation in the world, following recent Indo-Pak tensions. Since Tuesday, the English news channels fiercely and rightly so, criticised the Pakistan government’s action: “Pak muzzling media”, “Journalist targeted by Pak govt” “#PakGagsMedia”, “Nawaz gags the media”, “Media crackdown in the name of security”, howled TV headlines. Other Pakistani journalists, including Dawn editors, were interviewed across channels and given a sympathetic hearing. On Thursday, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said “credit” for the surgical strikes went largely to the PM. His comments that there were no surgical strikes in the past and “the frustration of 30 years were vented on September 29” were criticised by the Congress and other Opposition parties. On the Newshour Thursday evening, anchor Arnab Goswami questioned their questioning Parrikar: “Where is the politics (in Parrikar’s comments)? I don’t see (it). Does it occur to you that people of this country are angry with you for politicising this (the strikes)?’’ (Times Now). Last week, NDTV 24×7 chose to not air the full interview with Congress leader and former Home and Finance Minister P Chidambaram on the “surgical strikes”, telecasting only excerpts during the day. On Indian TV it seems to be the inverse. An important fallout of the Dawn episode in Pakistan — the targeting of a journalist by the government over a report that described a new face-off between the military and civilian leaderships amid the ongoing tensions with India — is that it has brought out into the open an issue the Pakistani state has attempted to paper over: Its support to the two main anti-India groups, Lashkar-e-Toiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and the Haqqani network. It was on this issue that the government and military are said to have clashed at the meeting last week, as reported by Dawn. From the reported proceedings of the meeting, it is apparent that at least the civilian leadership is seized of where Pakistan stands in the world today because of the security establishment’s long held policy of using proxy terrorist groups as an instrument to further its regional strategy. The Pakistan foreign minister, according to the report, delivered a blunt message: The world wants to know why Pakistan has not acted against Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar? There is little in the unfolding of events to suggest that the isolation that Pakistan feels now is an inflection point at which those who run the country realise it is time to drop the bad guys, or their “good terrorists”. The Pakistan security establishment continues to believe that the benefits of nurturing the LeT, JeM for proxy war with India are far higher than the costs. In the aftermath of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, there was even greater world pressure than now on Pakistan to crack down against the LeT/Jamat-ud-dawa.

QUOTE “About 1.5 lakhs Indian soldiers fought and lost their lives OF THE during the two World Wars. World must never forget - Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday this,” DAY inaugurated the newly built war memorial- Shaurya Samarak- in Bhopal, he said... Of dresses and gowns: When Sonam, Jacqueline and Nimrat made for a pretty picture

(H.S.) | New Delhi Sonam Kapoor’s love for Ralph & Russo couture is no secret. The Prem Ratan Dhan Payo actress has been spotted donning the designer’s creations on numerous occasions. Remember the white gown she wore at Cannes 2016 with the gorgeous train? Looks like Kapoor was in the mood for some more haute couture from the fashion house when she stepped out in this beautiful navy ensemble with featured applique work. The sheer fabric worked wonderfully to give it a rich look and pairing it with a bomber jacket

was pure genius. Celebrity stylist Namrata Soni did a great job by giving the actress marsala lips, a winged eyeliner look and an updo with a middle parting. Glamour at its best, we say. Meanwhile, Kapoor’s best friend Jacqueline Fernandez was seen rocking some really cool pastels at a recent event. The actress was spotted in a beautiful and soothing Christopher Kane gown. What caught our eye were the gorgeous pleats and the lace bodice with the pop of aqua blue and a slight sheen. Seriously, we haven’t seen pleats looking any better and we are glad

celebrity stylist Tanya Ghavri picked this look for Fernandez. Equally compelling was Daniel Bauer’s make-up. The leading stylist gave her a dewy and flawless shine with a beautiful flush of pink on her cheeks. Perfectly slicked-back hair, soft pink lips and lavender hue nail shade rounded out the look. There was another beauty who got people talking and it was none other than Nimrat Kaur. The actress was spotted in a bardot neckline dress by Gauri and Nainika, and she totally killed it! So much so, that we are in love with this look. Celebrity stylist Tanya Ghavri picked a beautiful necklace from Amrapali Jewels and a sleek pair of shoes from Charles & Keith to add a touch of monochrome. With hair in a ponytail, Kaur finished the look with nude make-up and soft pink lips.

‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ ban: Bollywood stands divided

In the wake of the Uri attacks and the subsequent IMPPA diktat of banning Pakistani artistes from working in the country, the members of Cinema Owners Exhibitors Association of India (COEAI) have now decided that no films starring any Pakistani actors will be released in theatres. This directly affects Karan Jo-

har’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, which stars Pakistani talent Fawad Khan. The film was set to hit the screens on October 28 but the latest directive of COEAI has left its release on shaky ground. However, the decision of banning ‘ADHM’ has seen mixed reactions in the industry. Director Vivek Agnihotri said, “It’s a bit excessive to not exhibit films which have been shot before

the crisis happened, but it’s a complex situation. If only Pakistani actors had said a few words, I don’t think people would have been so outraged. I think Pak actors instigated such a response by not showing any sympathy for victims of terror.” ‘Kurbaan’ director Rensil D’Silva said that the decision was an “unfortunate” one. He stated, They need to understand that a lot of money is riding on this film. Why should Karan Johar and the distributors suffer? I hope better sense prevails. We are all patriots and we all feel terrible about the attacks that happened. We all feel for the Army men who lost their lives. But I don’t think banning a film which stars Pakistani actors is the most appropriate solution.

Ok, so that was a bit of an exaggeration. But yes, we can all safely agree that both The Da Vinci Code, and its sequel Angels & Demons (which were both much better films that most give them credit for) were unfairly panned upon release. Some of those murmurs about Da Vinci Code getting booed for 15 minutes by angry Frenchmen immediately after its Cannes premiere in 2006 are still invoked when reminiscing about notorious cinematic disasters. But here’s the thing – and once again, this is something most would agree on – both films have, in the years that followed, developed quite an audience at home. And perhaps this is the only reason Tom Hanks and director Ron

Howard returned to make another. It would also explain why Inferno comes seven long years after Angels & Demons (an unusually long gap between films by any standard), and at a time when Dan Brown’s source novels are at their least popular. It’s difficult to get pumped for Inferno, but this time, they have that secret weapon (at least in our minds), don’t they? They have Irrfan Khan… But more on that later. Inferno immediately stands apart from its

two predecessors – in all the wrong ways. Right from the opening credits (which have the look and feel of something put together by a crunchedfor-time YouTube vlogger), it is clear that this time, Ron Howard didn’t have the luxury of a tentpole budget. But with so much talent involved, you’d think that they’d find a way around that, wouldn’t you? Maybe they’d embrace that pulp fiction origins of Dan Brown’s novels and make it more campy. But no.

Actor Tamannaah Bhatia has had a transition from regional to Bollywood films. Despite having a successful stint in Bollywood with films such as Himmatwala (2013), Humshakals (2014), Entertainment (2014) and her latest release Tutak Tutak Tutiya, she says, she will never ignore regional cinema. ““Even when I had three Hindi films happening at the same time. Tamil and Telugu will always be an important industry considering I started my career there. I owe all the name and fame I have earned to regional cinema. Even my Hindi film that did well was Baahubali, which was also from South. My loyalties are definitely

It’s important that if I do a Hindi films, I want it to be something that I can show to my friends and family and they feel proud of it and me being a part of such a project,” says, the 23 year old actor. Meanwhile, the actor has rubbished reports of a complaint had been filed against her with the South

Indian Artistes’ Association (SIAA) where producer RK Suresh accused the actor of being ‘unprofessional’ during the promotion of her film Dharma Durai. He alleged that Tamannaah was not available to promote his movie , which was released in August this year. These are baseless reports and false allegations. I have also spoken to my producer and he never lodged a complaint like that.

Frankly speaking, I will get to know after this practice session. Really looking forward to this one-day series. We have done well in the Test series, won 3-0, but it’s important to start fresh here. Again I will say, momentum will be the key and winning the first match will be important to gain that momentum. I am really excited about the new guys coming into the team. It’s really energising and everyone is looking in good shape. Guys have done well in the A series while few of them did well in the Ranji Trophy. I am really excited and looking forward to this series. I believe it’s completely mental adjustment because professional cricketers like us, it’s important to adjust to any format. Whether it’s

Test to T20 or one-day to Test. It’s important how we adjust mentally and getting used to the conditions will be, and is, a big factor. We are tuned into that and actually experienced in doing that. We don’t really think about getting into one-day from Test or T20s. It’s all about how you deal with a certain situation, factor. I will stick to my strength and mental adjustment in ODIs will be the key. As of now, it’s important to focus on this series. There is still time for the Champions Trophy, still

a long way to go. As of now, it’s all about giving new guys confidence and opportunity to do well at the highest level. We are just looking at this series right now. We are going to play one match at a time and obviously win this series. Discipline will be the key and the kind of cricket we played in Test series – our intent was aggressive all the time. So here again our intent will be to remain aggressive, play intense cricket and play to our strengths rather than focussing on their strengths or weaknesses.

players showed up in gaps between the spreadout Goans to buck their passing, and thus probe for a chance at goal. The ball slipped into Chennaiyin’s possession soon after, and stayed with it for 56 per cent of the first-half. Davide Succi couldn’t get to, and make a chance out of, Mehrajuddin Wadoo’s long ball from the right, from just inside the top-half; in the same way as Jerry’s long-ball from left midfield proved uneventful awhile after. Succi backheeled a pass to Raphael

Augusto inside the box, but the latter was choked for space, with three opponents converging on him as soon as he sought to advance to goal. Then the goals came. Two, off Chennaiyin’s two shots on goal in the first half. Hans Mulder, given liberal time and space, sent the ball across to the right corner of the net from the edge of the box in the 15th minute. The second came in the 26th minute. Goa had none but one of its own to blame — Rafael Dumas’s attempted clearance of a header off Wadoo’s intended cross to the far post from just outside the box on the right, went into the net, prompting a desperate dive from the goalkeeper. For Goa, a chance that Wadoo’s passing lapse presented in the 42nd minute, qualified as its stiffest threat before the break; Rafael Coelho’s curler from the edge of the box on the left, for the top right corner of the net, went agonisingly off-target for the extra thrust applied on it.

Scientists unveil proposals for ‘first nation state in space’

Agency | London In a move aimed at fostering peace, opening up access to space technologies and offering protection for citizens of planet Earth, a team of scientists and legal experts unveiled proposals for the “first nation state in space”, media reported. The “new nation” — dubbed “Asgardia” after one of the mythical worlds inhabited by the Norse gods — will eventually become a member of the United Nations, with its own flag and anthem devised by members of the public through a series of competitions, according to the team, the Guardian reported on Wednesday. Asgardia “will offer an independent platform free from the constraint of a landbased country’s laws,” according to the project website. “For the first time in history a new nation state has been created — not on Earth but in the heavens above,” read a statement at asgardia.space “Asgardia is the prototype of a free and unrestricted society which holds knowledge, intelligence and science at its core along with the recognition of the ultimate value of each human life,” it said. ccording to the project website any human living on Earth can become a citizen of Asgardia.

Samsung on Friday said the crisis over its exploding Note 7 smartphones would cost another $3 billion-plus in lost profit over the next two quarters, but hoped expanded sales of its other flagship handset would help cushion the impact. The profit warning came two days after the South Korean electronics giant slashed its operating profit for the third quarter by $2.3 billion. After a recall problem with the large-sized Galaxy Note 7 turned into a full-blown crisis, Samsung announced earlier this week that it was scrapping the model entirely, a devastating move for a company that prides itself on the quality production of cutting-edge technology. On top of the third-quarter loss, Samsung said the drop in sales arising from the decision to discontinue the Note 7 would continue to impact profit margins in October-March, including the crucial holiday buying season.

President Anurag Thakur’s affidavit, to be submitted in the Supreme Court, will be the focal point of discussions when the BCCI’s affiliated units meet for a Special General Meeting (SGM) on Saturday to deliberate upon implementation of the Lodha Committee Reforms. Other issues that could be discussed at length are the “one state one vote” recommendation and the three-year tenure with a three-year cooling off period. The apex court had directed Thakur to file an affidavit and clarify whether he had asked the ICC to write that the Lodha recommendations amounted to government interference. This was reportedly claimed by ICC chief

executive Dave Richardson in recent media interactions. The BCCI legal team is preparing the affidavit. According to sources close to the BCCI president, he only “followed up on former president Shashank Manohar’s earlier plea wherein he (Manohar) had stated the appointment of CAG representative in Apex Council will subject to

interference”. “Since the issue was only raised by Shashank, Anurag was following up on that,” a reliable source agency. In Dharamsala, winter is already setting in and the temperature is hovering between 13-22 degrees Celsius, so the challenge for both the teams will be to acclimatise fast. The Himachal cricket body (HPCA), as has been its tradition, has offered prayers to the local deity Indru Nag to keep rains away for

the smooth conduct of the match. Dharamsala is back in the mix after being stripped of the India-Pakistan World T20 tie due to security concerns. The organisers are looking forward to hosting the opening game of this series. “See, there were many external factors, including politics at work, at that time. This time around, there is no such thing and we are confident of conducting a good match without hiccups,” HPCA spokesperson Sanjay Sharma said. This series also came under a cloud after the Supreme Court froze the allocation of funds to BCCI’s state associations until they accepted the Lodha Committee recommendations.

In the first game under charge for Delhi in ISL 2016, Zambrotta showed his intentions for the season by beating Chennaiyin FC 3-1.

The Black Caps will be happy to escape from the heat of the 0-3 Test series loss in the cool climes of Dharamsala, venue of the first ODI on Sunday. They will also have good memories of the stadium nestled in the Dhauladhar range. It was here in March that they

India top force in Kabaddi but can we stay there? India has dominated the game of Kabaddi for a long time but other nations are catching up, as evident in the Kabaddi World Cup, Ahmedabad. Amidst all the headlines that are being grabbed the Line of Control and the assorted chest thumping and head banging that goes along, it’s nice to shift to stuff that is little more innocent and even funny. For those participating in the Kabaddi World Cup in Ahmedabad, it may be serious business, but truth be told, it will take long time before staged tournaments in front of even more staged crowds really grab the attention of the world. That being said, it’s still quite fascinating to see who all is playing a game we thought was restricted to rural games at its basic form, to demonstration game in India. It did qualify as almost a guaranteed gold medal for India at the Asian Games. But the final at Incheon Asiad in the October of 2014 showed us that it was no longer a given. Iran ran India ragged and it was sheer inexperience and youthful exuberance that cost them the gold medal. The world was changing on the kabaddi court, and the World Cup being played now shows the signs. This won’t be the first sport where national ascendancy has been sacrificed at the altar of broadcasters’ need for making money. So we had the Pro Kabaddi Premier League (can someone at least be original about naming these tournament?) and players from all corners began coming into the fold. We had Koreans, we had Iranians, and soon it was quite the League of Nations. The results were there for all to see. India lost to Korea in the very first match and it no longer was the cakewalk it was predicted to be. Quite fascinating, the spread of teams. Apart from the hosts, Korea and Iran, we have sides from countries like Kenya, the US, Poland, England, Australia, Thailand and even Argentina! One really wonders where and how this sport got to those distant lands. Would be quite fascinating to find out how they play these games there. This is quite like hockey actually. For decades, no one could touch India. Then, for a decade almost, India couldn’t touch anyone. Incidentally, there was a Hockey Premier League too. So is kabaddi headed that way? Will we soon see India succumb to the patriarchal and complacent culture of the sport in India being overtaken by the world? Will the rules change? Will the raiders soon have to chant “buddy, buddy, buddy” because the Big Three (the moneyed class) can’t pronounce “kabaddi, kabaddi, kabaddi”? You

Gujarat set to get three pharma parks Sunvilla News | Ahmedabad

Announcing three pharmaceutical projects for Gujarat — a bulk drug manufacturing park, a pharmaceutical formulations park and a medical devices park — Ananth Kumar, Union Minister of Chemical and Fertilizers, said Thursday that “brand India exists because of brand Gujarat”. He said: “India is known as the pharmacy of the world, but Gujarat is India’s pharmacy… Today if there is any

region where an ideal atmosphere for pharmaceuticals exists, then it is in Gujarat.” He was addressing the inaugural session of 7th edition of Pharmac India organised by Indian Drug Manufa-ctures’ Association. He said , “We have given you a challenge — both to the Gujarat government and the pharmaceutical industry. We are ready to give all the three parks, now go ahead and become a global pharma hub.”

think that’s funny? Have you seen how the rules have changed in hockey? All because the money folk can’t dribble! Make no mistake, India’s domination of the kabaddi courts is a limited offer deal. We will soon be giving ground to some countries. And once they become successful, things may change. That would be interesting to watch. The numbers game: Much hue and cry going on nowadays about India becoming the No. 1 Test side in the world. As things go in terms of being the top team, that’s all good. If there is a list, never mind how insignificant of short, it’s still nice to be on top. What else is there celebrate? The ICC mace, the sign of supremacy in Test cricket, was handed over to Virat Kohli, quite dramatically on Dussehra day, as good overcame evil with an assortment of weapons, including the mace. India have vanquished all, but most of those defeated really didn’t have the ammunition to be a realistic challenge. If the West Indies series was a calculation point, or even the just-concluded New Zealand series, then the mace isn’t as potent as it looks. Simply because the opposition barely passed muster. The real challenge is still to come. England will be way tougher, as will Australia, though the Aussies are really facing the heat in South Africa. England have shown in Bangladesh that they are pretty well equipped for the limited-overs format. Not quite the Test format, but with Alastair Cook coming back to head things, it will be quite the show. As of now, the Indian bowling is having a field day, especially since Kohli just refuses to lose any tosses. But there will be such days. There will be days when batsmen like Cook will big in and just not get out. There will be days when the powerhouses of our bowling attack – Ravichandran Ashwin and the surprising Ravindra Jadeja – will be attacked an punished. There will be days when we will have to chase 300-plus with a day and bit left. Those will be the days when we will know what the thing is about being No. 1. Who hasn’t been on top of the ICC rankings? As far as my recollection goes, six of the nine Test-playing countries have at some time or the other been top guns. The only thing about being on top of any list is the devilishly difficult job of staying there. So let’s focus on staying on the ground and winning stuff, shall we? That tops every chart.

A 40-year-old man wanted in India in connection with post-Godhra riots in Gujarat in 2002 will be extradited from the UK to stand trial in India, UK Home Office announced today. Samir Vinubhai Patel had been arrested by Scotland Yard in west London in August on a Red Corner Notice issued by the Indian authorities. His extradition order was signed by UK home secretary Amber Rudd on September 22 and now officials are in the process of finalising “surrender arrangements”. “On 22 September, the Secretary of State (Rudd), having carefully considered all relevant matters, signed the order for Samirbhai Vinubhai Patel’s extra-

dition to India. He is accused, whilst being part of a rioting mob, of three counts of murder, two counts of using unlawful violence with others for a common purpose and one count of arson,” a UK Home Office spokesperson said today. According to Gujarat Police, Patel is wanted in connection with riots in Ode village of Anand district after he had escaped to the UK by jumping bail a few years ago. However, we are unable to comment on any surrender arrangements as this is an operational matter for the police,” a UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) statement said. At that time, he had an altercation with some upper caste Kathi-Darbar youths of the village,” he said.

Failed to control ‘small’ Delhi, Kejriwal trying to mislead people of Gujarat: Nitin Patel

Sunvilla News | Rajkot

Claiming that AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal had failed to control a very small state like Delhi as Chief Minister and was now trying to mislead the people of Gujarat which was well led, prosperous and a development model for the rest of the country, Deputy Chief Minister and Senior BJP leader Nitin Patel today said that Kerjriwal’s visit would not have any impact on the ‘wise’ people of this state. Talking to newsmen here Mr Patel said, ‘Kejriwal is CM of Del-

hi where the administration is in very poor state. There is no development and he had not fulfilled the promises he made to the people during his election campaign there. Many of his ministers and MLAs have been found involved in various corruption cases and showed characterless behaviour. Even the court has punished his ministers.’ ‘Now this man who could not handle a small state like Delhi is trying to mislead the people of Gujarat who already know that they were fully secured in the

BJP regime under which the state has seen prosperity and development. The development journey started during the regime of the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi has made Gujarat a model for other states,’ he said. He said that Kejriwal, who was on a four day visit of Gujarat from today, had visited the state many times in the past and his party had contested many elections in the state including assembly polls without any success. ‘Every one is free to come to this state and especially when the assembly elections are going to be held next year, leaders of many political parties are doing so to gain political benefit but as the people of Gujarat are wise they won’t be mislead by them. Kejriwal is also free to come to Gujarat as many times as he wishes but it won’t make any difference,’ Mr Patel said.

Another big hoarding on the Unjha-Mahesana highway says that Kejriwal should not spread foul smell beyond Delhi (in Unjha),as Unjha is a land famous for the pleasant smell of Jeera (Cumin) and Saunf (Fennel). Earlier anti Kejriwal posters were seen in Surat, Ahmedabad and Vadodara of which some even equaled him with terrorists like slain Hizbul Mujahidin leader Burhan Wani, LeT leader Hafiz Saeed and Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden terming all of them ‘Heroes of Pakistan’.

Chaube was confined to Mumbai as per his bail condition set by the Supreme Court in 2014. Recently, his bail was modified, which allowed him to return to Gujarat. The

development came a day after the government, in a reshuffle of IPS officers, appointed Rajkumar Pandian and Abhay Chudasama — both discharged by the special CBI court in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case — as inspector general (Junagadh range) and deputy inspector general (Panchmahal), respectively.

Hoardings unwelcoming Arvind Kejriwal surface in North Gujarat Sunvilla News | Ahmedabad

Amid the intensifying opposition of AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from various quarters on his statement regarding Indian armed force’s surgical strikes on the terror launch pads in PoK, large hoardings and posters against him have popped up in and around Unjha town of Mahesana district in North Gujarat, a known fortress of Patidar community, where he will be going tomorrow as part of his four day trip to the state beginning today. ‘Namak Hindustan Ka Khata Hai Aur Geet Pakistan Ka Gaata Hai’ (Consumes Indian Salt but Supports Pakistan), one of the hoardings in

Gujarat government brings back retired cop Tarun Barot accused in Ishrat Jahan case

Sunvilla News | Ahmedabad

Sunvilla News | Ahmedabad

The Gujarat High Court on Thursday issued notices to the state government, Gujarat Waqf Board and Central Waqf Council on a public interest litigation (PIL), challenging the state Waqf Board’s move for allegedly granting “unauthorised and illegal” sale permit of Waqf properties. This is the second PIL that has challenged the functioning of the Waqf Board, saying the tenure of the members ended on February 21 this year, and sought the court’s direction for the appointment of a new Board. These PILs have been filed by a body called Save Waqf Properties, through its chairman. The division bench of Chief Justice R

Former “encounter specialist” Tarun Barot, currently on bail in the Ishrat Jahan and the Sadiq Jamal Mehtar encounter cases, was brought back to service by the Gujarat government on Thursday, nearly two years after his retirement. In a notification, the home department stated that Barot (62), who retired as deputy superintendent of police (DySP), has been appointed as DySP, headquarters, Western Railway, Vadodara on a one-year contract. Another police officer, B R Chaube, currently on bail in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter, has been brought back in Gujarat as DySP, State Reserve Police Force, Viramgam in

Subhash Reddy and Justice V M Pancholi issued notices in connection with both the PILs to the state and other parties. The petitioner has said that the amended Waqf Act of November 2013, Section 51 (1)(A), prohibits “gift, sale, exchange or mortgage” of the Waqf properties after the amended act came into effect. It alleged that Waqf Board chairman A I Saiyed himself granted permission for the sale of Waqf properties with CEO Gulam Mustufa Khan raising no objection, adding that the sale was “illegally perpetrated”.
