Gyanvapi case: Varanasi court postpones judgment on plea seeking ‘Shivling’ worship till November 17 Agency News : New Delhi A fast-track court on Monday postponed till November 17 its judgment on a plea seeking permission to allow the worship of a “Shivling” claimed to have been found inside the Gyanvapi mosque complex here. Civil Judge Mahendra Pandey postponed the judgment till November 17, Assistant District Government Counsel Sulabh Prakash said. After hearing the arguments of both the sides to the dispute, the court had, on October 27, reserved its order on the suit for November 8.As the judge was on leave on November 8, the matter was posted for Monday. On May 24, plaintiff Kiran Singh, general secretary of the Vishwa Vedic Sanatan Sangh, filed the suit in the Varanasi district court, seeking a ban on the entry of Muslims into the Gyanvapi complex, handing over of the complex to the Sanatan Sangh and permission to offer prayers to the “Shivling”. On May 25, District Judge A K Vishvesh had ordered the transfer of the suit to the fast-track court.

The Varanasi district magistrate, the police commissioner, the Anjuman Intezamia Committee, which manages the affairs of the Gyanvapi mosque, and the Vishwanath Temple Trust were made respondents in the suit. On April 26, a lower court (civil judge-senior division) that was earlier hearing a plea moved by a group of women seeking permission for the daily worship of the idols of the Hindu deities on the mosque’s outer walls had ordered a videographic survey of the Gyanvapi complex. The Hindu side had claimed that a “Shivling” was found inside the mosque complex during the exercise. However, the Muslim side has maintained that the structure was part of the fountain mechanism at the “wazookhana” reservoir, where devotees carry out ritual ablutions before offering “namaz”.

Agency News : New Delhi Over 1.5 million people in 45 high-burden countries, including India, are estimated to have had a missed or delayed tuberculosis diagnosis in 2020 due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a study. The research, published in the journal BMC Medicine, shows that children may be disproportionately affected in over half of countries analysed, those aged 65 or over in more than two thirds of countries, with sex being a risk factor in almost half of countries. The team, including researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK, noted that vulnerable populations in high-burden countries worldwide must be prioritised in efforts to reduce the impact of the COVID-19

pandemic on tuberculosis (TB) care. “Our results show that in many countries those who already faced the most difficulty in obtaining TB diagnosis and care have suffered worsening access as a result of the pandemic,” said study joint lead author Finn McQuaid, from LSHTM. “While we look to build back and mitigate the impact COVID-19 has had on those with TB, it’s vital that we focus on those most in need; not just out of a duty to address these inequalities, but to have any hope of ending TB,” McQuaid said.

A bench of justices Ajay Rastogi and CT Ravi Kumar said it is not inclined to interfere with the September 16 order of the Delhi High Court as it is an interim

order. Senior advocate Maneka Guruswamy, appearing for Hussain, said it is a settled law that there cannot be two FIRs for the same incident. She said it has put Hussain in a peculiar situation that charges are framed against him for identical offences arising out of the same incident, and the same prosecution witnesses are relied upon by the investigating agency. Hussain has moved the top court challenging the Delhi High Court’s September 16 order.

Gujarat Polls: Congress Work- ‘Completely Unwarranted’: Mamata ers Vandalise Party HQ, Say Our Banerjee on TMC Minister’s DerogSUNVILLA SAMACHAR Leaders Took Money to Give atory Remarks on Prez Murmu Swing issue: the debate shaping Ticket to Jamalpur MLA Agency News : New Delhi midterm elections in US Jamalpur-Khadia West Bengal Chief Minister Editorial

Mid-term elections in the United States of America are often seen as a referendum on the incumbent president halfway through his term. But in the elections on November 8, a more direct concern was on the ballot: anger and fear over the erosion of reproductive rights for women five months after the US Supreme Court struck down Roe versus Wade, a 1973 judgment that guaranteed abortion rights nationally. California and Vermont, Democratic Party bastions, voted for measures that strengthen abortion rights in their state Constitutions. Voters in Michigan, a swing state, did the same. In Republican-leaning Montana and Kentucky, voters rejected ballot proposals that aimed to limit the reproductive rights of women. Pro-abortion rights candidates won key elections to the posts of governors and to the Congress. These results add to evidence — also indicated in multiple voter surveys — that the Supreme Court’s decision was out of sync with the broad national mood. The vote in the US also offers pointers to the future of the abortion debate globally. Recent years have seen traditionally conservative nations in Latin America and Africa embrace increasingly liberal laws on abortion. The sheer weight of evidence showing how restrictive reproductive laws force women to undertake risky, clandestine abortions, leading to high mortality rates, is hard to ignore. Mexico, Argentina and Colombia have all decriminalised abortion over the past two years. Sierra Leone is moving in that direction. Ireland, a bastion of conservative Catholicism, allowed abortion up to 12 weeks of gestation after a 2018 referendum. Meanwhile, in India, the Supreme Court has steadily strengthened the abortion rights regime. In September, the court not only upheld the right to abortion for unmarried women but also made clear that it would place the lived experiences of women front and centre while deciding on the subject. The court indicated that it would support abortion rights for victims of marital rape — otherwise not punishable in India. But India’s lawmakers need to do more. Legally, abortion is still banned in India except under specific circumstances. The onus is on women and abortion providers to prove that they meet those conditions. Research shows that this hurts women from disadvantaged backgrounds. Unlike in the US, India’s Supreme Court has shown the way. Parliament must now change the law - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara to bring it into the 21st century.

In all other princely states, 500+, Sardar Patel ensured that the kings and queens were brought on board. There was no question of plebiscite or taking views of people or any other organisations. The Three Lions outsmarted Babar Azam’s Pakistan to win the big final at a jam-packed Melbourne Cricket Ground. England are now the second team after the West Indies to win the coveted silverware twice in the past 15 years. Also, they are the first-ever cricket team to hold the 50-over and T20 World Cup simultaneously. Following their title triumph, the England cricket team has been awarded whopping prize money of USD 1.6 million for defeating Pakistan. The showpiece event came to a thrilling climax at the MCG with England winning by five wickets to lift their second

T20 World Cup and claiming the biggest purse from a prize pool of USD5.6 million. Runnersup Pakistan will receive exactly half the amount that England got (USD 800,000), while the two losing semifinalists – India

and New Zealand – will collect USD 400,000 apiece. While Buttler’s victorious side will receive the highest amount, all 16 teams will be rewarded for their efforts in Australia with a payout, according to ICC. The eight teams

that exited at the Super 12 stage will receive USD70,000 each. Like last year at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, a win in each of the 30 games in the Super 12 phase is worth $40,000 to each team. The four teams that were knocked out in the first round — UAE, Scotland, Namibia, and West Indies -will get USD40,000 each, but each side will also receive an additional USD40,000 for each win they picked up during the First Round. Earlier on Sunday, Sam Curran (3/12) was impressive upfront and in death overs, while Rashid (2/22) was stunning in the middle overs as England’s meticulous planning and tactics, especially in the second half of the innings, meant they never let Pakistan getaway at any stage to restrict them to a below-par score.

‘If I was running Indian cricket...’: Michael Vaughan advises BCCI to take inspiration from England’s success Agency News : Melbourne Former England skipper Michael Vaughan reckons India, who were given a 10-wicket hammering at the hands of Buttler & Co in the semifinal, to take a leaf out of England’s successful run as a dominating white-ball side in international cricket. England, captained by Jos Buttler, won their second T20 World Cup trophy at the MCG on Sunday. With the win, the Three Lions become the first

side to hold both the ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup at the same time. And Vaughan, in his column for The Telegraph, urged the Indian board to emulate English cricket. “If I was running Indian cricket I would swallow my pride and look at England for inspiration,” Vaughan wrote. “This group of England whiteball players is extraordinary and for once English cricket has a trendsetting team the rest of the world should emulate,” he added.

Govt recommends revised Archean Chemicals IPO timeline to assess combina- GMP, Share Allotment tions under competition law to be Finalised Soon Agency News : New Delhi

The revised timelines proposed in the competition law will help in making the assessment of combinations swift and time-bound as well as provide certainty to businesses, according to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA). A bill to amend the Competition Act is now being examined by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance. One of the amendments proposed is to reduce the time limit for approval of combinations to 150 days from the current 210 days and another is that the Competition Commission of India (CCI) has to form a prima facie opinion within

20 days for expeditious approval of combinations. Generally, mergers and acquisitions are referred to as combinations in competition law parlance. The corporate affairs ministry has said the overall time limit for assessment of combinations is being reduced to make the process swift and time-bound. “Time frame of 20 days will provide certainty in terms of a prima facie view failing which it will be considered as deemed approved. This will provide certainty to businesses,” the ministry said in a recent submission made before the panel. This was in response to comments made by various stakeholders on the changes proposed to the competition law.

Telugu Producers Coun- Raj Arjun Says He Felt Hitting cil Targets Dil Raju Over Rashmika Mandanna in Dear Comrade was ‘Too Toxic’ Vijay’s Varisu Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming Tamil film Varisu has a big Telugu connection. It has been directed by Vamshi Paidipalli, who works mostly in the Telugu industry and it has been produced by leading Telugu film producer Dil Raju. Hence, it might come naturally to the makers to release the film on a grand scale in both Tamil and Telugu during the Pongal festival. While Varisu will have 500 screens dedicated to it in Tamil Nadu, the Telugu version will also have a lot of screens allotted in the Teluguspeaking states. Producer Dil Raju controls about 40% of theatres in the Andhra-Telangana region and he plans to release the Telugu version of Varisu in these

theatres. However, his decision is being met with staunch opposition from the Telugu Film Chamber as they are protesting against a non-Telugu film receiving so many screens. According to the Telugu Film Chamber secretary Prasanna Kumar, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Veerasimha Reddy and Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya, which are releasing on Pongal should be prioritized over Varisu. Dil Raju has become a victim of the statement that he gave to the media three years

back when Rajinikanth’s Petta was released during Pongal in 2019. At that time, Prasanna Kumar had released the Telugu version of the film in the Teluguspeaking states and Dil Raju had protested against it, saying that only original Telugu films should get screens during the festival. However, his decision to release Varisu in Telugu during Pongal now contradicts his statement. Stressed out, the distributors of Varisu are increasing their pressure on Dil Raju to delay Varisu. Dil Raju might have to postpone the Telugu version or make do with fewer screens. Even if he can lock additional screens for Varisu, he might be forced to give it up if Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy both get favourable feedback.

The 50-year-old actor played the antagonist in the Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda starrer Dear Comrade which was released in the year 2019. The film’s plot revolves around an ambitious Lilly essayed by Rashmika Mandanna, who is also

a state-level cricket player, and her love interest, student union leader Chaitanya Krishna aka Bobby (Vijay Deverakonda). Raj Arjun plays the villain - Ramesh Rao, south-zone selector for BCCI, who lusts for Lilly. In one of the important sequences of the film, Raj’s character Ramesh hits Lilly aka Rashmika, as he intends to punish her for raising her voice against him. Raj Arjun talked about the sequence, and also talked about his off-screen equations with Rashmika and Vijay. Speaking about his offscreen relationship while shooting with the GoodBye actress, Raj Arjun said, “It was a really fun experience. Rashmika is a lovely

soul. She is very humble. She also liked me and in between the shoot, she used to tell me again and again, ‘Sir you know how much I like you. You know how much I respect you.’ She said this very often. She is very down to earth.” Raj shared he felt bad about hitting Rashmika during Dear Comrade shoot. He said, “I’d sympathised with her during the shoot and I thought I’m being too toxic.”Further, the Sabka Sai actor shared the details about a scene which was shot in the bathroom. “I suggested that scene should be shot in the washroom, and it was actually to be shot in the hall where all the girls were supposed to sit and I deliver my dialogues.

The three-day bidding for the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Archean Chemical, from November 9 to 11, recorded a strong response from investors. The support from investors, as well as the sentiment on Dalal Street, has led to the grey market price (GMP) of Archean Chemicals stocks rising quickly. According to market observers, the grey market is offering shares of Archean Chemical Industries Limited at a premium of Rs 85 today, the Mint reported. The GMP of a stock is useful in determining the kind of impact investor sentiment of an IPO may have on the company’s performance.A strong GMP often signals a greater likelihood of listing gains. Experts have said that concerning the Archean Chemical IPO, the rise in grey

market sentiments could be the courtesy of a change in Dalal Street sentiments. The strong response from bidders has further bolstered this. While the grey market was already bullish on Archean Chemical IPO, the sentiment emanating from Dalal Street has served as another feather on the hat. Analysts are expecting the mood of the grey market to climb still as the share allotment date is fast approaching. Investors eagerly await the allotment date of the IPO, which is expected to fall on November 16. The company’s IPO got subscribed to 32.23 times.
