After three students in Rajasthan’s Kota committed suicide, the administration has directed the coaching class operators to form an action plan to ensure that the students live stress-free life while availing a week off. Inspector General of Police G. Prasanna Jeet Khemsara on Tuesday held a meeting with the coaching operators where discussion was done on the compliance of the guidelines issued for coaching institutes. It was also decided to form an action plan to make the students stress free to prevent depression and suicides. The IG later told the media that the coaching institute operators have been asked to prepare an action plan so that the children can stay stress free and get a decent school-college.
BJP president J P Nadda will be on a day-long tour of Karnataka and Telangana on Thursday as the party turns its focus on southern states with an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Party sources said Nadda will chair oganisational meetings in Karnataka, where assembly polls are expected in the first half of the next year, and address a public meeting at Karimnagar in Telangana, a state high on the BJP’s political agenda. The BJP has emerged as a main challenger to the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, the rechristened version of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha in April this year. The bill seeks to amend the

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said it would consider a plea for an early listing of submissions challenging the Centre’s decision in August 2019 to abrogate Article 370 revoking the special status enjoyed by Jammu and Kashmir. “We will examine and give a date,” a bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha said when intervenor academic and author Radha Kumar sought an early listing sought early listing of the petitions on the issue.Earlier on April 25 and September 23 of this year, a Bench headed by then CJI N V Ramana had agreed to list the case. In 2020, the Constitution Bench refused to set up a larger bench, taking a stand that there was no conflict between the two judgments in 1959 and 1970 as pleaded by People’s Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) J&K High Court Bar Association and an intervenor. They had claimed a conflict in the two judgments, one by Prem Nath Kaul vs J&K in 1959 and another by Sampat Prakash vs J&K in 1970.

The wholesale price-based inflation fell to a 21-month low of 5.85 per cent in November as prices of food, fuel and manufactured items softened. The WPI (wholesale price index) based inflation has been on a declining trend since May and came down to single digit in October at 8.39 per cent. Experts said a high base of last year and some easing in food prices also worked in favour of the November 2022 wholesale price index coming in at its lowest level since February 2021 when it was 4.83 per cent. “Decline in the rate of inflation in November 2022 is primarily contributed by fall in prices of food articles, basic metals, textiles, chemicals & chemical products and paper & paper products as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year,” the commerce and industry ministry said on Wednesday. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman
told Parliament that the government will work for the common man to further bring down inflation. “Inflation management or control... Prime Minister Modi and his group of ministers and officers are taking periodic interventions and measures as a result of which we find the results coming in,” Sitharaman said while replying to supplementary demands for grants for 2022-23 fiscal in the Lok Sabha. Inflation in food articles in November was 1.07 per cent against 8.33 per cent in the previous month.

In partial modification to its earlier directive, the Department of Expenditure in an office memorandum said it has been decided to now “allow the printing of calendar by ministries/ departments/autonomous bodies and other organs of the government”.

India plans to commission 20 nuclear power plants by 2031, adding nearly 15,000 MW in power generating capacity, the government told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The first of these 20 nuclear power plants, a 700 MW unit, is expected to be commissioned in 2023 at Kakrapar in Gujarat, which already has three atomic power generating units operational. According to a written reply by Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh, the 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam is likely to be operational in 2024, followed by two 1,000 MW units at Kudankulam in 2025. Two 700 MW units at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan are likely to be completed by 2026, while another two 1,000 MW units are likely to be completed at Kudankulam by 2027, he said. In addition, government had accorded administrative approvals and financial sanctions for building 10 atomic power units of 700 MW
each at Gorakhpur, Haryana (units 3&4), Kaiga, Karnataka (units 5&6), Chutka, Madhya Pradesh (units 1&2) and four units at Mahi Banswara in Rajasthan. These 10 nuclear power units are likely to be completed progressively by 2031, Singh said. In a written reply to a separate question, Singh said the Kundankulam Nuclear Power Project (units 1&2) had contributed 48,382 Million Units of electricity to the national grid between 2017-18 and 2021-22. The minister said the total number of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited employees at present at Kudankulam site (KKNPP Units 1 to 6) was 1,257. Singh said of these, 810 employees are domiciles of Tamil Nadu.

The record-breaking win in the Gujarat assembly election was the BJP’s saving grace. Senior party leaders are of the view that if it wasn’t for the BJP’s win in Gujarat, then a negative campaign had been created in the media over the results. The MCD and Himachal Pradesh results would have made them come up with headlines like this: ‘Second defeat for BJP in 24 hours’. But the massive victory in Gujarat ended the party’s headline tension. What happened in Gujarat after BJP’s win is called Modi’s style of work and vision. Everyone in the party has been told to adopt it. The vision is that the committee to appoint the legislature party leader must have Rajnath Singh as the senior most leader as well as BS Yediurappa and Arjun Munda as members. Karnataka will go to polls in April so Yediurappa must get prominence. And Arjun Munda? Well, Gujarat has a lot of Adivasi seats and also because Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, which have many Adivasi voters, are going to polls next year. It means even the legislature party committee is being formed with long-term politics in mind. A large number of officials seek postings in Kota just, for this reason, he wrote. “My suggestion is that the police should investigate the role of the coaching institute in the suicide and register an FIR against them,” the former minister in Ashok Gehlot’s government said.

9 States Have Withdrawn General Consent to CBI: Union Minister Jitendra Singh Agency News: New Delhi Nine states, including Telangana and Meghalaya, have withdrawn general consent given to the Central Bureau of Investigation for probing certain offences, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Wednesday. As per section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act, 1946, the CBI needs consent from the respective state governments to conduct investigations in their jurisdiction, he said in reply to a written question in Lok Sabha. In terms of the provision of section 6 of the DSPE Act, 1946, the state governments have granted general consent to the CBI for
the investigation of a specified class of offences against specified categories of persons, enabling the agency to register and investigate those specified matters, Singh, the Minister of State for Personnel, said. Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana and West Bengal have withdrawn general consent to the CBI to investigate cases, he added.

Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said that the G20 summit will provide a good opportunity to develop the national capital further and asserted that the guests will be welcomed with a “festive mood”. India formally assumed the G20 Presidency on December 1. The next G20 Leaders’ Summit at the level of Heads of State/ Government is scheduled to be held on next year on September 9 and 10 in New Delhi. Sisodia attended a meeting chaired by Delhi LG V K Saxena to review and take stock of the preparations for the G20 summit. “It is a big thing for India that we have got the opportunity to host the G20 summit. It is a bigger thing for Delhi,” he told. Noting that the Delhi government has the responsibility of hosting the guests, he said that they want to host them properly. “We have to ensure that the guests feel good and they get the best of facilities. There was a good discussion and all departments have already started working on it,” he added. Calling the G20 summit a good opportunity to showcase Delhi’s rich cultural legacy and uniqueness, he said that it would
also facilitate further development of Delhi and key markets, and parks will be beautified. “One lakh guests are expected for the summit and Delhi will welcome them with a festive mood so that they take back a good impression of our country,” he said. Sisodia said that there are multiple departments working on the preparations for the summit like the NDMC, Delhi government’s Horticulture Department, PWD, etc. The country will host more than 200 preparatory meetings across the country beginning this month. The G20 or Group of 20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies. It comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union (EU).

The Delhi High court on Wednesday adjourned till February 8, 2023, the hearing on Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) president Shibu Soren’s plea against the Lokpal’s notice in a disproportionate assets case. Listing the matter for further hearing, the court said that no further adjournment will be given in the case. His lawyer had sought adjournment in the case. On November 28, the Lokpal had informed the court that it is well within its rights to initiate an inquiry against Soren. Solicitor
General Tushar Mehta had appeared for Lokpal of India. A preliminary inquiry was directed by the Lokpal in the notice into the disproportionate assets case by CBI under the Lokpal & Lokayuktas Act, 2013. In its affidavit to the court, the Lokpal had stated that such an inquiry is initiated only to ascertain whether there exists a prima facie case for proceeding in the matter while a direction to conduct a preliminary inquiry is not a determination of the merit of a complaint and does not prejudice the public servant concerned in any manner.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra on Wednesday took objection to actor Deepika Padukone’s costume in a song of Bollywood film “Pathaan” and said if certain scenes are not “corrected”, the government will consider what to do about its screening. Wheat stock in the country has fallen to its lowest in six years and the prices have also jumped to a record high on rising demand and falling inventories, according to a Reuters report quoting government data. The total wheat reserves in state stores stood at 19 million tonnes at the start of this month, lower than 37.85 million tonnes on December 1, 2021. The report added that the current stocks for December are at the lowest since 2016, when inventories had fallen to 16.5 million tonnes because of backto-back droughts in 2014 and 2015 that curtailed wheat output. “The new crop supplies would start only after four months. The government’s task of calm prices is becoming more difficult every month. It can’t release more than 2 million tonnes in a month to bring down prices. They allegedly discovered violations in their GST returns on the purchase of filmmaking equipment and the related taxes. The officials also reportedly verified the GST returns of last year and

In the ‘Fuel and power’ basket, inflation was 17.35 per cent, while in manufactured products, it was 3.59 per cent in November.

It is lower than than the 8.39 per cent reported in October and significantly down from 10.7 per cent in September. In November 2021, the wholesale price inflation had stood at 14.87 per cent. “Decline in the rate of inflation in November 2022, is primarily contributed by fall in prices of food articles, basic metals, textiles, chemicals & chemical products and paper & paper products as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year,” the Commerce and Industry Ministry said on Wednesday. The WPI inflation figures come after the latest data recently showed CPI inflation ease to an 11-month low of 5.88 per cent with food prices seeing sharp cooling. With 5.88
