Competition Among BJP Ticket Aspirants Natural for a Winning Party, Says Karnataka CM Bommai

Agency News: Belgaum

Amid reports that the BJP’s many ticket aspirants in various constituencies for the upcoming Assembly election are in stiff competition with each other, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said it was natural that this would happen in a party that is confident of winning, and that the party and its leadership is capable of managing the situation. He also hit out at the Congress’ poll guarantees, saying that the opposition party will not come to power to implement them, and that the schemes it promised are non-implementable.“There will be competition in a party that will win, so there is competition naturally,” Bommai said in response to a question.Speaking to reporters here, he said the

SVB fall shows it’s not just about credit risk, It’s also about the silent role of interest rate California’s Silicon Valley Bank was shut down by regulators in the United States last Friday, followed by New York-based Signature Bank on Sunday. Several Indian startups with accounts at SVB may also be impacted by this sudden closure. Bank runs or panic withdrawals and the resulting contagion effects have once again raised questions about banking regulation around the world. When SVB announced last Wednesday that it needed $2.25 billion to shore up its balance sheet, most of its depositors were caught by surprise. Panic ensued, and depositors withdrew funds worth $42 billion in a day, making a bad situation worse and leading to its shutdown. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) said depositors would have access to only the insured deposits by Monday morning. Many startups in India with deposits in SVB had difficulties accessing funds, especially those with deposits that are more than the insured amount. Losing access to their deposits would damage the ability of these firms to make downstream payments. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in India, is meeting with startups to assess the impact. Late Sunday evening, the Federal Reserve System announced it would help banks meet the needs of their depositors. The UK arm of SVB has already been sold to HSBC. What seemed like the bank failure of a relatively small institution has turned into an event with global ramifications. The SVB bank run is unusual for three reasons. First, it did not get into trouble because of a deteriorating loan portfolio. SVB clients were largely venture-capitalists who made deposits but did not need loans. SVB, therefore, invested these funds in US government bonds. When the Fed increased interest rates, the price of bonds fell, causing a liquidity crisis. The bank’s financial position was thus a result of poor management of its interest-rate risk and not its credit risk. Second, since the client base consisted mostly of venturecapitalists, their demand for funds to SVB.

The Delhi government has extended the ‘Old Excise policy’ for six months and has asked officials to prepare a new excise policy soon. Going by the old policy, there will be 5 dry days during these 6 months. After the whole controversy around the new excise policy, in connection with which former Delhi deputy CM and AAP leader Manish Sisodia is currently jailed, Delhi had reverted to the old excise regime, with the opening of government-run liquor vends in the city and exit of private players from retail business. The return of the old excise policy also meant that discounts offered by private players on liquor brands among others discontinued for Delhi. Sisodia was arrested last month after nearly eight hours of questioning on various aspects of the excise policy for 2021-

22, which the probe agency says suffered from irregularities both in its formulation and implementation, allegedly intended to benefit people with links to the AAP. He was later sent to judicial custody till March 20.The CBI had found that profit margins of liquor wholesalers were increased from five per cent to 12 per cent in the new excise policy on the insistence of the ‘South Lobby‘, a coterie of politicians and liquor businessmen who allegedly swung the policy in their favour. It is alleged that a group of ministers was of the view to cap profit margins to five per cent which was also the crux of the draft policy.

Before Fosbury, many high jumpers cleared their heights by running parallel to the bar, then using a straddle kick to leap over before landing with their faces pointed downward. At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, Fosbury took off at an angle, leaped backward, bent himself into a “J” shape to catapult his 6-foot-4

frame over the bar, then crashed headfirst into the landing pit.It was a convention-defying move, and with the world watching, Fosbury cleared 2.24m to win the gold and set an Olympic record. By the next Olympics, 28 of the 40 jumpers were using Fosbury’s technique. The Montreal Games in 1976 marked the last Olympics in which a high jumper won using a technique other than the Fosbury Flop.“The word legend is probably used too often,” sprint great Michael Johnson tweeted.“Dick Fosbury was a true LEGEND! He changed an entire event forever with a technique that looked crazy at the time but the result made it the standard.”Over time.

New York’s financial regulator said its decision to close Signature Bank had “nothing to do with crypto,” citing what it called “a significant crisis of confidence in the bank’s leadership” that occurred over the weekend after regulators shuttered Silicon Valley Bank. The comments from a New York State Department of Financial Services spokesperson were in contrast with those made by Signature Bank board member and former U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, one of the pioneers of the landmark Dodd-Frank Act, which was enacted after the 2008 financial crisis to better insulate the banking system from shocks.

”I think part of what happened was that regulators wanted to send a very strong anti-crypto message,” Frank told on Monday.“We became the poster boy because there was no insolvency based on the fundamentals.”But NYDFS denied Frank’s claims in a statement on Tuesday, saying that its decision to close Signature Bank on Sunday and appoint the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
