If the incident occurred in presence of the guard who was deployed here, action will cover not only him but all concerned officers in the area,” Meanwhile, Kashmir

Pandits in Jammu protested the killing and demanded justice for the victim. Some also demanded their “relocation” from Jammu and Kashmir amid a spate in civilian killings. Hundreds of protesting displaced Kashmiri Pandit employees blocked JammuAkhnoor road to protest the latest targeted killing of their community member by terrorists in the valley. We have already fled the valley otherwise we feel many of us have been done to death, one of the protesters,” adding that they have been saying that the situation in the valley is not safe for them but this government remained unmoved and paid no heed to their pleas for relocation.

Akasa Air Plane, On Way Interpol Cites Religion Angle ‘Brain is more dangerous, direct involveDenial of India’s Request ment is not necessary’, SC during hearing To Bengaluru, Returns To on Against Sikh Separatist Pannun in Prof G N Saibaba case Mumbai After Bird Strike Saibaba’s counsel submitted that he The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is looking into the incident, the official said. Agency News : Thane A Bengaluru-bound Akasa Air flight returned to the Mumbai airport due to a burning smell in the cabin, which later turned out to be due to a bird strike, a DGCA official said on Saturday. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is looking into the incident, the official said. The number of passengers on board the flight

could not be immediately known. “The aircraft VT-YAE, operating Akasa Air flight AKJ1103 from Mumbai for Bengaluru was involved in air turnback due to the burning smell felt in the cabin. The smell increased as the thrust was increased,” said the official. The airline’s response to the incident was awaited. The DGCA official said, however, no other abnormality including in engine parameters was observed. “After landing during the inspection, bird remains were found on engine number 1 of the aircraft,” he said and added that, “the burning smell was due to bird strike,” he stated. Akasa Air started its operations on August 7 this year.

Agency News : New Delhi The denial of India’s request to issue a red corner notice against founder of pro-Khalistan group Sikhs for Justice, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, was in accordance with the Interpol’s constitution to not intervene in matters of religious significance, the Secretary General of the world police organisation. The Central Bureau of Investigation, which is India’s liaison with the Interpol, had sent the request of the National Investigation Agency seeking

red corner notice against Pannun, but it was returned with further queries. Interpol Secretary General Jurgen Stock said he would not wish to comment on individual cases, but added: “It is strictly forbidden for the organisation to enter into any activity that might have predominantly political, military, religious or racial content or meaning. We have to strictly stay away from that and that sometimes leads to the fact that we decline requests from member countries for cooperation.” Article 3 of the Interpol Constitution states: “It is strictly forbidden for the Organization to undertake any intervention or activities of a political, military, religious or racial character.” Fringe organisation SFJ, run by a few radical Sikhs of foreign nationality in the US, Canada, the UK, etc.

was arrested in 2015, for over 7 years he has been under custody, except for the brief period where he was given bail on medical grounds. Agency News : New Delhi The Supreme Court on Saturday orally observed that as far as terrorist or Maoist activities are concerned, the brain is more dangerous and direct involvement is not necessary while suspending the October 14 order discharging former Delhi University professor G.N. Saibaba in a case of having Maoist links. A bench comprising justices M.R. Shah and Bela M. Trivedi said the Bombay High Court, unfortunately, passed the

order only on grounds of invalid and irregular sanction and did not consider the matter on merits. The bench noted that offences alleged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) are serious in nature and are against society and the unity of the country. Senior advocate R. Basant, representing Saibaba, said that he could at maximum be accused of being ideologically inclined and as a “brain” according to the prosecution, but there is nothing to show his involvement. The

bench said that as far as terrorist or Maoist activities are concerned, the brain is more dangerous and the direct involvement is not necessary. Basant said, “How brain is involved here...”. The bench replied that it is a general observation, not with respect to this specific case. Saibaba’s counsel submitted that he was arrested in 2015, for over 7 years he has been under custody, except for the brief period where he was given bail on medical grounds. The top court said it is finding fault with the high court for not entering the merits of the case and instead finding a shortcut to decide the matter. Basant said the court must see his client’s medical condition, as he suffers 90 per cent disability owing to post-polio paralysis.

SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Editorial

SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Zarifa Ghafari’s Memoir Is a Story of Resistance Against All Odds If only the Americans had paid heed to Zarifa… When Zarifa Ghafari was born in 1994, Afghanistan was torn by civil war; gunfire and mortar strikes echoed in the distance as she emerged. Raised during the Taliban’s first regime, she came of age post2001 – when the US propped up a supposedly democratic government after ousting the Taliban to “avenge 9/11”. Zarifa was a fearless fighter. This trait sent her to dizzying heights where Afghan women are not easily found. It also caused her numerous problems, eventually forcing her to flee her country after the Taliban victory last year. The daughter of a soldier who served equally well in all power centres in Kabul, Zarifa revealed her leadership qualities while in school. Taken to Kabul in 2005 to meet Hamid Karzai, the 11-year-old girl stood up and complained to the president about the lack of roads in her town and the absence of English and computer classes in her school. As everyone stared in disbelief, she asked why he made a hasty retreat in his helicopter a year earlier when he was to visit Patkia where she and other students waited to receive him. Karzai apologised for his conduct, invited her to the stage, gave her 500 Afghani from his pocket, and later sent her a certificate and a medal. Little Zarifa turned into an instant celebrity as the interaction was nationally televised. Unlike scores of Afghans, Zarifa was also incredibly lucky. She escaped with minor injuries in 2005 when a suicide bomber struck Kabul when she was on her way to school. The next year, she was close to the site of another suicide bombing in Kabul. This time, she fractured her skull in three places and shrapnel gouged chunks out of her skin. Mercifully she survived. The father forbade her from going to school. But she did so stealthily, only to be caught and thrashed by her father. When she finished school, she won a place at a university in Khost. But her father would not let her go. In any case, Khost bordered Pakistan and was a hotbed of Taliban insurgency. She got into teaching in Kabul, and soon won a scholarship to study at the Panjab University in Chandigarh. Her family backed her move, and a reluctant dad gave in. Zarifa is full of praise for Panjab University and fellow students, both Indians and non-Indians. She remained in traditional Afghan clothes initially and then slowly embraced jeans, T-shirts and blazers. “It was a revelation. I felt free to move, no longer consumed with worries about what might be showing or what I might trip over.”She signed up for another two years of a master’s course on full scholarship. Students in Chandigarh backed her when she organised protests against the horrific murder of a 27-year-old Afghan woman, Farkhunda Malikzada, on a Kabul street by a group of - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara corrupt self-styled Islamists in 2015. She was 22 when she left India.

She got dragged for about 500 meters with the vehicle and fell, following which the accused fled, the police said.

Kharge vs Tharoor in Cong Prez Devendra Fadnavis welcomes Polls: A Look at Their Priorities, SC’s decision against Saibaba’s Promises If Elected Party Chief acquittal in Maoist links case

Agency News : New Delhi With only two days left, the stage is set for a contest between veteran Mallikarjun Kharge and high-profile MP Shashi Tharoor for the Congress presidential election, the first in over two decades. While the polling will be held on October 17, the votes will be counted on October 19 and the results will be declared the same day. More than 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates will vote in the poll. Tharoor had said that he and Kharge are colleagues and no matter who wins it would be the victory of the party. Kharge had referred Tharoor as his younger brother and said there are no differences between them. Tharoor has released a poll manifesto outlining his priorities while Kharge said that his only agenda is to implement the party’s Udaipur declaration. As the two leaders gears for the contest, here’s

a look at promises and priorities of both leaders if elected Congress president. Congress presidential candidate Mallikarjun Kharge has that he did not have any separate poll manifesto and his only agenda is to implement the declaration adopted by the party at the Chintan Shivir held in Rajasthan earlier in the year. The Congress had held a three-day brainstorming session ‘Chitan Shivir’ in May in Rajasthan’s Udaipur to evolve the party’s strategy for its overhaul and revival in the wake of a series of electoral defeats. He promised to offer 50 per cent of party posts to those below 50 years of age if he wins the poll. Kharge said he believed in a collective approach and in taking along everyone, including youth and women and would work with all members to take the party to new heights. The octogenarian further said he would take efforts to resolve issues concerning farmers, workers, SC, ST, OBCs, minorities and small businessmen. He also said there should be a fight against PSUs disinvestment, rising unemployment, decline in rupee value, price rise and GST on essential items.

‘Looks Like Milk Competing With Petrol’: AAP’s Raghav Chadha Tears Into ‘Apathetic’ Central Govt After Price Hike

Agency News : New Delhi In the third such hike this year, Amul raised its milk variant prices by Rs 2 per litre across all markets except in poll-bound Gujarat on Saturday. Shortly after, AAP leader Raghav Chadha hit out at the Centre, calling it an “apathetic government”. Referencing his previous tweet where he had speculated that milk prices might go up again, he tweeted, “Told you so… Looks like milk is competing with petrol when it comes to price rise and breaking the common man’s back.” GCMMF, which sells milk under the Amul brand, has hiked the prices of Amul Gold and buffalo milk by Rs 2 per litre each across all markets except Gujarat. “Prices have been increased by Rs 2 per litre for Amul Gold and buffalo milk due to increase in

fat prices,” Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation The Cooperative had last increased the milk prices on August 17 by Rs 2 per litre citing a rise in milk procurement cost. GCMMF passes on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to the milk producers. Apart from Gujarat, GCMMF mainly sells milk in Delhi-NCR, West Bengal and Mumbai. Slamming the Centre, Chadha tweeted, “Today, Amul has hiked milk prices by Rs 2/- a litre. Average Indian families continue to pay for the mistakes of an apathetic government.” On October 6, he speculated that milk prices will further go up, owing to an unabated rise in fodder prices and the spread of lumpy skin disease amid cattle. “Despite the Lumpy virus spreading unchecked and fodder prices & shortage rising unabated for a while, the Govt has done nothing substantial to address these issues. Result: more troubles for farmers, more troubles for average Indian households,” he had tweeted.

The top court on Saturday rejected Saibaba’s request to order his release from jail due to his disability and health conditions and put him under house arrest. Agency News : Nagpur Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court to suspend the Bombay High Court’s order of acquitting former Delhi University professor G N Saibaba and others in a Maoist links case. The top court on Saturday rejected Saibaba’s request to order his release from jail due to his disability and health conditions and put him under house arrest after the Maharashtra government opposed the prayer, saying

that nowadays, there is a new tendency of “urban naxals” to seek house arrest. The high court had acquitted Saibaba and others in the case on Friday. Speaking to Nagpur airport, Fadnavis said, “I am satisfied with the apex court’s decision to suspend the high court order on professor G N Saibaba. Yesterday, I had said that the high court decision was surprising and shocking for us, because releasing a person on technical grounds, against whom there was ample evidence of directly helping Maoists, was wrong. Hence, we approached the SC yesterday itself.” The senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former chief minister said he was thankful to the top court for forming a bench on Friday and suspended the high court order.

Kerala: CPI(M) Says Family Members Accompanied CM, Ministers on Tour at Personal Expense State Minister for General Education V Sivankutty told reporters here, after returning from the trip, that family members of the CM and other ministers went on the trip at their own expense Agency News : Thiruvananthapuram The ruling CPI(M) in Kerala and the Left government have claimed that family members of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet colleagues accompanied them on the trip to Europe at their own expense and not of the state. State Minister for General Education V Sivankutty told reporters here, after returning from the trip, that family members of the CM and other ministers went on the trip at their own expense. He also said that there was nothing wrong with taking

one’s spouse or some other family member along on the trip as long as it was not at the state’s expense. His response came in the wake of mounting criticism from various quarters over Vijayan and other ministers taking their family on the Europe tour and the extension of the trip to Dubai, UAE before returning to India. The Congressled UDF had said that the CM and the other ministers need to tell the public as to what the state has gained out of their tour and how it would benefit the people. The CPI(M) state secretariat, opposing the criticism against the tour, has alleged in a statement that the UDF opposition was spreading fake news about the trip among the public through some media. It said the tour was essential to hold discussions with the foreign nations and explore opportunities to attract investments to Kerala for the overall development of the state. Therefore, fake stories in connection with the tour should be identified and dealt with, it said.

However, he said the exact cause of Mr Roy’s death

will be ascertained through a death audit, which is underway. Mr Roy was a native of West Bengal but was living with his family in Kaithun town here for several years. Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the government was not against English but awareness about the national language is necessary.

Agency News : Bhopal “Why can’t the names of medicines be written in Hindi, write Shri Hari on the top and the names of medicines below,” Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Saturday. Shivraj Singh Chouhan made the remarks while addressing Hindi Vyakhyan programme at Bharat Bhawan in the state capital Bhopal. Strongly pitching for prescribing medicines in English, he said

if the prescription is of crocin medicine, “then write it in Hindi what’s the problem”? “I do not have much to say because we have to do it. Hindi University was the result of that, it is a different matter whether it was less successful or more,” Mr Chouhan said. He said the government was not against English but awareness about the national language is necessary. “Today this mentality is wrong that work cannot be done without English. I have seen many medical college kids leaving medical college just because their English is not good,” he said. He cited examples of some countries where work is carried out in native languages and that have made great advances in science and technology. “Who speaks English in countries like Russia, Japan, Germany, and China? We have become slaves. When I went to the US, I gave a speech in Hindi and received more appreciation than people who were speaking in English,” he said “This is a social revolution. Nothing is impossible. When I announced that (MBBS course in Hindi) some people were laughing back then but now we have shown it by doing it,” he added.

Jail in Maoist-links Case, Rules Supreme Court Agency News : New Delhi

Former Delhi University professor GN Saibaba, serving a life term for Maoist links, will remain in jail, the the Supreme Court said on Saturday. The apex court suspended the Bombay High Court’s order discharging Saibaba and five others in the case. After a nearly two-hour long hearing on a non-working day, a Bench comprising Justices MR Shah and Bela M Trivedi also rejected Saibaba’s request for putting him under house arrest in view of his physical disability and health conditions. It stayed the release of all the accused in the case, including Saibaba, from jail, as directed by the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court. It sought responses from Saibaba and the other accused on a plea moved by the Maharashtra government against the high court order. More than eight years after his arrest, the Bombay High Court acquitted Saibaba on Friday and ordered his release from jail, noting that the sanction order issued to prosecute

the accused in the case under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) was “bad in law and invalid”. The Nagpur bench of the high court allowed Saibaba’s appeal, challenging a 2017 order of the trial court that convicted him in the case and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Apart from Saibaba, the court acquitted Mahesh Kariman Tirki, Pandu Pora Narote (both farmers), Hem Keshavdatta Mishra (student) and Prashant Sanglikar (journalist), who were sentenced to life imprisonment, and Vijay Tirki (labourer), who was sentenced to 10 years in jail. Narote died during the pendency of the appeal. Saibaba, 52, who is wheelchairbound due to a physical disability, is currently lodged in the Nagpur central prison.

Now leather, toy, containers and bicycle manufacturers have also

been added to the mix by the government as they will receive Rs 35,000 crore collectively as PLI. BOLLYWOOD-HOLLYWOOD Shalin Bhanot: If Anyone in Bigg Boss 16 Feels Anxious or Lonely, They’ll Find Friend in Me

Ananya Panday Reveals She Loves to Stalk Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt on Social Media

Shalin Bhanot is one of the contestants of the current season of Bigg Boss, who is already making some noise inside the house. From making new connections- with Sumbul or with Tinaa Dutta, to losing his cool, he is being termed as the mastermind inside the house. However, before his entry, in a conversation with Showsha, Shalin had said that he actually wants this season to be remembered as one that would have no fights, and would want to stand as a friend for anyone who feels low inside the house. When asked about his first reaction after actually saying yes to the show, Shalin joked that it was ‘gesture oriented’. He added, “Gesture oriented in the sense ki aap apna haath mathe pe maarte ho aur sochte ho ‘yaar pange le liye’. We generally spend our money and hop on a roller coaster ride, and then realise where we have come. Bigg Boss is something like that.” Shalin continued, “The feeling that you get is something you’ll never experience again. No roller coaster ride can give you the feel that you get before stepping into the house. You can feel all the emotions that probably any human soul can feel, all together at once.” Shalin has been a contestant in Roadies before and when we pointed out that he must have felt these jitters even before that reality show years back, the actor emphasized, “No, I’m telling you, that was nothing. This is something else. There at least we were provided with food. Here, all the chores will have to be done amongst ourselves.” The actor also hoped to meet good people inside the house. He said, “I wish we get all great people, have some fun together and take care of each other. I hope that after this season, people will recall that there had been one Bigg Boss where no fights happened, only love prevailed.” Talking about a quality that he hopes would take him forward, he was quick to say ‘my love for humanity and my smile’. He also added, “I promise that if anybody, inside the house feels sad, feels lonely, anxious, they will have a friend. They can come to me and open their heart out. I am a good friend.” Shalin also revealed that he has never watched any of the seasons of Bigg Boss.

The set of Case Toh Banta Hai echoed, ‘Imma Joking’ in sync today, all thanks to Chunky Panday and Ananya Panday. Yes! The duo tackled the Atrangi Ilzaams with equal grace and sass, but lawyers Riteish Deshmukh and Varun Sharma left no stone unturned to make a comedic case against them. In an attempt to pull Ananya Panday’s leg, Varun Sharma questioned her about the rumours of her stalking Varun Dhawan, and without missing a beat, Ananya quipped, “yeh baat true hai ki meri stalking ki bucket list hai aur blocking ki bhi bucket list hai, aur usme Varun Sharma ka naam sabse pehle hai.” While Ananya’s reply left Varun speechless, Riteish and Kusha couldn’t hold themselves from being amazed at the young star. Further, when comedian Paritosh Tripathi asked Ananya about her interesting social media bio which says ‘Private Investigator’, the actress admitted that she’s an unapologetic stalker. “Mujhe stalk karna pasand hai aur mere khilaaf koi F.I.R nahi karta hai. Main sabko stalk karti hoon. Mujhe Alia Bhatt ka bio pata hai - ‘Moody, Floaty, Fire and Desire’, aur Kareena ka ek emoji hai.” With such a fun-filled episode, it looks like Ananya has got her funny bones from Papa Panday. Case Toh Banta Hai is a one-of-a-kind weekly comedy show where Riteish Deshmukh and Varun Sharma play the roles of a public prosecutor and defense lawyer respectively. It also features Kusha Kapila as the judge who decides the fate of the biggest Bollywood celebrities.

Actor Mel Gibson can be called to testify against Harvey Weinstein at the producer’s upcoming Los Angeles rape trial, a judge ruled on Friday. Prosecutors want to call the actor to support the allegations of Jane Doe 3, who claims that Weinstein sexually assaulted her after she gave him a massage at his hotel in 2010, According to Deputy District Attorney Marlene Martinez, the woman later told Gibson about the incident during a massage, and Gibson’s testimony would help buttress her allegation.

Prosecutors want to call the actor to support the allegations of a victim, who claims that Weinstein sexually assaulted her in 2010

Judge Lisa B. Lench allowed prosecutors to call Gibson to the stand. She also denied a defense request that they be allowed to ask Gibson about racist and anti-semitic statements he has made over the years. But the defense will be allowed to ask whether Gibson holds a grudge against Weinstein. The defense argued that Gibson has ill will toward Weinstein dating from

the release of ‘The Passion of the Christ’, which was widely seen to play on anti-semitic themes. Weinstein later published a book, ‘Perspectives on the Passion of the Christ’, that challenged the film. “This created a feud between Mr Gibson and Mr Weinstein,” argued Mark Werksman, Weinstein’s attorney. When Werksman inaccurately claimed that the film won an Oscar for best picture, Weinstein

gestured no with his arms and with a look of disdain. Werksman also argued that Gibson is “now trying to rehabilitate his image by becoming a champion of the #MeToo movement. According to the attorneys, Gibson told investigators that Jane Doe 3 had a ‘PTSD reaction’ when he brought up the name ‘Harvey’ during a massage. Gibson was talking about Weinstein in the context of a business deal.

Hasin Jahan, estranged wife of cricketer Mohammed Shami complains of misconduct by railway ticket-checker

Agency News : Kolkata Hasin Jahan, the estranged wife of Indian cricketer and pacer, Mohammed Shami, who was in the headlines for her tiff with her husband in 2018, is once again in the limelight. On Friday, she alleged misconduct by Railways ticket checking staff on Thursday night while she was travelling to Kolkata from Bihar. Jahan has also claimed that after she complained to the police in the matter, she returned to Kolkata being escorted by the security personnel. The Eastern Railways chief public relations officer, Ekalabya Chakraborty, however, said that no official complaint has been registered in the matter so far with the railways. However, he assured of looking into the matter and taking appropriate action accordingly. According to Jahan, she was returning to Kolkata from Bihar

after attending a marriage function of one of her relatives. She was allotted an upper berth in Kolkata Jogbani Express. “However, a lower berth was vacant there and following the request of a fellow passenger I shifted to the lower berth. However, on late Thursday night a ticket checking staff arrived there and started misbehaving with me and used abusive language. The staff member also threw down my mobile. Later I took help from the police and returned to the city under security escorts,” she said. Last month, after the victory of the Indian team against Pakistan at Asia Cup, Hasin Jahan shared in social media a photo of Hardik Pandya, who led India to victory with a six and there she took a veiled attack against Shami, who was not in the Indian squad. “Congratulations. A memorable victory. Thanks to our Tigers for helping the country win. This had to happen; the country’s reputation and honour are protected by honest patriots rather than criminals and womanizers,” her post then had read.
