The US has ordered Tata-group owned Air India to pay a whopping $121.5 million as refunds and $1.4 million as penalties for extreme delays in providing refunds to passengers due to the cancellation or change in flights, mostly during the pandemic, officials said.Air India is among the six airlines that have agreed to cough up a total of over $600 million as refunds, the US Department of Transportation said on Monday. Air India’s policy of “refund on request” is contrary to the Department of Transportation policy, which mandates air carriers to legally refund tickets in the case of cancellation or change in flight, officials said. The cases in which Air India was asked to pay the refund and agreed to pay the penalty were before the national carrier was acquired by the Tatas.

The forensic team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday went to Delhi’s Mehrauli police station to examine 10 suspected human parts that were collected from the Mehrauli forest area, in connection with the case of murder of a 26-year-old woman by her live-in partner who chopped her body into multiple parts after killing her. Sources said if remains are confirmed to be of a human, they would be matched with the DNA of the father of the victim -Shraddha Walker. For the second time on Tuesday morning, the police team took the accused Aftab Ameen Poonawala to the Mehrauli forest area to recover the remains of the body of Shraddha Walker which the accused chopped into 35 pieces. He was first taken to the area on Monday. After his arrest

on Saturday, the police teams have recovered 10 suspected human body parts since then after multiple searches. The police said that after chopping the body on May 18, the accused bought a new refrigerator with a large storage capacity the next day and stored the remains in it. To conceal the stench, he lit incense sticks at his home. Aftab was reportedly inspired by the American crime show ‘Dexter’, which tells the story of a man with homicidal tendencies who lives a double life.

was voted to power in 2014. The ruling BJP again swept back to power in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. “Today, India is the fastest-growing large economy in the world,” Modi said, adding that India is number 1 today in digital transactions, global fintech, IT outsourcing, smartphone data consumption, and vaccine manufacturing. “And this has become possible because today’s India doesn’t think small. Today India is going ahead at unprecedented scale and speed. We don’t dream small anymore. Since 2014, we have opened more than 320 million bank accounts. More than the population of the USA,” he said. He further said that Indonesia was fortunate to attain independence two years before India and there is a lot that India can learn from Indonesia. However, at the same time, PM Modi said, in its 75-yearold long development journey, there is a lot that India can also give to Indonesia. India is currently part of the G20 Troika (current, previous, and incoming G20 Presidencies) comprising Indonesia, Italy, and India. Earlier in the day,

SC waives solvency certificate requirement for activist Gautam Navlakha to avail benefit of house arrest Agency News: New Delhi The Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the hurdle for the release of activist Gautam Navlakha from Navi Mumbai’s Taloja prison, where he is lodged in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist link case, by waiving the requirement of a solvency certificate for availing the benefit of house arrest. The top court had on November 10 allowed Navlakha to be placed under house arrest owing to his deteriorating health. It had said that to avail the facility of house arrest, Navlakha will provide local surety of Rs 2 lakh by November 14. A bench of Justices K M Joseph and Hrishikesh Roy was on Tuesday informed by senior advocate Nitya Ramakrishnan and advocate Shadan Farasat, appearing for Navlakha, it will take a minimum of six weeks to secure solvency certificate in respect of surety to be provided as a precondition for house arrest of the activist.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi entered its 69th day on Tuesday and will reach Washim district in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra later in the day. Gandhi started the foot march from Phalegaon in Hingoli district on Tuesday morning. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, former Maharashtra minister Yashomati Thakur and other party leaders walked along with Gandhi. Ramesh remembered iconic tribal leader Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary on Tuesday. “Today is the 69th day of #BharatJodoYatra and the 147th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, born just 15 days later than Sardar Patel. But tragically, he died in a British jail in Ranchi at the very young age of 25.” “An adivasi, Birsa Munda should be an inspiration to ALL Indians. The causes for which he laid down his life, particularly tribal land rights are still most relevant today,” Ramesh added. Jailed Meghalaya BJP Leader Bernard Marak Granted Bail in Three-year-old Girl’s Rape Case Agency News : Shillong BJP leader Bernard N Marak was granted bail by the Meghalaya High Court in a case pertaining to the alleged rape of a three-yearold girl at his farmhouse in West Garo Hills district. Marak, an elected member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council and also the state BJP vice-president, was earlier granted bail in connection with the running of a brothel in the farmhouse and the seizure of arms and ammunition from the premises. Passing the bail order on Monday in the final case pending against him related to the farmhouse, a single bench of Justice W Diengdoh observed that there was no direct evidence linking Marak to the alleged sexual assault of the child, and noted that the politician was confined on “very filmsy grounds”. The BJP leader was directed not to leave the country or try to tamper with the evidence, and asked to appear before the investigating officer as and when required, besides paying a personal bond of Rs 30,000 with two solvent sureties of like amount. Disposing of

the bail petition filed by the BJP leader’s brother Tingku N Marak, the court stated that the accused was not apprehended along with the girl during a raid on his farmhouse, and to say that he is likely to be the offender only due to the fact that he is the owner of the property is “too far fetched”. “On consideration of the facts and circumstances involving the case of the accused brother of the petitioner, keeping in mind the value of liberty of a person who is confined in custody on very flimsy grounds, this court is of the opinion that the instant petition has some merits,” it stated. On July 26, Bernard N Marak was arrested from Hapur district in Uttar Pradesh after he allegedly absconded following the busting of a “sex racket” at his farmhouse that led to the rescue of 25 minors and arrest of 73 people.

“Do I Fall At Your Feet And Beg?”: Mamata Banerjee’s Instead of Authoring ‘Fraudulent’ Pieces on Nehru, Focus on RectiJibe At PM Over GST fying Legal System: Congress

Agency News : Kolkata West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today hit out at the central government, claiming that Bengal’s dues on account of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and funds under various central schemes were being held back by the BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Attending a tribal outreach programme in Jhargram, the Bengal CM said: “The 100day job guarantee scheme funds are mandatory. In spite of that, a year ago, I went and met the PM regarding this. Should I fall at your feet and beg?” Taking a swipe at the BJP, Ms Banerjee said: “Are we living in a democracy? Or has India become a ‘one-party’ country?” “Give us our dues. This is our money. Otherwise, scrap GST. You have to pay us our dues for 100-day job scheme or else leave your chair,” she said, while paying rich tributes to Birsa Munda, a freedom fighter from the tribal community. The Prime Minister also paid tributes

to Birsa Munda this morning on the occasion of Jan Jatiya Gaurav Divas 2022. “They threaten to stop funds to Bengal. We can also stop GST,” the Chief Minister said. “You cannot collect taxes here and withhold our legitimate dues. You are denying the people of Bengal what is their due,” Ms Banerjee added in a sharp attack on the BJPled government. Yesterday, Ms Banerjee attacked BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari who had said that the centre would stop funds to Bengal under various schemes in view of corruption. Hitting out at Adhikari, the Chief Minister said: “One day, such politicians will become zero, if they continue dissing Bengal. We are ranked among the top states when it comes to implementing these schemes, be it 100 days’ .

The Congress on Tuesday slammed Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for his fresh attack on Jawaharlal Nehru, saying that instead of wasting time authoring “fraudulent” pieces on the country’s first prime minister, he should focus on rectifying a legal system that frees those convicted of murder and gang rape. Rijiju mounted a fresh attack on Nehru on the Kashmir issue on Monday, claiming that he moved the United Nations under the wrong Article after Pakistan’s invasion, thereby making it a party to the dispute instead of an aggressor. “Instead of wasting his time ‘authoring’

fraudulent pieces on Nehru to please MoDistorter, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju should focus on rectifying a legal system that frees those convicted of murder and gang rape,” Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said making an apparent reference to the release of convicts in the Bilkis Bano gang rape case. “He should be more anguished by these than defaming Nehru!” Ramesh said on Twitter. Rijiju also said Nehru let the “myth” of a UNmandated plebiscite perpetuate and created the “divisive” Article 370 of the Constitution. “Nehru rejected Maharaja Hari Singh’s plea to accede to India not just once but thrice,” he said.

The Election Commission will hear the two factions led by Chirag Paswan and Pashupati Kumar Paras over the Lok Janshakti Party symbol dispute on November 29. As the 8 billionth child is born, who were 5th, 6th and 7th?

After a big surge in the middle of the 20th Century, population growth is already slowing down. It could take 15 years to reach nine billion and the UN doesn’t expect to reach 10 billion until 2080. It’s hard to calculate the number of people in the world accurately, and the UN admits its sums could be out by a year or two. But 15 November is its best estimate for the eight billion line to be crossed. In previous years, the UN has selected babies to represent the five, six and seven-billionth children - so what can their stories tell us about world population growth? A few minutes after he was born in July 1987, Matej Gaspar had a flashing camera in his tiny face and a gaggle of besuited politicians surrounding his exhausted mother. Stuck at the back of a motorcade outside, British UN official Alex Marshall felt partially responsible for the momentary chaos he had brought upon this tiny maternity unit in the suburbs of Zagreb. “We basically looked at the projections and dreamed up this idea that the world population would pass five billion in 1987,” he says. “And the statistical date was 11 July.” They decided to christen the world’s five-billionth baby. When he went to the UN’s demographers to clear the idea they were outraged. “They explained to us ignorant people that we didn’t know what we were doing. And we really shouldn’t be picking out one individual among so many.” But they did it anyway. “It was about putting a face to the numbers,” he says. “We found out where the secretary general was going to be that day and it went from there.” Thirty-five years later the world’s five-billionth baby is trying to forget his ceremonious entry into the world. His Facebook page suggests he’s living in Zagreb, happily married and working as a chemical engineer. But he avoids interviews and declined to speak. “Well, I don’t blame him,” Alex says, remembering the media circus of Matej’s first day. Since then, three billion more people have been added to our global community. But the next 35 years could see a rise of only two billion and then the global population is likely to plateau. Just outside Dhaka in Bangladesh, Sadia Sultana Oishee is helping her mum, peeling potatoes for dinner. She’s 11 and would rather be outside playing football but her parents run a pretty tight ship. The family had to move here when their business, selling fabric and saris, was hit by the pandemic. Life is less expensive in the village, so they can - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara still afford to pay school fees for their three daughters.

Congress Fighting Political Challenges, Bharat Jodo Yatra Has Brought Unity in Party: Jairam Ramesh Agency News : Washim The Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra has brought unity in the Congress in the last 70 days as the party has been fighting political challenges, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said on Tuesday. The foot march, a mass contact initiative of the Congress, entered its 69th day on Tuesday and reached Washim district in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra from Hingoli. in Washim, Ramesh said Gandhi will also address a public meeting of tribals on the occasion of the birth anniversary of iconic tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda. Targeting the Centre, Ramesh claimed the Forest Rights Act and the Land Acquisition Act 2013 have been weakened and this is specially harmful for tribals. The legislations were brought during the rule of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). Ramesh alleged that the Narendra Modi government’s policy was to forcefully take the land of farmers and give it to the big companies. The Bharat Jodo Yatra has nothing to do with the vote bank. It’s purpose is above politics, the Congress leader said. “It is the yatra of a political party and we are fighting political challenges,” he said. “One thing is

Commenting on the performance of the Company during the quarter, Dr Sanjay Chaturvedi, Executive Director & CEO said, “The global economy is going through a rollercoaster ride as central banks battle inflation through rate hikes. Apart from inflation, the global trade is also impacted by uncertain business environment following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and frequent lockdowns in China, thereby leading to supply chain disruptions. For the Indian API manufacturers and specialty chemicals players, the major challenge comes from volatile input costs with raw material and energy prices both impacting the profitability.
