xSwine flu claims 5 more lives in Guj; toll reaches 392 Sunvilla News, Ahmedabad Mar 16

Naidu dismisses Cong charge of 'snooping' on Rahul Agency : New Delhi, Mar 16

Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today dismissed the Congress charge of "political espionage" and said enquiries made about Rahul Gandhi was a routine affair. "This is an exercise (which has been) going on since 1947 and the proforma procedure was formalised in 1957 by Delhi Police," the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister said here.

Congress, Centre clash over Rahul snooping Agency : New Delhi The alleged snooping on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi blew into a political confrontation on Monday, as the Congress charged the BJP with a "police state mentality" while the government dismissed

the episode as a "non-issue". A combative government took on a united Opposition against making a "mountain out of what is not even a molehill". The government said information collection was part of a transparent security profiling used on

526 VIPs, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former prime ministers. "This is not something new. Delhi Police has been collecting such information since 1987 when the Congress was in power," said union finance

minister Arun Jaitley in both the Houses . He offered to share 526 forms filled during previous UPA regimes with Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge. He

Aadhaar not mandatory, SC reiterates Agency : New Delhi Clearing all doubts about the validity of Aadhaar card to avail of government subsidies, the Supreme Court on Monday confirmed that the Aadhar card is not compulsory, and further, officials who insist on them will be taken to task. A fuming Supreme Court issued a stern warning to the government on learning that many government authorities still insist on Aadhaar for providing government subsidies and basic services to ordinary citizens. A Bench of Justices J. Chelameswar, S.A. Bobde and C. Nagappan clarified that demands made by officials for Aadhaar card is in clear violation of

the Supreme Court's interim order of September 23, 2013. In the 2013 order, the apex court had directed that “no person should suffer for not getting the Aadhaar card, inspite of the fact that some authority had issued a circular making it mandatory”. The court's summary dismissal of Aadhaar card's validity comes at a time when over 750 million Aadhar numbers have already been generated. “Aadhaar is being insisted upon by various authorities. We do not want to go into specific instances. We expect the Union of India and all the States to adhere to the order dated September 23, 2013. We will take the officers

concerned to task if any order comes on record making it (Aadhaar) mandatory,” Justice Chelameswar observed. The court was hearing a batch of petitions challenging the Aadhaar scheme as an encroachment into the public's right to privacy. “It is a matter of great public importance. The issue has

serious implication in terms of Constitution. Notwithstanding the court's order, there is insistence for Aadhaar. There is complete apathy on the part of officials,” senior advocate Gopal Subramanium, representing one of the petitioners and Bangaloreresident, Mathew Thomas, submitted.

said he too had filled such a form. Sonia Gandhi had filled the form on five occasions, he said. Dismissing suggestions that this was snooping, Jaitley said, "Spying is not done through filling up a proforma, it would be done sneakily." On the proforma seeking information on shoe-size, colour of eyes etc, Jaitley said, "Let us not forget that the body of a former PM of this country , who was assassinated, was identified by his shoes." He said it was not unusual for the police to know who would be your regular visitors. The proforma, which was revised in 1999, has been used to profile former prime

ministers HD Dewa Gowda, IK Gujral, Manmohan Singh and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The same was also used to profile Sonia Gandhi in October 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, Jaitley said. Pranab Mukherjee, before becoming the president, was profiled in 2001, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012, while senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Ahmed Patel of Congress, CPIM's Sitaram Yechury and Sharad Yadav of JD-U were also profiled, he said. In the Rajya Sabha , when some MPs tried to link Rahul snooping to the PM — they alleged Modi was

keeping an eye what his ministers were doing — like how he asked a minister not to wear jeans or tick off a minister for visiting someone they were dining — Jatiley said, "Please do not treat gossip as facts and do not raise it in the House." "If you are going to treat this as a political issue then we can also tackle it politically.

Swine flu toll climbs to 1,731; number of cases close to 30,000-mark

Sharad Yadav continues sexist rant, tells Smriti Irani: 'I know what you are'

Agency : NEW DELHI Under attack for his recent sexist remarks on skin color of south Indian women, JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav on Monday remained unapologetic and made a sexist ad hominem directly aimed at HRD minister Smriti Irani in Parliament. Yadav raked up the issue in Parliament on Monday again, saying he was ready for a debate on the issue. "What have I said ... 'saanvli' (dark complexioned) women are more in number in India, they are more in number the world over. I am ready to debate with anyone on the struggle of (Ram Manohar) Lohia and others for them," he said in the Rajya Sabha. As Yadav explained his position on the issue, he was interrupted by both treasury

and opposition members including HRD minister Smriti Irani. "I appeal to the gentleman (Yadav) not to make comments on colour of skin of women in this manner. Very wrong message is going," she said This infuriated Yadav, who, in turn, hit out at Irani, saying, "I know what you are." His comments stunned other leaders and Irani herself. Earlier Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad raised the issue in the House and asked the JD(U) leader to withdraw his comments. Prasad said: "Comments were made on south Indian women, I was also mentioned, I remained quiet. I want to keep myself away from that comment." "I completely disagree with the comment. Ask the member to withdraw the

comment," he urged the chair. Trying to clarify, Yadav said his comments were misinterpreted: "There are more dusky women in India and in the world... I can discuss the issue with anyone, we are in favour of Indian culture." Deputy chairman PJ Kurien said he would not allow a discussion on the issue. "White complexion or dark complexion, it is all the same, I am not allowing

a discussion on this," Kurien said. Leader of opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad opined that the issue should not be discussed as it will get more complicated. Yadav, however, said he was ready to participate in a discussion. "There has been a long struggle against discrimination based on colour... I am ready to participate in a debate any time," said Yadav.

Agency : New Delhi The swine flu toll in the country climbed to 1,731 on Monday with 21 more deaths being reported even as the number of persons affected by the disease inched close to the 30,000mark, surpassing the earlier levels reached during 2009. As per the health ministry's figures, in 2009, 27,236 persons were affected due to the disease while 981 deaths were registered. In 2010, the disease affected more than 20,000 people while 1,763 deaths were reported. The death toll was

the highest in Gujarat where 387 people have died to the disease while the number of affected people has reached 6,148. Swine flu has killed 378 persons in Rajasthan. The death toll in Maharashtra inched towards the 300-mark as 293 have died due to the contagious disease while 3,483 people are affected by the disease. In Madhya Pradesh, 239 people have perished and 1,909 are affected. In Delhi, 11 deaths have been reported while the number of swine flu cases inched towards the 4,000-

The death toll in West Bengal has reached 19 while the state of Uttar Pradesh has witnessed 35 deaths.

Rahul Gandhi and Snoopgate 2 Need an Explanation On March 2, 2015, Assistant Sub-Inspector Shamsher Singh of the Special Branch of Delhi Police Headquarters was found sniffing around the Tughlak Lane residence of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi, asking inane and suspicious questions. Confronted by the Special Protection Group (SPG), which protects the premises and the staff of Rahul Gandhi, to whom he was taken by the SPG, he produced a questionnaire he was carrying. This required him to obtain various particulars about Rahul Gandhi like the colour of his hair and eyes, birth marks, any disabilities or preferences, the type of clothes he wears, his shoes, photographs, and the names, addresses and phone numbers of his associates. On the 12th, a beat constable came by the house, and on the 14th, two police officers, an Additional DCP and an ACP, again visited the residence of Rahul Gandhi at 12, Tughlak Lane, New Delhi. They spent about seven minutes at the residence enquiring about the whereabouts of various Gandhi aides. The Congress Party erupted in indignation at these developments, alleging that this was a misuse of the Delhi Police personnel by the government to obtain personal information about a prominent political opponent. Given that not long ago, the "Snoopgate" scandal involved a brazen misuse of Gujarat state machinery for the surveillance of the movements of a private citizen, a young woman, the Congress' fear was that the same process might be at work at the Centre. The party dubbed the affair "Snoopgate2" and demanded an explanation from the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. After all, Rahul Gandhi is protected by the SPG, and has been since his childhood; why would the Delhi Police need such information about an SPG protectee, and if for some innocent reason it did, why not just ask the SPG? And why did the Police need the telephone numbers and addresses of Shri Gandhi's associates and friends? Faced with this controversy, the Delhi Commissioner of Police, Bhim Sain Bassi, held a press conference to state that this was a routine enquiry; a beat constable had gone not only to the residence of Rahul Gandhi but also to the residences of Veerappa Moily, PC Chacko and other political leaders. The Police Commissioner argued that the information being sought was to prevent spontaneous demonstrations at the Congress leader's residence, to ensure his security and the maintenance of law and order. The Commissioner of Police explained that various vulnerable persons are not easily identified by police officers, and it is for this reason that photographs and other descriptive details were being sought. He averred that there was no pressure from the Prime Minister or the Union government to spy upon Rahul Gandhi. This seemed reasonable enough on the face of it, except for a few inconvenient details. The beat constable's routine security visit to the homes of various political leaders was on March 12, the Shamsher Singh episode was on March 2. The Congress stressed it objects to the latter, not the former.

QUOTE “I know political elements are in this crowd. They are ones who are this. I challenge the BJP and the CPM. How long will they OF THE doing block me? I am a person who has risen through agitations” DAY - West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol Forever. Shruti Haasan Records Gabbar Is After All These Years, Still Dilwale Back Song in One Hour Non-Stop

Agency : New Delhi They created magic as they brought the screens alive with their mere presence, their chemistry palpable. There was no foolproof formula, but when they clicked, there were some truly explosive cinematic results. Bollywood's golden couple will be back together in Rohit Shetty's Dilwale. Yes, we are talking about Badshah Khan and his one co-star we cannot get enough off, the fiery Kajol. The king and queen of hearts, if any one actress has perfectly complemented Bollywood's Badshah Khan on-screen, it has been the intensely charismatic Kajol.

The two could set a million hearts racing with their killer chemistry and were the perfect pair for Bollywood's romantic plots. The couple, with a 100 percent hit record at the box office, were first seen together in Baazigar. It was his first film as the anti-hero, a risk that could have spelled doom for any newcomer. But the Delhi boy, with no filmy surname or godfather, was willing to take on the challenge. She belonged to a family of filmy matriarchs, but her debut Bekhudi in 1992 hadn't created any noise. So, when the two came together for AbbasMustan's Baazigar in 1994,

little did one realise that Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol would soon be entering BTown's hall of fame as the Jodi No 1. As he mouthed, "Haar haar ke jeetne waale ko Baazigar kehte hain" and a grief stricken Kajol shot down the man who betrayed her and destroyed her family, one couldn't help but feel bad for the reel couple. The two, gawky to say the least, were once again paired in Rakesh Roshan's Karan Arjun. But it was as Raj and Simran in Yash Chopra's Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge that SRK and Kajol became household names and the romantic new age couple.

Desi Tadka: Sunny Leone mesmerizes in dance number Saiyaan Superstar

- Kapilkumar M. Hirpara Editor

Makers of ‘Hunterrr’ asked to reword ‘objectionable content’

Agency : Mumbai It was almost impossible to believe, after watching Jism 2, that the Indio Canadian porn star Sunny Leone who survived that entire film by just sighing and panting, would get another offer ever in Bollywood. But she not just managed to grab

several lucrative films, but has also become the triumph card for directors. From a mere sex Goddess to an appealing dancer, Sunny's transformation has been commendable. She also shows promise as an actor in the trailers of Ek Paheli Leela. Her dance

number Saiyaan Superstar that was released recently is an interesting watch. Shot in the backdrop of regal finery, it is a song Sunny dances on at her wedding day with Mohit Ahlawat, the flamboyant crown prince of Jaisalmer in the film.

‘Tu Jo Hain’ is my romantic best: Emraan Hashmi Agency : Mumbai Sex comedy Hunterrr has been asked to clean up its language before the release this week. Says a source from Central Board of Film Certification, “The trailer was passed by the previous CBFC team and contained a lot of objectionable content. We’re aware that Hunterrr’s a sex comedy and went ahead with as many risqué dialogues as we could.” The CBFC suggested that instead of beeping the objectionable dialogues, the team could

re-record them with cleaner content to avoid jerks in the soundtrack. Luckily for the production house Phantom (basking in the NH10 glory) re-recording wasn’t that much of a hassle. Says a source, “We did change the dialogues and it wasn’t that difficult because the actors (Gulshan Devaiah, Radhika Apte and Sai Tamhankar) were relatively free and very supportive. Had it been Alisters, it would have been impossible to rework the dialogues. We now have an ‘A’ certificate.”

Agency : New Delhi The first song video from Vikram Bhatt’s much awaited romantic thriller “Tu Jo Hain” featuring the suave Emraan Hashmi and the gorgeous Amyra Dastur releases today. The beautifully crooned and composed song by Ankit Tiwari with lyrics by Mohnish Raza showcases the passion and chemistry between the couple which is a must watch. Emraan also believes that this song is his romantic best! (Read: A dream come true: Emraan Hashmi on

playing Mr X superhero) “After a long time my fans will get the best of me in Tu Jo Hain. Amyra is a very talented actor and together we have created magic in the song. Ankit has sung it beautifully and it’s on loop on my playlist.

I hope my fans enjoy it as much too,” says Emraan Hashmi. Emraan and Amyra’s amazing chemistry in the song combined with Ankit’s soul-stirring voice makes you want to listen and watch the song.

Agency : Chennai After lending her voice to two successful songs Joganiyan and Sannata - this year, Shruti Haasan has sung a song picturised on herself for her film Gabbar Is Back. What's more incredible is that she recorded the song in one hour without any break. "Shruti was shooting in the village of Pollachi for one of her Tamil films. In between her film schedules and her numerous brand shoots, she had just half a day to complete this recording. After a two-hour car ride to Coimbatore and then a flight to Mumbai, Shruti landed and went straight into the recording studio," a source told IANS. "She had prepped the song in advance and had worked on the voicing so that she could maximise her output at the studio. And that's exactly what happened. The music director got what he wanted from her for the entire song within an hour, post which

she took a flight back to resume her shoot in Pollachi," he said. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, Gabbar Is Back, which features Akshay Kumar in the lead role, is the remake

of the Tamil film Ramanna. The film also features Prakash Raj and Sonu Sood in important roles, while Kareena Kapoor and Chitrangada Singh make a cameo appearance.

Sonakshi starts shooting for Murgadoss's next

Agency : New Delhi After working with AR Murgadoss in `Holiday..`, Sonakshi Sinha is ready to

be starred in his next untitled Hindi film, has teamed up with the successful director for an untitled Hindi film.

The action thriller also stars daddy Shatrughan Sinha in an important role. Sona who has a number of hit movies to her credit took to Twitter to announce her first day shoot from the film sets. The fiery actress sure looks quite enthusiastic about the action thriller. The `Dabangg`actress is quite ready to pump up some action on-screen. The film, which will be produced by Fox Star Studios, is the official remake of Tamil hit ‘Mounaguru’. Interestingly, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap will be playing a badie in the film.

NH10: Why Anushka Sharma's film is more for men than women Agency : New Delhi She strikes a matchstick, lights a cigarette, and watches patiently as her prey tries to drag himself out of the web of death. All the while, a calm indifference makes the bruises on her face stand out even more, while the viewer wonders exactly which precise moment the iron rod will come down on the predator-turned-prey. In the chiaroscuro of the by-lanes of some unknown village off the NH-10, in Haryana, the yellow-hoodie clad Meera is a spectacle to behold. The numbed-by-pain, pushed-to-indifference woman smokes her fag and walks towards the last of her could-be killers, and

strikes. Once, twice, thrice...till one loses count of the times the rod is wielded, and is compelled to take the violence in their stride. 'Jo karna tha, so karna tha,' runs the refrain in the viewer's mind, as one exits the theatre; on loop, for a while to come. More often than not, the litmus test of a good film is its recall value, as far as the utterly fickle minds of the audience

are concerned. In the Friday-to-Friday governed mind of the cine-goer, therefore, making an unignorable impact is a task that many filmmakers end up not being able to accomplish. Neither do most actors, for that matter. The film lashes out at patriarchy, screams a loud 'F*ck you' at regressiveness, and batters to death gender bias.

3 / Dt. 17-03-2015, Tuesday WPI falls to -2.06% on lower fuel prices but watch out for rise in food inflation

Agency : New Delhi The steeper-than-expected fall in wholesale price index (WPI) inflation for February, the fourth consecutive monthly decline, is largely on account of a fall in fuel prices and decline in manufactured products inflation in the face of weak consumer demand. According to the government data, the WPI inflation fell to -2.06 percent in February from -0.39 percent a month ago. The point not to be missed is that there isn’t any encouraging trend when it comes to food price inflation, which still stay high with a 7.74 percent growth, largely same as the previous month. The trend in food inflation, a major contributor to the persistently high retail

inflation, will have significant say in charting the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) policy stance in the approaching months. Even the consumer price index (CPI) inflation, which is the key price indicator for the central bank, has been inching up in the recent months with a primary contributor to the rise being the food prices. In February, the CPI rose to 5.37 percent from 5.19 percent in January, mainly due to higher food prices. Food and beverages constitute about 46 percent of the retail inflation basket. Direction of food prices is critical since it tends to go up in summer, and the scene doesn’t look good with the unseasonal rains in February and March that might impact the crop output this year.

Auto industry worried as interest in India-EU FTA revives

Agency : New Delhi With interest in India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) being revived, the auto industry is concerned that any concessions in the sector on demands by the bloc would have far reaching consequences for it and have an impact on the Modi government's Make in India initiative. The demand of the EU to reduce import duties on fully imported vehicles will not only impact employment in the sector but will also be unfair to automobile makers from Japan, Korea and the US which have made huge investments in India, industry

insiders said. When contacted, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Deputy Director General Sugato Sen said: "We have been consistently talking about keeping 20 tariff lines out of all FTAs and the government of India has so far supported this position. SIAM hopes that the position will be maintained in the case of India-EU FTA too." The 20 items concerning auto sector that are in the negative list of FTAs include 16 different types of vehicles, including two-wheeler, and four different types of engines.

India tops in asking for content restrictions: Facebook Agency : New Delhi Facebook blocked 5,832 pieces of content, including anti-religious matter and hate speeches, during July-December 2014 on orders of Indian government, the highest by any country on the social networking giant's platform. "We restricted access in India to content reported primarily by law enforcement agencies and the India Computer Emergency Response Team within the Ministry of Communications and

Information Technology, including anti-religious content and hate speech that could cause unrest and disharmony," the social networking platform said. Facebook's report includes information on government requests it received for content removal and account data and national security requests under the US Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and through National Security Letters.

Badminton: India face tough Sudirman Cup test; pitted against South Korea, Malaysia

Agency : Dongguan India will have an unenviable task of taming three-time champions South Korea and Malaysia, as they have been handed a tricky draw in the Sudirman Cup to be held from May 10 to 17. A biennial event, Sudirman Cup will have five matches in every round - men and women's singles, men and women's doubles and mixed doubles. India will solely will depend on the

singles stars such as World No. 4 Kidambi Srikanth, 12th ranked Parupalli Kashyap, World No. 2 Saina Nehwal and No. 9 P V Sindhu, besides 2011 World Championship bronze medallists Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa to reach the knock out stage. In the draw ceremony held here on Monday, defending champions China found themselves in a relatively easy group, as they are in

Group 1A with Germany and Thailand and would expect to advance in the tournament. The top 12 teams in Group 1 have been split into four subgroups. Japan, winners of the Thomas Cup and runners-up in the Uber Cup, are in Group 1B with Chinese Taipei and USA, while Group 1C might well be the 'Group of Death' as it has three strong teams in Denmark, former champions Indonesia and England. Teams in Group 1 will play two stages: group play-off followed by knockout. The top two teams from each subgroup will qualify for the knock-out. China have been the most dominant nation in the Sudirman Cup, having won nine titles in 13 editions.

AFC Cup: Spirited East Bengal face Balestier Khalsa FC in Singapore Agency : Singapore Having held Hong Kong giants Kitchee SC at home, spirited East Bengal will be aiming for full points when they face bottom-placed Balestier Khalsa FC, in Group F of the AFC Cup at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Tuesday. The I-League runners-up, who were thrashed 4-1 by Johor Darul Ta'Zim earlier, bounced back to hold Kitchee 1-1 in their last fixture. The Hong Kong outfit led at half-time but it was East Bengal's Nigerian forward Ranti Martins, who once again came to the rescue by scoring his 21st goal of the competition, the highest from any player in an Indian club. But the good thing for East Bengal is that their ominous forward combination in Martins and

Dudu Omagbemi have started complementing each other. "Martins needs good players around him. He's not a player that leads a team. He just needs players to get him the ball in the box. I am trying to bring in a little bit

of structure and hope that helps him. So far, he has done well. Also, Dudu is working very hard even though he's not among goals. But once he fires, we'll start dominating," the Dutchman said.

SPORTS ROUNDUP ICC WORLD CUP-2015

We are good and that’s why we are here: Bangladesh coach

Agency : MELBOURNE, Gearing up for their biggest battle against defending champions India in the cricket World Cup quarterfinals, Bangladesh chief coach Chandika Hathurusingha on Monday said his wards “do not have to prove anything to anyone“. “For us, we have nothing to prove to anyone because we know that we are good. And that's precisely the reason we are here. We are here to embrace the opportunity presented to us and enjoy the situation,” Hathurusingha of Sri Lankan origin said during an interaction at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The coach didn’t dwell too much on the strength of their formidable opponents but praised India’s fast bowling unit.

“India are playing very good cricket. They are a good batting side. But the key has been how well their fast bowlers have bowled. That’s one area that we would probably keep an eye on,” Hathurusingha said. He also shied away from talking about Bangladesh’s 2007 shock win over India at Port of Spain. The 46year-old, who played 26 Tests for Sri Lanka as an opener between 1991 and 1999, has been a calming influence on the team. Along with Heath Streak and Ruwan Kalpage, he has got the team on an upward curve in the past eight months as Bangladesh has played some good cricket. Asked what has been the difference between Bangladesh teams of the past and this current batch, which has qualified for the

last eight, Hathurusingha replied, “I can’t speak about past as I have not seen Bangladesh’s dressing rooms of earlier times. But this team believes in itself. I think we always talk about clear role for our players. “The boys have been told to play with freedom. We are not afraid to make decisions in the middle and the culture we have created in the dressing room has also helped.” Asked whether there was a recipe for success, the coach answered, “I don’t think there is any secret to our success. The preparation was thorough. Not playing a lot of cricket in the lead up to the World Cup was a good thing as we reached Brisbane bit early to acclimatise to the Australian conditions. That was a key thing.

Status of Indian Women's hockey: WC 2015: MS Dhoni justifies the decision Overflowing goals, empty stands of not selecting Yuvraj Singh in Indian squad Agency : MELBOURNE, India’s captain MS Dhoni has justified the decision of not selecting Yuvraj Singh in Indian squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. “If you see, after the rule change happened, Yuvi didn’t bowl a lot. We must admit that once the rule change [field restriction] happened, it did affect his bowling although he is a regular with the ball in T20s,” Dhoni said. Dhoni has always been in favour of the four-fielder theory as a lot of his part-time bowlers including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag became far less effective in changed circumstances. “In the prefield restriction days, Viru paaji, Sachin Paaji and Yuvi used to bowl a lot and we depended on them. But they were all part-timers and on good batting tracks, they would find it difficult to bowl well. Like Raina is a good option if there is some help from the wicket. Also, he

bowls a good line to the left-handers. I felt I needed him during the Ireland game. Like Shikhar [Dhawan] and Rohit [Sharma] are also part-timers but I can only use them when conditions are conducive,” said Dhoni. Yuvraj Singh played an instrumental role in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph and the decision of not selecting him in Indian squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 was criticised by many cricket pundits, former cricketers and fans. But Dhoni justified this decision by saying Raina has taken Yuvraj’s place in the

batting line-up. “Now Raina bats at No 5 which is a very key number in terms of context of the game. So it will be difficult to compare, Yuvi and Raina as the batting Nos were not similar,” Dhoni explained. Dhoni also said that the all-rounders have not got a lot of chance during the 2015 World Cup. “The all-rounders have not got a lot of chance during this World Cup. If you compare with lot of allrounders [Yuvraj, Dwayne Bravo], who played key role during last World Cup, are not playing this time,” said Dhoni.

Agency : New delhi The World Hockey League final between India and Poland was scheduled to start at 8pm. The venue Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi had more Polish supporters than Indian supporters at 7.30pm. The Polish supporters were 11 in number, which says a lot about the state of Hockey in India. The tickets for the match were priced at Rs 20 (General) and Rs 100 (VIP Pass). As the match progressed, fans streamed in. By Halftime, there were about a hundred people in the VIP enclosure, but the general stands wore a

deserted look. The authorities weren’t even stringent on the ‘ticketchecking part’. One could walk into the general stand without a ticket. These sportspersons sweat to win laurels for a country which doesn't seem to care. Time and time again efforts have been made to highlight their apathy, but 'change' is still awaited. During the post match presentation ceremony, India skipper Ritu Rani said “I hope after watching us win on the home turf more girls will get attracted to the sport,” But the question is, whose fault is it? Are the fans responsible for not paying

enough attention to the sport? Or are the organisers not giving enough perks to entice people? Or is the bureaucracy to be blamed for not promoting the sport at the grassroot level? “We had come for a couple of HIL (Hockey India League) matches and my 4 year old son enjoyed the experience. There was music, c h e e r l e a d e r s , announcements. Why is all that missing today?,” says Arpit Taneja, who had come to cheer for India with his wife and 4-year old son Vardaan. (People often credit the rise of popularity of cricket in India to the 1983 World Cup victory.
