Kerala CPI(M) reaching out to IUML. Tharoor, Vijayan’s son-in-law have a lot to do with it Less than two years into Pinarayi Vijayan’s second term, the Communist Party of India-Marxist, finds itself back on the drawing board, formulating plans to extend its stint in power well beyond 2026. But with Vijayan’s diminishing stature and health impediments, it has to think out of the box to chart a way forward. And it is precisely in this context that CPI (M) state secretary M.V. Govindan’s comments, certifying the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) as a secular party, assume significance. When Vijayan assumed office as chief minister in the summer of 2016, it was long overdue for the Left ecosystem in Kerala. Within a month of the swearing-in, the late Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, then state secretary of the CPI(M), wrote in the party organ Deshabhimani how the Left Democratic Front (LDF) needed to expand its base to ensure a second term. By 2021, when Vijayan sought re-election, LDF had new allies, such as the Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) and Kerala Congress (Mani), coming at the expense of Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). Now, IUML is no pariah to CPI (M), having shared power in the past. But ever since CPI(M) famously ousted Kannur strongman M.V. Raghavan in 1986 for his ‘alternate document’ advocating an alliance with parties such as IUML and the Church-backed Kerala Congress factions, it has blown hot and cold on the issue. Perhaps it is no coincidence that CPI (M)’s courting of IUML comes with M.V. Raghavan’s protégés Vijayan and Govindan helming the Marxist party today. IUML has been Congress’ most valuable ally in UDF for over five decades. Even in 1992-93, post the razing of the Babri Masjid, IUML stayed put in UDF, despite then IUML president Ebrahim Sulaiman Sait rebelling and forming a splinter outfit. Notwithstanding its historical linkages to Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s All-India Muslim League (AIML) and having endured Jawaharlal Nehru’s “dead horse” jibe, IUML has only grown in stature—especially with its timely intervention in maintaining peace in the Malabar - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara region after Babri Masjid.

Not correct to strike down NJAC: Kiren Rijiju Agency News: New Delhi Law minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday regretted the government’s lack of say in the appointments of high court and Supreme Court judges, harping on an issue that has in recent weeks witnessed a bout of sparring with the top court. But the minister, who was speaking in the Rajya Sabha, sidestepped a question on whether the Centre planned to enact a law giving itself a role in the judicial appointment process. Rijiju said the

death. She was summoned due to her conversations with Rhea Chakraborty. According to a report in Pinkvilla, Rakul confirmed chatting with Rhea and said drugs were meant for Rhea. Setting the records straight, Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar on Friday said that in no way did he defend the November 19 Mangaluru cooker blast case. Speaking to reporters Shivakumar maintained that, “I only said BJP is diverting people’s attention by using such incidents. It has used this issue to hush up the voter ID scam and corruption. I did not say that investigation should not be carried out in the explosion case.” “Our leaders have become victims of terrorism. We stand for the integration, peace and unity of this country. We do not defend terrorism,” Shivakumar explained. Commenting on the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s remark that Congress has a pro-terrorism stand, he said, the statement has been issued with an intention to be in the market. “I have only spoken about the betrayal to the state with their corruption and ways of hushing it up,” he added. Shivakumar had stirred a controversy by stating that the Mangaluru blast incident was carried out by ruling BJP to divert the attention of people from the voter ID scam.

On Thursday, he had asked that without investigation, how was the suspect Mohammad Shariq arrested in connection with blast could be declared a terrorist? Was it an incident like 26/11 Mumbai terror attack? Was it an incident like Pulwama terror attack? How was the whole incident projected by the ruling BJP? When the voter ID scam came to light in Karnataka, immediately after the Mangaluru cooker blast incident took place. Why? From where did the accused come? Shivakumar questioned. “You are trying to highlight emotional issues in life and trying to make a livelihood out of it. In your (BJP) tenure not a single recognizable work has been carried out. Simply you indulged in deviation,” he said. The DG visits hurriedly and declares it a terror act. What are you trying to do? This is an attempt of deviation. Do you think people are dumb? Shivakumar had stated.

Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Friday said no Supreme Court bench will be available from December 17 till January 1 during the ensuing winter vacations. Friday is the last working day of

the top court before it goes on a two-week winter break. The apex court will reopen on January 2. The issue regarding court vacations has been raised earlier also but judges, including former CJI N V Ramana, had said there is a misconception that judges stay in ultimate comfort and enjoy their holidays. Delivering the inaugural Justice SB Sinha Memorial Lecture on ‘Life of a Judge’ in Ranchi in July, the then CJI Ramana had said judges spend sleepless nights rethinking their decisions. “There exists a misconception in the minds of the people that judges stay in ultimate comfort, work only from 10 am to 4 pm and enjoy their holidays. Such a narrative is untrue… when false narratives are created about the supposed easy life led by judges, it is difficult to swallow,” he had said. Justice Ramana had said the responsibility of judging is extremely burdensome owing to the human implication of the rulings.

He became the youngest Indian to score a century on debut in first-class cricket aged 15 years and 232 days. Now, Sachin has spoken about Arjun’s achievement and

urged the media to allow his son to fall in love with cricket. In a video that has gone viral on social media, Sachin was asked by anchor Gaurav Kapur about Arjun’s unique feat, to which the cricket icon said: “As a father, I remember my father telling someone…this was just when I started playing for India. And at an event my father introduced him as ‘Sachin’s father’ and his friend asked him how do you feel, he said ‘it was the proudest moment of my life. Because this is what fathers want their children to be. To be recognised by what your child has done.’ “

Producer Aditya Chopra and director Siddharth Anand unveiled the first song of ‘Pathaan’ titled ‘Besharam Rang’, on Monday, and since then, it has been mired with controversies over the outfits worn by Deepika Padukone. Amid the uproar, Shilpa Rao, who has crooned the track for Deepika, has now said that the song is addictive because of how the actress looks in it. Shilpa who has sung many blockbuster hits for Deepika like ‘Subhanallah’ and ‘Khuda Jaane’ says, ”Deepika is a whole vibe in ‘Besharam Rang’ and the track is addictive because of her.

whole world and I think that is what I love about the song. Many women across the world need to feel really confident in their skin, no matter where we come from. We need to embrace our goodness with the flaws and really celebrate ourselves and that is what I love about ‘Besharam Rang’ and really hope the audiences love it.” The song features a sizzling Deepika with Shah Rukh Khan, who plays a gun-toting spy with a license to kill in ‘Pathaan’. Deepika can be seen flaunting her curves and svelte figure in a range of bikinis and swimsuits, however, her one particular saffron bikini has led to a massive uproar across the nation.

About &TV’s Doosri Maa track, Krishna shares, “Ashok (Mohit Dagga) and Yashoda (Neha Joshi) announce to the family that they want to educate Krishna (AayudhBhanushali), but Babuji (Sunil Dutt) gets angry. When Yashoda comes to school for Krishna’s admission, they inform her that the admission form does not have his father’s name on it, so they will not accept Krishna.
