Uddhav Thackeray Loses Name, Symbol Of Shiv Sena Founded By Father

Agency News: New Delhi

Nearly eight months after his coup in Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena, Eknath Shinde’s claim on the party’s name and bow-and-arrow symbol has been cleared by the Election Commission in a huge setback for former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. In a 78-page order on the protracted battle for control of the organisation, the commission said Mr Shinde, who became Chief Minister after the revolt, was supported by MLAs with 76 per cent of the party’s winning votes in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly polls. It allowed the faction led by Uddhav Thackeray, whose father Bal Thackeray founded the Shiv Sena in 1966, to keep the ‘flaming torch’ poll symbol

The BJP in Himachal Pradesh said Friday it has identified 2,440 polling booths where it is weak and is working at strengthening itself in these areas ahead of the 2024 general elections. The “weak booths”, out of a total of 7,883 in the state, were picked according to the party’s performance there in the past three Lok Sabha elections, BJP spokesperson Karan Nanda told. Lok Sabha MPs will visit these booths and go door to door to improve the party’s prospects in the elections next year, he said. Maha Shivratri is one of the most auspicious Hindi festivals which is celebrated by devotees across India. The chants of ‘Har Har Mahadev’ is heard throughout the nation on this day. This year the festival, also called the ‘Great time of lord Shiva’, will be observed on February 18, 2023. It’s celebrated annually in honour of Lord Shiva, who is considered one of the main deities in Hinduism. On this day, devotees pray, fast, take a holi bath in the river Ganga and worship lord shiva. It is believed that fasting on Mahashivratri brings blessings and fulfilment of desires. While married women observe the fast to maintain the balance of harmony in their marriage, on the other side, unmarried women observe this fast in the hope that they can find a life partner like Lord Shiva. On Mahashivratri several devotees opt for ‘Nirjala vrat’ where they consume no water or food throughout the day. However, as not many can perform this type of fast, hence a majority of the people keep a fast where they can have fruits, milk, and non-grain items. On this special occasion, enjoy refreshing and gut-cooling Rose Thandai. It is a Shivaratri’s special drink that is made with rose essence and is garnished with fresh rose petals. You can also add-on roohafza to it for a good flavour. This beverage makes you fuller and cools down your acidity. Potatoes are one of the best food items consumed during the Maha Shivratri festival. They can keep you full throughout the day. You can consume your favourite aloo tikki, aloo pakora, aloo khichdi and sweet potato chaat as long as they don’t have onion, garlic, and other species in them. On this special day, devotees wash the Shiva lingam with milk--because Lord Shiva has been said to love milk, according to religious Hindu texts.

Goa BJP Revokes Appointment All Its Spokespersons in State, New Appointees to Be Announced Soon

Agency News: New Delhi

The Goa unit of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday revoked the appointment of its spokespersons in the state with immediate effect and the names of new appointees will be announced in the next couple of days, the party’s senior functionary said. At present, the party has at least six spokespersons in the state. Goa BJP chief Sadanand Tanavade said the appointment of all spokespersons of the party in the state has been withdrawn with immediate effect. The party’s central leadership had asked for reconstitution of the panel of spokespersons, he said. “We will be announcing a new panel of spokespersons in the next two to three days,” Tanavade added. The decision of withdrawal of names comes three days after state BJP spokesman Giriraj

Vernekar questioned another spokesperson of the party, Savio Rodrigues, over his comment on refusal of permission to Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief Vijai Sardesai for hosting the Carnival parade. Tanavade, however, said the decision to withdraw the panel of spokesperson has anything to do with it. On February 15, Rodrigues had tweeted, “No politics at Carnival Time and I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you and @VijaiSardesai because that is what friends do and what Goa is about – friendship and togetherness at all festivals and carnivals.”

BJP Govt Destroying Democratic Institutions, Says CPIML(L) Gen Secy Dipankar Bhattacharya

Agency News: New Delhi

Alleging that the BJP-led government at the Centre was systematically destroying the democratic institutions of the country, CPIML(L) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya claimed that attempts were also being made to demolish the federal structure. Addressing the inaugural session of CPIML(L)’s 11th party congress here, he claimed there was no other option but to fight a long battle against the BJP and RSS. “The BJP-led central government has been systematically destroying democratic institutions of the country. Predicting that the 2024 general elections will be “exciting”, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has said if the Opposition by and large coalesces around one candidate in every constituency to take on the BJP, then the ruling party is going to face a “very tough time” Tharoor said it would not be easy for the BJP to replicate the pattern of 2019 when it swept or almost swept multiple states. Asked if the Congress has to be the fulcrum of any Opposition alliance, the former Union minister said, “De facto it (Congress) is the only party other than the BJP with a national presence and arguably we have a stronger national presence in some parts of India than the BJP has, (examples being) my own state (Kerala), Tamil Nadu.” There is no question that the Congress is a party with a national footprint, a historic legacy, presence pretty much everywhere and, therefore, inevitably it has to figure in any

calculations of an Opposition front or an Opposition government in due course, Tharoor said. “I think that the main lesson here of course, and we have seen from the last two elections which the BJP won with 31 and 37 per cent votes respectively, is that the divided Opposition plays into the BJP’s hand,” he said. Stressing on Opposition unity, Tharoor said it could be in various forms such as a pre-poll alliance or choosing seats wisely so that as far as possible, the strongest Opposition candidate gets a clear run against the BJP rival, and the final settlement left to after an election result. “All of that is not within the realm of my responsibility but all I can say is that if the Opposition.

Gehlot accuses centre of increasing financial burden on states

Rajasthan CM Ashok

Gehlot has accused the central government of putting more financial burden on states by changing the funding pattern of central sponsored schemes (CSS).

Replying to the discussion on his budget speech in Rajasthan Vidhansabha on Thursday evening Gehlot said, “On one hand the central government talks about Team India but I don’t understand what kind of Team India is this as the centre is increasing the financial burden on states.”

Sensex declines 317 points on weak global markets

Agency News : New Delhi

India’s January gold imports plunged 76 per cent from a year earlier to a 32-month low on subdued demand after domestic prices rallied to record highs and as jewellers postponed purchases, hoping for a reduction in import duty, a government source said.

Lower imports by the world’s second-biggest bullion consumer could weigh on benchmark gold prices, but the fall may help in bringing down India’s trade deficit and support the ailing rupee. The country imported 11 tonnes of gold in January, compared with 45 tonnes a year earlier, the source said on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media. In value terms, January imports dropped to $697 million

from $2.38 billion a year earlier, he said on Thursday. Local gold futures jumped to a record high of 57,270 rupees per 10 grams in January, stifling retail demand, which had been expected to improve amid the ongoing wedding season, said a Mumbai-based dealer with a private bullion importing bank. Weddings are one of the biggest drivers of gold purchases in India as bullion in the form of jewellery is an essential part of a bride’s dowry and also a popular gift from family and guests.
