Work towards making India the skill capital of the world
Skill isn’t some activity you learn and forget over time. Skill is experience, intellect and passion acting in unison. Knowledge is not skill. Skill development in India is quite a challenge considering the population which is deprived of facilities to work on their skills. Thankfully, India is on a mission to find such talent and enhance skills. The recent budget has rationalised customs and excise duty rates to boost Make in India, which will create the need for skill development. A sum of Rs 25,000 crore has been allotted to the development of the public sector, which would create more jobs and sharpen the focus on skill development. Providing entrepreneurship and training facilities in schools, colleges and ITIs prioritise mass employment creation and skill development. Jobs and hirings in India must shift from being ‘qualification-based’ to ‘skill-based’. Today, almost every hiring is done using education and qualification as a surrogate for skill. This is a roadblock that the National Skill Development Mission needs to address. The budget has emphasised creating a new dynamism in the social sector. Concentrating on creating a modern infrastructure and maintaining fiscal discipline will not lead to actual growth — focusing on the Scheduled Castes, backward classes and deprived segments, connecting them and skilling them for industry requirements is what is required. Governance and ease of doing business will attract more investors, but does not solve the skills shortage. People’s potential must be recognised, refined and exposed to opportunities. There should be an unprecedented focus on providing quality education to the deprived segments and child labour must be abolished. These two issues need to be addressed on a mission mode. The responsibility of developing the skill sets shouldn’t be confined to a department or a cell. The whole country should be working towards transforming India into the skill capital of the world. Hopefully, the extended e-assessment will generate larger tax generation and this will result in greater funding for important programmes by the government. In the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “The more we give importance to skill development, the more competent will be our youth”. The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership, and that is how this country will be on the path to literacy and true sovereignty. Few of us would regret the years it takes to complete an education or master a skill. The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.

The researchers examined the effects of yoga on patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) in which faulty electrical signals and rapid heart rate begin suddenly and then stop on their own. “Many patients with paroxysmal AF can’t live their lives as they want to — they refuse dinners with friends, concerts and travelling – because they are afraid of an AF episode occurring,” said one of the researchers Maria Wahlstrom from Sophiahemmet University in Sweden. “AF episodes are accompanied by chest pain, dyspnoea and dizziness,” added Wahlstrom in the study published in the European journal of cardiovascular nursing. These symptoms are unpleasant and patients feel anxious, worried and stressed that an AF episode would occur. AF is the most common cardiac rhythm disorder and has no cure, the researches pointed out.

The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the state government on a PIL alleging discrimination against the Muslim-dominated localities of Sarkhej ward. Data tabled in the state assembly shows that in the last two years jail authorities recovered 61 mobile phones along with batteries, chargers and sim cards from inside Sabarmati jail premises. Replying to a question by Jhalod MLA Mitesh Garasia, minister of state for home, Rajanikant Patel, said that apart from mobiles, the police have also recovered cigarette packets, scissors, iron roads, razor, gutka, sugar and tea among other items. Police also recovered garlic chutney, onions, potatoes and edible oil. The government’s reply stated that departmental inquiry has been initiated against 88 jail officials, and 236 prisoners from whose barracks these prohibited items were recovered. Patel said that in 2014, some 29 phones were recovered from the jail, while in 2015 the number increased to 32. Also, the cash recovered from inside jail was Rs88,850 in 2014 and Rs69,500 in 2015.

A request has been sent for setting up Ultra Mega Solar Power Project. However local villagers have pointed out that about 68 hectare land is grass land and therefore re-survey should be done for adjustment of this 68 hectare land. On Monday, Aamir told the police that he was whisked away to Delhi, “drugged and unconscious”, by his “friends” who “cheated him” into selling his kidney. With the Rs 2.3 lakh he got for the kidney, Malik paid off his debt and put the rest of the money in the bank for his two daughters — aged three and one.
